youre getting a gun to defend against people with guns, youre just adding to the fire, youre not 50cent bro

theres already gunfire anyway, and i'm a good guy. I'm minding my own business. So instead of it being bad guy kills good guy, it will be good guy shoots bad guy and is still alive.

I'm not just going to puss out and let someone kill me. wtf did i do to them? not a damn thing. I'm just trying to mind my own business. the last thing i need is for some shoot out to take place and they take refuge in my house and take my family hostage, or something along those lines.

Owning a gun doesn't make you safer, it actually puts you at greater risk. This is the same reason that Canadian boarder guards aren't armed. Here is a simple explanation for you.

1. You use your gun like a hero trying to defend yourself/family/friends and end up getting killed or worse getting everyone killed in retribution for your actions.
2. A simple break in gets complicated by the fact that you draw a gun on the perpetrator who then panics and shoots you dead. Your pulling the gun causes you to be shot in a situation that would have otherwise involved only the threat of gun violence.
3. You let your emotions get to you and you use your gun to settle the issue in a rowdy argument with friends or out on the street. Gun violence not thought out or intended, which by the way can happen to anyone especially if they are intoxicated.
4. You get mugged as you are getting into your car or while you are walking on the street. The gun falls out of you and lands on the ground. Criminal picks it up, panics, and shoots you dead.
5. You get mugged and they steal the gun and shoot you with it just for carrying it.

As for this "I have the right to protect myself" bullshit, news flash people don't generally just randomly kill people. Usually something has been done to increase tensions which brings about the violent events. Let the police do the police work and you'll be a lot safer. If you actually think carrying armament reduces your risk of being involved in an act of serious violence then you sir are quite frankly an idiot. Owning a gun is not stupid because you're a bad person or because I don't like guns. It's stupid because the mere presence of dangerous weapon predicates its use. Remember that what you carry to defend yourself can easily be turned against you, furthermore drawing your weapon to defend yourself greatly increases the likelihood that a shoot-out will occur.

btw benjamin is spot on in that guns that are bought to "protect" yourself and your family and your shit from "bad people" usually ends up hurting someone in the family/some other innocent fuck or some other form of misuse

I'd find you a citation on study for the above claim, but I'm way too fucking lazy. Buy your gun, dont feel like you have to justify it to anyone. Benjamin, valid argument, heres my response
#1. Thats true, but thats the risk. There aren't any rebuys in life, so i'm going to have to make sure i don't lose.
#2. "A simple break in". Anyone breaks into my house i have the right to shoot them. I won't be shot. I know my house better than them, i know where they are, they don't know where i am etc etc. Advantage clay.
#3. This argument is where i believe you never touching/seeing a gun ever before comes into play. You have to be a responsible gun owner. I'm not stupid, i'm not going to take my gun with me when i go get hammered. My emotions have never gotten out of control. I'm a closer for my college baseball team, i come into situations where there is tense pressure every game and get out of a jam. This has been proven that athletes that face pressure will not lose control of their emotions as easily as a normal non-athlete. Its all about gun safety and responsibility, which i'm obv a law-abiding citizen so i'm not going to do anything stupid/illegal. I am also going to have to take a mental stability test when i get my Concealed Handgun License.
#4. That situation will never happen. I'm not going to carry a gun where it can just fall out of wherever i keep it. It's called a concealed handgun license for a reason. It will be tucked under my jeans and covered by my shirt. so if it slipped out, it would go down my leg. If it were to fumble out of my hand while trying to grab it, and he picked it up, then ok he's got both guns, why would he shoot me? he knows he's in charge now, he gets my car and my cell phone.
