Hey there,

My friend asked me to translate his university paper's title into English and I have some difficulties. Does the following make any sense?

For a fixed drawing, do a project of an indicated treatment instrumentation's technological process.

Any kind of help appreciated.

To clear things out:

1. A drawing is given.
2. Some treatment instrumentation is given.
3. This instrumentation has a technological process.
4. We need to do a project of this process.

Seems wrong to me. Maybe add some extra words in between.

kapol what is the thrust of the sentence. I'll give you the right grammar, I just don't know what is trying to be said from that.

How about:
For a fixed drawing, do a project of a technological process of an indicated treatment instrumentation.

uhhhhhh...

There is some given equipment that does treatment (like thermal treatment) and this equipment (translating literally from Polish - instrumentation; that's the correct word in this case) has some kind of a technological process (I have no clue what it might be, but it doesn't matter). We need to make a project of this process. We are also given a technical drawing on which we base our project.

I would then say this:

Given the provided technical drawing of the instrumentation produce a project process of the indicated treatment.

You could also say:

Given the provided technical drawing of the instrumentation produce a technical layout of the indicated treatment

Are you sure the translation is instrumentation? Because instrumentation can be a verb in English which is why the sentence sounds funny.

Instrumentation is 100% a noun here. I think your ideas are wrong, because you don't want to do a project of the treatment itself. The title says specifically that you are given an instrumentation which carries out treatment. It says you want to do a project of a technological process (these two words cannot be separated). That's it. It doesn't specify what the project is about, just that's is a technological one (not technical).

Maybe:

Given the provided technical drawing, produce a project of a technological process for a given treatment instrumentation.

If you google treatment instrumentation, you get some water treatment instrumentation engineer job ads, so I guess this expression is correct.

1. A drawing is given.
2. Some treatment instrumentation is given.
3. This instrumentation has a technological process.
4. We need to do a project of this process.

Hmm how about:

Presented with the given technical drawing of the instrumentation and the accompanying specified treatment process provide a technological project that details them.

What do you mean by project though? This might be where the confusion lies.

OK, I called this friend of mine a he gave me some info on this and it looks like he had confused me earlier.

1. A drawing is given.
2. He needs to do a project (the project is a drawing) of a technological process that is based on the given drawing.
3. He also has to do a drawing of an instrumentation carrying out treatment, one that fits best into this process.

Sorry for all the confusion, rememp. I hope we can get this done somehow.

No problem! Okay:

So now I'm understanding this is an exercise in innovation and that we are provided with a technological process or treatment and asked to provide a drawing of the instrumentation that can carry out the process best. The project that you are describing is in project management or scientific terms generally called a process flow diagram.

If I am right... then this is the way to phrase it:

Prepare a project (process flow diagram) that is based on the technological process drawing provided to you. Include in your project (process flow diagram) the instrumentation and the process it must take to carry out the treatment.

If not we'll try again!

Drawing of a Technological Process and the Instrumentation Required

Or

Technical Drawings of a Process and the Instruments Required

what field is this in? why the phrase "technological process", this is pretty meaningless in english because it is literally saying, "a process which requires the use of technology" which is extremely vague and gives no indication of the subject matter.

"Instrumentation" is also very vague. To translate it all into plain english:

"Drawing of a process which requires the use of technology and the instruments needed to carry it out"

Why can't we include a word referencing the specific field that this paper pertains to in the title?

Many thanks for all the help, guys. We decided to go with:

Prepare a project based on a technical drawing. Include in your project the instrumentation and the process it must take to carry out the treatment.

My friend said it sounds good enough.

I think the original is the best way. Clear and concise.

I think the "indicated treatment instrumentation" is confusing people. But imagine the sentence says "For a fixed drawing, do a project of an item's technological process" and then it makes perfect sense and doesn't need correcting. The 3-word replacement of "item" is just a quick explanation of what item he is talking about. So yeah, perfect as is imo.
