Tournament legend Sorel Mizzi also known as “1mperium” is no stranger to controversy and accusations of cheating, and once again the harsh light of suspicion has been cast over the 29 year old Canadian player regarding his alleged use of a few different accounts. It seems he used yet another account to final table the recent WCOOP Main Event. It is said he also tried to glean information from a friend who also made the final table (who didn’t know Mizzi was still playing in the same tournament).
The allegations were first posted on 2+2 forum by a brand new account “StillDoingIt”, obviously set up in order to protect the identity of the source and leak out the information regarding Mizzi. The posts contain circumstantial evidence which doesn’t exactly offer any proof, but certainly sounds credible and other pros claim they were aware of the alleged situation.
The post reads:
“Sorel Mizzi final tabled the most recent WCOOP event under the name bindernutnut. Karma prevailed and he eventually finished 9th. Speculation that he was using multiple accounts is not yet confirmed nor is the speculation that he has been doing this for a long time has been confirmed yet. He played the tournament from his house in Las Vegas using a VPN set.
Perhaps the most shocking part of the story is that one of his friends Rory Brown also final tabled the event and Sorel spoke with him about strategy in the final table and offered to help him before the final table started.
London Royals manager and PokerStars pro Liv Boeree knew all about this and she is one of the people on Sorels side (not telling her employers PokerStars) and putting it down to mental problems he has had. Many other pros know about this and it has been gossip within the high stakes circles in Las Vegas for the last few months.
Antonio Esfandiari and other former friends of Sorel have apparently stopped believing him and turned on him and asked him to repay all his debts.
All of the above is factual, the suggestions that he has always continued to multi account playing via VPNs and betrayed more of his friends is simply unconfirmed speculation.”
It didn't take long for one of the known players, WSOP Main Event champion Joe McKeehan, who posts as “isuxatpokerbad” to confirm the above information by saying: “Rory has told me this story before back in December so it’s not a random thing the OP is making up.”
StillDoingIt revealed more in a follow up to the post:
Mizzis story of cheating - how it all started?
Back in 2007, Mizzi purchased an account from his friend who had made the Final Table of the Full Tilt Sunday Million after busting out himself earlier. Mizzi won the tournament, but was subsequently caught and stripped of all his winnings. This was the same time Sorel Mizzi’s account on PokerStars was banned (zangbezan24), allegedly also for account selling violations.
3 years later Mizzi was allegedly caught red-handed “bottom dealing” by John Racener (although Mizzi denies all this) during a live game.
Furthermore, alleged online discussions between Mizzi and Steve Weinstein came to light in which Mizzi talks about the best ways to cheat during online tournaments.

VPN'ing is whatever. I think most people are indifferent on the issue. I choose not to do it and I don't like the fact that some people do it but I'm not going to look down on someone or consider them scummy if they do it.
The horribly unethical part of what he "allegedly" did is essentially super-using his friend while they were at the same WCOOP final table (pretending to sweat him to give strategic advice). If that's true, this thing should be looked at just as badly as how the Hastings thing was.
Seems like he is pretty guilty with people like Joe McKheen & Jason Mo confirming the allegations as true. |

vpning is obviously only scummy if winning regs do it that hurt your expectation but absolutely fine and welcomed if huge fish in banned countries do it |

I meant playing, then using vpn to operate second account.
I had a friend who wanted to do this on carbon and I said wtf I thought you had ethics. His explanation was, well, I know of at least three other regs who are doing it.
I thought PS had something set up to catch all the Americans trying to play? |

Multi accounting (multiple accounts in same tourney / game) = scummy
Using vpn is so what? |

What's the ratio of vpning regs:fish? 30:1?
You think fish really love stars so much that they will break the tos and go through a big hassle when there are alternative sites?
Sorry I disagree.. and it's scummy because you must be deceitful to accomplish your goal of vpning to stars, risking bankroll seizure because of breaking the tos.
It's not really that big of a deal, but it still registers on the scum scale |
