So I havent had a roll on stars in awhile after moving to FTP for rakeback. My g/f has been steady grinding some cash she traded in from play money, and decided that I too would like to goof around stress free for little while with a challenge I made myself. Back when I used to withdraw money instead of depositing, I would always play with 1 buyin at a time. Meaning even though I had the bank account to roll myself for NL100 or so, I would instead just deposit $200 and play with that at an NL200 game. Something about the pressure of having it all on the table kept me in line. I figured it would be no different with $200 or $2, so I had my g/f ship me $2 for a new stars roll. Since I play LAG, I decided that I dont really need 100BB's to play effectively, even at NL2. In fact especially at NL2. You can get away with so much murder there as fish are typically folding or calling regardless of your bet size. I can literally bet .10 into a 90 cent pot and they will fold if they have nothing. So off I went, playing somewhere around 44/35/5 game, trying to stick and move, build my stack, wield it, then move up again.

Results thus far:

Haaaaaaaaaahhh!! Pretty fun actually. I love little challenges. Naturally playing this way I got gayed by some nit AKs vs his AQs, which is gonna happen on occasion. Regardless, I still have a few bucks left so on to round two!

tbh this all sounds pretty much like: mega FAIL

searched a bit your previous blogposts and u said that u

  could never get past NL50.

but now u say u are being rolled for NL100 but play Nl200 with 1 BI sometimes ?

and finally atm u are playing Nl 2 shortstacked saying u do it for the challenge ?

WTF

seems like u fail at poker and just degen around a bit while living in a dream world ?

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)Last edit: 07/06/2009 09:52

also you need MORE bb to play MORE lag

the deeper the effective stacks the more lag you can play, if you are shortstacking you should really be playing tight as fuck and stealing in good spots only...

Yea I'm pretty much in full degen mode at the moment, save for the fact that im not blowing wads of money. It's all a simple lack of discipline. I used to throw down a couple hundy, grind up like 4 buyins, then cash the whole thing out and do it again the next week. Thought I had a little system goin. Then I signed up for stoxpoker and started trying to play the way im "supposed to", and have been a loser ever since. I would roll myself for NL25 or NL50, and having so many buyins I would be like "well fuck I might be behind here...ALL IN!". I would carelessly toss stacks left and right feeling I have room to get it back with my awesome 20 buyins. I cant seem to stay focused unless Im really nervous. It's like I play better with scared money, because I dont sacrifice EV, I just stop myself from being stupid. Of course this only works for me when I have cooler free sessions. But honestly, running KK into AA and runner runner flushes on the flop and shit really isnt all THAT common, so thats why I take my chances of playing the best I can without getting sucked out on.

As far as playing effective stacks, 50BB's is basically like playing standard short stacked with a little bit of extra edge given to bluffing. You have enough BB's to dance around a little more than just shoving so frequently, but either way donks and smart players alike cant afford to play back that much knowing there is a good chance they could end up being priced into to shoving while being way behind. Except now instead of losing 20 BB's they lose 50-70, which is much worse.

obv I don't care how you enjoy yourself, tho I definitely think you should place your poker-money in the "entertainment" category of whatever sort of self-budgeting/self-regulation you do. losing money at poker isn't degenerate, its being broke in real life and still blowing money at poker that makes someone a degen.

just some unsolicited advice..
gl and have fun bro :D
