jib-jab by ToTehEastSide, July 06

ha I signed in here with an intent to make a quick entry and then got sidetracked and forgot to do my original intent..
In talking with someone about the hilarity of that jibjab video I posted in the coffin thread, I was introduced to another one by the same people. Well to me, even tho it's a little late, this vid was so great that I was originally going to bump the coffin thread with it but now I figure it's better to just let a thread with obviously no real interest here die
so since I sometimes make my blogs for my own beneficial reasons inasmuch if not more than for yours, I will post this video here
take care all

[edit]
before you watch this know this video was made during the campaigning times of last year - cheers

Need Advice by Psychohawk, July 06

Sorry for the semi-long / spastic / poor grammar post but i need help!!!

Hey LP, I've been lurking here for a few months but have now chosen to make an account to seek advice. I have been playing poker for about 6 months now and currently play at Absolute Poker at NL50 and NL25 under the name Psychohawk(the first 3 months i played at fulltilt under the name zlaught in which i pretty much had no clue on how to play and just mass grinded ftp tournaments and then would mess around trying/wasting my money on different games), my bankroll has now fallen to around 800$ and am no longer able to play NL50. I normally play 15-20 tables FR (this site doesn't always have 20tables at nl25 for fr when i do play and recently have been breaking even or losing for about the past 3 weeks. I play 6max once in awhile but i seem to also just break even in that right now. Since summer has started I have been play 6-8 hours a day (before summer i didnt play much) and feel like I haven't gotten much better, if at all. What I'm wondering is what i should do now if i want to get better, Should i keep trying to multitable and move up limits or should i switch to 6max and play less tables, or should i switch to a different site and give sng's/tournaments a try (Right now this seems like the choice i feel like is best). I feel like i get my money in good and play well but since i have been breaking even the past 3 weeks i am obviously not doing either.

Uhhh some other questions/things-
1.should i be using poker programs? i have never used any and not sure if they help much
2.is absolute poker safe to play on? i watched some tv show and they talked about how like the head person on there scams people (which im not sure is true/ dont think happens at my limits but idk what do you guys think/know)
3.I currently have 2800 status points on Absolute poker which is way ahead of what i need atm to hit the highest rank of Diamond elite or w/e it is were you get the 9% interest thing, i can get this if i keep 20 tabling for the rest of the month, is this alone worth it to keep multitabling and breaking even there?
4.when watching johnnycosmos video from the lp vids thread on the site donkeytest, i took the test and got like 120 on everything and 143 on mtt, is this accurate and should i be playing mtt's/sng's or is it just another dumb test that doesnt mean anything.
5.oh yeah lastly,i found this site because i lurk TL and saw liquidpoker and checked it out one day. I used to play starcraft a lot under the names Zlaught/Abr/th[em] and some others(lol i like to change my name a lot ;/)

this is all i can think of now but im sure ill have a lot more questions but thanks in advance to anyone with some advice on what i should do

ME day 1C recap by I_run_godlike, July 06

my first table was very very tight, complete different dynamic than it was last year. but there's a semi-aggro monkey on my right who talks a lot and opens a lot of pot. Needless to say, he is one of the biggest contributors to my stack.

Nothing interesting in the first 3 lvls except for couple of hands..

Hand 1:

utg (pokerstar qualifier) limped, i limped behind w/ 77, btn limped, blinds complete at 100/200. flop 7 7 2. (sigh..i knew i wouldn't get any action)
It went checked around, turn Ts, put up str8 draw and flush draw, I decided to v-bet my nuts, bet 1/2 the pot and everyone folded. sigh..

Hand 2:

semi-lag monkey opens co to 700, folds to me in sb w/ AA, I made it 2800 to go (cuz we were 300bb deep), he instant calls (he doesn't fold to any 3bet at all)

flop 6 8s Ts

I decided to check instead of cbetting. he checks back

Turn Qd

I led out 4k and he calls

River Ac

I led out 8k ish and he says AK is good and folds...another sigh..

Hand 3:

I opened TT utg1 to 700 and folds to the monkey in sb who called.

Flop: Kc Jc 4

he c/c my 800 cbet and I decided to check it down for the rest of the streets..

Turn: T!!!!

he c/c again my 2/3 pot bet

river: 9...

he checked dark and after few mins of thought, there are too many QX hands in his flop and turn c/c range so I decided to check back. He turned over AQo....wow! I run hawt!

Hand 4:

utg1(tightish guy) opens to 875 at 150/300, monkey flats..folds to me in bb and saw AA again. Being oop and the monkey doesn't like to fold, I made a huge squeeze to 3875 and utg1 folds and monkey obv calls.

Flop: J85r, I checks again with intention of c/r the monkey, he checks back.

Turn Q...I bet he folds..

Then I got moved to a new table before the dinner break where Howard Lederer was sitting 4 to my right.

Won a pot with 2 pair and brought my stack to about 49k before the dinner break.

Came back from the dinner break and started to card dead for the entire level, and the guy on Howard's right who's been playing like a total noob, wearing PS gear, runs hotter than the sun, flopped higher flush against lower flush and got it in for 60k each....

guy to my left is a desperate shorty who keeps raising whenever folds to him. I picked up his tendency and decided to trap him whenever I have a hand I'm willing to go broke with him.

Finally picked up JJ utg at the last hand of the lvl4. I limped w/ intention of getting in against the desperate shorty.

folds to mp (another big stack) who limps behind and the noobish PS guy made it 3k to go at 150/300/25!!!!!!!...I seriously have no clue how to counteract this but to just flat call since we were (165bb deep). mp folds.

Flop (6975) T 2 3 r

I check/call his 4k bet..

Turn (14975) 9,

I check, with intention of folding to another bet, but the noobish guy bets a small amount 4k...I decided to call again cuz of the pot odds..

River (22975) 3..

I checked and he instant checks behind and I thought my JJ was good until he shows KK! wow...well played sir!

After that hand, my stack was down to 37k at the end of lvl4.

LvL5 was a complete card dead also, there would be ppl opening every hand and I literally didn't see any A or K in the entire lvl and had to keep folding and getting blinded/anted off.

At the end of day 1, I had 31650 left.

Going to be at Orange 80, seat 4 for the day 2. Hopefully I can run better and get some cards at 250/500 with 60bb stack. one time plz.

LONDON! by DustySwedeDude, July 06

So I'm like 95%+ sure I'll play Unibet Open unless I like die in a freak accident or the Police decides that I'm to much of a libertarian weirdo to get a new passport. If anyone is in London from the 16th and a few days after that I'd love to say hi or play something. Also, what's the easiest to get hold of monies there? Just bring like 2k£ in cash or can you get money from a VISA at the casino (Grosvenor Victoria Casino)?

Work & life by Chewits, July 06

Last September I started work for a Kitchen design company, full time. Kitchen design was just something I got into because of the jobs I had done before. I never loved it, but I didn't hate it, I thought it was ok, and could be good to make a career in. After some time working in this new job, I soon to begin to realize how bad the company was managed and how much of a mess it was in. Coming from a larger multi-outlet retailer to a local but large single outlet business, it was like going back in time 10 years ago. Because everything was really backwards. Nothing was computerized (except the actual designing of the kitchen software), all the accounts, orders and everything was on paper. And then there was the accounts. lol. I found this out after a few months, that apparently there was no accountant for the past year and a half, and the owners had been doing it. Now you might think there isn't much wrong with that, but when you realize that the two owners are complete idiots and only bought the business a few years ago and had no experience of running one, this was so bad.

It soon became apparent, that the business owed thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of pounds to other companies. Every week we (the designers) were told to use different suppliers, and were fobbed off with some bullshit excuse that quality wasn't good, when we all knew why. They owed them money. Then there was the customer service, that was non-existent from the owners. They simply did not care one bit about them. It really became so bad, that I found myself having to cover for them and constantly lying to customers when I knew full well the truth. But I was simply doing what I was told as an employee. However I hated it, and it was happening every day. I actually felt sick going into work, and dreaded it each night. It was then that I knew, things had to change.

I started applying for all these other shitty jobs, which I knew I wouldn't like, but it had to be better than where I was. It was then after about the 20th application sent off, that I realized why am I wasting my time with this. I had spent 3 years in college studying music technology, and it was the music industry, in some shape or form, that I wanted to get involved with. I never just got my ass into gear to pursue it. I started asking around, and perhaps the luckiest encounter happened.

Just two days after me explaining how my life was so shit to my girlfriend in my current job and how I wanted to get into the music industry, a fantastic thing happened. My girlfriends dad works for the council and does events and things, and had some connections with some companies. My girl had spoken to my dad the following day and asked if there was anything available. There was nothing at the moment. Then an old friend of his just dropped into the office. This friend was the owner of one of the largest P.A hire (live sound systems) companies in the UK. Wow? They had not talked in years and he wanted to catch up. So he mentioned that I was looking work, and he said to give him an e-mail to arrange something. So i obviously e-mailed him, and we arranged a meeting, and he was able to start me working. I quit my job in the shithole I was in before. And 2 days after I finished, they shut the doors and it went into administration. It was in the papers, that they owned over 200,000 pounds to companies and customers. It was really crazy.

So lately I have been doing freelance work for the production company. He couldn't give me a permanent job, but said he could give me work, but variable hours per week. It is what I have always wanted to do, and I have been loving it. The work is very hard. Hard work, long hours, and shitty pay. But it is really good fun. The only problem is that the amount of hours I have been getting has not been enough to live on. I had been playing alot of Poker in the spare time because of the odd hours, it actually suited me playing Poker. I am just not at a limit that I can withdraw from on a regular basis.

After several gigs, I get a call from him, asking me if I can work full time for him up untill mid August (going on holiday then), as a trial to see how I get on. I seriously couldn't believe it. I had only worked for about a month, and this was only a handful of gigs, I must have done something right!

So tomorrow I start full time with them. I am excited that maybe this will be a my start of the career I always wanted. I really love playing Poker too, but it is not stable enough at the moment for the limit I play on to live on. I am certainly going to still play alot, but probably not the same volume anymore.

I go away on Wednesday for 5 days, as I am working at a big festival in ireland - http://www.oxegen.ie/2009/ - We are doing 4 stages there so its gonna be pretty busy! I am really excited and at same time a little sad to be away from home for so long and miss the missus! I just hope it works out and I can get a permanent offer after this trial period.

This kind of messes up my plans to grind mass sngs, because I don't have the time to. So I will probably grind back at NL25. I have been playing last few days and I feel I am playing really nice. My non-showdown line is a nice steady positive line, and my showdown has been going down a bit. But looking back, I have lost alot of coolers at showdown, so I think I am just running bad in the big pots.

Well anyway, If you have came this far, I would like to thank you for reading

record session by remember87, July 06

The feeling I had yesterday continued today. I just feel I have an edge over most players at NL400! Today however was exceptional. No of the players I feel is better then me sat at the tables so I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

Not to brag but I pawned the tables today. It was like I saw everyones cards and I think I made the right decision in (almost) every pot. I VB really good, raised, bluffed, and made some nice folds too. The only pot I was behind AI in the session I managed to draw out (KKvAA in a big pot, the last bump up on the graph.) which is so typical when you are running really good. Ofc I was a bit lucky in some pots, and its lucky not to be outdrawned, and I know this cannot continue but I like the feeling while it lasts

[Q] moving up by Uptown, July 06

Wanted to ask a question about what you'd do in this situation.

Suppose you are going to move up to the next stake once you have 20bi's for it. Would you allow yourself to use rakeback/bonuses for it?

Just something I've been pondering...

Poll: Use rakeback and bonuses?
(Vote): yes

Thanks~

I got a disease by palak, July 06

Last week got diagnosed with Delayed sleep phase syndrome. Basically my natural clock is way off the normal clock so I sleep at fucked hours if left to my own devices...pretty much everyone has this at some point or another. Mine is just more permanent then most. Meaning I can't adjust myself easily to sleep during "normal" sleep hours and once I do adjust I have to maintain a constant wake up time 7 days a week or I will revert to my natural fucked sleep cycle. Now I have to do some fucked sleep calendar to get me on a normal schedule. Today I sleep from 9AM-5PM, tomorrow from 10:30AM-6:30PM, etc til I reach a 2AM-10AM schedule. Doctor also told me to get a job which "will allow me to work to my natural hours" I'm taking that as getting a doctors order to play poker for a living. In poker news up like 2 buyins on the month 1.5ptbb/100 >.< . Just got done w/ an epic 9 hour tilt session, only lost a buyin though so woot.

Reading on the sleep phase crap.

Session Review by LemOn[5thF], July 06

Today's session was a lot different. I ran into stationy/passive tables and I couldn't win through my red line anymore (although it was at 0 thanks to successfully 4bet bluffing regs twice)

Hand1: Shorties

43/5/1 30% bet turn fold to f cbet 64. 120 hands
These homies tilt me so much. Guess the best play if I cbet is to shove the turn myself here ?

Hand2:
TBH I am kinda lost here. Standard swoop of the dead money pre, but what to do on a flop like this after a donkbet made by a donk? (unknown)

hand3:
Original raiser was 8/8 over 80 hands, aggressive villain squeezing. 4Bet bigger/even shove?

Obvious Spews:
A) Can't explain why, maybe I thought he was raising a lot,but his stats were 16/14/2 /216 hands - a very dumb spot for a 3bet.

As I went to the hand I expected him to have a pair a ton here as he peels a lot of flops, hence the cbet and double barrel.
But he didn't have under pair at all lol

B)
42/2/21.
I came to the river with the intention of bet/folding. I simply can't get myself rid of these spews :/

blown opportunity by jasper5408, July 06

met the sickest calling station on pstars, and all it took was one suckout to throw me off my game. he was such a sick calling station, i mean i could honestly value bet A high in 3-bet pots. i pretty much 3 bet all hands against him for value, and we ended up 4 tabling.

all in all,

he coolered me alot, A flush vs K flush twice (and one was a bdoor flush draw)
set/set once
called me down with A high but his Q kicker was better than my A high J kicker

it was lots of fun 3 betting wide ranges, but it kinda sucked because i still feel like i shoulda won more monies. all in all i managed to about break even due to some thin v-betting from overpairs/top pairs/A-high's

anyway i felt like i learned a shitload today, and i've never thought so much about board texture as deeply as i thought today.

Grinding NL50 and the 4th by SpeedyJack, July 06

Been a few weeks since I've posted an update, thought I would do it sooner, but I always feel weird posting a blog after a heater or a bunch of coolers because it'll either come off so braggy or whiny that there is no point, so I prefer to post after variance has taken me a little both ways. Thus, I bring you my NL50 graph.

+ Show Spoiler +

Not too many hands yet, but that should change this month. I really felt like I was crushing it and then I had that downswing where I was doing everything the same, but getting crushed over and over. I'm fairly certain that it was 9/10 bad luck and 1/10 bad play, but I still want to eliminate that bad play so my good runs can be that much better. I've been doing pretty well since then, everything going fairly standardly.

I'm starting to flat a lot less pf (opting to fold instead) and opening some more marginal holdings that before I would have folded, I'm also 3betting a little bit more often in order to prepare my game for the higher levels. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter down here, but I hope to move up fairly quickly and I think the best way to facilitate that is to gear my game toward the level a couple higher than I'm at, I may be able to crush these stakes playing extremely straightforwardly, but when I move up I don't want to be the dumb nit reg who everyone can read perfectly, I want to be the guy that the other regs actively avoid sitting with, or at least to my right.

In nonpoker news I was up at my lakehouse in Wisconsin for the fourth, water skiing successfully for the first time was definitely the highlight. Had a great time, my aunt and uncle always have a party and there was plenty of beer, brats and burgers to go around, I think like 40 other people showed up plus my cousins and brother who were there. It was really crowded with 3 cousins and one of their friends, all 4 of them brought their SO, I didn't because I don't have one anymore, not quite as sad as it sounds. My brother was there with me though, so we were the fifth couple, and easily would have won chicken fights.

I've been working out most of the summer so far but really slacked off the last few weeks, so I'm going to hit July even harder than the second half of may/first half of June and try to hit new highs on the maxes and new lows on the scales. I've got a pretty rigorous routine planned, but I'll be doing most of it with my brother and working out is so much easier with a partner.

I also plan on playing 40k hands this month, I have been thinking about the idea of adding 2 tables to make it 6, but I only really think about it when I go for a while without any cards to play or I'm getting coolered KKvAA and I want to do that to someone else sooner, so it's probably unnecessary. I don't think I'll add tables until I either become a regular grinder at some limit because I'm cashing out somewhat often or I buy myself a setup with a nice big monitor which would have to include a desktop since I currently play on a laptop and my old desktop is pretty worthless for everything, that and I gave my monitor to my brother when I got a laptop. I don't think that will be anytime soon (eyes on this Christmas maybe).

Anyway, had a really fun fourth, I'm really looking forward to pushing myself both in and out of poker this July, may your cards be many and your reads be mighty.

swings at NL400 by remember87, July 05

I was about to post I felt so good about my whole journey so far at NL400. But the games are just so swingy at NL400

I have been staying at Dustylove for a couple of days now and we managed to put in a lot of grind to say the least. I beat a new record by playing over 6k hands in one day! So so far have I played more then 10k hands this month! I guess I will beat all my records for hands played this month.

However as far as results goes I am not very happy. I have played NL400 the whole month and it really feels that the games are tougher. I started of very quickly and won 5BI. Then the variance decided to go nuts (plus I played bad in some pots) so I lost 10BI in like 1k hands.
When I came back to the tables I felt I really had an edge over most of the players (not the toughest regulars but a lot of them) and I think I played well. I went up the 10BI I lost and there I was 15 min ago. But instead of quiting (as I planned to) I played a couple of more hands and lost like 7BI in no time (some coolers, some bad beats and some flips - most against really really bad fish which hurts even more).
So excluded RB etc I guess I´m down a bit more then 2BI which is a pretty bad result for so much grind.

What have I learned?
A lot of small stuff that will improve my game a lot. Most important though is that before, I saw most of the players as "good", playing a bit too careful against them as a saw them as better then me. After some input from Dusty however I see a lot of faults in most of them so now I view a lot of players as "bad". I just need to improve my game so I can take advantage of those errors!

Can I beat NL400?
I have tried once or twice before and failed, and variance is tuff, but I actually think I can beat NL400! If I can run good/not bad for a day or two, so I can get a role that can handle the swings, I am pretty shure I can pretty soon become a NL400 reg.
