Baal makes a great point.

Even those of us who didn't do well (I failed quite miserably at poker) were able to take the experience to learn more about our character and what works, or doesn't work for us. I remember reading about Rekrul's first adventures in Korea circa 2009 and being inspired to take the plunge into the unknown as a naive ESL teacher as my first overseas experience.

Over time, I came to recognize my calling, eventually became licensed, and joined the International education circuit teaching in countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Mexico. I'm almost certain had I not come across poker I would have just taken the safe route after University and grinded some boring accounting job in New Jersey for like 40 years.

I had dreams of 4-tabling 10/20 HU matches and pulling in multi-six figure years just like the next guy, but I just had to accept that I didn't make it.Failing at poker helped me recognize the skill-sets I didn't have, as well as the ones I did have to find a career more suitable for my personality.

definitelly not 85% of this forum, I'd estimate about half did well, some did really well and transitioned into other things (rek, ket, naz etc) and a few others like myself still do well and live from it., also diagree that you dont evolve as a person, it can teach a lot of important lessons mostly about risk, loss and acceptance but many don't get it.

Your mention of poker teaching you life lessons reminds me of a recent tweet by Raszi.

Rekrul is a newb

Neat Whamm! Do you find you don't eat shrimp at all anymore now (since you're probably up to your tits in it haha). You're reminding me of Forrest Gump... hahah

Pretty sure we can all agree that for 85%+ of ppl, poker was a black hole that put real life on hold (enabled us to make coin to pay bills, didn't evolve us as people)

I feel for the guys/girls that are still sticking to it, putting in those hours. props (and sympathy) to them. Not knocking you guys (if you still exist), just know what a pit of overall despair that is

I don't know sounds to me like you are the one that is most miserable. Last time I saw you were active you posted a long-winded post that you quickly deleted about how you were 30k in credit card debt and an alcoholic, lol. I guess now that you are in the Canadian Military you have really found so much personal development.

It's generally the ones going on about how happy they are and how people should be like them that are the most miserable. I wouldn't listen to a single sentence that this guy says about anything.

How's the quarantine?

I was there in February of this year. Things were still normal when I was there, but turned to shit shortly after.

Yeah its the lockdown shit. Cebu was the strictest city in lockdown in the world. Still, you are not allowed to go anywhere without a mask on, without a quarantine pass (that the condo you rent at runs out of all the time) unless you are essential worked (doctors, food worksers, militarty, etc). They have military checkpoints everywhere

I mean its fine with me it's not like i want to go out much anyway. I guess itd be great if we got unlocked. The only thing thats pissing me off is the internet has been fucking slow as fuck in the last two weeks, im talking less than 1mbit download speed whole day. FML DUTERTE!!! FIX THE INTERNET!

Yeah, you guys are likely right. I was nowhere near as successful as the higher ppl on this site, likely why I have a negative overall memory of those times (I mean, there were some great benefits too obv.).

@hiems - yeah, I remember those times. Wasn't credit card debt, was student loan debt (paid that off finally, feels good phew). Still drink more than is healthy, tho not nearly as much as before. Good memory man! I likely misspoke about the 'not evolving as a person', that read more dickish than I meant.

I just compare my overall 'life/success/whatever' from then to now, and certainly wish I had started being a boring adult earlier lol. That being said, not saying everything is picture perfect now either.

Regarding quarantine, as of today where I work, it's mandatory to wear masks at the workplace whenever you're outside of your immediate work area, ugh

Well well. I guess I will join the reunion. Hello all. I also got a real job, my life has changed quite a bit. I love to gamble but only recreationally. There's a 1-3 live game that I played for a few years about a mile from my house. Won 2 bigs hands, never lost much... Easiest money ever. I had some losing nights, but for every night I lost, I had 4 nights where I won. It helped my pay off my student debt in 24 months and purchase a ring to propose with.

I love gambling. The rush... Plus, for the house having an advantage, I have luck boxed my way into a couple of jackpots playing scratch offs and bingo. Just stupid luck... Nothing else to it. But man, I miss poker...everything about it. We have an online "home game" I have been playing. $30 buy in. It fills the void for a few hours a week.

Personal life going well. Wife, kid... Love being a dad more than anything. I need to get my ass in shape. I wish I was as passionate about working out as I am about having fun. Probably my biggest life flaw at this moment. Hope you all are doing well.
