leasing for apartments questoin? by rockman255, December 05

umm, so im trying to relocate for january and they refuse to grant me a lease without a guarantor, while right now i can see that as completely legitimate, can anybody shed some advice on the issue? will i experience the same troubles if i have a decent amount of savings but no full-time job a year from now, three years from now, ?

i think it completely depends on the specific property and that i can probably find a place that will be content with my current part-time work status and won't demand a guarantor, but does anybody who has dealt with this sort of thing have anything to say?

i'm at a pretty tough crossroads right now in my life. i havent yet graduated, convocation is in february but i really do want to give poker a shot for a year with my quite useless math degree in hand and see what happens.

anyone? anything?

NL5 week1 by Uptown, December 05

Summary: Ongoing learning process.

Seems like forever ago that I moved from NL2 to NL5 but no, it was indeed just 7 days ago. Since then I've ran good, been sucked out hard, been delusional, and caught a few suck outs of my own, among other things.

Due to the 2bi shots I've taken into NL10, the graph doesn't accurately represent my BR, but it does depict the progress at NL5. I'm as big a nit as I ever was PF, and have been concentrating primarily on becoming a nit postflop (which I definitely wasn't before), and identifying villains' lines. I've definitely made progress, but obviously it's just the first few steps in the marathon ahead of me.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/130b098875e34a4db9c2053a7a6826bf.jpg

While I was wishywashy and shaky during my NL10 shots, it helped me immensely when I dropped back down to NL5, as I'm finding the tables there to be much softer than before. Did just 3k hands at NL10 really improve my play? Probably not, but the sensation does seem genuine.

My challenge is still going to be to learn to JLIG my hands that I know are beat by the villain's draw that hit on the river, etc. I plan to stick to NL5 a bit longer before I take my next minishot at NL10.

Cheerio~

Beginning Inventory continued.... by freehatch, December 05

There is about 2 miles from the highway to my house of "28th street". When I moved to this city 28th street was the weekend hot spot. Lots of restaurants, stores, a movie theatre, a strip mall, etc... Up until 2 months ago I worked in the middle of that 2 mile strip for 8 years for a corporate restaurant. When that restaurant opened it was one of the busiest restaurants in the company, winning awards for breaking sales records. Across the street there is Studio 28. When Studio 28 opened 43 years ago, it was the biggest movie theatre in the country and it had the most advanced sound system in the country. George Lucas personally came to Studio 28 to supervise it being installed. A block down the road there was "Rogers", once the largest department store in west Michigan.

Last week, Studio 28 closed down. Once the staple of weekend nights for the entire city, now a giant empty building with a parking lot so big it now resembles a desert. Rogers shut down about a year ago. The fazzoli's that was across the street from my restaurant shut down about 2 years ago, and the building has been vacant every since. Before that it was vacant due to IHOP shutting down. In fact, as I drove down 28th street from the highway to my house last night, I counted 20 businesses that have shut down on that 2 mile stretch just in the past 3 years. At first it was the small mom and pop shops. Then it was a few buildings which seemed to have a revolving door of local restaurants. Rogers shutting down was big. Studio 28 was a shock.

About a mile away on 36th street, the GM plant is shutting down next year. They have already laid off 100's of jobs, and before the actually factory closing, 100's more will go. Over the last 3 years I've slowly watched the economy around me slow down, but it seems to be hitting a breaking point. The mom and pop shops having been struggling for years, but the large companies have been able to hold on. Now I am watching what was the largest movie theatre in the country shut down, the largest auto manufacturer in the company shut down a factory right down the street. I work for the largest casual dining company in the world, and today it announced another round of mid management lay offs, and everyone company wide will not be receiving a raise for at least through the end of 2009. If that was not grim enough, the big 3 auto companies are literally begging for a bail out. As much as I hate the idea of bailing out a business that has utterly failed to adapt to market changes for short term gains, if they are not bailed out Michigan will be utterly fucked. The economic slow down that I have watched around me and within my own company will most likely be dwarfed by the consequences.

In that light, my goals are for poker to be my stop loss. In a region where there are more unemployed than available jobs, there is a great irony that poker is probably my most secure course of action. The point of posting this is to measure my goals with poker against the seemingly overwhelming economic realities around me and to display its progress.

Variance is fun by Cooperstown, December 04

Been mass tabling 50nl FR and been up very very slightly or even mostly. Log a win here lose a buy in there. I should have logged some big wins, but I'm just lucky enough to run into constant bullshit. Top 2 into a set vs someone sitting with just over 1/2 a buy in. Flush under flush, set under set etc. Then there's this kind of shit. Eventually the cards will turn it's just frustrating logging a lot of hands to have your win rate go to shit because of hands like this.

2009 by collegesucks, December 04

The impetus that led me to post a new thread questioning my sense of purpose and direction was this:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/bf0ae4ef48929363744c1c0baaf61339.jpg

these books came in the mail today. they are the material that i have to study from now until June in order to prep for the CFA exam. With the last bit of live cashout money I signed up for this exam (fucking $1000 for a test + books lol).

tonight i'm going to set up a strict schedule for the coming months, during which i will attempt to balance studying these books, my last semester of college, my job at the school's finance department office, and poker. Next semester, I have class all day during tuesdays and thursdays. i think i'll limit my schedule so that i work only on wednesdays or something (the pay is absolutely pathetic but it's useful for reference purposes). other than that, i will have a 4-day weekend, during which i can freely mix up my schedule between poker and the cfa exam. I have NEVER in my life been a follower of schedules but let's see how a shift in gears will improve my life.

lol... all i need to do now is figure out how to keep myself the fuck away from my degen buddies.

asdf halp 2 win by phexac, December 04

Just as I thought my downswing was over and I was recovering, I hit another one. Just dropped 2k in under 30 minutes, losing 800 after I hit "sit out next BB" because of stop loss. For the voyers out there, enjoy:

My first AA in about 2,400 hands (not kidding):
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/581816

And here I thought I was 3betting for value:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/581818

I knew I should have CF that river...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/581819

Sessions like these really make me wonder wtf is the point. No matter how bad my opponent's situation is, they either catch up or flop a random miracle. I am roughly 12k under expectation at this point over the past 4 weeks, and that does not take into account hands such as the last one, where the opponent calls down with worse and hits a miracle river, or setups. ARRRGGHH!!!

Goal Reached by MayZerG, December 04

Just now got PT3 above $1k since July 1st, so its a good feeling, very happy with the grinding thats paid off so far. All i need to do now is master 25nl, which im up 5BIs this month, so im slowly going to make it into the green eventually. If i can do that then 50nl within 2 months, i'd be very confident with my position and may try and quit part-time job to just focus 6-10 hours a day, which would probably get me SuperNova, but 1 step at a time right?

First step has been made

[X] $1,000
[] $5,000
[] $10,000
[] $25,000
[] $100,000

Change it up a bit by EXCELED, December 04

I palyed a little bit of NLHE for the first time in a while today. I made the switch over to LHE a little while ago for a few reasons but felt like playing NLHE today for some reason. I am rolled for .10/.25 so I brought up a table.

I did really good today and actually made 3 BI. It was nice to play it again but man its such a nit show its rediculous. It was so much folding and so boring lol. There wasnt a single person at the table with a VPIP higher then 20%. I guess thats where you want to be but its ZZzzZZzz compared to LHE. Dont get me wrong there is for sure more money to be made at NLHE but its just not my game anymore. Plus losing a full stack tilts the fuck outta me.

I guess the only reason I jumped on NLHE was because my variance in LHE has been so wicked lately and I was getting pissed. I heard NLHE varaince is less and that makes sense. But when you run bad in NLHE you lose alot more Im thinking. Here is a question for you guys.

Ok so I am prefectly happy with playing low limits forever as long as Im making decent money.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS EASIER TO BECOME A CONSISTENT WINNER IN?:

.10/.25 - .5/1 NLHE or .5/1 - 2/4 LHE ?

Donkey Test Help by SpoR, December 04

http://www.donkeytest.com/prep.html
So I scored really shitty on the test 91(worse than last time I took it 18 months ago which was 99).
Anyone care to explain some of the answers more in depth?
Here are the answers I picked:

+ Show Spoiler +

PS- This test was really long and like 30% of the answers I was really unsure between 2 choices because I don't play these limits or cash games. For example, the first question. I knew 72o is the worst hand in a ring game and heads up low cards are worse (32o). But I chose A just because I probably wouldn't play either hand and basically flipped a coin to choose because they are equally shitty.

Other questions are just insanely hard situations that I would never be in and have no clue how to play. I'm more of a Tight Aggressive player. For much of these I chose the most conservative answer (fold).

Questions for NL50 vid by edzwoo, December 04

I just recorded a 1hr 14min vid of myself 9 tabling NL50 and I have a few questions:

1. Would anyone actually take the time to watch it and critique my play? (obv)
2. It's 2gb big but I'm a little afraid to compress the video because the tables are already at the smallest size, so it might make the bets or cards unreadable. Any suggestions?
3. Where could I host it?

Rebuilding Begins by k2o4, December 04

Well it started last night with 1 bad session that I quit quickly and lost a little less than 1 BI. Then it really got going today with a coaching session in the morning, a break evenish session in the afternoon and a nice win in the evening. 3 session days r thx. Also excited to clear this $650 bonus especially now that echecks are back! So it won't be a 2 week wait once I cash out this time. That will be nice.

Excited to get back to 4k and take another NL200 shot. And this time I'm not going to tilt. Fuck that shit!

http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//Sessions-12-03-08-NL100-1day.jpg
http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//Graph-12-03-08-NL100-Dollars-1day.jpg

I'm sitting at $3,350 so I'm 6.5 buyins shy of another shot. Maybe this weekend will be a good one!
