Other

- Neil Seery pulled out of his fight against Ian McCall on January 29 due to the passing of his mother-in-law. Seery was replaced by promotional newcomer Jarred Brooks on January 30.
- George Sullivan was scheduled to face Randy Brown at the event. However on January 26, Sullivan was pulled from the card after being notified by USADA of a potential anti-doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected earlier this year. Belal Muhammad was chosen as his replacement on February 4.
- Luis Henrique was expected to face Marcin Tybura, but was pulled from the bout on February 1 due to NYSAC concerns related to a corrective eye surgery he underwent almost a year ago. He was replaced by Justin Willis on February 6. In turn, the bout was scrapped entirely as Willis was deemed "medically unfit" to compete one day before the weigh-ins.
- Ian McCall became ill after the weigh-ins, and remained ill the day of the fight. Doctors said he wasn't well enough to fight. This marks the 5th fight in a row that has been cancelled in some manner by Ian McCall or his opponent, which is why he hasn't fought in 2 years.

this seems like a nice event to watch (for brazilians). I can only comment on the last 4 fights in the card and I basically agree with PR except Holm > GDR imo. Would like to see Silva win again but he looks chinny, slower and blablabla everything we saw in his last fights. Still I love we can still watch him fight, he's very enjoyable to watch.

If Brunson doesn't go for a fast TD, he's gonna try and strike with Anderson and get countered when he throws a big overhand or big hook. Anderson doesn't need a lot of power to land a clean one and stun Brunson real bad and TKO him on the ground.

Anderson is my final pick.

The fight can go either way, but I think Brunson is gonna fall for the tricks of Anderson and get flustered and TKO'ed.

Willis pulled from his fight because he couldn't cut enough weight in time. He was the heavyweight on short notice.

Izzy Martinez has been with team Jacksons MMA for 2 years or so. Holly has trained with him for over 1 year at least.

Both Holly and Germaine showed grappling in their workout videos. Many people expect Holly to go for take downs at some point. However, if she fails on her first TD attempt, it'll make her hesitant and less confident on her next TD attempt, which wiill mean she knows she is forced to keep striking. Even if she is comfortable striking with Germaine, having doubt in her mind from a failed part.of her strategy will hurt her a little bit.

I personally think Germaine will win, possibly R3 TKO.

UFC trying to build her so they can sell more, everyone know who she is because of the Ronda KO, good looking, amazing body and well spoken.

Not to mention the only title fight of tonight lol

Glover and Jacare don't sell Pay-Per-Views, and Anderson Silva hasn't won a fight since October 13, 2012.

Holly is fighting for a title in a new division.

Someone knows what's the difference bewteen fighting in Brasil and another place testing wise? Schaub always implies that fighting there is very "different" but never tells why. Not USADA there or what?

I think that was pre-USADA but I might be wrong.

BTW Texeira continues to open about 90% with his right hand, that is extremely exploitable, I am surprised he doesnt get knocked out because of it much more often, I guess its testament of the relative low level of striking in MMA compared to pure striking sports

USADA = U.S. Anti Doping Agency = only for fights in USA.

UFC does their own testing when they have events in Brazil.

29-28 brunson seemed more correct imo even tho anderson seemed fresher after the fight. i feel if it was a 5rd fight he'd maybe finish brunson but the way it played out in 3 it was 29-28.
30-27 anderson is bullshit.,

I dont think 30-7 is crazy (not that I agree with it) no round was a clear win for Brunson, 90% of the punches he landed were those partially blocked hooks silva ate while he held the collar tie

I think most people already figured that low output works against Anderson and that makes the fights boring

I dont think Holly should retire she is in great shape she is a cardio machine, she just needs to re-learn how to use her hands, she needs a Mike Tyson intense course, hooks and uppercuts only, lots of head and waist movement, get in-out with angles and level changes and not sprints.

Nah she gassed hard and Holly got slightly smarter and didnt open with the charging 1-2-1 every time and threw more kicks and grappled more, 4th and 5th clear Holly rounds.

Hollys offensive wrestling was awful, she barely did any level change before shooting and she was way to fucking far and didnt time them at all, and in the clinch she simply couldnt get anything going even against someone gassed and with weak wrestling.

Doesnt she train with Jackson? I dont get why she doesnt improve.

Brunson won that fight bruh...

And Holly... what the f was that shuffle 1-2 punch opening combo? She was throwing that without any intention of hitting Germaine so she can land a leg kick?? What a high level game plan by high level coaches at that high level gym in Albookerkie... fucccccck

No, Holly didnt charge with the 1-2-1 combo a single time against Ronda which would have been an obviouis suicide against a judoka, she beat her with check hooks and straigth rights

About the Anderson fight, he is very noticeably slower, the difference is quite big, crazy how the body deteriorates fast in a few years.

He also should avoid the thai clinch against strong wrestlers, Weidman rocked him time ago in that exact position and now against Bruson he would have cruised to a clear win if he only didnt try the pummel, I think he simply was used to bully physically weaker fighters with it, the most obvious example against Rich Franklin, but he isnt as strong as he was, middleweights today as bigger than ever and when a big guy with strong wrestling shows up it appears that he can simply keep upright create distance and punch at will while Anderson just stays there unable to dish out knees in exchange.

Not at all. Read the "betting tips #5" https://mmabettingtips.com/ufc-208-holm-vs-de-randamie-betting-tips-picks/
I think it explains pretty well why GDR was the favorite comming into this fight. And the explanation isn't "holly sucks".

GDR is simply a really really high level striker.

Essentially, we could summarize it with this: Holm was an elite kick boxer, but she's now past her prime and her skills apparently didn't fully transfer to MMA.

GDR is still in her prime and younger, and is considered to be the greatest female Muay Thai fighter of all time.

Do you have a source for this? I didn't pay close attention to the commentating during the match, nor did I watch any of the UFC hype videos, but if she is/was the greatest, I think they would have mentioned it during the broadcast.

GDR isn't the greatest muay thai fighter of all-time. She was one of the best muay thai fighters during the time she fought, as was Valentina Shevchenko.

Holm isn't an elite kickboxer either. On paper, she is considered one of the best female boxers of all-time, even though she ducked certain fighters and wasn't the best defensive fighter nor was she the best offensive fighter during her boxing career.

Holm is 35-years-old and has fought the same way in MMA since Day 1. She had a good match-up with Ronda, and had lackluster fights before and after she won and lost the UFC title. None of her UFC performances were high level or exciting aside from the fight against Ronda.

I had GDR winning Rounds 1/2/3. I totally blanked out and lost interest in Rounds 4/5, but I think I gave GDR at least one of them.

Holm head kicked GDR in Round 4 or something, but she didn't do anything else in that round. The commentators were also biased as fuck.

Aside from the head kick, the fight went like I thought it would. Although, I thought GDR would get a laye finish, but she kept calm and never went for the kill, she just countered Holly like Shevchenko did and made sure to defend the shitty TD attempts Holly kept spamming against the cage with no damage done in the clinch.

Re robbery: several UFC fighters said Holly won, which is dumb. You can find the article on MMA Junkie: http://mmajunkie.com/2017/02/twitter-...ng-victory-over-holly-holm-at-ufc-208

Holly would have had a much better chance if she tried the takedowns on the 1st round, tiring GDR, making her slightly worried about the TD so her striking would get diminished and then trying to spam her stupid combos.

Obviously its easy to come up with the perfect strategy after the fight, and even then she probably wouldn't have anything above 60% chance of winning.

The fight with Cyborg will be great, Cyborg has only faced a striker of this caliber once and she lost (Baars), but it was a kickboxing match and the fact that Cyborg can take GDR to the ground if things arent going her way in the standup is HUGE, i think the grappling and size advantage are too big for GDR to overcome.
