10k rpm rators on raid 0 are a good idea, the only problem is ggplz doesn't know how to set up raid 0 and he also wants a SUPER silent pc. this wont happen, even a single one of them is somewhat noisy.(i got one)

the new generation is out, getting a q6600 is kinda dumb. i know its a good processor value wise but seriously.. no.

ati cards are garbage. I agree that the x2 is good though, but it doesn't outperform 2x 8800GTS 512mbs and he got a sli mobo so... also benchmarks are one thing, gaming is another one. x2 drivers are going to take a while before they are good anyway.

64 bit vista basic sounds pretty stupid to me, and 32 bit even more. ur better off with XP.

btw the compatibility problems are a fucking myth. I havent gotten a single compatibility problem with vista ultimate 64-bit since the beginning. Not only that, Vista service pack 1 came out recently and improved compatibility SO much among a lot of other things.

im on 64 bit windows and i had to return a usb to dvi converter because it wasnt compatible

q6600 overclocked is stable to 3.4ghz on air. and benchmark rates it as good as QX6850.

the new 9800X2 beats G92s gts sli mode. Radeon X2 beats the g92s too. not to mention g92s gts sli cost a lot more, and 2 g92 is less than 10% performance gain than 1 gts g92.

the benchmarks include fps on highest details and 3dmark. google for benchmark results and see for urself

64 bit vista ultimate edition (OEM, like 1/3 of the price but as long as i dont change components too much, it'll be cheaper )

also depending on the case you get you won't have to worry about hd sound.

also how big can you get ratpors at? Pretty sure they don't have anything that's over 250gb and nothing close to 750mb or 1 tera.. so not saying that using a 10k rpm hard drive in a raid is bad idea. But they are shitty for storage. I guess you can put your os and your fav games on a raptor and use a storage drive to place everything else on. But not too practical for someone who may have limited money. i'd rather take the same money and get a ton of storage.

Raptors are obviously not for storage space, the biggest format they have are the 150gbs and they are very expensive, they are extremely fast in raid 0. Poker players should first and foremost have fast hard drives for their database but nowadays the standard drives are becoming almost as fast as the raptors so...

Are you kidding me? 9800X2 doesn't beat 2 GTS 512mb. 9800X2 IS two GTS 512mb on one card but with slower clocks (600mhz) so how the fuck could it beat it?

9800X2 is $600+ and 2 GTS 512mb in SLI is like $500... so your wrong there again


About the Q6600 I suppose you havent compared it with the new quad cores? (the Q9450 in particular)? Who cares if it's faster than an outdated processor btw? what does that change? Of course it's going to be faster its overclcoked to better clocks?

I'm talking about like a sp2 Loco. I think currently we are all hating on vista just because of the small bugs it has. But honestly it has a lot of benefits including dx10 iirc. But i think that it's a fine OS and obviously will be far better then xp by the end of the year imo. But yeah i can see there not being any major reason to get vista now. But if someone gets it there is no reason for them to have to switch back to xp.

Yeah sure raptors are fast in raid i agree but you don't really need super fast hd for poker dbs. I mean what exactly are you doing on a daily basis to require that type of speed. But i mean not a big deal for a response as you've also said standard drives are pretty fast so it's probably not a huge difference.

But i agree with a lot of stuff u said loco just figured i'd comment anyway ;o not often i get to talk about computers on this forum.

Also side note, i don't get all these video card war discussions. Board/Processor/Ram is far more important imo for overall computer performance. But i mean shrug :D

we're gamers yo video cards are important. a lot to choose from recently too so that's why.

and about sp2... well sp1 just came out so let's not talk about sp2 already ?

but lost of people had it as developers iirc.
