I would always go with intel + nvidia (especially if money is not that big of an issue)

I think nowadays Intel is better, but both ATI and nVidia still make good cards.

I think Intel has the edge on AMD currently, but between ATI and Nvidia I don't know if one is significantly better than the other.

INTEL> AMD ATI > NIVIDIA SIMPLE CHOICE

How you want it, bars or bullets?

Depends on what your looking for, typically INTEL is going to be your more expensive choice, but I've heard they perform better. Me personally, AMD offers some cheap Quad Cores (Theyre really tri-core's but somehow still considered quads.. dont know about that one..) and thats usually what I go with. Check out some of the Phenom Processors that AMD offers, more than likely you'll be able to do about anything on that computer if you have a decent vid card, and a decent amount of ram with it.

As far as Video Cards go, I think nividia is the way to go. They have alot of different choices, and offer pretty good prices on their stuff. Typically I never go all out on a video card, because like 3 months from now it will be half that price, I usually spend anywhere from $100-$150 bucks for one, and have no problems. As far as which are better than others, Every computer part has 2 sides, some might be better in 1 aspect, but lack in another. Just depends what flavor you want.

Ram- Really, ram can go a few ways, GeForce offers Ram (Either geforce or nivida cant remember, same thing..) Its what I was using I think it was like $120 for 4 gigs. which isnt to bad, also Ballistix offers good ram, and theres another name out there that I cant really remember.

However as far as brands of computers go, I guess what you really wanna look for if your not very technically inclined when it comes to computers is one with the best warranty/ customer service.
My personal opinion save yourself money, and get twice the quality for about half the price and just build one on your own.

If you dont know how I could help you over vent or some shit if you ever decide to, and dont think and cant be done, Ive helped one of my CS friends build one and he didnt even know the difference between ram, and a damn harddrive.

Well depends on how much money u want to spent
If money is no issue at all

Graphic card

Nvidia GTX 295 ~ 420 €
or 2x ATI 4890 in Crossfire mode (4890CF). ~ 420€

In general u can say that both Nvidia and ATI have very good grapic card products nowadays.

following image contains
current speed of all availible gaming graphic cards in %
10 current games were tested on the same system with different grapic cards.

CF = Crossfire = 2 identical cards in 1 mainboard connected like SLI
The GTS 250 in this test is a 1GB version
The GTS 250 512mb is basically is a 9800GTX+

Dont buy ATI X2 cards since they have major driver issues as soon as your fps goes below 30 fps in a game. They are aware of the problem for months now but havent fixed it so far

The Geforce 260GTX 216 and the ATI Radeon 4870 are both cheap and good mid "stakes" cards

Here is a List of teh speed of current CPUs available tested on 10 different games using the same graphic card

The Phenom2 and PhenomX are AMD
the Core ons are Intel

Phenom2 X4 3,2GHZ has very good Speed Value for only ~ 200€
While the Core 2 Q9450 who isnt significantly faster costs ~ 250€

Prices are for Germany only
They may differ a lot in other countries
