I am certain, 99%, that your laptop will not support the maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 on a 30 inch monitor. Monitors beyond 30 inches are really not affordable, though you can easily buy a 32 inch tv for very cheap and try that, but I don't recommend it if you are going to be using it like a traditional monitor.

That monitor might interest you. I have it, and it's decent, but I wish I had gotten the 30 inch because the monitor above only has a resolution of 1920 x 1200. That will however be supported by your laptop at least. |

Does that mean you are willing to switch to a desktop? If so then all you need to make sure is that your video card is dual-link DVI-D capable and you're good to go. |

You don't need to buy a converter if you buy a tv that has a vga port in the back, many do. I have a 46 inch lcd tv, and I've hooked it up to try it out. I wouldn't recommend using it as your main monitor, but if you want to try just hook up your laptop to a friends tv or go down to bestbuy and ask them to demo one for you. IMO your eyes will melt after a few days if you use this as a long term solution. |

Why is it so bad to use a normal TV as a main monitor? (I honestly have no idea) |

I guess for a lot of technical reasons that I don't even really know, but basically the resolution is much higher on a computer monitor, not enough pixels on a tv. TVs are good for displaying movies in bright vibrant colors, but not good at displaying text, especially up close, the brightness is very hard on your eyes. There are a lot of posts in forums from av nerds on this topic if you want further information.
8 Hours a day of computer usage is already bad enough on your eyes, you probably don't want to make it worse. 8) |

I have a 30 inch monitor, its nice. You could use a 1080p TV, it's all about resolution. 30 inch monitor is 2560 x 1600 and can fit 9 tables normal size with little overlap on top/bottom of tables(none on sides). However on a a 1080p, with a 1920 x 1080 resolution you can resize the tables and they will still be fairly large, Not sure how this would effect hud stats though.
pc to tv converter? almost all modern TV's have PCI slots and HDMI, and all modern video cards have HDMI slots. Which is what you will be using. Monitors do as well.
I have a 52" 1080p LCD tv as well. I suggest you get a 30" monitor and just sit 3-4 feet from it. Then again if your used tot he small resolution of a laptop a TV might be fine. |

I've been using the stars FPP 30" for about 2 years now i think and i'm starting to have eye problems (astigmatism / short sightedness). I just downgraded to a single 20" lately which serves the purpose just as well but it causes less problems for me. The highest i'd go would be 24".
30" is baller etc and its nice to use but its not worth it imo if you start getting problems down the road like i did. |

Also im not really sure what you mean by 'years of strain on my eyes from games obv' ??? The 30" wont really solve those problems. Its just a bigger monitor.
Computers need dual link dvi graphics card compatability to run 30" monitors. Most of these cost upwards of $3k last i checked. |

Buying a 40" TV as a monitor sucks because your pixels are a lot bigger, which means your image will be a lot less sharp. For example, when you compare a Dell 3008WFP monitor (30" with 2560x1600) it has 100.63 pixels per inch, and a dot pitch of 0.2524 mm (which means your pixel is that size). Compare that to a 40" tv, that has 1920x1080 and you get 55.07 pixels per inch, and a dot pitch of 0.4612, you can see the pixels are a lot bigger. You really dont want to use that as a monitor tbh, it gives pretty shitty image and unless you can find any tv or monitor with insane resolution, you're much much better off with a 30" screen (and perhaps a secondary monitor to the side). |
