| | Dont you hate it when... by 100Large, November 27
Dont you hate it when you have 6-7 nice winning sessions, then you have two HUGE losing sessions, and you piss away all that hard work ?
That type of shit scars the soul.
But on the plus side, i got myself a new sugar mami, and shes taking me shopping this saturday to get a new 22" Samsung wide screen and some clothes. Maybe i can squeeze a PS3 out of her too LOL!
Lesson learned, fuck a girl good, make her cum. And she will never say no to you.

| | goldstar! by mknybtlr, November 27
With three days to spare in November I got gold star! w00t!
And I broke $1000 at NL25, now rolled for NL50! Time to donk it all away I guess. Always nervous at moving up... still don't really think I have the basics of this game down.
And now I have to earn just 2000 fpp in Dec to remain gold, that's cool. Supernova Elite is still looking a bit distant thought : 990k to go this year. Maybe if I email stars to let them know how close I am they'll let me have it anyway.
And what do I get for this? Well the gold star looks cool. The fpp shop is closed. I can play vs tougher opponents in fpp tourneys. Meh.
Pokertracker shows my worst hands to be: K9s, 87s, 55, 54s, A4s, QTs, K6s, A7s, KTs... so many suited hands. Looks like I have some leaks to fix.
And yet I can't draw conclusions from misplay of individual hands here, I need to categorise them together somehow and work out what mistakes I'm making for similar cards.
What I really need is a tool that clusters together betting patterns, so I can see how many times I raised and got cold called and chickened out vs had a cbet called and chickened out vs had someone fold to a cbet, or whatever.

| | 6-max adventure by SakiSaki, November 27
Today 8-tabled 6-max on pokerstars for like the first time ever. It was a very unpleasant experience and I donated alot of money. I ran pretty awful though I think but I definitely spew preflop in alot of spots cause I am a retarded HU player. I keep thinking ppl are cold 4-betting me with air so I ship like A9 and get owned by AK every single time
I have noticed a couple of things about these games though and also come to some realisations of why 6-max anoy me so much. My first point is, most of these regs have very little clue about how to play postflop. The games are very agressive preflop with 3-betting and squeezing all over the place, which 100bbs deep pretty much means that the only streets where there is play is preflop and on the flop. By the turn you usually have half your stack in and all of a sudden you are a donkament player pushing or folding. Its soooo tilting, I try my best to keep the pot small and play some pots in position but flatting raises in the co or btn often result in a squeeze from the blinds/btn.
Its so constraining I actually feel like I am playing a donkament or on a table full of shorties. So much is about preflop/flop equity and so little is about outsmarting or outplaying your opponent.
Now I didnt game select at all pretty much cause I dont know any of the regs and this was just one session so maybe I just ended up on tables full off aggrotard regs but god do these guys remind me of me 1 year ago. Fuck you cardrunners, you have turned 6-max games into sit n gos.
Im not saying that these games arnt profitable because they definitely are. Theres still plenty of fish and most of the regs are like I said pretty clueless about postflop play. + some of them play even more retarded than me preflop and thats saying alot. Im pretty sure that playing something like 25/21 like I did this sesh is far from optimal in this day and age. Playing a controlled 18/16 TAG style and trapping squeezers alot with big hands and playing a in general smart and controlled tight style is probably going to rake in the big bucks.
One thing is for sure, stars need to add 200bb tables or I will have to move to ftp if I plan on playing more 6-max.
Oh and I have a question aswell. Why doesnt the HEM graphs have a line for won/lost in all in spots? All I can see now in my graph is total winnings and all in ev graph, but how does that tell me how bad I am running? Like, for today both hu and 6-max my all in ev is at -$800 and my total winnings is at -$4000 but could just aswell mean that I lost 800 in all in situations and that i spewed of 3200 making dumb bluffs and calldowns in non all in pots yes?
Keep it real boys and girl

| | Backed out... fuck by EXCELED, November 27
Tomorrow Im supposed to go down to London and pay the last months rent and get the keys to my new place with my room mate. Hes kinda been giving me the run around the last few days so I was starting to get kinda sketched. So Im sleeping away and I get a text message at 7am from him saying hes backing out and cant move to London with me.... FUCK.
He gives me the big schpeel about how he wont be able to afford it because he wants to get a new tooth (he got his front tooth knocked out a long time ago) plus his car insurance etc. etc. Now this is understandable but like two days ago I called him and he said gave me a load of shit saying how he wasnt blowing me off or anything and that 100% he was in for sure. (Words straight out of his mouth) Now the day before I have to go finalize this shit he backs out. What a fucking waste of time that was seriously. I dont see how you cant know what your financial situation is like when it comes to something like moving out? Either you can or you cant... he fucked me large.
What makes it worse is now Im probably going to lose the apartment and the sick deal I got on it unless I find a roomate by tomorrow. Im seriosuly fucking sick of the same shit from everyone. Everyone is all fucking talk and no action and its really pissing me off. Im probably going to end up living with some fucking randoms that I could careless about now and have to be stuck with them for atleast 8 months because of a lease. FUCK!!
Im so fucking pissed and dont have a clue what I am going to do... to make things worse I start playing pokes and instantly these two hands happen:

SICK?! Fuck I am lucky today. I really dont know what Im going to do because I have to call this fucking landlord and tell him my buddy is a flop show. FUCK SAKES. What a fucking waste of time that was FUCK!
Im going to smoke a fucking CANNON, 6 paper RICKY STYLE JOINT and then pass the fuck out because I am so pissed right now its unreal.

UPDATE

It would have been a total shit of a day and I would have been down a lot more but I crushed some fuck HU for 30BB but yea im still down on the day. I think I got run over a bit today and it didnt feel good. Today happens to be the biggest loss Ive had all month. | | NL5 blog #2 - Day 1 by Uptown, November 27
Previous Blog: http://www.liquidpoker.net/blog/viewblog.php?id=615598
-----
So immidiately after posting my previous blog, I set out to take on NL5. It was definitely a little nerve racking to see the numbers next to the chips so much higher than what I had been used to - probably look 10 minutes or so until I didn't have to double check that the ratios were correct.
Within the first 1000 hands, I had been suckered 2-3 times, plus one instance where I inexplicably went 3bet All-in on the flop with TPTK and lost out fair and square. So in the first ~90 minutes, I was down 3bi's and received the typical buttspanking that greets all players that move up in stakes. (red circles correspond to these hits)
But I felt that I had played properly sans that one shove, so I was acutally quite encouraged. The players were definitely less spewy than at NL2, and their stats usually reflected that. They usually folded rather wisely to bets that I'd perhaps want them to call, etc. Things evened out, I caught a good stretch of cards and managed to play them well, got lucky a few times too sucking out 1 or 2 hands on the river, and I had brought myself back to the positives.
But things turned sour rather quickly, as a combination in a slight decrease in focus/analysis on my part and being perhaps overly aggressive in situations I should not have been, coupled with some bad beats rushed me back to the equator. (see blue circle) Decided to take a break around here, and get something to eat. This corresponds to 3k hands, and I tend to play roughly 500 hands/hour, so I must have been 6 hours into my session for the day.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/c7997920d9c58847cdafe6dc37eeaa76.jpg
The proceeding UP, then DOWN, was a combination of luck, and more importantly for me, I could sense that i was being spewy with my betting. I felt that I was being overly aggressive on flops where my cbets and double barrels would get me nowhere. I really had to buckle down and focus on what i was doing and WHY I was doing it. As I reached another valley (green), I really sat down and geared down, increased my level of discipline and tightened up even more.
Genjix commented in my previous blog entry, that he was finding NL5 to need a higher level of tightness. As I played the last leg of my session, his words were brought back to my consciousness.
As I really focused in on this last leg, I was determined to make it back into the green, and hopefully up one BI. I really wanted to make SMART decisions, be it shoving, cbetting looking for a fold, or anything. I was able to focus on what they probably had, and how I needed to proceed to get what I wanted out of them. I still made some poor calls knowing I was beat, but I was able to minimize the damage and successfully (i think) mucked a handful of strong hands because I truly believed I was beat. The second to last hand, I caught a bad beat on the river to lose a few bucks, then felt my focus immediately wane, and quit asap.
The results were truly immediate, and I ended the day at +4BI's, according to PS's cashier (PT3 says otherwise but it's dumb so w/e). Above all, it gives me confidence going into tomorrow knowing what kind of play I need to get out of myself to be successful. I must be smart, aggressive, patient and disciplined. I have to examine the board and opponents' lines to make the correct decision for each situation.
I know now that I can beat NL5, and it's just a matter of time. I do sense however, that by the time I reach NL10, I will have to start adjusting my game to loosen up, and as people suggested in my previous blog, to reduce the number of tables and really concentrate on what is happening on each of them. I will definitely heed this advice when the time comes!
Thanks for your support guys, I apprecite it
Cheers~
----------------
some interesting notes:
I actually accidentally minraised one hand when I misclicked (meant to fold), and entered the flop with Q3o from CO. But everyone checked the flop, the turn came Q, and the river came Q, and I won about $1.50. That was rather comical , considering I literally said "OH GAWD" as I misclicked.
I looked at PT3's rake stats, and my gosh, I now know why everyone says "rake will kill you".

| | lol day by lazymej, November 27
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/lazymeJ/1165700285373.jpg
Well I just finished playing a monster 6 hour session 6 tabling. I haven't played that long of a session/day in sooo long because I've just been slacking off. Well it started good and then went to hell. The first decent part you see is the first session (I played 2). The rest of it which is an erratic spaztic cocktail was the 6 hour session and ya swings lol. I actually played pretty fucking bad and I was getting the monies in the middle like a retard so I kind of deserve the swings. I don't know why I was spewing so much today but I need to remind myself not to. Anyways, it ended happy and I went in the green. $3/hr fuck yeah. It was kinda fun though I guess.
But I don't mind much at all because I was mostly going for VPPs because I want platinum this month. After today that is going to happen easily. So ya I'll just play normally next time not like an idiot and I will reach Platinum pretty easily before month end. And I should have better results

Some regs give me hard time, but I do believe I'm better than the majority of them. I know I have a lot of room to improve though, and I really want to. All of you people that are reading my blog right now, I would love it if you looked through my hands and commented on how badly/well I played them.
I will pretty much always respond to your comments with why I played that hand in a certain way, and will keep an open mind about it. Don't take it as me being defensive please .

| | I thought I was going to have a brag post! by Night2o1, November 27
But the day turned a bit upside down.. Was still good overall though ^^
Made a whopping 6BI and $20 in rake. Super hero is me!
My nonshowdown winnings aren't anywhere near as nice as they were at NL10. I'm not sure why. I will concentrate a bit on good spots to change this up a bit (of course not at the detriment to my overall game, but as an improvement). I am wondering what the average amount people are losing/winning a hand in nonshowdown at NL25 though.. if any of you would oblige. Full ring btw.
Pretty happy with the day, and the only reason my last session was -2BI was because of a ton of suckouts omg so much fail.
(graph is in PT3 for fun)

| | Day 1 by TheView, November 27
Well to start, I'd like to say that I didn't play nearly as much as I wanted to today. However, i seemed to run well the time that I did get to play. I played all full ring, and I feel that I picked good tables to play at for the most part. A few of the tables accumulated 4 or 5 people who bought in really small while I was playing at it, so I just left those tables (people who don't use the full buy-in are kind of annoying lol (no offense)).
http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/7494/update1ez3.jpg
and here are a few hands that I have questions about:
hand 1: Villain plays 60/20. I probably should have folded this river but I felt that I induced the bluff. I felt like a better hand from this player raises the turn. The only hand I could seem to put him on by the river was 10J, maybe Q9. Although, by the river, it really does look like I have some sort of hand so a bluff from villain wouldn't make a ton of sense.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/576541
hand 2: Villain plays 13/4. After villain calls on the flop, I think his range is pretty narrow. I put him on 77+ and KQ/KJ/AK and rarely a flush. When the 7 paired on the turn i took 77 out, and since the board paired I wasn't afraid of him hitting 2 pair, so I decided to check/call because I don't think he'd call the turn with 99-QQ after a second barrel and i thought that he'd protect his hand if he had Kx (given the monotone board). The river was a blank and I planned to c/r but he's just soooo nitty. Given his weak bet-sizing I think his hand is face up and that a small c/r or a strong lead is optimal.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/576665
Overall a decent day (my friend tells me I just ran hot, which is probably true). He says 8bb/100 over a ~50k hand sample size is really good, and that anything way above that is running good. Is this true?
Thanks for reading. GL in life and poker.

| | Jim jones + Poker = AWE by ConquistadoR, November 26
I love to listen to Jim Jones while playing poker. Whenever he screams BALLIN in the background i really feel like a baller with my NL10 br.(not)
But its still awesome...
Today i kinda played my first live tourney. I have played live before, but only with friends, and we were at most 10 guys, not more.
And i must say it was really kinda fun, good experience for sure. The only annoying thing was to listen to all these crappy live idiots who thought they were good and kept talking bullshit.( they even said something like : online poker is rigged!111111 etc. and some more stupid shit which i cant even remember). Haha but I sometimes agreed with them on their idiotic theories, and said some idiotic stuff as well, just to giggle inside of me.
Other than that, well, since i didnt get that transfer to PS, i decided to play some more on FTP, and despite the rake being a killer i managed to win a lot during the last days, im sitting on ~250$ now, and im going to take some shots at 010/025 now, going to stop as soon as i hit 200$. AND FUCKIT im definately going to play a monstersession tomorrow.

| | NL5 blog #1 - Preface by Uptown, November 26
Before I set off on conquering NL5, I thought it would be best to lay out the set of rules, guidelines, and limits I would be following. This would make things concrete for me, and I would be able to reject all temptations of moving on to NL10 prematurely, or making other adverse actions.
The stipulations I set for myself are the following:
- Play the same hands the same way I did as NL2
- Choose tables with at least 4 players fully stacked at 100bbs
- Play on NL5 until I am rolled with 30bi's for NL10 ($300)
- Play on 6-8 tables, not 4.
- Drop back to NL2 if I go below 15bi's ($75)
- Insta-leave a table if it drops to 4 handed or below.
- Insta-leave a table if there is a habitual shortstacker
- Insta-leave a table if there are two or more very short stacks for any reason (because this is the same as being 4-handed)
The first one is pretty obvious. I was a winning player at NL2 with the way I played. I should continue exactly the same way until I have a large enough sample set that proves to me that I need to change things. I quote Pokey from the 2p2 forums:
"I think I've discovered the biggest mistake a player can make when moving up:
You play differently.
I'm talking about playing a different game from your usual game. Usually, people decide they have to "play more tightly," or they have to "play more aggressively," or they have to "bluff more often," or they have to "call down looser against all the floaters," ...
Here's a MUCH better strategy: when you move up, play your standard game. Change NOTHING. ...
You're a winning player -- that's why you want to move up. So when you move up, don't throw away your winning game! "
The second is pretty straightforward as well, but with a slight caveat. The reason I chose 30bi's instead of 20 or 25, is that I didn't want to fluke through NL5 and reach NL10 prematurely. My curret BR is $186, because Tenbagger shipped me more than he actually owed me in the beginning for reasons unknown to me (probably being generous / encouraging me to stick at it etc) and because I did a stars/paypal trade with Zulu. At the NL2 stage I didn't want to take advantage of my inflated BR, and instead acted as if I actually had $50 to start with. But as I move up in stakes, it's silly to not use money I already have! Thus, by setting a goal of $300, I need to make $114, amounting to roughly 23bi's at NL5. Considering I had to make 25bi's at NL2 in order to move up, it sets an equal bar for me to overcome in order to move onto the next stakes.
The rationale for playing 6-8 tables instead of 4 for me is a purely mental one. The reason I can play a ridiculously nitty game and not get tilted at the bad beats, suck outs and cheap profits with big big hands, is because I am able to play so many hands that I KNOW I'll get great hands really soon again. It allows me to play an optimal game and stick to the rules, and that's as important as anything here.
The drop down rule is there for pretty obvious reasons as well, but with a $100+ buffer, hopefully I won't have to worry about it ever!
The insta-leaving clauses are there for mental reasons as well. I'm not comfortable playing below 5-handed right now, and don't want to have to feel like I need to loosen up because of the number of players and the increased blind frequencies. I want to stick to my game, and there are plenty of other tables to do it on. The shortstacker thing again is to keep myself within my guidelines. It's annoying when you can't stack the guy properly when you flop a set or whatnot, and again I don't want to feel compelled to change my game because of such avoidable external factors.
---------
I'm sure there will be a period of nervousness as I move up, coming from the increase in numerical value I see on the screen, as well as the unfamiliar faces at NL5. But once I get past the jitters, it's still the same game and from what I understand, NL5 isn't a whole lot different from NL2 anyways. If anything, it's a great opportunity for me to make more $ faster, and to learn about what holes I have to patch up in my own game.
It's exciting to be moving up for the first time, and hopefully the excitement won't get the best of me
Cheers~ sorry for the lack of pics, I haven't played a single hand yet!

| | Back to rolled for NL400 by phexac, November 26
So my downswing seems to be over. It continued for a bit into NL200, and I dropped another 1.7k there as well before turning around. So after just over 9,000 hands at NL200, I am back to being rolled for NL400.
One things I noticed is how much easier NL200 is compared to NL400. When I first moved to NL400 a few months ago, it really did not seem like it was all that much more difficult than the level below. There is a lot more fish, and regulars tend to be weaker and more predictable. Overall, it was a good confidence-building experience, and after losing horribly for 12k hands straight, I definitely needed that.
I still haven't cleared the $2,000 milestone bonus or the $1,500 supernova bonus, so those should pad my BR further. Hope the downswing is indeed over so that I can have a strong finish to the month.
