It feels like this site needs some content. SO HERE I GO HO HO HO! Is this blog content or filler. There are no visible ads on the site. The quality of the content of this blog is surely up for debate.
Anyway, today was my last day at my last job. It was ok. I didn't get a break per usual in the mornings. I made a lot of pizzas. God I am sick of making pizzas. It felt nice walking out that door today. I had a meeting with the bosses after I was done. It went ok. They all thanked me a lot and I realized afterward I wasn't thankful myself. 2 of the people are or were chefs and they didn't really teach me anything. They both could have given me a break the last 2 days but didn't. I still like them though. I am just fault finding. They asked me out for a beer afterwards and I just coldly said "I don't drink." I realized later I could have offered up that I could have a sweet tea but I just coldly said "I don't drink." This shit probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. I probably won't care about this interaction in 1 year or 5 years. And honestly, I think I rather literally starve than go back to work there. Amazon is the fucking worst. The bureaucracy, the managerialism. They fucking put surveillance cameras in the break room. And it was getting worse by the day. Good fucking riddance. Now, I need to get super active in this Food and Beverage union organizing. My goal is to get a union into Whole Foods someday. Of course, it's easy to say this as I can no longer be fired there. So many things to do and I'm right into the next job. It sucks.

What an asshole saying that to the guys extending a favour to you
How do you start a union if you don't even give a fuck about coworkers enough to go sit down with them after you're leaving?
Aren't unions organised by underpaid long term valuable workers that have goodwill of others and actual leverage? |

If someone asks me to have a drink with them my first response is "I don't drink." I have to guard my sobriety over peoples' feelings.
These were bosses. Bosses that I hadn't even seen in a month or so because I was on the closing shift until last weekend. Bosses that could have mentored me a bit more if they really cared. Bosses that could have covered a break for me when I was on the line the whole day but didn't. The one boss I didn't really appreciate how he was treating me at times even on my last day. I have solidarity with my labor comrades not my bosses.
I really don't know to be honest with you but I spoke to the "lead" organizer and he said I could be a valuable addition to the cause with my experience. |

are these bosses, or just normal workers that also flip pizzas that happen to have a supervisor role? |

In this particular situation I would never expect the store leader to cover my break. He's probably never stretched a pizza in his life. But the team leader and the chef (especially the chef) it is reasonable for them to cover a break. It is state law to get 30 min. every shift and the team leader and chef (especially the chef) are actually better than me at making pizzas.
At the last restaurant I worked at the owner and the head chef both would jump in when needed. In this situation the owner is actually Jeff Bezos. So, the thought of him covering my break is quite laughable. In the evenings both supervisors knew how to make pizzas and we would work out the breaks pretty efficiently. In the mornings I would never get a break unless my friend was working bistro that also knew how to make pizzas and would just say fuck it get out of here for a bit man and cover both stations but that was only if it was slow.
It's all water under the bridge anyways now. I would have no problems going back to work for those guys but I would do a better job of voicing my positions if it weren't for the fact that I don't want to make so many god damn pizzas or produce any food really and that Amazon is not a good company to work for if you are labor. |

I never knew that salaried bosses join unions. Unions are there to negotiate with the salaried bosses. |
