10NL - Swimming with the Sharks (-25.95)
  KingKory, Feb 26 2009

February 26, 2009

Summary:

Commentary:

Biggest losers were 100bb, 100b, 80bb. Biggest winners were 90bb, 40bb, 35bb. Poo.

I'm actually not super upset at the session, didn't donk off too many chips. I feel as if I was put in a couple of weird spots, and didn't really get paid off as much as I should have. Hmm, I've been overbetting a lot of my bigger hands, but I thought that was the key to 10NL. Maybe I'll cut back a little.

My 3rd consecutive 1k+ hand morning, and it's getting easier and easier every day. Downloaded HEM while at work today, gonna transfer over my DB, and give it a shot tomorrow morning.

A picture from the co-ed baby shower I mentioned in an earlier post.

Unfortunately I was out like a light when this picture was taken evidenced by the goofy-ass look on my face.

Vodka shots chilled in a baby bottle served in a grappa stem? PURE.FUCKING.METAL

I was very surprised by how hammered everyone got at this thing. I've only blacked out 1 other time in my long career. Recipe for success: (1) a bunch of beaten down husbands/fiances with nothing really in common (2) alcohol.

Nice session this morning.

Won a pot on some missplayed Jacks, and lost a bit of value on a pair of aces, but otherwise I think I played okay.

9 Tables (+12.65)
  KingKory, Feb 24 2009

February 24, 2009

Summary:

Commentary:

Well, this session was 100% more entertaining than the last.

I kicked it up to 9 tables, and was able to get into the groove relatively easy - 1,000 hands in an hour. 6bb/100, think I'll stick with this for a while. At this rate, I'll be up to 25NL in the next couple weeks...AT THIS RATE I SAID YOU HEAR ME GOD?!

There was a comment on my last blogpost about the lameness of playing standard. Is it worth building an image at 10NL? I don't think I could do such a thing running 9 tables anyway, so the EV would have to exceed the 300-400 hands I'd be losing an hour. Thanks.

Table Ninja:

Read a bit about Table Ninja - worth the $25? I envision mass chaos while trying to use this 9-tabling: 4-betting at random tables etc. Any reviews would be appreciated.

Poker Tracker 2:

Is this still supported? The version I have (2.16) doesn't work with PokerStars out of the box (I had to write a little utility to nig-rig my hand histories into importable files), is it still supported?

Is there any functionality in PT3 that is MUST HAVE? If not, I'll just stick with my ghetto-budget PT2.

Hands of Note:

+ Show Spoiler +

This guy is a reg. Anyone consider pushing? Have literally tried ZERO plays so far at 10NL.

Find a fold? How often are we jacking this up from SB? I probably raise this ~30% of the time.

10 NL, eh? $5, eh? $0.40 pre-flop bets, eh? F-U-N FUN FUN FUN! I'm going to stick to my guns though, and grind out $100 before I move up. I've seen a lot of "It's 10 NL, play standard and be a winner" these comments on the boards, so I've taken it to heart. I'm making very few exotic plays, and pretty much giving all turn check-raisers, and 4-bettors the benefit of the doubt.

Went to a co-ed baby shower on Saturday. That's right - CO-ED BABY SHOWER. Sometimes I think they hold these events just to see exactly how far they can push us.

Starting of slooooww (-35.70)
  KingKory, Feb 17 2009

February 16 - 17, 2009

Summary:

Commentary:

Wow, this is my first poker blog in quite a while.

So, in my last post, I said I was going to start off at 25 NL to get back on the wagon. Considering I was playing consistently at 50 NL when my hiatus began, I thought that 25 NL would be no prob. Well, when it finally came to me logging back in, and opening tables, I got a little cold feet, and thought that it might be a better idea to get the ball back rolling again at 10 NL (groan). Once (if) I make $100 at 10 NL, then I'll move up to 25 NL.

I mean, if I can't beat 10 NL, I probably shouldn't be moving up, right...?

When I last played, I was 9-tabling 50 NL. I opened up 6 tables of 10 NL, and was completely overwhelmed - how the F did I ever do 9?! I figure it'll take a bit of getting used to again I suppose, so I'm starting with 4 and gonna move from there.

I was a pretty constant 13/10 nit when I was 9-tabling, and - as expected - my game opened up a bit going down to 4 tables.

Although today went shittily (sp?), it felt really good to be playing again.

Also, if any friendly people out there are down to swap a sweat session, let me know!

Top Winners:

One difference at 10 NL is that players will call you down a lot on marginal hands/draws. Any comment on the 3-bet PF oop?

How often do we fold the flop here. At 50 NL, I'd probably fold the majority of the time tbh.

Very disappointed with myself here. Not quite sure what I was thinking on the turn. My flop raise got me in the perfect spot for a free turn, and I fucked it up.

Back on the Saddle
  KingKory, Jan 29 2009

Hello, some of you may remember me, the majority of you probably don't.

After a 1+ year hiatus, I've decided to get back into poker.

A little bit about myself.

--

January 2006

I deposit $200 into PokerStars, comb this site, read as much as possible. Start building a decent roll.

August 2007

I start Poker Donors. I play my last hand of poker, and dedicate all of my free time to the site. I cash out my PokerStars account of $1,100 dollars, and vow to not play another hand of online poker while I'm the administrator of the site.

In total, the LP community donated over $2,000 (thanks in a very large part to Saki Saki) in a short 2 months of activity. It's something that I am extremely proud to be apart of. To this day I have 2 kids show up on my statement every month that I don't quite have the heart to cancel.

October 2007

I get a dog, I get engaged, I start a new job, my fiance and I move into a new place. I no longer have the time to administer Poker Donors, so I close the site. The work was a lot more than I was ready for: multiple ideas on where the money should be spent; exhaustively researching charity after charity; possible tax implications; hourly site maintenance/processing of transaction emails. I was basically overwhelmed, and had to cut out all of my side projects/hobbies to keep up.

It was a hard decision to close Poker Donors, because it had such a positive impact on a lot of people. I was once asked to hand the reigns over to a more resourceful entity, and I now regret the decision I made to turn that offer down.

*If anyone has questions regarding Poker Donors, please feel free to PM me. Or check out the thread here*

--

Present Day:

Things have calmed down a bit, and I want to get back into poker.

Poker has always been a fascinating hobby to me, and I have been missing it. My playtime was early in the morning before I went into the office. There was something about jumpstarting your brain at the buttcrack of dawn that really got the day going on the right foot.

--

Anyhow, I'm looking for a new site - preferably one with RakeBack, and a deposit bonus.

I currently have 21,000+ FPP's on PokerStars, and it says I have to increase my member level to cash them out (?). So I guess I'll just start there for now. My plan is to deposit $500, and start at 25 NL.

Any advice on which poker site to go to from there? Once I'm able to cash out my FPP's, I'll probably be leaving PokerStars to go to a RakeBack/Deposit Bonus enabled site.

Thanks much!

The Master Cleanse - Day 9
  KingKory, Sep 05 2007

Morning weight: 176.5 (that's 7 lbs in 7 days).

Hmm, it looks like I kind of slacked on my updates, eh? Sorry for the lack of pics, I couldn't really think of anything else to take a picture of :/

Okay, so I pussed out, and quit after 7 days (suppose to go 10).

I'll recap the last few days...

Friday (Day 4)

Had to work at the bar. Came home quick after my day job, made a gallon of the drink, went to work. Noticed a lack of energy right away as the nightly rush started. Tipped my barback an extra $50 to stay late and do all the cleaning for me.

Saturday (Day 5)

Took the TANKMAN to a street festival that's going on around here. Sipped lemonade all day long. Very relaxing day.

Sunday (Day 6)

My family had a huge dinner. I sat in the corner like a sad sack, and sipped my lemonade as delicious food/drink was being passed around. Painted a dresser in my room because it "didn't go with the rest of the bedroom furnituer"

Monday (Day 7)

LABOR DAY! And the last day of the cleanse for me!

Usually one of my favorite holidays of the year, this one was especially sucky. Went to a couple BBQ's, but didn't stay long. BBQ's are much less fun when you're not drinking/eating Watched Superbad - very funny.

Tuesday (Day 8)

I woke up in the morning, and took the most productive crap of the entire cleanse. I mean...it looked like a regular poo for me, it was sort of scary, actually. Where the fuck is all of this shit coming from?? This was almost enough to motivate me to keep going for another 2 days...almost.

Breaking The Cleanse

Now, as you may have guessed, it's not as simple as devouring a double cheeseburger once you've gone 7+ days without solid food.

The first day, it's recommended to drink nothing but fresh orange juice. So, all day and night Tuesday, I was drinking orange juice...yummers. I could actually feel my stomach reacting to the orange juice too.

It's kind of weird...I don't feel like my stomach is weak right now, I mean, I totally think I could take down a whole large pizza by myself. But biology disagrees, I'm afraid

TODAY (Day 9)

The 2nd day after the cleanse is OJ in the morning/afternoon, and plain vegetable broth at night , with fresh raw vegetables if you're feeling up to it.

Well...I sort of cheated, and had some veggie broth today at lunch, and let me tell you...it was probably the best soup I've tasted in a real long time

Tomorrow (Day 10)

Tomorrow I will have OJ for breakfast, veggie broth for lunch, and light supper consisting of boiled chicken, and greens.

And it's fucking on like Donkey Kong on Friday - I have full plans to get completely fat/drunk Friday night *)

--

Conclusion

So, after all is said and done, am I glad I did it? Well, with anything that's mildly annoying/challenging, you're glad you've done it once it's over with. I guess a better question would be whether or not I'd do it again. And I'll be honest with you: I probably won't.

I'm not 100% convinced that the help to my body was worth it. However, the fact that I had consistent movements throughout this entire process (without the use of laxatives) is definitely something proponents of the cleanse can hang their hats on. I just don't feel much different, ya know? I don't know, maybe once I'm off it, I'll change my mind.

Anyhow, that's about it! To anyone thinking of trying this: I would be absolutely sure you want to go through with it before starting. It's no walk in the park, also this is not a diet. You should fully expect to gain back any weight you lose during the cleanse.

*Pics* The Master Cleanse - Day 4
  KingKory, Aug 31 2007

Morning weight - 180.6

First thing this morning, I had to take a huge shit. This is strange, because the past couple days I haven't had to shit until I've taken the saltwater flush.

WARNING: Details about my poo ahead
So before I did anything, I was on the toilet. And the result was the most solid matter I've had since beginning the cleanse. Don't get me wrong, it's still pretty much diarrhea-ish (without the stomach aches), but with intermittent chunks of matter. This got me very excited, considering I haven't consumed solid food in ~80 hours.

It's kind of strange how I've start fiending for this drink. Like, yesterday at work, I was precariously close to running out. I mean, whenever I'm hungry, if I take a couple gulps of this stuff, I'm totally cool for a while. I don't know what I'd do if I were stuck somewhere without it.

I have to tend bar tonight. My shift is ~5-6 hours long, and it's pretty much non-stop for a ~3 hour span or so. I have to be sure I'm taking drinks of lemonade every now and then.

Okay, so I took some pics of me making the lemonade. Sorry for the messy house-

Lemons & Limes! I never realized how expensive citrus is.

Squeeze squeeze squeeze. I've built some massive forearms during this thing.

Y'all niggas is crazy

In goes the lemon/lime juice.

In goes the syrup!

The Master Cleanse - Day 3
  KingKory, Aug 30 2007

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_cleanse

So, I started the cleanse Tuesday morning. My last bite of solid food was Monday night ~8:30 PM.

Why?

My brother has done the cleanse twice so far, and he had nothing but good things to say about it: sinuses clearing up, skin feeling better, smoother BM's, easier breathing, more energy.

I decided to go for it because I have a lot of vices. I eat red meat 5-7 times a week; I consume 10-15 alcoholic drinks a week; at least 1 cup of coffee a day, and smoke on occasion. Also, it's only 7-10 days out of my life, and has no lasting effects. During the cleanse, the only substance I will be ingesting is the lemonade, and saltwater flush (no booze, no food, no caffeine, no smoke).

I've read multiple articles from sceptics, and everything they say makes sense. But, once again, I have first-hand testimony that it has positive effects, and it's only 10 days. I can do without for 10 days (I think).

Although I am not doing this as a diet (I would consider myself somewhat fit), I'm tracking my weight as a point of curiosity. Started Monday night at 183.5 lbs (5'11" ). Weighed myself this morning, and I was 181.6.

What?

So, when I wake up, I drink a salt-water flush consisting of 1 qt. of lukewarm water, and 2 tspns of uniodized salt.

It's really crazy what warm saltwater will do to an empty stomach. Literally 10 minutes after I take the flush, I'm on the toilet. And the only time I have a BM is after I've taken the flush.

I've gone without solid food for 48+ hours now, and my movements are still containing solid material. Kinda makes you think.

On to the Lemonade! This is basically what I live off of while I'm on the cleanse.

The lemonade contains fresh squeeze citrus (lemons and limes), grade B organic maple syrup, and water. The sugars in the syrup have enough calories to keep me going throughout the cleanse. I probably drink ~1.5 gallons of this stuff throughout the day (~1,200 calories).

The theory is that drinking the lemonade through the day moves all the impacted matter/toxins around, and the saltwater flush gets it all out.

Popular forms of the diet call for an herbal laxative tea, but I've decided to forgo the laxative completely. Seemed unnatural to me.

Feel?

The first day was kind of rough. It's just so natural to stop for a coffee, or a bagel, or a sandwich. Or snap open a beer after work. I was hungry/cranky all day long.

What's worse is that I decided to paint my master bedroom this week, so that just added to my frustration.

Today (day 3) has been much better though. I've got a nice routine down, and my hunger pains are all gone. I'm noticing a slight lack of energy (it's super hot here right now), but I'm still able to stay focused at work.

--

Anyhow, just thought I'd blog about it. I may post some pictures of me making the lemonade/saltwater/poop if I get motivated.

PokerDonors.com
  KingKory, Aug 12 2007

http://pokerdonors.com

I haven't played a hand of poker the past week or so, as all of my time has been spent working on this project.

All the talk about helping kids out, and the overwhelming response to the thread byr started made me realize that a lot of effort is NOT being made to organize poker players.

The site is in a very "beta" stage. I am open to any and all suggestions from you guys. Please check it out, and let me know what you think. I'd like to hear any/all opinions/criticism ("Your site looks like shit", "1% of all donations?! Why are you trying to rob people?" ) .

http://pokerdonors.com/faq/ will explain a lot about what I'm going to try to do.

http://pokerdonors.com/charities/ shows a list (with pictures of receipt) of all of the children we are sponsoring so far.

*Nazgul, please let me know if this is not cool.

Thanks a lot,

Cory
