Im winning but its ugly by EXCELED, November 26

First off what the fuck is going on in India? Terrorist? WTF? Go to CNN if you havent heard about this. http://www.cnn.com

Anyways as you guys probably know I just moved up in Limits. Im winning right now but shit its an ugly swingy ride lol. My graph literally looks like a rollercoaster but atleast its in the green. So far im up about 50BB in the new limit. I think that the swings look bigger on my graph but they really arent, it just looks like that because Im playing for more moneys now. I only have a pretty small sample right now so Im not going to bother putting up the 2.5k hands Ive played so far.

Last night I played a nice HU session vs some guy. Before this match some guy hit and run me for 12BB... pretty standard at low level HU. People love to go HU when they are almost broke win a bit then bounce. But whatever in the long run I will get the best of them.

This guy I played last night actually sat down and we had a session. HU is a lot of fun and I really enjoy it. This guy played pretty aggressive and was doing a number on me at the start. I had about 11BB left and then I found a few nice exploits on this guy and turned it around. He played so cautiously... too cautious on flush/straight draw boards. A couple of times I would raise the flop and he would usually fold the river. He also had a hard time playing me on dry boards like K74. I started to C/R him on these types of boards and he had no clue what to do and couldnt take the pressure. He wasnt really calling me down with bottom pair or middle even though sometimes that should be a call down. At the start He was running pretty sick too. I was making good calls but he was fucking me on the river. I knew I would get him eventually.

I really outplayed this guy at the end of the match but he wasnt a great player by any standards. I won all my money back and cleaned him right out. I seriously dont think there is a better feeling then making a sick comeback and cleaning a guy out. I was pretty proud of myself lol. Ive been doing pretty good in HU despite that fact that I get hit and run quite a bit. Im still up a lot in it so thats cool. Im going to start studying this game a lot more and hopefully get a lot better at it and make some serious dough!

I guess Im going to chill out for now maybe play a bit later.

NL2 Story by Uptown, November 26

It's about time I went with the norm around here and made a proper blog for a change.

----------

Introduction:

I migrated over to LP from TL.net in the beginning of November, mainly because TL.net has become pretty boring as of late and I needed more reading material. I found the blogs here to be pretty entertaining to read with all the ups and downs, laughs and cries so I actually found myself on LP more than TL for a few days.

I sent a few random pms to Tenbagger saying 'hey', and we chatted for a bit and he was saying how I should start playing poker, and I was retorting with it'd be a waste of my time, yada yada. Then came the punchline.

Tenbagger: "At least you make money while wasting time unlike Starcraft or Travian"

He had won the argument. By a large margin. And considering I was procrastinating for hours a day reading random forums online or playing dota or whatnot, I eventually decided to give this a shot and started reading Daut's beginner guide and the uNL threads on 2p2.

While I had no means to deposit on PS for a day or two, Tenbagger again came to the rescue since he had owned me money from last year for fantasy baseball when I had finished 2nd place but didnt have a stars acct for transfer, and we were both lazy and I didn't really care about the $60 or however much it was that I won as net profit. So he ships me my starting BR, and off I go~. 2 tabling nl2 baby whoooo.

This was on November 3rd. haha I remember fiddling around on the play money tables for a bit to get a feel for the interface and stuff like that.

The first 3 weeks

The first few weeks were an up and down ride. First going up like $15 in the first few days, going back down to square one, getting up to a $30 gain, going down to the negatives, like -$10, fluctuating all over.

But during that time I got my hands in, got comfortable playing up to 8 tables at once depending on how nitty I'm playing, and went back and forth between nitty and standard TAG'ish stats. Learned how to properly raise pf, c-bet basics, and eventually started to be able to pick up on what the opponent probably has, from the way he reacted to my bets and how he betted, basic stuff but stuff that was all new to me.

I've got to give a big thanks to the TL/LP people who have helped me out and gave me advice. Wouldn't have been possible without you guys, and certainly wouldn't have been nearly as enjoyable grinding away at it <3.

So I have my share of highs and lows, catching river suck outs, getting bad beats left and right, frustrated to hell by the limpers that see the flop cheap, etcetc. Hence the fluctuation in the hands I played and how I played them. I think at one point I was so ticked at the limp/callers that I was open raising 6xBB to try to get them off my back. But that's in the past.

Anyways, here's a graph from Nov 3rd to Nov 24th. Graph actually starts at +$15 or so, b/c I didnt have PT3 in the very beginning for like 4k hands.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/c072dfc29b6e24a9eda9ec37ce982cc7.jpg
Graph of first 3 weeks: 15k ish hands.

So I end up around $-15, which is abouuttttt -$5 or something like that from where I started on day one. Swingy, going nowhere fast!

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/42837c5e8beb84acea51a8d45f8909c9.jpg
Stats.

At some points I was like 25/20, while at others i was like 9/6. The numbers don't really do justice .

Oh, and I started buying in at the max $5 at nl2 on stars, eventually changed to $2, changed back to $5, then lost like $10 on Nov 24th.

Evolution?

So in dismay I decided to make a chart of hands to play from every position. I made one, then emailed it to a TL/LP friend who's been heping me out pretty actively while chatting about other things as well. It's funny that I've 'known' the guy for 2.5 years from TL, yet didn't really know him till I sent him the random "teach me pokerz sensei!" pm on TL.net. Making things even more ironic is that our taste in music is like identical, and we seem to get along really well. A real nice caveat from this whole poker nonsese I tell you! Moving on...

So I sent the guy a list of hands. He immediately shot it down, saying it was too loose. So I cut it down more! Still too loose! So he just tells me what hands to play from what position after the table does what, limp/raise/or folds to me. And I spend about an hour sorting everything out and making a chart with 6 sections:

1. vs unopened (raise)
2. vs unopened (call)
3. vs open raise (3bet)
4. vs open raise (call)
5. vs limpers (raise)
6. vs limpers (call)

And I vow never to veer off this chart ever. If I have ATo and the chart says I cant play unless I have AJo or higher, I simply fold. No matter what. So I play off 6 tables at first, looking down at the printed sheet of paper constantly, eventually going to 7, then to 8. B/c I'm playing so damn nitty, I'm able to barely handle the number of tables despite playing on a 19' monitor that we bought in like 1999. The saturation is so poor on this monitor that it hurts my eyes lol.

I really instantly saw results by beign really disciplined with the hands laid out in front of me. I had confidence in my friend's advice, and as a result I had confidence in myself and the decisions I was making. B/c i was playing so many hands, I no longer cared if I got suckered. I no longer cared if I got Aces in BB and it folded to me and I made 0.01$. I only cared if I either made a terrible decision to call or raise, or if I got outplayed / should have seen that the guy would have a better hand than me.

Surprisingly though, before this change the frequency with which I would KNOW i made a bad decision was somewhat high. But for the two days I have been using this revised approach, I have literally had ... I really think I've made either zero or one bad call over 4K hands. It's been a great feeling, it's been tremendous fun, and I feel like I'm actually going somewhere with this.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/99d2c10da9222b632a0b70f38548d36d.jpg
Pretty big change yea?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/f23d438804abbbf6814433e008011dd4.jpg
LOL so super nitty.

I'm sure I'll eventually have to loosen up, but right now I'll just be listening to my various poker senseis and heading their advice.

As a result of the last two days, I've reached the goal I set for myself before moving onto nl5, "taking $50 and turning it into $100 to be rolled with 20bi's for nl5".

So my nl2 story has come to an end (hopefully forever!), and a new chapter starts.

Wish me luck!

Postscript

I had the pleasure of playing with Raidern on one of my tables today, had a nice chat with him and it was really a lot of fun to talk with a fellow LP/TL'er while playing. I also sat with another LP'er with a french flag icon, somethingSKY, maybe AnotherSKY or something like that was his Stars ID.

Raidern seemed a little annoyed that I wouldn't tell him my TL.net ID though hahaha

------------

Hopefully you enjoyed (or at least successfullly wasted more time!) reading this entry. It was actually a lot of fun writing it just now, although now it's 5:30 am and I'm royally fucked hahaha.

The Beginning by TheView, November 26

Hi LP. I'm new here, but have heard good things about this site. I'm beginning this blog in order to track my progress through the limits (hopefully). I have deposited 500 dollars on pokerstars and plan to use a 20 buy-in rule until I reach 100NL, where I will begin using a 40 buy-in rule. The reason for this is that my poker game is probably not very good, and I feel that I need to be able to beat 25NL and 50NL thoroughly before I consider moving up (since I'm newb). I plan to play both 6-max and full ring and will definately be taking advantage of the wisdom offered here on LP. I've purchased PokerTracker 3 and plan to update daily with graphs. I used to play quite a bit of chess, and I realize that an ascension through the limits will not be easy; therefore, I plan to stay humble and open-minded about my poker abilities and welcome all contstructional criticism.

A quick description of myself:
I'm 20 years old and I'm from Alabama. I love college football and enjoy listening to music. (I plan to listen to music while I play poker so if anybody has any music suggestions, I enjoy Rock (alternative and others) and techno/trance type stuff).

Thanks for reading. GL in life and poker

First 10K hands over by SpeedyJack, November 25

I've been running pretty poorly, but also shoving too thin. My showdown winnings have been spiraling down to the negatives recently, as what I believe to be a somewhat equal result of the first sentence. I posted the only hands where I got in way behind and got some great feedback. Basic stats are at 18.8/16/4.5. I've been getting consistently smashed by aces when I go allin pf with KK-QQ and am considering calling threebets instead of shoving pf with KK-QQ, although that won't really change much except perhaps letting me get a read because they show unusual aggression. I'm feeling very comfortable at these limits and 8 tables, and I'm rolled for the next limit so I'm going to take a shot at it, from what I understand it's just as weak as .01/.02 and they play quite similarly.

Without further ado, the spiral graph of doom:

back on PS by D_Zoo, November 25

played my first session on PS in awhile. Haven't played serious poker in awhile been coaching a lot and getting some other crap sorted out in real life (like how I am going to steal Yug away from Daut). I decided to see how well I could multi table since I usually only play like 1-4 tables (I'm retarded like the chimpanzee that can't smoke and just falls off the tree branch). So I loaded up 9 FR tables at 200nl then 12. LOL! I sucked so bad at the start quickly losing 5 buy ins with some bonehead plays and what not. Got rid of the rust and turned out decent sesh but point of this is people who 24 table and have decent preflop stats are insane

i said this 'shippin monies since 1980' at the tables several times after I won all ins and never got a single laugh
has PS table humour gone downhill?

blog by collegesucks, November 25

so in my last blog i detailed how my friend donked away my 25nl roll.

well since then, i've built it back up but, again, just a couple weeks ago he joined a few $109 tourneys or sitngoes or sth for shits and giggles and found out that he couldn't unregister? wtf? and then he proceeded to try to make it back by shortstacking 50nl.. lol well that failed miserably.

anyways, this week i was left with around 40 dollars in my account. i took up the most aggressive BR management ever and played two tables of 10NL, gradually increasing tables, and then switched over to 25NL when i had ~15 buyins, four tabling. so after months of wasting SO much time, i guess i'm really going to give this online poker thing another shot. this graph doesn't have all of my hands, but i should be playing 50NL in a day or two with 20 buyings if i continue to run good.

^im running at 24/19 cuz i sometimes limp in good spots and cheaply draw to the nuts. i also flat/3bet in position vs. regulars a little more than i should, but it seems to work.

I'm seriously considering looking for a coach once i hit 100nl. running good is one thing, controlling my game is another, and the more i play, the more i realize how direly i need to improve if i want to continue moving up. pm me if you are interested and we can start talking about this.

i've been at microstakes forever, not just because i don't know what's going on, but more because i have no discipline basically. plus, i pretty much never put in hands like this. usually, i only play like 2k hands a week if im up to it (and usually i'm not). BUT if anyone playing microstakes are unsure about some abc stuff, feel free to pm me whenever. i'm like always on lp and i'm tired of browsing through the same posts over and over again!

Monkey Waiters? by k2o4, November 25

Holy shit this is so fucking cool, I wanna go!

Restaurants are always hit hard during economic downturns, but one restaurant in Japan has a novel approach to cutting costs: replace the wait staff with monkeys. The monkeys only work two hours a day, but bring in tourists from around the globe. They've even been deemed sanitary, so long as they wear their miniature uniforms.

Good day by DustySwedeDude, November 25

Won a bi, quit cause I like to feel how it is to have a winning day. Went shopping for food. Fell on my ass on my way home. American exchange student with funny name asked me if I was ok, I said it was cool and made a joke. She agreed to have a cup of tea with me. We talked for like an hour or so (with tea, inside) and then I got her number. Ship it. Dunno, she might be religious or something. Whatever, it was fun.

Yesterday I took 92.5kg in bench press, so I'm only 7.5 kg form my goal for this fall. I'll try to eat less now though, so I might not gain in strength so fast anymore. Whatever, I want to look good so I need to drop some weight. I hope to have a pretty low BFI when the summer begins. I've read a lot about diet and stuff too and it seems doable.

edit: List of stuff I'm grateful for today.

1. My friends. They own. Not much more to say. Makes life worth living.

2. A couple of LP'ers who's taught me a lot in one way or another. SakiSaki, PPlusAD, Sanai, Pinball (mostly by meeting him IRL and getting an better idea about the life as a full time poker player), Talanted Tom (who inspired me to be a lagtard), Malimis, FA etc. Probably forgot a few of them.

3. My luck with my class this year. Some of my classmates are really great.
