i know but he was kind of a nit. so i didnt want to lose him and exploit him more on the river.

so what exactly what were you trying to keep him in with? ace high? just bet $8-9 and if he has something he calls or raises and if he has nothing he folds anyway. betting smaller is better against an aggressive player in this scenario cause they may raise bluff you, whereas a nit won't.
