October by gororokgororok, October 30

Ok, so october was a horrible month. Never had so many suckouts and coolers in my life. It started ok the first days, not great but ok. Then the doomswitch was turned on and I it sure was a hell to play. It has continued for the whole month. I can whine some more but whatever. I'll post a graph to begin with.

Yesterday things seem to turn around, but I just had a small session and things were pretty bad again. So I didn't achieve my goal for 30 bi's this month, I hope things will change soon. I so so wanna go to nl200, but I need to win another 2.5k since I cashed out a lot. (roll now is 2.5k)

Some examples of how bad I ran. I don't even wanna go into the 4/1 fav and coinflip ones.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/545746

Anyways I hope things will be better in november and move up to nl200. I think normal run of 2 weeks should be enough to reach this. C'mon Lee's replacer give me 2 weeks!
I really want to say this to all the NL50 guys, MOVE UP TO NL100, free money everywhere.

Where's JTP? by k2o4, October 30

Where are you joe? Jmac wants to know!

lolz

Things aren't going so great with Palin either:

In his appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live" tonight, John McCain acknowledged his camp's recent criticism of running mate Sarah Palin after days of stressing that reports of tension were overblown and mistaken.

He ended that part of the discussion by emphasizing that he had clamped down on the complaints and backbiting:

MCCAIN: Could I just mention one thing before we -- Sarah Palin?

We're one team, we're together. You're going to have, with all the advisors and counselors and all that, there's always a little friction within different camps and all that.

KING: But your camp has been criticizing her.

MCCAIN: Oh, yes. But you know.

KING: You let that go?

MCCAIN: It's just nonsense. It's nonsense. And we've put out -- you know, I've said to everybody, look, if anybody has a complaint, take it to me or Sarah. But, our relationship and our teamwork couldn't be -- I couldn't be happier.

Fox news is even calling McCain out on his lack of convictions:

And in case you missed it last night, here's the Obama half hour special:

milestone? by rockman255, October 30

im mainly posting because im proud of having hit 30k vpp in 1 month. i played about 85% nl50 and 15% nl100 so i feel that this is blogworthy. i hope to keep up that sort of a grinding pace and hopefully that is an indication that i have potential to be a grinder.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/cbf19a7d2be3dec58b5457601e695704.jpg

as for the overall month results, nl50 went okay and nl100 downright raped me. i guess i pray to the gods that next month i can get a handle of nl100 but i really dont see that happening anytime soon. as my graph indicates ive had very little results in the past few weeks.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/1485357fa9e8a9a86987874a260f061b.jpg

anyway, i should be spot on my goal of hitting supernova by "mid november to early december" as i quoted in an earlier blog. as for getting comfortable with nl100, i dont fucking know. i'll be happy if i can just sustain myself in nl100 for the time being and earn some vpps while im at it.

always trying to improve.. probably asking you guys too many damn questions, right?

cheers from rocko, gl at the tables.

Halloween...what to be? by JoeDeertay, October 29

So Halloween is friday and I still don't know what I want to be, but so far I've narrowed it down to 2 possibilities:

1) Buy a full Phillies uni and be Cole Hamels (since people say I look like him and they obv just PWNED the Rays in the Fall Classic XD), or

2) Go buy a "deerwatcher" hat, a pipe, and a magnifying glass and get a good old Sherlock Holmes costume going. I think it'd be fun to annoy the shit out of people by going up and "inspecting" them at whatever party/parties I end up going to XD.

I can't decide which one I should do, although I might just do both and go out on friday and saturday night anyway, especially if they are both cheap. I'm sure there won't be a shortage of parties in downtown State College this weekend =].

Anyway, I'm open to suggestions because I need to be something! Let's get those brains churnin' LP!

Thanks and GL
-Joe

Lazy day. Shoulda did something more. by EXCELED, October 29

Today was just one of those days where you feel like a lazy bag of shit and dont want to do hardly anything. I managed to play around 500 hands and made around 25 bb Not bad. I just started on Absolute Poker (I know you guys can flame the site all you want) because I managed to get rakeback which I dont have on the other sites, except FTP which I will be moving too sometime next week. AP is alright, the games are pretty good but there is not a lot of volume on the site which means I find Im playing a lot of the same people. Its going alright so far so we will see. I plan on making around $100 more before I do the switch.

The only other thing I did today was play a bit of the new Fable game. Its pretty sick so far but I feel like theres so much more I can do in the game besides the main quests. Next time I play Im going to walk the world for a bit and do a lot of the side quest. I just got to the part where you are about to go to Lucians island with that Monk monster of a girl lol. So far so good.

Tomorrow I have to work... ugh. I honestly have the worst fucking shift these last couple weeks. Hopefully I can get a weekend off soon and go out and just get shittered with the boys.

Hope everyones having a pretty good and productive day lol.

EXCELED.

For k2o4!! by capaneo, October 29

Well since he did me a favour and posted about the 2nd debate. And also since I know he will really admire this. I copied a page from an article I saw in Nature about the election! I dont know if this is the first time Nature ever wrote about a presidential election or no. But I have to say at least I belive this is very significant. But I have to say this is basically as much credit as ANY person can get.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/2836f200a2f19eb9e245e75b7eefbf19.jpg

PS1: I dont know why this is not getting the credit it deserves in the media?

PS2: I dont know if you guys know this or (hopefully you all know!) Nature is THE most admired and credited academic journal out there. Its always rated higher than other journals as far as I know.
Stuff from discovering X-Ray to Nuclear Fission from Ozone Hole to the The structure of DNA. ALL these landmark topics have been published in this magezine first! So its not just a big deal to know what this magezine thing. ITS A HUGE DEAL. For some people who like and admire sceience. This only should be enough to make your mind about who to vote for.

There is no doom switch!!! by eightfourO, October 29

Hello Clayton,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry to hear your disappointment. As an
avid player myself, I know how frustrating it can be to suffer bad beats.

The truth of the matter is there is no such thing as a 'Doom Switch'. We
have no interest in favouring one player over another. Our shuffle is
completely random and bad beats simply happen on their own. If there were
no more bad beats, people would stop chasing bad draws. If that happens,
then good players won't be able to win anymore.

The computerized methods we use to shuffle the deck are more than
sufficient to ensure complete randomization of the cards, and
complete unpredictability of the cards to come. You can see the
description of these methods at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html

In addition, we track all hands dealt daily to see if there is any
statistically significant variance.

In fact, we gave the source code to two independent auditors who
reviewed our shuffle algorithm and found it sound and random. You may
read
the analyses of these auditors at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/rng_audit.html

We have dealt over 21,000,000,000 hands, and have freely given out real
money hand histories any time somebody has requested them. Not once has
anybody found any indication that our shuffle is not 100% random, and many
who have undertaken such studies have posted their findings to the
Internet. You may find just two of them here:

http://tinyurl.com/32ajma
http://tinyurl.com/22wu99w

If this doesn't convince you, you can do your own statistical analysis of
your hands. There are a few programs like PokerOffice and PokerTracker
that allow you to import your hand histories, and offer statistical
analysis, which I am sure will satisfy your concerns.

Good luck to you, and thank you for choosing PokerStars.

Top Gear Polar Adventure. by SfydjkLm, October 29

I'm sure most of you have seen this, Top Gear isnt the most watched car show in the world for nothing, but I'm think it is worth posting for those who might've missed it. And for those who have seen it i'll add a few tidbits which might be at least a little bit informative! The Polar Challenge is an actual ski established in 2004 and taking place mid-April and mid-May each year, taking teams approximately 4 weeks to complete, including the training time. I am not sure how closely top gear followed the route, but here it is(the starting and finish locations are the same):

The route

http://www.venture-challenge.com/uplo...eral/current_challenges/arcticmap.jpg

The average yearly temperature at the starting point, Resolute, Nunavut, Canada is −16.4 °C (2.5 °F). The temperatures at the final point of the journey may reach as far as -52°C in winter. The whole journey took Clarkson and May from 25th of April till 2nd of May.

The Car

http://www.topgear.com/content/timeto...her/top-gears-polar-hilux/06/main.jpg

3 Liter Diesel 4 cylinder inline engine.
175 KMPH Maximum Speed
0-100 in 11.9 seconds
25MPG

The truck starts at 17899 US dollars for the basic model, the top-end model listed here starts at over 59 grand.

Hilux is sold in Europe, Asia and Oceania, it is substituted by Toyota Tacoma in the North American market. It is however, not just a simple name change- Tacoma is a very different car under the bonnet. I'm sure it is just as durable however.

Special modifications for the race:

# The standard wheels and tyres were replaced with bespoke Arctic Trucks wheels and 38" studded snow tyres. The tyres were able to run at pressures as low as 3psi for better flotation over snow. The tyres are called Arctic Trucks AT405.

# The wheel arches were raised and extended to protect the larger tyres

# The standard 3.0-litre D-4D engine was modified to cope with the very low temperatures. Heaters were added to increase fuel and coolant temperature, a large heavy-duty battery was fitted and the air intake was modified.

# A 90 litre auxiliary fuel tank was fitted

# The gearing ratio was lowered to 4.88

Why? Reducing gear ratio allows car to maintain slower speed, and increases torque- force basically sent to drivetrain, both vital factors to overcome offroad conditions.

# Two Winches that could be fitted either to the front or rear of each of the vehicles were carried, in case they got stuck in the snow

Work began on the vehicles in December 2006, at Resolute, Canada, from where the expedition would begin. Over 240 man-hours of labour was spent completely refitting the two vehicles in preparation for the journey. Testing of the vehicles began in February 2007, after which some further modifications were made to the vehicles — the suspension was altered and the original 29" tyres were replaced with 38" ones

Why they chose Toyota Hilux:
+ Show Spoiler +

The opposition

http://www.shackletoncentenary.org/Top%20Gear%20Polar%20Special.jpg

Opposite the car was Richard Hammond and Matty McNair, on a dogsled.

Who's Matty McNair?

+ Show Spoiler +

How fast are the dogs? Well, again, wiki describes it rather perfectly:

Racing sled dogs will travel up to an average twenty miles per hour (32.2 km/h) over distances up to 25 miles (40 km). Over longer distances, average traveling speed declines to 10 to 14 miles per hour (16 to 22 km/h). In poor trail conditions, sleddogs can still usually average 6 or 7 miles per hour (10 or 11 km/h). Sled dogs have been known to travel over 90 miles in a 24 hour period while pulling 85 pounds each.

Finally, the race itself!(click me, a youtube playlist)

Enjoy!

Good by Ipoker by PplusAD, October 29

-170$ today in 400 hands

biggest losing hands

KK vs QQ preflop
JJ flopped Set vs flopped flush
23s riverd 2nd nut straigt vs rivered FH

Okay so i will leave ipoker for a while and withdraw all money but 120$ and start from NL 10 at another site again
I am totally fed up with Poker lately.

I just cant win a fucking hand on Ipoker for my Life.

95% of the money i lose is

I get it in being 81-18 favourite and still lose like 75% + of this hands
This has happend far too often at Ipoker lately that i can still play the site without going mentally ...

I dont care if this happens like 3 times in 1K hands session
I dont care if it happens like 10 times in a downswing of liek 3-4 sessions

But it just happens all the time every session for over 20K hands now and i just cant stand it anymore

goodbye i mean
