John Morgan (MMA Junkie media member) mentioned that Case was up over Mathews 20-18 on two scorecards.
Pretty crazy considering the way the fight went. I was backing Case, but I had Matthews clearly winning the fight.
Same here. Though I was maybe expecting a judge to give a 1-1 into the third. But then Matthews himself said in the post fight interview that 'Yeah I moved to get into that choke because I guess he was maybe up on the scorecards' or something like that. Pretty surprising

Really? Rothwell is so weird to me. He was losing all 4 of the fights on his streak up until the finish. His striking is terrible technique wise, his TDD sucks, and besides that sneaky choke in his last two fights the last we saw him grapple Hunt was dominating him on the ground.
JDS looked bad vs overeem too.
Its hard to pick, especially a 5 round HW fight. Wanna lean towards JDS tho.

Agreed with both you guys, I just think JDS is shittier at this point. Those wars with Cain fucked him up or something

If somebody has said a few years ago, that Ben Rothwell will be a betting favorite against JDS, he would of been laughed out of the room.
Big Ben has cost me dearly in his last few fights, as I always bet against him and will do so again this time. The guy is just big, slow, lumbering mess who can take a fucking bat to the head and keep coming. He is always dangerous due to his size, chokes and toughness, but can't help to think He is the perfect match up for JDS to shine.

Not really an 'or something.' He definitely lost years off his career...and maybe a year or two off his life from those 2nd and 3rd fights with Cain. He basically fell dead from about eighteen minutes of getting his face beaten in while exhausted in that third fight more so than from the single shot that KO'd him officially.
It's pretty easy to want to bet against Rothwell when he's up against any near top tier fighter since he's so technically unimpressive but that's the line of thinking that's lost me money in 3 of his last 4 fights. And JDS really did look a good bit worse in his last fight vs Reem although definitely credit to Reem for looking good and sticking with his gameplan in that fight. Pass for me

I really feel for JDS. I wonder if his corner shouldn't have just thrown in the towel those fights, ugh.
You almost twin-caracked his AK - JonnyCosmo

They definitely should have, especially in the 3rd fight after they saw how the 2nd fight went. It was probably in the back of their minds though that JDS could possibly knock him out at any time.

I just watched Rothwell vs cain old fight. Ben took a beating in that 1st round no man should be able to take; don't care he got his ass whooped cause JDS aint gonna be chain dipping him to the mat like that. Feeling good about my bet
ben asks his corner at the end of the first round "what do i do to stop the single mike?" so that fight may have looked different with his current Takedown defense which i'm assuming he has improved

In hindsight, they definitely shoulda thrown in the towel in that third fight...possibly as early as midway through the third round. But it would've been really really tough to do it in the actual moment...not just because JDS does/did have 1 hitter quitter power but also i think because they (junior and his camp) probably thought it was going to be juniors last chance to grab his title back. At the time, most thought Cain wouldn't be dethroned any time soon. And you definitely can't clamor for a 4th fight with the same guy after gettin beaten up for two rounds then having the towel thrown in. So yeah it is what is. Just unfortunate that JDS did have to take that extra heavy punishment with him not even able to really think about the 1 miracle shot to land because he was smothered to exhaustion like 4 min 55 secs of each 5 min round. On the bright side, if he shows some signs of physically getting back even 75% of what he had, he could still get a small win streak going which is all you need in the heavies to possibly get a title shot. And from there, if Werdum is still champ, easy storyline in with JDS easily handling a much greener to Mma Werdum. Guessing though that irregardless of if he was a PED user or not, just the head trauma he's received (also in stipes fight) recently crushed his punch resistance. Reem Ko doesn't bother that much because reem can Ko anyone on a give night but yeah I think it's going to show sometime soon. Which will make it pretty difficult on this final run

Rothwell is a red blooded American man's man, so damn hard to put away.
If the JDS that fought Reem shows up - looking Testosty deprived (his hairline receded a lifetimes worth in about a year), hesitant, etc - def gotta favor Ben
That said, JDS hits so hard that he may even be able to put Big Ben away with that overhand right. He also does have a nasty snatch single leg, the same style Cain was employing on Ben. I doubt he could get Big Ben down flat though so probably would only matter in confusing Ben and setting up his bombs.
All in all though I gotta agree, it would be foolish to go off anything but the most recent versions, gotta favor Mr. Durable and Weird over shopworn warrior JDS, but if neither happen to ever connect and it goes the distance JDS prolly take a snoozer. I doubt that happens though. JDS will probably want to come out guns blazing after his last AWFUL performance.

Yah. Tough call at the time. Especially because he was still OK after the first Cain beatdown in their 2nd fight. He ate some big Hunt shots after that fight and was seemingly no worse for the ware. He's never been the same since Cain took his soul in the third fight though. Stipe, who doesn't hit that hard for a HW, was rocking him consistently.
