I dont play plo either but I'm following this challenge with interest. I really don't know what Phil was thinking into getting into these bets, many of which he seems very -EV in. Phil has also recently stated in a podcast with ChicagoJoey that RunitOnce is currently losing money/not profitable yet.

Is venivici a new plo god?

He should be able to make back some money from perkins after this one.

hiems   United States. Feb 03 2020 04:22. Posts 2979

He can win max 400k+250 from Perkins

Also his exposure vs jungle and actionfreak is very significant.

https://www.highstakesdb.com/profiles/pokerstars/ActionFreak.aspx
(Actionfreak hsdb)

Also think 1mm : 250k is a lot to lay in terms of sidebet vs Kornuth.

He should roll over kornuth after getting this much practice vs a top reg
It's 50k hands too, easy win

Main Q is if he can bring down his loss rate vs actionfreak to a few bb/100
would be a big achievement

It'd be shocking if he managed to beat ActionFreak
he's been one of the top regs apparently
and he;s battling llinus effectively simulating the challenge

Vs a stronger opponent than phil

Wonder why he accepted action from actionfreak. Seems like a bad idea. Gelfond is smart and has surely been studying and getting coaching from Sauce etc. To brush up.

How good is linus at PLO?

LemOn[5thF]   Czech Republic. Feb 07 2020 13:33. Posts 15163

it's marketing
and he knew he'd get 0-1 coaches to play him so he opened the challenge up

I don't understand the game much
But Phil seems to be improving a lot in the Vani match
you see less of that weird blockbet fold stuff for one etc.

I don't understand btw, he kept saying he felt he has an edge, expected to be winning
Even 500k down he tweeted that he's got a better strategy based on hands

45 BIS down he kept saying this went against his positive expectation before the challenge so it was even worse than 45 BI...

But...how? He hasn't played a long highstakes battle in well over 10 years, ever since he got to nosebleeds he wasn't battling regs self admittedly

And he's vs an up and comer top10-20 guy who was studying and grinding nonstop past few years

He was always supposed to be a slight dog at least
This brutal bad run aside

I know a lot of people rooting for him and think he is a sicko for turning it around, but Galfond is getting slaughtered so far, -7bb/100 is not a good winrate for reg vs reg at nosebleeds, in 2020. Of course, it may be that galfond is just running bad and is the better player, or it could be he is only a marginal loser at -2bb/100~.

I'm curious, why no one wants to play each other in NLHE?

Stroggoz   New Zealand. Mar 29 2020 18:11. Posts 5296

There's some battling in nlhe for HU, but the game is close to solved so edges tend to be small. maybe ask drone666 since he is the HU specialist on LP, he plays up to 10/20 hu so he would know better.

3 and 4max in nlhe hardly happen either. The average winrate for a reg in 3max at highstakes is -1.5bb/100~, and its usually only the very best regs that are battling 3 handed.

lots of action NLHU lately, it's mostly battles going on stars, if you check highstakes thread on 2+2, majority of hands are NLHU
and I dont think the current NLHU top regs are that good or close to GTO, so I dont think the game is solved, Linus kicks eveyrone's ass when he plays HU now I think

this variance is so unbeleivably the exact kind of variance you'd want for a movie script where the hero has an epic comeback at the end.

There’s ~20k in rake missing from those numbers. This could end up mattering a lot if the deal says that Veni must be ‘up’ but I’m sure they thought of that...

Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated.

If rake was missing surely the number that Galfond is up and Veni is down would be different?

Yes, missing in that it is not represented because the numbers should be different.

very cool Galfond interview at Joeingram podcast

I agree with most of what he says about solvers, even though his point is stronger for PLO
but people play very far from solvers still ( even nlhu ) and it's not very efficient to try to emulate a solver as a base strategy

Dont listen to anything I say

Stroggoz   New Zealand. Apr 08 2020 19:36. Posts 5296

in 6max People play a lot more like solvers, and far better, than they did 3 years ago. But yeah there are still a lot of mistakes people make, and in general the less common a spot is the more deviation from solver strategy in the population.

a lot of nodelocking is just clicking buttons as well. For example if someone overfolds rivers a lot, you can only nodelock for one specific turn + river card. That's 44x43 different rivers you need to nodelock for if you want to see the real affect it would have on flop+turn strategies. You can't accurately study most spots with nodelocking.

I also have a bunch of z500 hands from 2015 and it's remarkable the difference between how people played back then and how they do now, i could post the differences if people want

Don't tell me people play like solvers BBvBU and BvB properly
literally 0 regs play near even the limited solver sizings and frequencies at NL200 in those two

I keep playing vs solver in twose two spots and I'm miles off and so is everyone else I play

Also I’ve been looking at the next challenge v Bill Perkins and I think Phil has done a fantastic piece of business since 4-1 is illusory because Bill Perkins wouldn’t have played him like this otherwise.

Because it is first to 20bi it is effectively 1400k v 650k so nearly 2-1. That’s pretty good odds to trap a fish at.

How is nobody talking about Polk vs Negreanu.

Finally Negreanu decided to pay for his sins by donating a good pile of cash willingly to Polk
