Didn't like it, I think when a child is struggling, or tries to tell a parent "ahh school sucks, math sucks" or something along those lines, it's a way of trying to "open up", but people are complicated, we don't work that way. So if a kid comes home, and starts with "ahh I had a miserable day", and the parent respond with. But you have to keep studying, get good grades, we pay for you, you'll do it, ur a smart kid.
The kid will shut down, and withdraw, but if the parent is wise n awesome, it might try and relate to the kid, find out what emotions the kid is feeling, and respond by opening up, then the kid will open up, and you get more to the root of the problem.
I think this way of dealing with is will lead to so much resentment and ill will from the child it's nowhere close to being worth it.
