NL25 Shot by MayZerG, December 04

So far so good this month, happy with my progress. Deffinately not as hard as i thought the last few blogposts, just need good table selection to makesure im not with a table full of nits.

I think i deffinately missplayed a few hands and missed value which im sure is hurting my winrate a little, but if you can comment on the hands i lost big on. Then im sure i will improve, thanks all!

http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/8293/nl25novfx8.jpg

Think i played this hand like a pussy on the turn, shoulda bet pot, and his river raise i should have just called, but i was putting him on AK or a lower flush which is why i pushed. I'll learn to just call a raise when flush comes on paired board.

+ Show Spoiler +

This was a mix of a cooler and maybe missplayed by me. We had some history of raising eachother, and i thought he either had AJ or TT (if he 3bet me light which was possible) or had AK AQ and completely missed, in which case i shoulda called for him to lead turn again.

+ Show Spoiler +

Think i played this fine, went into check-call mode after the raise to minimize potential losses if i was behind.

+ Show Spoiler +

Should i have value bet smaller to force a call? Or was my shove correct in him maybe having a smaller fullhouse or maybe calling with the flush? I feel i missed value here.

Drinking Water... by eightfourO, December 03

I love drinking water. Water is so crisp and refreshing, especially when it is nice and cool, with a light amount of ice. Personally, i try drinking a gallon of water a day. Nothing bad can come of drinking water, that is unless you drink four gallons of water within 6 hours and get water poisoning. That would be terrible. But you cannot deny that drinking water (in moderation) is obviously wonderful in every aspect. It helps you stay awake, it hydrates your body, it makes you pee a lot, its a natural detox, it will cleanse your body, it keeps your temperature in balance at 98.7 degrees F, and water also supresses appetite! Perfect for all diets!

But its not just drinking water that makes water amazing. You can use it to clean things like clothes, dishes, cars, boats, fruits and vegetables, yourself, you can swim in it, cook with it, you can pull pranks with it, you can put it in a balloon and have water fights with it (unless you're in canada of course where the temperature is in the negatives every day of the year), you can soak things in it, and you can also contain fish in it!

Got a place by EXCELED, December 03

I went back down to London (Canada) today to look at a few more places. I had some time to kill so I went to the WhiteOaks mall and ended up buying a nice jacket and a sweater. So anyways I had 2 houses to look at today and decided if I didnt like any of them I was just going to move into one of the places I looked at yesterday.

Alright so the first place I looked at was in the fucking hood again. The place was a joke and the guys were straight up wannabe Gangsters. The guy who showed me the place was wearing a doo rag lol! What a plug. Obviously I left that place as quick as possible.

I went to the second place an hour later and this house was pretty nice. The only problem was that it was a married couple living in the house and I really didnt want that. I can see us butting heads a lot and I would never really be able to have people over or anything like that. They were really nice people and had a really nice house but it just wasnt for me.

After I left the second place I called up the Landlord from the house on Oxford that I looked at yesterday and told her I wanted to take one more quick look at the place. I went over there and got there before she did and had a pretty good talk with the guy who lives there. He seemed like a pretty legit guy who liked to party so that was a bonus. When the Landlord got there I told her I would like to move into this place and signed all the papers and gave her the rent. I also took some measurements of the room so I know how big my bed can be and shit. Its not the biggest room so I wanna know what I can and cannot fit in there with my bed yea kno? Another bonus about this place was I didnt have to fill out a lease. It was an agreement instead and in return she asked for a months notice before you move out. This was pretty good because I know when Apr/May comes around there is going to be a shit load of houses empty and open for rent so if for some reason I find a better place I can move out pretty quick.

I got a place! Im pretty excited and hopefully Ill be moved all move in in about 3 weeks. Its gonna be good times. If you live in London and feel like getting er done sometime let me know lol. Until then I gotta keep grinding away. Made about 50BB today so Ive pretty much made back all the money I lost the other day.

Im going to go watch the final Ultimate Fighter shows everyone. PZ!

Beginning Inventory by freehatch, December 03

I hesistently admit I was drawn into poker from the prospects of making a lot of money. I was first introduced to the idea from ilnp's money tracking website he started years back, but I did not start until the launch of LP. I had losely followed the poker talk on TL.net, but had not gained enough interest to give it a shot. I initially started with a free $50 bucks from partpoker, a free 20 from CDpoker, and a free 20 from pokertime. I naively thought I could hop on board the poker train and get rich quick. 2 months later I had gotten nowhere, and my interested faded. Then my poker accounts were locked out becuase apparently poker players are terrorist. I quit for 3 years.

I started again this past summer, and I am comitted to being successful. I am 100k hands into my poker experience, and have grown to enjoy the game, yet admittedly without the prospect of financial gain I would not still be playing - it's just to damn frustrating. Here I am less interested in tracking my poker ups and downs, but rather the impact it will have on my life. I expect this to only be interesting in hindsight.

Status:

Bank roll: $526
Limits: NL10
Monthly poker take home: 0

Job: Restaurant manager
Salary: 42k
Hrs/wk: 50

Debt: 10k credit cards. 120k house.
Discretionary income: 0

Goals:
Short term: NL50 in 2 months
Mid term: pay off debt
long term: quit my job

Will attempt to update weekly.

hehe, idiot plays ruining everything =) by ConquistadoR, December 03

Yo guys, i've been playing a bit recently, and since i moved up to NL25, i have been doing kinda good, but at the same time i managed to almost kill all my winnings with some idiotic tilty calls/allins.
If i manage to stop doing that, i will do very good and hopefully be ready to go to NL50 very soon, but ill have to play a lot during the next days. So all in all, im very unhappy with my results so far, but at the same time i am happy because if i wouldnt have done stupid shit i would be up a lot, with kind of a high winning rate as well. I seem to have fixed my non-showdown winnings leak as well. Also going to get some nice rakeback from the last month soon.

ewwww by Syntax, December 03

Ugly last few days.

I took a month off and now i'm back. Gotta keep learning this game...-_________-
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/SyntaxLlama/asfdasfdasfd.png

One thing i want to say: I really dislike this website. Incredible amount of idiots who think they know how to play yet they're at 25nl. It seems like everyone sucks up to eachother at this site. All the fish ... at least. There's a reason why you're still at micro stakes and can't move up. You suck. :/ This is really out of my character to even talk about this, but it's gotten so annoying reading some comments people make and their so called "advice" regarding poker theory. It wouldn't even be just that, giving advice that is, but they say shit with a sense of authority as if they've proven their superior thinking from grinding $10 SNGs...

I think i'm going to make an effort just to ignore most all comments from this site completely. Other than the few good players here... It's just too much of a joke.

Day 3-5 Review and December Goals by dejokah, December 03

I've been playing a decent amount of hands this days and this is how I'm doing so far:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/d6f05f1fecbd049394b767a764e99a18.jpg
(Any thoughts on the red line ?)

I'll try to play a lot more this week and try to get passed NL2 and move to NL10 FR, my other goal is to be at least halfway through NL10 by the end of December and i think that's not an unrealistic scenario unless i hit some sort of downswing.

Also I'm not posting hands anymore, to be honest i don't see the point in posting NL2 hands everything is standard and most of the play happens PF and Flop, I'm just following some basic guidelines I've set for myself.

Never fold (AA KK AK) PF only consider fold (AK KK) if 150BB+ deep.

Play overpairs and TPTK very strongly people pay off a lot with shitty kickers.

Always cbet IP and only OOP in good spots, also only fire a second bullet with some sort of draw people, in this limits will not fold their top flop pair if you raised them PF this becomes very exploitable with overpairs and most important NEVER fire a third bullet it's just spewing.

There are of course exceptions to this rules but they are few and far between in this limit.

December Coals by Night2o1, December 03

I'm going to play atleast 100k hands this month!

I'm going to make 100+BI at NL10!

I will consider a prop bet starting the 10th for something like 150BI at nl10 by the 31st!

I will not play nl25 until I have completed 100+BI at nl10! Maybe not at all if I do a ridiculous prop bet for nl10!

Don't get coal from Santa!

December Goals by RICHI8, December 03

Well it's the 3rd day of the month so I should make some goals for this month. I've been really busy with work so I've only had one session so far which didn't end very well. But here are my December goals:

- Have a total of 30k hands at NL10 (I have about 8k right now)
- Have a win rate of 4bb/100
- Be rolled to play NL25

Wish me luck!

Introspection. My weakness. by Night2o1, December 03

I was grinding some nl10 just a second ago, and I called down in a spot where I knew it was very unlikely my hand was going to be good at showdown. There were a couple of hints or reads I put together by the time he fired turn and I said, "Looks like my hand is bad". But I called anyway, and then I called another barrel on the river.

I thought about this for about 5 minutes as I closed my tables to focus on what was going on in my head during this hand. I think I figured it out, and its something that cripples me in some way in every aspect of my life.. And poker is interesting because it brings this problem of mine into absolute full focus.

I am deathly afraid of being wrong.

This is something I already knew about myself, though I have never truly resolved to stamp it out of my personality and my thought processes. But I have to if I want to be successful-- and I do. I am a very ambitious person in a variety of areas. Of course, they all require complete confidence in my own abilities.

Which sucks since that seems to be my greatest weakness.

So I will begin working on myself through poker.. As a start to the renovation of myself in my approach to everything I do.

In poker terms, I know when my overpair is most likely no good. I am afraid to fold it and look like a fool (too who? Not sure). A number of times I've resolved to fold a hand when I shouldn't have-- a symptom of my problem-- and then was berated when I posted the hand. Which is fine; but my problem with this simple poker concept isn't that I am technically unsound.

So long as I keep this in mind and focus on controlling this part of my personality, I think success in other areas will follow.

Because hey, I know I am a pretty damn smart guy in the end.

[5NL] Introduction - A New Fish in the Sea by hhse, December 03

Unlike the other controlled and bright chaps here, it took me a fair bit longer to beat 2NL [over half a year]. How did that come to be?

Well long story made short - every time I played bad or got sucked out, I made the decision to move up a stake, so eventually I found myself on 25NL spewing all my hard earned BR until I found myself refilling again. Ain't I awesome!

But all that is behind me now. And here I am at 5NL. Initially, I was running like "GOD" so my friends told me, as over 3 days I managed to get my BR from $60 -> $138 in 5NL, but since then I have hit a brick wall and fallen down towards $110.

Now its, 'Henry you are aggro'. And I am glad that both my friends LiLZhiMing and Dryath were able to make me realise that there was a serious flaw in my game [Thanks guys for the continued help].

They were:
iscouraging villain's to enter the pot when I held 'hole cards' good for multi-way pot, e.g 88.
*Making it relatively cheap for multiple people to enter the pot when I held cards like AK,AQ etc.

I don't know if people have made these errors when they first started, but I surely have. So at the moment I am in the process of reevaluating when I should bet/limp/3bet in pre-flop play. And as a result my BR hasn't gone anywhere and is still sitting at the $110 mark.

I am ambitious, and seek to be bankrolled for 50NL by the end of January. And, then I officially start work as an Auditor in February [I know what you are thinking! But works, work!]

Good luck to all the other grinders out there!

Cheers,

Henry

1st 100NL shot + life update by sooon2b, December 03

So, I definitely have not updated in awhile so I figured I might as well now since i'm bored and don't want to study for this damn exam. Last month I think I barely played any poker due to school and fraternity obligations. So far this semester is going pretty well, and I am hoping to pull a 3.5. Next semester is gonna be a bitch though since I have taken most of my electives. I will be loading up on 18 credit hours of my major courses.

The fraternity has been so-so. I almost quit due to some exaggerated and false drug accusations. I mean, i'm not gonna lie, I do a good amount of drugs on a regular basis, but I have never let it interfere with my priorities. I am not sure if these claims were made out of jealousy or what. Ultimately the situation ended up being resolved and all is well now.

I have an interview tomorrow for Executive Director of Scholarship for IFC(Inter-Fraternal Council). I am really hoping to get this position since it is quite similar to my current fraternity executive board position. I think I might even get my own office on campus which would be sick as hell. I am hoping I get the opportunity to do some really cool things and improve the overall academics of campus by helping each greek organizations Director of Academic Affairs improve their current programs by holding round table meetings with all of them and finding what works and what doesnt. I also want to get some academic sponsorships through local businesses to give the greek community incentives to do well. Overall I think this will be a great experience, and I am hoping to have a successful year in this position to help me run for president of IFC(Inter-Fraternal Council) next year.

Ok, now on to poker! So, like I said, I barely played any poker last month. Over the past 2 months I have been killing 50NLHE/50PLHE for ~16ptbb. Today I finally upgraded my HEM and took my first shot at 100NL. Luckily, I ran well and my soul reading skills were pretty much spot on. Ill post the major hands/cool hands from the session. The goofy/crazy looking ones were 100% read/feel based.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/580774
he started going batshit crazy, making insane big opening raises pf, doing redic shit, seemed pretty obv he was on tilt

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/580773
quick flop call, quick turn check, quick river shove, missed fd ldo

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/580772
calling just felt right vs this donk

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/580794
Expected his pf calling range to be tighter since he was 18/15 solid and I had been playing fairly nitty on that particular table. In hindsight my turn bet-sizing was bad, but I figured the only card I might be afraid of was a T so I went with the gay-bet to hopefully induce a bluff or a bad call and still make him feel somewhat committed on the river.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/580796
I was kinda lost on the river here. Villain was pretty bad from what I had seen. Our only prior encounter was when he limped pf, a regular iso-raised, I 3-bet, he called the 3-bet and the regular folded. I cb 842ss flop and he folded. In this hand, I kinda wanted to v-bet the river small to induce a light call, but didnt think I could call a shove. I also thought c/c was a bit too weak. Wasn't sure what the best play here was, thoughts?

Finally, my sweet graph from the session.
