Google translate this news: https://www.revistaforum.com.br/segun...ado-pela-rede-por-atitude-mercenaria/

It's a news that says a physician was on board of a flight when a passenger showed symptoms of a heart attack. The company asked if there was a doctor on board to help the passenger and he raised his hand and helped him. Everything turned out ok in the end. That was in march 2017. Some days ago he made a post on facebook saying that he still waiting the company to pay for his service. The company replied his post saying that he volunteered and they don't pay for such 'services'. He replied saying that it would have been very expensive if the company had to land the airplane in order to give the passenger medical assistance.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on it

Air company. Physician donated his time to save a life. If it was me, I'd refund his flight as a thank you immediately but I don't believe they have to at all, in fact I'd prefer in this case if they continued to tell him to fuck off for his tactics. Ethically, his mission and purpose in life is to save lives and help people. While, yes, there's no time for negotiation or a contract to be written up, his assumptions (greed?) here are dangerous and his actions to make it public are out of line. I'd still refund him because it settles it with class but fundamentally, his mission is to save lives... even if he misses like 10 min of Bewitched on the flight.

I hope one day he gets into a car wreck, is pinned to his seat, while a small fire breaks out near the fuel tank, and the person who walks up to his door says "how much?" while he's begging for help to escape.

bye now

Doctors are obligated by oath to help people in immediate danger.. Ofc that the Air company doesn't owe him anything... or as Baal put it, he is a cunt

Also NewbSaibot your logic is quite flawed here ... its not like he wanted pre-payment, he did the right thing, he s just an asshole about it though

They have an oath/declaration. I'm no lawyer but if a physician has the ability to save someone's life and instead chooses to fuck about on the flight and let the seeds fall where they may, that sounds like criminal negligence to me. Don't even try to defend this pos.

Don't see how he's a cunt. It's not like he's bringing them to court or refused to give his services when needed, he made a post on social media, if anything, to bring light to these type of situations.

And he is right, the company did save a shitload of money not having to emergency land somewhere in route, and the least the company could of done, is given him a free flight somewhere or something.

But scummy air companies gonna scum, as always.

You all are making up that he somehow was thinking of not helping out because there was no payoff, which is an (bad) assumption.

The issue is that money shouldn't enter his mind at all, whether it's the cost to the airline or himself. It's about the ethical principles as part of his profession and physicians aren't poor. By arguing that the airline saved money, he's saying that by him being there, he was the most economical option for them. In other words, he's saying he deserves to be paid something because surely he's worth more than nothing as he did them a service/favour. Not only that he deserves to be paid but that there was an unspoken agreement formed between the airline and himself on the spot where he would be paid. He's trying to use an economically leveraged argument that threatens another passengers life which is totally immoral, especially for a physician! It's not a favour, they have no relationship with him and he should be absolutely ashamed of behaving like this.

By asking that he be paid and pressing it through publicly sharing the fact he wasn't, his intention is to defame the name of the airline to create pressure to receive something. None of this does any good for anyone and I'd argue that it has the potential to significantly hurt himself over chump change through damage to his reputation. And imo, it should hurt him. So yeah, he's a total fuckin' cunt.

Doctor does right thing which happens to be a huge help to airline. If airline gave him nothing -- they really should have paid for his flight or given him a free future flight -- then I see no problem with asking for some form of payment after the fact. I will almost always side with the individual over a large business being nitty in situations like this. If he asked the passenger for payment....that would be another story.

If the Airline compensates him, it's good and classy. But if they don't, I don't think it's something to be upset about and making a scene in for. I hate to quantify everything to a monetary value, it's dehumanizing and really don't help towards making a better future.

I think he shouldn't ask for money or any compensation. If you have the skillset to save somebody's life and nobody else around does, then you save the person's life. I also think the airline could have just offered him some small compensation as a thank you and it'd make them look much better. But I dunno how much the guy asked for. Maybe granting him anything would be regarded as admission that they owe him something and he wanted x percentage of how much money they saved from not having to land - which I find really unreasonable.

I do not think the doctor should even have to ask about compensation, the business should have ask what he would like as a gift for saving them money.

The doctor is a greedy fuck. You went into a profession to help save lives. This air passenger didnt try to have a heart attack. You going to sit there and watch him/her die? Its a clear moral obligation to assist. Demanding financial compensation in an emergency and unexpected situation on a plane is a dick move. Bunch of greedy fucks these days living their lives with no morals on how to be a good human being.

Now im no doctor but if someone was in an emergency and i could help with my skillset its a no brainer. Its not about money, its about maintaining morality.

um, probably varies alot from country to country but at least in the us, don't doctors have to deal with substantial insurance costs?? (at least i think??), not sure how it works in this case/country, or what the liability would be if the doctor f** up somehow in helping the person and got sued. not sure why no one is mentioning this. can't expect the doctor to get sued/have his premiums go way up without compensation. again, im not entirely sure how it works in detail, maybe if someone is in the field they can elaborate.

also i generally dislike those in the medical industry (in america). im not sure what it is exactly either, they are just very cunt-like to me. maybe i am just jealous, haha.

The thing is, ofc its a no brainer to save a life, he did.
To the airline it should be a no brainer to award the guy.....

You are calling this guy a cunt, yet he saved a life?

the post says he is waiting for the air company to "pay for his service" he didnt say something like they didnt give him any complementary thing token of the apreciation, it says payment.

and no he didnt even save a life, a passenger had symptoms and yes, you can save a life and still be a cunt.
