if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN

Sounds like the opposite of my experience. Everyone was friendly and upbeat and the majority of players were loose cannons. I played on a Friday night, starting at around 8pm-2am.
Funny story: I was talking to some old timer who was used to playing limit poker and he was complaining about how these new fangled players were imitating poker stars on TV by going all in and what not. I nodded sympathetically and agreed but what was funny was how I stacked him in the next hand by going all in. The look of disgust on his face was priceless... |

When you win, do you have to take chips out of the table as well? Or is it only capped when you buyin? |

You can take the chips off the table if you mean to play. What's on the table stays on the table. That being said, you can tip from it, which kind of annoys me because it's just more money being taken off the table. Like, you can order drinks and shit, and they're "free" as long as they're not alcoholic. But you are expected to tip them every time they bring you something. And that can be out of your stack.
It's annoying because the drinks are fucking half full with ice and shit and the waitresses are like old, they weren't even hot. |

I guess another thing to add is that people were pretty uncomfortable being in a pot with me when I was near 500bb deep, even when they only had 50bb to play for. I guess I had a pretty beast image. |

The "regs" were doing a lot of minraising, and I was like what the fuck is this... some NL2 shit going on. The homegames I go to are tougher than these games. Like much tougher. So I guess it prepared me well.
On that note, even though the players were weaktight, I never went as far as really exploiting them because I didn't think they are still capable of folding. Or rather, I find them very spazzy. I've seen them fold like pair of aces with kicker of 9 or whatever. But I find them spazzy enough to call your jam or whatever with it when the board plays out worse because they're sick of folding or whatever. And the only reliable way to beat a spazzy player is to make strong hands and taking it to showdown. You do not ever want to pay spazzy players off. |

Rake was ridiculous. It's 10% up to $5 for every pot, plus tip and plus BBJ rake which is separate from your regular rake I think. I don't know how that translates into bb/100, but I recall it being completely ridiculous.. I think even in a 30 dollar pot, like 5 bucks would come off of it due to BBJ. It's either that, or someone makes a bet to like 20 in a 30 dollar pot, thus making the pot 50 bucks, and then they take 5 dollars off or something.. I don't know.. it was ridic. |

not saying they were playing good or anything, but open up your mind. minraising might be optimal at times in live poker. you cant play the "unexploitable" way like you have to online, you will be much better off playing in a very "explotable/exploitive" manner so you can take advantage of your opponents leaks while they dont take advantage of yours because they suck. I do shit @ live like limp/3betting AA which is like "lolwut" for online play but its pretty optimal at some live settings. also I play something like 75/40 VPIP/PFR and that could never work online
jus saying
nice write up tho and gl |

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol

yah what player999 said is important.
I had this problem when talking to a friend who learned some robotic style: "you should 4xbb preflop etc..."
this is not an optimal way of thinking. same thing with saying minraising is always bad. |

Gentlemen, I am well aware that minraise is sometimes optimal in certain settings. In fact, I use it myself in certain situations as it is part of my arsenal. So is limp-reraising and all sorts of "fishy" moves. With the right purpose behind it, it can definitely be used optimally imo. But it certainly wasn't optimal with what these regs were doing as it was often for value and it was giving a lot of draws the correct odds to call and hit it.
But thank you for trying to open my eyes to new possibilities, I feel that there are a lot of wisdom to be found in LP as long as you open your eyes and look for them. This certainly is one of those cases. |
