Need help on the moving process to cash out my Merge balance through Skrill. Do they speak English down there (baja/tijuana)? Anybody done this and can help me out? I need a place to live temporarily, a bank account, and proof that I live there.

Careful in Tijuana bro it used to be chill back when you could go back and forth with just a drivers license. Now you need a passport and if you are white there is a chance you can be kidnapped for ransom or even killed in some weird ritual.
There are some young hotties in the brothels though that they bring in from the rest of Mexico. Gotta find the right place though because some are definitely better than others only $60 a throw.
I'd recommend going further south into Baja either la Paz or fly all of the ways down to Cabo. It is much more chill and absolutely beautiful.

I was thinking about this lately too, it's hard to get money off Merge for US players.
Things I know:
-You need a Mexican bank account, 2+2 threads said a peso account is easy, but a USD account requires a visa or something and is difficult to attain? So there will be conversion charges(USD>peso>USD). Someone said you need 1k to open an account(I or they could be wrong).
-Lots of Americans in Tijuana(Rosarito is said to be better/richer/safer?), lots of US poker players too.
-You need a lease(you rent by day, week, month, year depending on the leaser).
-Some poker sites require a utility in your name(stars&FT do, dunno about Merge), which is hard to get because supposedly only land owners can do that?
-You can negotiate apartment prices in Mexico.
-Summer time prices go up, the shorter your lease the more expensive rent is.
-Lots of furnished apartments(look on craigslist).
Search 2+2 because there are a quite few threads about moving abroad, bank accounts, mexico, etc.

Also, if you have the money, there some websites out there that will handle everything for a fee(I think like 1k? Don't really know)

pokerrefugees cost 1650 for their service, not including flights, which is probably worthwhile. I'm seeing how hard it is to do on my own. If not, I'll probably go with them.

U guys are seriously going to sit here and try to tell me Tijuana isn't a shithole? I get patriotism. I'm from the USA but I'm not going to tell you Cleveland Ohio is a great place.
Tijuana is nothing but brothels, bars, little casinos, and pharmacies. With a bunch of hustlers everywhere trying to sell everything from donkey shows to guns to drugs. Well... Anything. Maybe it is urban myth mostly but I know at least some of the kidnapping stories are true. Crew of college kids go over the border to party and the blonde kid doesn't make it back... But his mutilated body is found. Or put in a car made to look alive while his body is stuffed full of cocaine. Those are probably exaggerated stories but I know something similar to the first one is true at least. There is no denying kidnapping is a problem in South America and Mexico whether it be wealthy nationals or foreigners.
US military soldiers stationed in San Diego are not allowed to go to Tijuana. That should tell you something; there is nothing 'wholesome' about the place. It's all dirt, vice, and illegal activity.

And don't get me wrong I love the place just keep your head up if you roll down there cause it can be sketchy and remember to keep a decent bit of dough close at hand because you can bribe your way out of anything (and will sometimes be forced to pay a bribe even when you have done nothing). Every cop is some degree of 'corrupt' just the way it works down there.
The Tijuana of Norway is up in Finmark, a lot of shady shit going on there, including reindeer killing, prostitution, cults, rituals and crazy shit like that. This one time, many years ago, was driving away from there, some kids were playing in the snow, drawing letters using blood.
@ traxamillion
I live in tijuana I was born in Tijuana
you are being exaggerated
if it is true that there are areas of conflict
as the area north of the city
that is full of prostitution and drug sales
Also there are good areas to live
that are cheaper than cabo
and closer to USA
15 of 20 min to the border
this place is just a few meters from the international border between Tijuana and San Isidro https://www.google.com.mx/search?q=ne...ved=0CD0QsAQ&biw=1768&bih=907

I think I have everything I need thanks to a PM from a very helpful member. But if you can give your opinion, I guess it would be helpful.
1. Best area to live in? How long can I be in Mexico without a visa?
2. Can you live there speaking English? (Banks, supermarket, cable service, rent, etc)
3. How much is rent? How long are the leases typically? Can I rent for just 1 month?
4. What documents do I need to set up a bank account? Will my funds be reported to the US for tax purposes? Do I have to pay tax in Mexico too? (For US citizens)
5. How easy is it to set up Skrill?
6. Am I safe traveling alone with all the beheadings down there?
More merge specific (maybe same as stars, I haven't done it so I don't know):
7. Basically... anything you know on changing addresses. How do I provide a utility bill under my name if I'm renting, etc.
Thanks LP!

I'm curious for the answers to these questions because I'm considering moving down there for summer.
1. Best area to live in? How long can I be in Mexico without a visa?
in tijuana? there are many
not need visa, but if you travel to the center of the country need a permit, at the border is not necessary
2. Can you live there speaking English? (Banks, supermarket, cable service, rent, etc)
definitely
3. How much is rent?
all depends on the place, but you can be sure it's much cheaper than california
How long are the leases typically?
the most used is 6 months
Can I rent for just 1 month?
all depends on the place
4. What documents do I need to set up a bank account?
proof of address, ID, money, that's usual for us Mexicans guess is the same I recommend using banorte
Will my funds be reported to the US for tax purposes? Do I have to pay tax in Mexico too? (For US citizens)
I have no idea
5. How easy is it to set up Skrill?
I have the skrill card and it works great here in tijuana
6. Am I safe traveling alone with all the beheadings down there?
I think you run the risk of anyone in a strange place

Nitewin,
If I were you I would consider somehow obtaining that permit and living in a legitimate city in Mexico rather than Tijuana. I would consider something like this but not right now so I haven't done research but even general idea of Mexico City vs Tijuana, Mexico City>Tijuana by miles. My personal opinion.
I beat Loco!!!
Well yeah why would anyone want to live in Tijuana? ridiculous choice lol
Thats like wanting to live int he US and pick Detroit of all the cities.

What's the process for getting a permit? Remember, my main goal is to cash out some money from Merge, which can be done in 1 month or less. It's not like I'm moving there forever - although it's not, not an option.

Even if its just for one month why not spend it in a beautiful place instead of some random ugly city? You can go to Playa del Carmen like most poker refugees do:
