I think you have potential.

Every stake you go up, there are slightly less fish and the regs are slightly better. There are bad regs all the way to mid-stakes(and SS'ers)

playing well is the best playstyle in poker, not orthadox or unorthadox, whatever that means.

Interesting theory on lifting heavy shit. Completely wrong from an overall health and fitness standpoint, but interesting theory.

I think he is talking to Cooperstown83 about weight lifting.

Cooperstown83   United States. Jan 09 2013 18:08. Posts 73

I never said weightlifting was bad, but making blanket statements about how "lifting heavy things" is far superior to cardio because that's where the fat people are laughable. Both have their own benefits and I would say an Ironman or a sub 3 hour marathon is significantly more difficult then lifting heavy weights. Also generally speaking power heavy lifting decreases flexibility making the added "strength" quite useless(speaking in terms of body builders, worlds strongest man etc.). Obviously there are right and wrong ways to do anything and lifting weights while maintaining flexibility is a good thing, but making blanket statements about how cardio is for fat people is as previously stated laughable.

iron man and marathoning are really bad for the adrenals and on the joints. everything has drawbacks and downsides.

i think for peak performance a combination of some cardio (between 20-30 minutes), high intensity non aerobic activities (sprinting, burpees, kettlebell workouts), leg workouts (squats, lunges, leg press) and a few other exercises like deadlifts are the best. these are the workouts that either increase metabolism, increase bloodflow, release testosterone and improve performance. think other stuff has less gains

How old are you GoTuNK?

I don't know if it's relevant and I like the heart but I read bits of this blog and am thinking a little bit tranquilo toro.

And I don't mean to offend b/c I was just like this at a younger age but as I get older and (hopefully) wiser and socialize with older and wiser ppl I disagree with a lot of your points.

Not everyone wants to have a 2500 total. In a way I agree with your point about treadmills and classes b/c the fat ppl are probably burning like 500 calories on the treadmill 3x a week and then going home and eating 2k calorie dinners but that doesn't mean fat ppl shouldn't hit the treadmill or classes.

I guess my point is I don't agree with the premise of this blog ("Live like everybody else and you will suck like everybody else". I don't know. Maybe most people suck but you can set up stuff in a way that far and away most people don't suck. I would say most people are pretty amazing or at least you can set your life up in a way that a far outnumbering majority of people you deal with day to day are the opposite of suck. I don't like the attitudes that if you don't know how to squat or beat poker then you are a sheep that sucks. I've seen the attitude in the powerlifting and poker community for years upon years and albeit this being rambly I don't care b/c I felt my position (which is wide open to refutations/comments/criticisms) is important to communicate.

Well, yeah its not that I actually think that all (or most people) suck. It has more to do with most people saying "I wish X or Y", but they really dont work hard or smart enough to get there. I think that is fine, for example, I'm fine with being bad at lots of stuff (like swiming or tennis, god I'm a terrible swimmer), but on the things you want to excell at, you must push hard. I am sure any sucessful high stakes player here put in hours and hours of grind, study and more grind and study to get where they are at.
On the training thing, there are 2 things: training for overall wellbeing and training for getting elite at something.
I belong to the second group; I want to squat+bench+deadlift 725kg clean (and will see after where I head) at 83kg bodyweight. Trough breakup with gf, hangovers, exam period, or others commitments I never miss the gym. Thats how people break lifting records.

On the second thing, I do think LOW STEADY cardio is hugely inefective and I dont really feel like getting into it, but basically the best you can get of doing cardio only is getting skinny, and why on earth would you want that? Just like raising pfr strong hands is the basics of poker, high intensity excercise is how you get lean, develop muscle and feel awesome. It can be lifting barbells, sprinting, what you want; rope skipping, mma, interval running they are all good.

My problem is with the attitude in general you see at gyms where people spend the entire day over the couch, then head to the gym (after posting on facebook) and basically do more low effort stuff; treadmill, curls, machines trying to find the most "efficient" program. How about you put in some hard work? how about you focus on what you are doing and put some effort?

Edit: Ofc I don't think the worthiness of a person depends on how much they can lift or how much money they can make playing poker online. However, the general premise is that if you want to EXCEL (rise above others) on both endeavors you must do things differently and work harders . I'm 22 btw.

Fair enough, it's all a matter of what you want to be good at. I used to lift heavy for baseball, now I'd prefer to stay on the leaner side of things so I do a lot more cardio for tri's and lift a couple times a week as well. New years brings out a whole new crowd of worthless, trying to get a treadmill at the gym lately is terrible. My personal favorite are the worthless layabouts who put there shit on a treadmill then proceed to stand next to it while talking to their friend for 10 minutes. At this point they realize I should do something and hop on for a solid walking pace of 2mph for 30 minutes. I just don't understand that mentality either so I do have to agree with your premise as you stated it in your response.

On the training point:

I had the exact same mindset as you and agree that if you want to look like a barbarian rockstar you have to do (EXTREMELY) high intensity stuff. Lift heavy ass weights in the complex movements many times a week. One thing that (invincible) young people don't consider is that things like inflammation, heart health, energy, etc. start to be more valuable and tbh training takes a back seat to a lot of other responsibilities. I don't want to really spend a lot of time on this b/c we basically agree I am just adding the caveat that most people are old and not powerlifters and you are young and striving to be an elite powerlifter.

Anyways, before I get rambly again I'll just say I thought your post was cool beans and I wish you the best of luck continually improving on that total. I actually get it b/c I have used powerlifting as a drug at times in my life but I have also seen first hand and read about the effects of severe overuse and imo it can get just as bad as any drug out there (especially when mixed with speed, adrenaline, test, hgh, etc. abuse). At the same time I agree with you that ideally everyone gets on a lifting program and the feeling of achievement, the accumulation of knowledge, the relationship with the iron and the natural Testosterone, dopamine high is pretty bangin.

Cheers!
