I'm having a similar problem although not to that extent. Like Fayth said, just keep going at it and making sure you're playing to the best of your abilities and the only way you'll lose is if you quit.

I feel as if I've "failed" at poker for the third time because of this. I've always wandered what it would be like to be one of those people, who say "I got my bankroll up to $xx,000 and never looked back" or "I won the $11,000 GTD and never looked back". Its been a year and 6 months, and I have nothing to look back on but endless shortcomings.

But, you all can't possibly be wrong. If you all say it can be done, then damnit I believe you. What motive do you have to lie to me? Because of all your positive comments I will try my hardest not to give up. Poker has been a gateway to many people's dreams because money helps to make it all possible. I have big dreams of my own in this world. I am trying my best to earn enough money to get off the boring ass island of Oahu and experience college life on the mainland. I want to someday marry the girl of my dreams.





And, I have 10 months left to do it.

Perhaps what attributed to my slow progress was that I never TALK with anyone about poker. I don't know anyone that plays poker on this island. I don't talk to anyone via messenger from liquidpoker. All I have is an expensive cardrunners membership and LP hands to look through.

I really want this to work and would be indebted to your kindness, if any good player would leave a message of wisdom whenever you see me post a hand. Extremely grateful if better players would drop their AIM/MSN screen names in my PM box, and make the time to talk with me a bit. Thank you all for your encouragement. I loves you.

I don't know what it is the pros did to get good, but I've been going over my hands and putting people on ranges at each street
eg 30% flush draw 20% over pair 10% set 10% monkey bluff etc
at least its something to work on that will improve your feel for the game.
I would think you could plug your own leaks with some careful comparison of your play to pros, and your PT stats with pros etc...
at least i hope its possible to improve this way or I'm screwed too

let me tell you one thing real quick..i might not be the person who will go and comment all your hands and help you with your game because I want to focus on myself more than others now but...


When I started poker, I was playing with money from my 10$/h shitjob and I was shortstacking NL 200/NL 400 and I lost a bunch, over 2000$ from my own pocket and got fucked by someone i thought was a friend too who taught me that poker was that, shortstacking those limits and try to build a roll this way, and the only tiem we actually managed to build a roll, he ran with the 1000$~ we managed to make. It leaved me depressed as hell and hopeless, and I had to go to work almost every day in this shitmood but eventually after a while I realized how much I could learn from this and how this bad experience pushed me to do my best and with the help of liquidpoker build back a roll and I did it, so can you.

What I want to know is the math for figuring out your equity vs that range without pokerstove..

Tilt is by far my biggest flaw at the moment. I dump BUYINS on tilt. At least i recognize it and am working to improve. It's more of a life issue than poker (behavioral issues i have had since childhood). I would like to think that intelligence and talent can overcome this and at times it does but I play make plenty of -ev plays when I know it when i just don't care. This game isn't all that hard especially at the limits we play but it takes a lot of concentration. As many people have said before I would rather stake a decent no-steam grinder than the best poker player ever with a hot head.

i've been there too man. started playing poker seriously this summer and after putting 400 in managed to grind my way up to 800 before winning a 11+1 tourney for 700 and moving close to 1500. then somehow with the luck of cards at 50NL moved to 2.3k in about 2wks and then went on tilt sessions after having a few bad beats and went to play massive amounts of turbo sngs with buy ins of at least 35$. i played when i got depressed (uncle getting cancer) and went down to 800. eventually i went back up to 2k on a sick heater and then after some bad beats here and there back around 1.6k. if you learn from your lesson, you'll be fine.

I know EXACTLY how you feel, I have been on NL50 for a long time now, and my bankroll just not moving, not really tilting hard but just going "meh... fuck it. call !" in small pots. And I know it sucks when you plug in a lot of hours whenever you can and its just not working out the way you want it to.
But I think you do get better with every session you play, and eventually you are going to stop making these mistakes and move up.

i dont think 400nl is still considered a grind or 200nl for that matter gumster, i think u can make a good living off at those stakes

why move up dependant on bankroll ?
i remember talentedtom saying he only moved up when he knew he was crushing the limit.

shit son, i went busto last December going on my monkey tilt session. Wasn't the first time i went broke, it was probably like the 5th or 6th time. But by then I've developed confidence in my game. Just had to fix my discipline: which is the most important part of poker. I restarted AGAIN with 100 bucks after recommendation from a friend after asking him to stake me because I needed to regain my confidence, revisit ABC poker and most importantly develop a solid discipline that will help me survive through tough times. In that first month i ran it up to 4k+ and started to grind the NL100 tables again. But then I had a 150k hand downswing. Although it wasn't the most money i've lost in a downswing it was sure as hell the longest and toughest i've ever experienced. ( lost 30 buys over that time ).

I learned a shit ton while rebuilding my roll and what it really takes to succeed at poker in general. After that I haven't looked back since. Sure i steam off 1 buyin here and there but I generally have my emotions under control most of the time now. Take it from me. Learn how to take beats and not let it effect your game. And even more importantly if you're playing for a living. Not let it effect other areas of your life. I took many tough lessons for me to learn. I hope this is the first and last for you.

NL200 and NL400 is very good money for the avg person. but it's still a fucking grind for sure.
