Pocker Aces...anyone not push here? by LemOn[5thF], March 30

Cheeky bastard called my raise so I clearly didn't put him on this, but like 88-JJ.

anyone just flat the first or second raise?
The more I raise the more I am commited, and I was like uh oh I am pwned after the second reraise, but I had no choice due to pot odds.

March revisited by MARSHALL28, March 30

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/2171/mar09f.th.jpg

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2883/mar09graph.th.jpg

So it looks like I've done pretty well for March. I made almost 60 buy ins at 100nl, and a little over 60 buy ins at 200nl. I've dabbled a bit in the 2/4 games and feel like I definitely have an edge in the games particularly since my coaches seem to believe the same thing, though I think I haven't run very well and have gotten the short end of the stick quite a bit. I think that in time this will even itself out and I will start to become a winner.

At the time of writing my previous entry, I was struggling to make the jump to 1/2 and cement myself as a solid player in those games. I think I've definitely accomplished that and my results back up that assessment.

One of the things I wanted to work on was my bet sizing in 3bet pots postflop. I feel like I've definitely improved from the point I was at about a month ago, and I think I will continue to improve in this area. I'm starting to notice things that I recall noticing the first time around when I started to feel like I was really increasing my skill to a high level. I've been watching a ton of videos and spending a bunch of money on coaching from multiple players trying to do everything I can to accelerate my learning curve and improve my game as quickly and drastically as possible. I feel like it's working and that I will continue to make big strides as I move forward.

One of the things I wanted to add was a stop loss. I am happy to say that I successfully used a 3 buy in stop loss for every session during March except for my very last most recent one. I lost 2k in my previous heads up session, and feel that part of the reason I screwed up in not quitting sooner was that I was playing heads up across 3 different stakes, .5/1 1/2 and 2/4. Had I noticed how much I was down or paid attention to how many buy ins it was, I believe I would have been able to recognize what was happening and stop sooner. Obviously it was a costly mistake and one I hope to not continue to make in the future, but I think that being able to look through my list of sessions and seeing not one (other than this last one) where I lost more than 3 buy ins is a VERY VERY big step for me. One I couldn't possibly have taken 6 months ago, which is just another sign that I'm headed in the right direction.

So last time I listed a few goals I wanted to achieve through the leak plugging article in HEM,
Beginning of March:

Currently calling 3bets 37% of the time
Goal - Get it under 30%

Currently folding to flop raises 36% of the time
Goal - Get it above 46%

Currently double barreling 50%
Goal - Get it under 45%

I've been playing a lot of heads up lately, which is actually the first time I've ever been successful playing heads up. Even in the past I have always been a lifetime loser until very recently I started killing it. The biggest difference in what I'm doing now compared to what I used to do when playing HU is that in HU bluffing frequencies tend to be high since nobody really ever has anything, and I always tried to use my 6max style to play HU, which really was not profitable because you are given a ton more credit in 6max for actually having what you're representing a lot of the time whereas in HU nobody really wants to give you credit for it. SO, because of the increased amount of HU I've been playing, I'm not quite sure if I have enough of a sample in 6max hands to determine if I've improved my game in any of these categories, but oh well, I guess I'll take a look anyways.....

End of March:

Goal: Call 3bets under 30% of the time
Currently: Calling 3bets 35% of the time

Note - 35% is definitely an improvement over 37%, though it seems to me I still have room to improve. I'm going to continue to set the point I'd like to be at at 30%

Goal: Fold to flop raises more than 46% of the time
Currently: Folding to flop raises 35% of the time.

Note - It looks like I'm headed in the wrong direction. I'm not quite sure how important this number is though since it's very evident to me that the 2/4 games have much much more flop raising than 1/2, and many regulars are willing to auto-stack off w/ tp3k, so I am a bit skeptical as to how important it is I am folding to these raises. I'm going to ignore it for the time being and come back to it at another point down the road when I have another sample.

Goal: Double barrel under 45% of the time
Currently: Double barreling 48% of the time

Note - I see another improvement, though not yet where HEM claims I should be.

The more I'm thinking about these things, the more it seems to me that they will fix themselves when my hand reading ability improves. I'm not currently able to take people off hands as often as I'd like and am missing value in many spots as well as not getting paid off enough times with my big hands. These are things that will improve as my thought process improves.

As far as goals for April, the biggest thing that I KNOW I have to work on is constructing ranges. When I'm attentive and focused and seeing things as they happen in the moment, I am able to construct my opponent's range very well and come up with the best response to the situation very often. I know I am capable of it, because when I go to help friends at micro stakes and they are asking me what to do in a certain situation, I can come up with a number of reasons for advocating whatever action I think hero should take and why. While I'm playing I really struggle to do this often and consistently. Anybody have any advice on how to improve my consistency here?

I've begun to contact coaches at the highest level I can reach. Trying to let them know of my circumstance and my long term goals, fishing a bit to see who is willing to put out an arm to give me a bit of a pull up in their direction. I've had two responses and both were so far positive, hopefully I can convince one of them to take me on. I am getting to the point in my life where if I don't actualize any of this perceived potential I believe I have, I'm going to lose any self confidence towards future endeavors. I don't think I could understate how badly I want to make it to a high level and what I'm willing to sacrifice to get there. I'm already living with my parents, studying 10 hours a week and playing 50. I'm going to continue this regimen through April.

Even though I've hit a bit of a downswing, where I was up 20k for the month, but now only up 16, I think I've had an extremely successful month and look forward to having another one even more successful.

March dun by Critterer, March 30

Meh didn't get in as many hands as i wanted but 28.5k is alright for me considering i didnt play for a 10 day stretch in the month

Aiming for a 50k month which is so easily achievable considering im 12 tabling FR atm.

BR is currently at 740 which is okay considering cashouts. Planning on moving up to nl50 at 1k.

Got goldstar which i wanted, but now the next 2 weeks i got a shit load of university work so if i can average 1k hands a day for until 10th of april im gunna be happy.

Anyway heres graph+stats of march

march! by YoUr_KiLLeR, March 30

early march entry bcuz im probably not going to play tomorrow.

started off this month at 25nl still and quickly got enough in my roll to have 20 buyins for nl50. i took a 4 buyin shot and havent looked back yet. this is awesome bcuz it took me 2-4 shots before i could stay at nl10 and 25. nl50 is noticeably tougher. theres a lotttttt more regs and everyone 3bets a lot. some of the regs there give me a lot of trouble.

ive gotten a bit spewy at times trying new plays and getting myself into different spots vs regs. ive improved my handreading a little bit. this is the first limit where i feel its important. at 25nl and below you dont really have to think about their ranges as much. hopefully things continue going ok and i can take a shot at 100nl in april.

got 24.3k hands in (72 hours), which isnt terrible considering i 4 table and also took a week off for exams.

MTTs n shit by NeillyJQ, March 30

Decided to stay in for MTT day, was staked for some big MTTs that I had another epic failure in (i mean cmon guys, i suck )

won the $16.50 360 man though :-)

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/5bf078329fc30dec855cab2bd41a9cb2.jpg

so i put 200 on the other day, ran up to 1800 today, had a friend taking over for me when i had to go afk on and off during the day, so i ship him $115 so he can start the $3 sng's on stars since he plays on FTP (Dan crushes the turbo sng's there.)

Also won like $200 in the $55 cubed (lost AA vs 77 vs 7T (top set vs runner runner flush with 100tg...FML?) 1st in that was 20k

ugh, was real deep in the 3rebuy, and had something really fucked up happen, i flopped top set, c/r and get called by the FD. turn comes out, i boat up, ask adalpha what he would bet here, he said "timebank and bet 30k" - OH WELL - I DIDNT HAVE A FUCKING TIMEBANK! it folded! went on supermegatilt and busted out of the tourney after that, went n got some McDonalds and now taking rest of night off

I'm stayin on NL10 til I win 20bi on each limit, and going to continue my way up online slowly and grind live for the most part (cept sundays obv)

hrm, can't say it enuf, VEGAS > WORLD (although Taiwan does run a close 2nd imo)

We had a few friends stay the weekend, had an awesome time, everyone was cool as hell, we had a fuckin awesome night out on the city on friday, kinda partied a little too hard at the end of the night, s'all gud tho

Monday back to the live grind most likely

Working on eliminating all my spews from FR play (a great NL100 - NL600 player has been staying with us and helping us a TON) - literally pointed out like 205,695 spews that I had that I never realized were spews.

So, my new goals in life are as follows.

Grind my ass off at 1/2 for a long time (i don't even care to move up, its so soft and no reason to go into tougher games where the bi is only $500 instead of $300)

Going to play NL10 online til I win 20 bi, then NL25 til I win 20 bi and so on til I hit NL100, ceiling there for a bit and enjoy

So, we have these $320 deepstacks coming up in the start of April, my roommate and I are going to take 50% on each other in the tournaments, or just 1 takes 50% on the other and split profits etc.

Hrm, excited to meet Jennifer Harman on the 15th of April for the Harman Classic at The Venetian, thats gonna be so pimp (its a $1050 rebuy, 99% not gonna play in it, just gonna go watch the higher level players play and meet and maybe stalk jen?

rS.eVaDe - Adalpha and Quoc (Quocy04) have helped me SO much since I've arrived in vegas, idk where i'd be or what woulda happened with out them.

They're both fuckin awesome people, as well as Danny and Bucky who have been chillin w/ us as well (both ultra cool ppl and Dannys a great player with awesome potential)

Alright guys, I'm gonna go burn one for the last time for the next month or so (friends leavin in the morning, they brought weed, gonna enjoy it while its here, cuz i'm not buyin annnnnnnnnnnnnnny drugs while in vegas (unless an amazingly hot girls involved and wants some) :-)

GL LP

Much love

TTY soon

anyone comin to vegas hit me up

bigred ! - pm me, get my phone #, I can't wait to learn from you man.

Mad props go out to BigFrySmallF as well, hes such an awesome pimp ;-) Next week 4tw

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn JOHN + Whamm (the circle never ends yo!)

aight
rant over

Good weekend by k2o4, March 30

So decided to check my results finally while reviewing a bunch of hands. Definitely had some stupid mistakes but the vast majority of my losing hands were coolers/beats with a few really tough spots where I'm not sure what to do. Overall I feel pretty happy with how I played. Also glad to see that my losing sessions were all very short while my winning sessions were all very long =) Had a huge day on friday and won 1.6k. Saturday I lost about $900 in 2 shitty sessions. Today I won about $400 so that puts me at a $1,100 profit for the weekend. Not bad. BR back over 9k. That's nice too.

Overall failed on mass grinding this month, mostly due to slacking in the first 14 days or so. Made up a lot of ground in the last 2 weeks though and am at about 30k hands for the month. Hoping to get 40k-50k next month. Now that I've got this new system I think I'm gonna be playing a lot more hands and having some pretty good results =)

I'm definitely happy with how I've been doing poker. Handled a downswing pretty well. Definitely could have been better but it helped me develop this new systems and address problems that I really needed to face, like playing short winning sessions and long losing ones. Obviously nothing is "fixed" yet but I'm on the right path and I feel like if I keep trucking along in this direction and following the rules and plans I set for myself, that I will have a lot of success.

About 6 months ago I was hoping to be rolled for and comfortable @ NL200 by march. Well march is coming to an end and I am rolled for NL200 and very comfortable with it, so that's a nice feeling =) I figure the next month will be a big NL200 focus. Might turn into a big downswing, or a big upswing, not sure, but overall my goal is to get a 100k hands of NL200 played with a winning bb/100 so that I feel good about playing and beating the limit. Of course if I upswing I'll mess around on NL400 a bit but I don't think I'm going to make a full attempt to become a reg there until I've got enough NL200 experience. I'm sure there's still plenty for me to learn.

As for BR checking, I think I'm gonna wait till next sunday night or monday morning to check it again. I like the idea of seeing a week at a time cause that's a better "long run" view rather than the session by session results which is so damn short run.

quick question by EXCELED, March 29

ok so i dont want to fuck this up. i am switching to ub because i need rakeback and i can clear a nice bonus there too. my question is when making the account i put in the refferal code to ge tthe rakeback. now i hope i put this in the right spot. when i go to make a deposit there is a spot for a code as well. is this where i put in the code to get the deposit bonus or did i fuck it already and should be putting the rakeback code there instead?

recoverment by domyouji, March 29

So during the middle of this month had a really bad downswing recovered a bit and then it went down again to the lowest point at -15bi as my non sd winnings went down to the toilet, last 5 days been doing better and recovered. I think I'm probably done for this month, gonna put in some hands during spring break which takes up most of next month and get my 4k bonus so I can cash that out and buy some nice stuff

more volume = variance obv by whamm!, March 29

ive tried playing a lot more hands this past week since ive been waaaay to lazy and unmotivated to grind pokers coz rng hates me and would like to see my tilt threshold so it seems, seriously, ive played far too long and seen bad swings per session but this whole month seems to be my worst ever considering i already moved down to 50nl and can beat games here pretty easily. but my upping the # of hands has so far been working out for me and will continue to do so and increase volume even more pretty soon, im looking at 10 to 12k hands a day and just fuck the results, so in a way this month has been some sort of "variance" training for me lol
here's today's first session :

this month was really gay in terms of practically everything; vpps , downswing, breakeven poker, my game adjusted to being tight again and it kinda sux, wish me luck in my fpp whoring , gl gl

GG by dejokah, March 29

I never posted personal stuff in here and I was never a big fan of blogs but posting poker stuff made me realize I kinda like it, it's good to be able to look back and see what was going on in your head, based on this conclusion I'll post some things that I think are relevant and could help me make decisions in the future.

This is boring and very personal so I don't expect much input even tho I'd like to see what people that have poker as their main income have to say about it. +)

I've just spent the last 6 months at my mother's house in Florida (Lehigh Acres) and it was really fun I've met a lot of places and learned a thing or two, my time here is over and I'm going back to Brazil soon, when I decided to come and visit my mom I quit my job as a network consultant took all the money I had and got into the plane, for some time I considered the option of living here but to be honest I love Brasil, São Paulo is probably the best city in the universe and also getting a job that I would like to have here is not a very easy task, my mom is a cleaning lady her husband is a driver and they make a pretty decent living, much better then they would in Brazil with those jobs, but I'm used to a different line of work so I don't think I could do what they do.

In my old job I got to travel a lot, had flexible hours and spent a lot of time in hotel rooms working by myself or meetings with clients and giving specific courses in network security products even tho some people might consider this far from optimal I loved it, I like to work alone and do things on my own time.

When I got here I had enough money and didn't need to work, after some time the money was running low and I got back into poker just to see if I could make something of it I had some bad and good times, I really love this game and the thought that I could make a living out of it was the most awesome thing I could think of except that after endless hours of grinding microstakes I realized that it's a lot of work and the more I played the more it looked like a regular job, I could play for 1 or 2 weeks nonstop and have a blast but after that my game became pretty shitty and I had to take long breaks to get my regular game back.

Even with all this I was confident that I could beat midstakes in the near future NL50/NL100 MTTing perhaps 8-tables would be more then enough to have a good life, I also have some stock in BOVESPA (Brazilian stock market) and I was considering merging both "hobbies" to see if something good could come out of it.

Anyway I didn't play for 6 months straight in the US more like 4 with a couple of breaks between, I made two cashouts one for 400$ and the last one 1360$ that's not a lot of money but still I bought some cool stuff and I'm taking the rest of the money with me so that I can have a month to decide where my life is going.

I decided to leave only 160$ in my account and play NL10 casually rebuild from scratch and if and when I get another roll to play NL50 I'll decide what to do, for now I'm going to use something that I learned here in the US and try to become an english teacher, I gave a couple of classes to my mom's husband and a Mexican friend of his, they are both taking the citizenship test after living here for 6 years but their english is far from good, anyway I didn't charge for the classes but it was very satisfying for me to watch them learn.

Huge wall of text is almost done, I liked my job as a consultant but maybe it's time to try something new and the teacher thing really got me excited, for now poker is going to be a hobby I'll only play when I feel like playing.

Well that's all I had in my mind it should be an interesting read a couple of months from now.

Vegas by NeillyJQ, March 29

live poker is fairly easy

wynn players suck

1/2 is fun and most nl25+ players can crush FR here

venetian is awesome, my regular casino

my roommates are straight pimps (seriously, they get me hookers for $99)

and ADALPHA - HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY (rS.EvaDe)

great time, lost alot day 1 , won my last 3 days, i love 1/2 and won't move up until i have around 10-20k, since 2/5 is such a dif dynamic and its only a $200 difference since 1/2 is all 300$ bi

vegas is nice. :-)

March Results (11.5k) by PanoRaMa, March 29

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/sirasoni/marchfinal.png

March, despite breaking up with my gf early on, was pretty amazing. I managed to run fucking awesome early and whereas it's kinda stabilized towards the end, I have the utmost satisfaction with the month.

+11.2k net cash game profit
-1.5k donkament results
+1.8k rakeback
= 11.5k

Playing a lot more 2/4 now, and cashed out around 10k this month alone, so I'm happy. Stats have stabilized to around 23/19 with a 6% 3bet so I'm officially a tag (gone are the days of being 28/24 with like 10% 3bet but it's just way too high variance and easy to get raped TT).

Going to play SCOOP this April, so I'd like to get a few thousand onto Stars if possible (I give FTP), anyone wanna do a trade (min 500)? Known posters please (sniderstyle and uptown can vouch for me as well) .

Sick weekend with Dusty,Pinball and Remeber87... by MasterofLaw, March 29

This weekend was a real fucked up one. D and P was in Stockholm where I live to play Nordic Masters of Poker or whatever the name was. You all already probably heard of how great D played in that event. However, me and R87 joined P and D at the Casino on friday, but the list of people before us was about an interstate road long. So we had to wait about 4hrs or something before we could start playing. Me , D and R managed to sit down at the same table which was nice. But about 1.5 hour later P had finished main event for the day and the boys wanted to go home to me for a juicy homegame. I had really nice flow at my table and didn't want to leave but they convinced me. We played sek 2/4 and I made about 875bb:s which I consider to be really nice. After a couple of hours I decided to sit out and deal for the boys for a while before going to sleep. They raised the limits to 5/10 and P really raped and abused D and R87, the three-handed game didn't last long. Then finally I could go to sleep about 6 in the morning.

The day after we all went to a nice restaurant and thereafter headed to some fraternityparty in Uppsala, was ok. But we didn't stay so long until D meet Saki-Saki and the cock-measuring macho routines started. D challenged to S to a homegame as I can recall it.Settled and done, we went home for a game once again. Although it took us about 1.5 hour to walk 300m, eat some sausages and take a 10min cabtrip, due to Dusty. Think we even stopped on the way to play some blackjack also. P once again raped the homegame. Worth noticing is that the aggressor/initator/hoster, Dusty, was dealt more punches from P than starting hands from the dealer during his 3hands long session before he got busto 200bb. Thereafter he passed out on the floor 5min later =)

This morning he and D played hu, read about it in D:s blog.

I've played a session today. It sucked, Poker sucked, life sucked, I sucked. That's about it. Got some nice cards, none stood up, and others missed totally. So i dropped a couple of bi:s...still up though about 5bi since last week.

OVer and out!
