NL10 SH first session by LemOn[5thF], April 07

So I tried to go for NL10 today to see how are things and stuff.
And I must say I am largely disguisted.
Its like taking NL5 and stripping it of the decent bigstack people that want and can play poker.

Half the hands I play are either near shoves or immediate folds. People don't let go of anything including underpair on a overcard drawy suited board and as a result It seems that I just have to go for the Value Maximising approach, forcing the midstacks (There is like 20% people with full stack) To go All-in or near it in majority of hands.

I have a feeling that apart from making money this Limit is going to be extremely boring as I take out the awesome 300bb vs 300bb battles and am left with Just A.. poker (calling it ABC is too much).
Unfortunately this forces me to tighten up my range again. Bye Bye fun 45o openings I was playing profitably with 250bb+.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/076a1d070a7df95a7863385e3fb17f27.png

I tried some bluffs against the BigStacks at first, but they seem so perverted from the majority of players that they don't fold anything decent either, however hard you represent anything.
Well, Lets hope I can grind it up to NL25 as soon as possible, I saw from some videos that the bigstack percentage and percentage of normal people increases.

Gl at the tables,

Insomnia by CrownRoyal, April 07

Ok. There is something wrong with me. I have an unreal focus the past week, it's indescribable. I have been playing the longest sessions of poker in my life and sleeping a maximum of 2 hours a day. During my waking hours I am playing poker almost the entire day long (40k hands already this month playing not that many tables). This is obviously amazing because its exactly what I need to do cause im not really comforable playing for a living @ nl100. I have a br i dont think i could ever bust @ nl100 but I still feel sketchy about having 5k and expecting to make a living off of it when i have nothing saved up in the bank.

The problem lies in why the fuck am i not sleeping??? It can't be healthy to only sleep 1-2 hours a day and I want to sleep. I TRY to sleep but I fail. I decided to chase the gold card 500 rake race type thing on cake and am currently in the top 10. I played poker for 14 hours straight. I tried to lay down and sleep because i felt mentally and physically exhausted but I just laid there unable to sleep at all. My solution??? play more hands sigh.

In the spirit of realizing fayth is right and I should quit trying to live like a baller for 6months and just save my money and really be able to ball I havent drank a drop of alcohol in the past week. I really hope that this doesnt have something to do with it. I really really hope that my sleep isnt dependent on drinking that would be awful. I guess this is a blessing in some way but it could turn into the worst thing that ever happened to me if my life is fucked up for a period of time longer than I want it to be. I used to play 10-15k hands a month MAXIMUM and lose focus constantly and was literally the biggest failure of a grinder ever. Now I'm playing 15k hands in a session np.

<3 life right now but i hope stuff gets rearranged soon.

25nl video on Pokerstars by the cleaner, April 07

I was playing around with camtasia and decided to make a video 4tblg 25nl (6max) on pokerstars. I tried to keep it small. The size is 48mb and I messed up the audio. I don't think there is much educational stuff in there, just me running ridiculously hot.

note: anybody who is wondering about my hem hud setup:

plans vs reality by PplusAD, April 07

Hehe , yesterday i had a pretty dissapointing session at pokerstars and lost -210$

SO today i felt kinda ultrabored of pokerstars and thought i might just grind some relaxed NL25 6max Fulltilt
Originally i didnt want to play poker at all >-< but then decided some relaxed Nl25 is still better than not playing

Little did i know what should happen the next 7 hours when i opend my first Nl25 tables ( lolz)

i oficially played the longest session i ever played in my whole live
7 hours of Poker without a single break 6tabling Nl25 6max...

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9475/longestsessionever.jpg

First 1K hands i run beyond shit ...
I lost 3 sets + 1 flush + 1 straight + trips < trips + AA < JJ ..
basically i almost lost 1 BI in 100 hands by a horrendeus beat

after 2h of play i was down -174$

I decided if i shall quit or continue

I realized i am not tilted at all , cause the money on Nl25 is not too big
I decided that i played well so far and all money lost is due to setups and coolers

-> I decided to keep playing.
2 1/2 h laterz i was almost unstuck only down like -20$ or something.
I felt very tired and exhausted and thought about calling it a day

And then something happend that is probably comparable to a runners high ?
I just felt like being in a "flush"
my tiredness went away , everything felt easy and fluent ....
I kept playing for another 2 1/2 hours ...

I realized that my descision making become worse since it started to feel like in a movie or something ^^
hoever i am pretty sure i could go on for another 4-5h or something right now lolz

but its almost 4am here in germany and tomorrow is MMA

Well nevertheless it was a thrilling experience to play 7hours straight .
never thought i could do that.

also with rb and stuff it ended like + 58$ or something.

sick life

Burly by Robinson47, April 07

I been playing for my local pubs football team for a few months now, been going alright started on the bench cos im a fat fuck now i play centre midfield and fitness is on the up and i make the first team. This is from the other teams website who we played at the weekend and its a match review.

"It wasn’t long until the home side’s two goal cushion was restored, courtesy of an absolute screamer from Anton Arms’ burly central midfielder, a strike which the great Steven Gerrard would have been proud of! He won the ball in the centre circle and moved forward unchallenged until he was around 30 yards from goal, before unleashing a thunderbolt of a shot into the top right hand corner just as he was closed down. It was a truly stunning strike worthy of winning any game"

i thought the word burly basically just meant overweight, but i got a few definitions:

burly

adjective
muscular and heavily built; "a beefy wrestler"; "had a tall burly frame"; "clothing sizes for husky boys"; "a strapping boy of eighteen"; "'buirdly' is a Scottish term" [syn: beefy]

bur·ly (bûr'lē Pronunciation Key
adj. bur·li·er, bur·li·est
Heavy, strong, and muscular; husky. See Synonyms at muscular.

scored 3 games in a row now, and really enjoying the sunday football only downside is i go out on saturdays less so im not hungover on the sunday, but this in turns means i play more poker on the saturday night and take fishes money.

i *might* be through my slump that was.. really frustrating between dec15 to about.. march 20

ive been playing like hyper-iso style where i just focus on getting money involved pre when the likely action will result in me playing against people i have sufficient a) card advantage b) skill advantage c) positional advantage, if they are donkish enough i'm playing super loose, and if they are good i'm pretty much not making too many moves at all.

inspired by the balugawhale coaching tree series on dc. and edzwoo.

Nothing interesting by thewh00sel, April 07

At least not on the poker front. I've played a couple SCOOP events so far with no results, and am down a little bit overall on April but I'm not too worried about it because we finally signed some loan documents and should be finally getting a house.

I don't want to jinx it with pics, i.e i'm too lazy to find some of this house, but our offer was accepted and we did all the paperwork, and as long as something doesn't go wrong with the loan we should be closing on the house no later than the beginning of May. And although that will be cutting it kind of close with getting a pool installed before the WSOP starts, I couldn't care less as long as we can get into this place.

The best thing about this house is that it's a new construction so it comes with a 10 year warranty on anything failing which is the nuts. I am pretty happy that we found a nice non-bank owned property because that's a pretty rare find here in Vegas. It's located in the master planned community of Mountains Edge in the south western part of Las Vegas, about 20min from the Bellagio, a little less to the Rio. Should be a fun summer seeing some online friends who I haven't seen in a while or haven't ever met in person before. Alright, sorry for the lack of pics but I just kind of wanted to make a brief update blog on what's goin on in the life of wh00 since I know you all care so deeply about me ^_^

The room changed the rules by voodoouser, April 07

I registered to Carbon Poker mainly for rakeback but for the 'first deposit bonus' too.
I had to play 5 hours 4 tables at nl25 to unlock each 10$.
But they suddenly changed the rules one weak ago and now with their new system i have to play 30 hours 4 tables to 'win' the same amount which is 6 times more... that makes Carbonpoker the most hardest site to clear the deposit bonus (am i right?).
So at the moment i really wonder what am i doing on this unreliable room...
Unfortunately with poker rooms the only thing you can do is shutup and accept unfair things like that or leave.
In the "real world" frims can not modify the contract you've signed up for, small immoral tax haven firms can do whatever they want.
I now understand why people are playing on PS (like i used too) or FT.
They simply dont trick their users.
So bye bye carbon, back to PS.

Can you run better?? by Sebboss, April 07

Always more fun to write when you are doing good right? I don't know what's going on right now... I just can't lose. This must probably be one of the sickest heaters any poker player have experienced in the last year with the games being as though as they are. Hope this inspires some people to do good!

I guess a lot has to do with pretty good game selection and 30% being HU, which has greater variance. I think my constant focus on improving my winrate has benefited me a lot. Now it has come to the point where I don't wanna play anymore, because Im falling in love with my winrate too much and dont wanna ruin it . This leads me to only play really good games.

Since last post:

I blame my lack of result at 2/4 the latest 16000 hands on playing way too many tables and not paying any attention to the 2/4 games

Addiction? by ToT)MidiaN(, April 07

Hey guys. Been a while since last blog, figured now is an appropriate time to do so as I'm going through a few different things recently that I wanna talk a little bit about.

I got back in to playing poker about a week ago, when I first started I approached the game much differently than in the past. I played more passively, I called much more preflop, I 3bet much less, I tried to keep pots small, I reduced my bet sizing dramatically etc and it seemed to be working at first, as I made $4k in about 2k hands of $3/$6. However, things quickly started to go downhill and within the next 3k hands I found myself stuck about $4k since restarting poker. I wasn't able to effectively bluff when I wanted because the bets were too small to fold anyone off anything, but at the same time when I wanted value, I wasn't getting that much because my bets were small. People 3bet me more preflop, made more c/rs postflop because my bets were small and they either figured it was weak, or they needed to get more money in the pot with strong hands and in general I just felt much less in control of the flow of the game. I continued to lose money and hit a peak of about $-8k since restarting poker, for a total downswing of 13.333 buyins, which I hit today.

I think that experimenting with your game is invaluable and absolutely necessary to improve, however the style wasn't working out for me and today I went back to my old style, 3betting a shitton, betting much bigger, pissing people off etc. I felt much more in control, people seem more reluctant to bluff me because it costs them so much of their stack, they dunno what to do with medium strength hands because I'm making them commit so much money all the time, and it worked out much better, I feel like I'm controlling the way people are reacting to me a lot better, almost like how I used to back on Prima over a year ago where I crushed 5/10 for 8+ptbb/100 over 100k hands and multiple other limits for 5-7ptbb/100 over significant samples also. I really hope I can refind that success and am simply happy that I'm enjoying the game once more, if you don't enjoy it, don't think about what you're doing and just grind out hours day after day you won't improve as a player and you'll be depressed quite frequently.

The reason I stopped playing poker about 4 months ago was due to what I was talking about above. I was struggling to win, wasn't enjoying the game as much as I have in the past and had other things on my mind. Due to this disinterest I had to find something else to spend all this spare time on, and, probably for the worst I ended up playing a shitton of WoW. Here are 2 of my characters that I have been putting a fair bit of time into over the last 2 months or so:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Scilla&n=Pyretic
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Scilla&n=Departure

also, I have a level 74 warrior on a European server and a level 34 Paladin I started lately on the same server as the 2 characters above. Lately I've even became bored of WoW and that's probably why I'm playing more poker over the last week. It's a good thing, really, if I'm gonna waste a ton of time in front of my computer, it's a much better "waste" if it's spent (potentially) making money in poker than wasting away time "having fun" in WoW.

Speaking of computers, I got a new one 3 days ago, used Stars Concierge Service to get it, it cost about 3.5 million won which is approximately $2.65k. It's a beast and I want to sleep with it in my arms. I got a 25.5" monitor TV/Monitor/whatever with it, which is OK but I kinda wish I had my 30" Dell monitor that's currently sitting by itself in my room in England.

Not too much more to say I guess. I went to Artosis' birthday party yesterday along with lilsusie, nevergg, tasteless, PuertoRican and chilled out a bit. The poster "Uptown" on this site may be visiting me here in Korea at the end of this month so that should be cool, and I'm off travelling myself this Friday - hitting up Cebu, Phillipines. Probably gonna take some pictures and may make another blog post out of it. For now I'll leave you with a hand that I played today that made me feel good, when things like this happen, you know you are doing something right:

Submitted by :

I got him tilted so bad, he was at the point where he was calling every single 3bet I made, or if not calling then 4 betting and never folding post flop. Obviously I bet the river small to induce and it worked perfectly. There was another hand that was even more awesome imo, but I can't get it to show up properly when I link it from HEM's replayer T_T

Until next time, good luck!

cake poker can be so brutal by xx frankie, April 07

i can honestly say out of allll the poker sites that i have played on (ultimate bet, bodog, pokerroom, pokerstars, fulltilt, and cake) that cake poker is the woooooorst site ever. I dont think the gameplay or set up is bad but the players are hoooooooorrible and i swear the random hand generator HAS to be messed up. Im not one to talk about bad beats over and over and over but woooooooow the stuff i saw on that site is absolutely ridiculous.

Anyway i had .82 cents left on the site. I went on the .01/.02 tables and grinded out the .82 cents into 53 bucks so i thought screw it...ill do a 50 dollar heads up and try to double up real quick. I know its not good bankroll structure but o well. Anyway the donk im playing goes all in the first 4 hands in a row. I hate those games when im playing out of my bankroll structure cause it seems like they alllllllllways suck out.

so on the 5th hand i get a-k..i check knowing the guy is gonna push..and BAM hes all in..i instant call to see he has the almighty 2 -7 of clubs. Flop comes a-3-10. With one club. Then it happen, turn 4 of clubs and of course river 9 of clubs

bye bye 50 bucks

New Focus by k2o4, April 07

Well I've been overall frustrated with poker lately and I'd rather not tilt-spew away my BR because I force myself to play. So I've decided to change my focus around a bit. Right now I work a part time job where I'm helping develop a new website for a non-profit organization. I've been focusing on poker first and then doing the part time job with a kind of half arsed effort. But we're getting closer to a deadline and there's more cool work available to be done now as we've gotten further into the site, so I'm going to flip that around and prioritize my work on the site first and put poker second. And when I do play poker I'm going to focus on NL50 HU and studying/practicing for adjusting to live play so that I can take full advantage of my Vegas trip in June for the WSOP.

I figure I'll allow myself to do NL100 6max during the week if I'm really in the mood for it, and NL200 6max during the weekends if I'm strongly in the mood for it. But mainly I will do NL50 HU while watching prinnyraiding. I started a HU journey but then I began doing really well in 6max and had to ride that wave. It seems to be slowing down right now and a switch of focus on the type of poker seems to be in order.

I've been really stressed the past few weeks and I think it's cause of the frustrations of a lot of breakeven results. I think this will make poker more fun as I'm learning new things. Then I'll still feel like I'm achieving things even if I'm not making a lot of money via poker cause I'll be working hard on this site, and this is a site I'm extremely excited about. So this should be a good formula till the site is done.

Ahh, now I've got that good feeling that comes when you make a solid plan and get ready to put it into action =)
