So I have been waiting and waiting for tvs to actually be worth it quality to money ratio only to be always disappointed more with the quality than anything else. For the last 4 years not much has really happened in the market of LCD and Plasma, even if you see all that shit on LED edgelite craptastic blacks or bs NEOPDP wannabe Pioneer Kuro. So anyways, the problem has always been that the only TV in the entire market which is worth even a $ of your money was the Kuro but was so overpriced even then it was not an option for 99.9% of people. A sad day came in 2008 when Pioneer died and so died the only TV of substance.

2009 saw the first time where other companies on paper tried to finally do what Pioneer always did and I was hopeful. There was a point where I almost bought a Panasonic because they bought up all Pioneer industry secrets and tech and I thought those techs were being realized in the new products--LAWL. Nope, panasonic instead has fucked everyone and is laughing all the way to the bank. Right now there is a surgence in a brand new phenomenon in the plasma TV known as Black level doubling. Basically all the people who bought expensive, rich dark black plasmas are seeing their blacks change to as shitty as LCD computer monitors within 200-1000hours of use. How the fuck is that happening, well it has to do with voltage changes. As the tv ages the voltage changes are supposed to aid in aging and produce better colours and contrast for a longer time. Too bad the blacks are getting raped somehow by this and at this point no company (it is starting to be noticed in Samsungs too) have any fix.

Anyways this is my vent because I found this news out today and was sad because last year I almost bought the new G15s now only to see a year later I would have regretted it. Now seeing the new tvs at CES 2010, I can't trust being a first adopter to the new generation because it is obvious there is no way I can be assured of long term quality. Oh well, another 9 months+ of waiting for me until there are some long term tests done.

Aside-
LCD is still shittier than Plasma, more expensive, has more issues and are lower quality

wtf is wrong with u?

what are u looking for from a TV? pick up a good LCD tv with good contrast ratio/response time and ur pretty much set.

the standard of TV's has increased massively over the last 4 years, are we living in the same world? i am so confused.

nowadays u can get a really nice TV on the cheap. i don't get what ur complaining about at all.

i think you need to reconsider your expectations because like, the way its going picture quality is soon going to outstrip what the human eye can actually even see so why do u care

nothing is wrong with me, LCD and PLASMA have been such a horrible step back in quality since CRT it's unbelievable. People spend absurd dollars for poor colour and uniformity and black levels on tvs that are thin and cool looking. It has taken 4 years for the largest TV companies to catch up to Kuro (even kuro wasn't perfect but it was the best) and even now they still produce TVs with tons and tons of issues that should have been fixed years ago.

I'm not a videophile, I am consumer who isn't interested in being gauged by companies who drag their feet and make up absurd claims, sucks having to wait so long and 3d is not worth buying into right now lol
