Wikipedia propaganda machine

your definition of fiscal cliff is wrong and wikipedia's is right. the term was used to refer to the combination of spending cuts and tax increases that would take place at the start of the year. So I really don't see the problem here.

Indeed, the "fiscal cliff" was simply demagoguery that referred to the "consequences of sequestration" and it's impact on the US economy.

As far as a "sharp decline in the budget deficit" goes, that is a bit of a misnomer, considering there has actually been no budget in the US for many years now. And claiming a sharp reduction in projected deficit is to be equated with fiscal disaster is again, demagoguery from the left.

So I have to agree with OP that propaganda quite accurately describes that post in Wikipedia.

Well they're saying that fiscal cliff was a decline in the budget deficit, and that the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 is an increase in spending that offsets the decline in the deficit.

OP's definition of fiscal cliff is indeed wrong and deserved to be reversed. Your definition of the fiscall cliff is the same dramatic theatrical fox news style "zomg we're going over a CLIFF YALL, A CLIFF! THINK ABOUT IT!" of pure hogwash.

Calm down lol. I'm just saying that you may be misinterpreting what they mean. I didn't read the whole article, just what you posted, but they don't necessarily seem to be implying that there is any problem, they're just saying that an increase in spending offsets a decline in the budget deficit.

i think it would be cool to have the option to see timestamps or previous definitions or entries on a topic, as OP suggested. "facts" change with time, and history is re-written as cultures change and new information comes to light, or information is lost, etc. It would be a great reference to see how information evolves.

i think wikipedia is amazing. i think OP has a point - but i would hesitate to call wikipedia as a whole a propaganda machine...i think there can definitely be slant in articles, but i think that the bias that does emerge in the articles will also be a reflection of the general consensus of the population, whether completely right or wrong.

fraud exists everywhere. malfeasance, everywhere. deception, advertising, propaganda, everywhere. welcome to the 21st century.

U do realize the fiscal cliff article has a multi paragraph section on the etymology of the term?

At worst this is an inaccuracy. This opening sentence is as standard as it can be, newscast all over the globe refer to the fiscal cliff that way and everybody knows that wikipedia is just a collection of references, good or bad.
