[NL25] Day 8
Uptown, Feb 03 2009
Back to NL25 after being bitchslapped by Geometryb over aim haha.
MASSSSSSS Grinded today, 6.6K hands at NL10, 1K hands at NL25. Changed my goal for # of hands things month from 60K to 100K. I'm definitely on pace so far .
Worked on looking for the fold button @ NL10 the past 2 days and thought I was getting somewhere so I moved back up to NL25. Good results thus far, I realized I was getting raaaaped by the rake at NL10 as well .

Basically broke even over the entire duration of NL10, then revved it up at NL25. Looking forward to tomorrow when I'll grind about 5K hands of NL25. Stoploss of about 5bi's I think.
Thanks to the guys who helped me out "finding the fold button" over aim/msn. You know who you are~ <3
what a way to end the day

Sry guys, I donated your donations away
(w/o their donations, I would be -5bi today I think)
January Results / February Goals
Uptown, Feb 01 2009
The third month of my so called career, January proved to be the most successful - both monetarily and in terms of the advancement of my game.
I dug myself out from the hole I put myself into in late december, having lost 2/3 of my BR in a matter of days. I wrote in January that I was committed to learning the game and improving, rather than simply brainlessly grind; I believe I have stuck to the plan throughout these last 4 weeks. I went from NL2 to NL25, though I am currently doing a stint in NL10 to get my game back in order. While I've dropped perhaps $200 over the last week (12 bis when taking stakes into account), that has not prevented me from being able to have a very positive perspective on what I've accomplished this month.
My ability to choose spots to bet / not to bet has improved dramatically (granted, it's not hard to improve when I had NO idea of wtf I was doing before), and my confidence has grown accordingly. However, I have come to the realization that I need to work hard on the other side of the coin: folding and pot control. Aside from tangible goals, this will be the main focus of February. I've gone from complete newbie to newbie over this month, and I can be proud for the improvements I've made.
January Results
* Silverstar
* +$460
* 7x'ed my BR
* moved up 3 stakes
* 37K hands
* 129 hours
February Goals
* Goldstar
* NL50 shots
* 60K hands
* 180 hours
I don't have a BR or profit goal. As long as I put in the hands, log the hours and continue to keep improvement as my primary objective, I will be satisified.

NL10 stint
Uptown, Jan 30 2009
So the previous blog entry + the next day ended up being a -7bi doomswitch sequence, cooler and suck out city. In addition I felt that something about my play wasn't quite right, though I couldn't really pinpoint it. I decided it was time to move down for a few days and evaluate my game.
So I've spent today and yesterday at NL10, working on my game 6 tabling. I think I became a bit braindead 8 tabling NL25, so I plan on sticking with 6 tables for the foreseeable future.
Adjusting my PF range a bit, as well as bet sizing based on position. Postflop, I'm really trying to talk to myself about what hands I can fold out with my bet, what hands stay in, what hands can be making a bet against me, how does my hand do against his range, etc. I still suck with ranges but I'm doing my best I guess . It's still rudimentary like on a A84 board or w/e, I'll be thinking "air, Ax, mid pps... how much of the range do I beat, how likely are each, etc". Trying esp hard to not make bets that fold out everything but hands I dont beat.
So over 3k hands at NL10, I'm somehow doing well despite feeling like I'm getting coolered / sucked out around every corner. I guess that redline is indicative of making decent bets postflop based on the thought process I described above. It's obviously the basic thoughtprocess of TAG poker, but I'm convinced I have major major major holes in that line of thinking as is.

Last pot of the day.

[NL25] Day 6
Uptown, Jan 27 2009
First losing day!
Obviously, 100% of the blame lies with Into Infinity for his comments in yesterday's blog! I've used extensive research over the past 5 seconds to prove this fact. A paper will be published in Scientific American February 2009 issue.
Ok kidding aside though it was just standard cooler / bad beat city during the first session of the day (-4.5bis), coupled with life tilt from my involvement in the PT3 scamming debacle here. It's never easy when someone you decided to trust turns out to have been unworthy of any good will. =( I suppose he will take please in reading my confession of him getting to my head perhaps, but I do think letting it spill out is better for my mental wellbeing . It truly shook my conscience(not sure if that's the right word) that I decided to dismiss all the negative impressions of him from being on TL and give him the benefit of the doubt, and in the end I was in a sense betrayed (esp since he immediately tried to scam me as well via msn).
Thanks again to the scam victims for providing me with their correspondence with said lowlife.
Poker wise, proper table selection and being aggressive preflop, total nit postflop is the goal, which I did pretty well in session 2 imo. Well, time to get a good night's rest and hit the ground running tomorrow. Bottom line is, if I play well I'm a winner, if I play poorly I'm a losing station + donk. Discipline imo.

Nearly 2bis -EV? Standard~
A lol hand

edit: just went over my marked hands from today (which were prolly all the biggest losing hands anyways) and it definitely looks like I fire too many bullets and station it up with marginal holdings.
Preflop, I'm not sure how to deal with villains who 3bet around 9-12% (esp against my CO/BU steals), or alternatively steal from CO/BU/SB at like 40-50% frequency. =/
Advice welcome (read: plz halppp)
[NL25] Day 5
Uptown, Jan 26 2009
Definitely started to pinpoint some of my leaks today. It's easy to blame coolers and bad beats, (KK vs turned trips, stuff like that) but even beyond that I could see two particular issues.
1 - Calling down too light. Shown Clearly by the negative showdown winnings, even taking into account coolers.
2 - Not playing positional poker enough. I dont think I can blame it on "oh, I got fishy players to my left I'm not going to open light here OTB" b/c my steal rates are getting ridiculously low. I think I'm definitely losing value, not only through steals but by not being paid off when I do have hands.
Felt a bit of tilt when I was up 3bi's and I should have stopped but kept going (I'm sure you guys can relate). All in all, turned a breakeven day into +1bi, so I'm pretty thankful of that.
1490vpps, so I'll hit silverstar tomorrow. Not sure at what point I'll take a NL50 shot, probably aiming for beginning of february'ish after hopefully having put in about 20k+ hands at NL25.
*drumroll*

[NL25] Days3-4
Uptown, Jan 25 2009
Maybe it's still a bit premature to pronounce myself as a NL25 reg, but the results thus far have been encouraging.
I'm not sure why/how my AF is still above 5, or whether this is an issue to be taken seriously. Considering I play an incredibly nitty style, maybe it is relatively permissible since I do have decent hands more often than not when I reach the flop and beyond.

Downswing I believe resulted from a combination of a run of poor cards and calling down halfstacks too lightly.
Not an interesting update, but I guess I'll summarize it as "I'm steadily pacing forward"
[NL25] shot Day 2
Uptown, Jan 23 2009
Played 2 sessions today: the first shortly after waking up (which I'm trying to make a routine of), the 2nd in the late afternoon - early evening. Totaled to 6.5 hours at 3.4k hands. Thanks to Night for spanking my ass into gear in an earlier blog maybe? Moderately swingy day overall, where I'd often stack someone then get stacked a few hands later, repeat at least 5x.
Idk why but I was really nitty today (even more than usual if you can imagine that), playing something like 12/9/5.5 with only about a 18% steal rate. I 'think' it was b/c I seemed to end up to the right of loose players who I was disinclined to steal against... or just variance. Hmm, looked at positional stats just now, really dont like the ratios I have from UTG to BU, but hmmm... yea I dont think I can really look at these numbers in a vacuum esp in the short term.
Leaks
* Picking good spots to cbet
* Hand Selection against stationy players, esp BvB
* Fold marginal hands to resistance
* Vbet stronger on every street
Had some really great discussions on the last leak today in my hand history threads: one two three.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in with advice in my hands today . It felt great to get the tough lovin'. The vbet sizing and pot building was a leak I 'thought' I fixed, but you guys made it clear that there's still a lottttt I can improve on in this area! Shoutout especially to Muhweli, Into Infinity, and Artanis for thourough pointers <3.
*drumroll*

Cheers~
edit: oh yea, I have 1K vpps this month, gonna get silverstar whoo~
[NL25] shot Day 1 - cont
Uptown, Jan 22 2009
A followup from my report on the morning session.
Felt pretty tired after the first session (6am-8:30am) so I slept for a few hours, then played for 1 hr before going out to see a friend. Lost a BI or so, but I wasn't too unhappy with the pots I played. I had a oesd + flush draw that I felted on the flop that didn't pan out, as well as trips that lost to a boat that was just odd, as well as being sucked out a few times by players who had no business being there in the first place (like a rainbow flop -> runner runner flush with like QTs in the hole). While I lost some monies, I thought I wasn't playing poorly.
When I got back I played another 2 hr session until by brain started to fry and so I called it a night. Even now, I cant really think straight haha. Ran pretty good / made good calls / and as usual didnt fold enough postflop. I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally need to look over my postflop play and increase my value betting to bluff betting ratio I think.
Played 6 hours - 2.5k hands in all. finally a day where I put in a decent number of hands. 6 tabling seems ok, and 8 tabling is definitely too many (I had gone on the waiting list on like 15 tables and was staying in on a lot of them for 10 hands to figure out player stats and table select).

Seems like aside from this one MASSIVE SUCKOUT I am roughly even in terms of EV, and my memory of hands agrees with that as well.
Who knows, maybe I'll have the funds to join Night in vegas if I continue to run GooT.
