Actually NOT allowing fights is pretty stupid. European rules forbid it and referees will stop them unless first punches were drawn and you get all that disciplinary bullshit afterwards.

There are a lot of players who want a fight, and both agree to it (the well you can't just deny as you would feel intimidated and lose the psychological edge), and fans just love it - everyone is heated for a fight but the refs. So instead of fair fights 1on1 European hockey is plagued with hidden elbows and hooks and other unfair bullshit.

actually fighting in hockey is the reason its the most pure sport in the game. it allows athletes to self-police the game. lal the chippy bullshit that happens which refs dont see is dealt with, if youre a little chump who wants to throw a cheap elbow or whatever when the ref isnt looking you cant do it in the NHL cause some 6'6 250 pound monster is going to knock you out.

if the NHL gets rid of fighting im going to boycott and so would the vast majority of canada because it would ruin the honor in the game. if they didnt allow fighting hockey ahs too much potential to turn in a cheap shot festival
