donkey tested by Qyvs!, August 19

I obv am not writing my bachelor thesis on the impact of financial crisis on fannie mae... I did the donkey test cause I found it and was bored.

It tilted me so much when I saw the answers :

Like this question :

You're in the BB. Blinds are $1/$2 and everyone at the table has $50,000 in front of them. It is folded to the button, who raises to $7 but accidentally turns over his cards in the process.

You see that he holds:

http://www.donkeytest.com/images/card...ww.donkeytest.com/images/cards/Ac.gif

He knows that you saw his hole cards. He did not see your hand. What range of hands should you call with? Which hands should you re-raise with?

Fold all hands.
Call with any two cards, and re-raise with KK, QQ, and JJ.
Call with any pair or suited connector.
Call with any two cards, do not re-raise with anything.
Call with any two cards, and re-raise only with KK.
Call with any two cards, and re-raise only with AA.

The last answer is supposed to be correct which I find totally retarded. I'd just flat (alto it's not mentioned what SB did, obv. he would have called but I assume he folded cause he's not in the scenario .wtf???)

I'd just flat, probably C/R flop, put the guy AI at some point with AA and let him sweat and fold in the end being xxxxx BB deep.

Also this:

5/10 NL cash game. $1,000 stacks. 6 handed. You raise from UTG with:

http://www.donkeytest.com/images/card...ww.donkeytest.com/images/cards/Ts.gif

The big blind calls. He is a loose-aggressive player but has been check-folding to your flop bets during the last few rotations. Flop is:

http://www.donkeytest.com/images/card...ww.donkeytest.com/images/cards/Jc.gif

Is this a good flop for you? What should you do?

Good flop, bet
Bad flop, check
Good flop, check
Bad flop, bet

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.......... Well... it's not the best flop in the world, it isn't bad too. But it's rather bad than good. Now the thing is that the player is "loose-aggressive player" and for some particular reason he's c/folded to my flop bets (so is he LAG or not ?)

My logic is that he is gonna finally c/r... beacuse he's LAG, and beacuse the flop is good to do so. Nevertheless, betting is the correct move. AGAIN ?!?

So am I loose or tight ??? I guess I own everybody cause I just formed a style LAT - Loose aggressive tight ! The whole package !!! YAY

Poker video by mrpav.com, August 19

Hey everyone, got a little bored before I went camping a few days ago so I decided to make a video. I also have a cold from my AC in my house, so sorry if I make any rude noises. I might do an in depth voice over in a week or so since I could of explained thing better looking back at it now. Well anyways here's me playing some 50nl 6max 4 tabling, its a 6 part vid 10 min each. Watch it in full screen in HD, it's the best quality

Will post again with better commentary.

I refuse by ToTehEastSide, August 19

US Army Sergeant Travis Bishop, 26, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, was sentenced Friday to one year in prison after being convicted of going AWOL (Absent Without Leave) and disobeying lawful orders in connection with his refusal to be deployed to Afghanistan.

The sentencing of Sergeant Bishop follows closely on the heels of the conviction of Army Specialist Victor Agosto, 24, who was sentenced the previous week to 30 days in jail and demoted to private for his refusal to fight in Afghanistan on the grounds that the US occupation was immoral and unjust. Bishop and Agosto are both stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and share the same attorney, James Branum.

Bishop’s punishment proved to be more severe than Agosto’s. In addition to being sentenced to one year in prison and demoted from sergeant to private, Bishop will lose two-thirds of his pay for a full year and receive a bad conduct discharge from the military upon his release from prison. Branum has pledged to appeal the conviction.

Bishop’s doubts about his involvement in the military had been building for some time. In a statement released by Bishop in May, he describes returning home from Iraq, where he served for 14 months, to a hero’s welcome: “That was the first time I felt unsettled over what I had done overseas. My hand was shook, my back was patted, and every night my belly was burning, full of free alcohol. I was a veteran of a foreign war, hailed as a hero, and yet I felt ... unnerved, anxious.”

He went on to say, “I felt as if I had a big secret inside me that threatened to burst out of me at any moment, exposing what I really was to the rest of the world ... but I couldn’t figure out what the secret was. Not for a long, long time.”

Bishop describes no longer being able to understand why the US military was in Iraq. “Nothing sat right,” he said. The young sergeant turned toward religion in his crisis and began studying the Bible. He soon came to the conclusion that he could no longer place himself in a situation in which he could be ordered to kill another human being. When he was ordered to return to combat, this time to Afghanistan, Bishop decided not to go. He would file for Conscientious Objector status, going AWOL in order to do so.

Bishop maintains he was unaware of his right to apply for Conscientious Objector (CO) status until just days before his unit was set to deploy to Afghanistan. This assertion has been verified by Bishop’s commanding officer, Captain Christopher Hall, who testified that he had provided his soldiers with no information regarding CO status. Bishop, having discovered his rights too late to follow the standard CO procedure, made the decision to go AWOL for one week in order to prepare his application for CO status.

In a statement explaining his actions, Bishop said, “I left because I did not feel that I would have a sympathetic, understanding command structure to fully take my problems to, and also to give myself time to prepare for my CO application process, and the legal battle I’m currently fighting.” Following the completion of the application, Bishop turned himself in to authorities to answer for his absence from duty.

From the start, Bishop’s trial took on an anti-democratic character, with participants openly contemptuous toward the solider. One of the jurors fell asleep during the trial. Another repeatedly shook his head in disgust as Branum argued Bishop’s case.

Fort Hood chaplain Lt. Col. Ron Leininger testified against Bishop, asserting to the court that the sergeant’s religious convictions were not sincere enough to convince the chaplain to recommend him for CO status. The chaplain’s written report on Bishop contained errors, including calling Bishop by the wrong name. The chaplain told the court his interview with Bishop lasted for a period of 45 minutes. Challenging this claim, Bishop later told Truthout.org, “The Chaplain only spoke with me for 20 minutes, took two calls on his cell phone, and was texting the whole time.”

In his own defense, Bishop offered a statement to the court which reads, “[W]hat most Soldiers don’t realize is that CO is not only a regulation, it’s a right. To file for conscientious objector status is an individual right of every Soldier in the Army. This right ensures that Soldiers with the beliefs that I share have the opportunity to request to be discharged due to said beliefs. But, unlike other regulations in the military, this one remains unpublicized.”

Bishop’s statement discusses the military culture he struggles against. “Since day one of anyone’s career in the military,” says Bishop, “fierceness and bravado are pounded into every potential Soldier, and fear and doubt are viewed as weaknesses. This leaves Soldiers that feel as I feel in quite a predicament.

“Does a Soldier who feels as I feel tell someone in their Command? Or a peer? And risk persecution and ridicule? I have never heard the word ‘coward’ used more than when I say the words conscientious objector around a group of Soldiers.”

The rate of desertion in the US Army has risen 80 percent since the Iraq War began in 2003. Soldiers, many of them even younger than Bishop and Agosto, have been forced into bloody colonial wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, wars which have been associated with torture, rape, secret prison networks, the death of masses of Iraqis and an increasing number of Afghan civilians, and an assault on the most basic democratic rights. It is taking its toll, not only on the local populations, but on those rank and file soldiers who are engaged in its prosecution. Suicide rates among soldiers are at a record high. Large numbers of soldiers leave combat with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It is difficult to gauge the level of resistance to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan within the military, but it is safe to say Bishop and Agosto are far from alone in their sentiments. The Pentagon has chosen to make an example of Bishop, whose only “crime” has been to refuse to take part in an illegal war of aggression. His punishment is meant as a warning to any military personnel considering opposition.

Last few months by rossro, August 19

Haven't updated this blog in forever. This summer has been a whirlwind of university, partying, golfing and of course a lot of poker. God knows how many hands I have played these last few months probably 150k+. Decided that I should start playing HU in june and it has been going pretty well, managed to make like 10k CAD between june and the first couple weeks of july (Mix of 50nl/100nl 6max and 100nl HU). Had to hunker down for a few projects and finals towards the end of july (withdrew all my $$$ and banned myself to help me :D) and then proceeded to donk off somewhere around 2k @ 100nlhu at the beginning of august. Finally got my act together and redeposited last monday and have been on a hell of a run since then, I actually ran above expectation!! W

I start a full time co-op job on the 31st so that will definately cut into my poker time. Hurray for $18/hr CAD, but at least its tilt free money and will help me get some engineering experience. Also looking at finding a HU coach to help me work up through 1/2 & 2/4 so if any1 has suggestions or is a coach themselves feel free to let me know. Been looking at some of the coaches on DC like jsnipes or colmsum.

Here are the stats since last monday :D. Obv mostly bum hunting ....

Bob the Rebuilder: NL25 by LemOn[5thF], August 18

My Goals
NL25 done, it took me a week to double my roll at this limit. (Running hot is good :o)

I must say than I dodged my rule of cashing to 20 BI at a limit (If I lose 2BI AND I break my non-multitabling rule) by always first pwning a couple BI at 4 tables and then multi table once I get tired (4tabling is WAY harder then 9 tabling for me btw).

And As I set the stop loss rule for a day I managed to cheat myself this way. My spews obviously came during multitabling again, and I lost about 5 stacks where I shouldn't really. My red line also suffered by doing this, and I think its easily sustainable to have it just below 0 at NL25 and push standard winrate to 6bb/100 levels with decent tables.

A Hand
I will post interesting hands from NL25 later, just one from today
This is about the biggest rape I have been exposed to to date. 36/6/1 Turbonit Villain (with 10% WTSD and 40% Fold turn,) called, after I squeezed wide UTG/high fold to 3bet fold opener and him (who also folded to majority of 3bets)

I believe he folded every single time in situations like this before, even with much better hands.
I am always reluctant to really believe these people pay attention to table image, but this time I was wrong (I was fairly aggressive at the table). Dunno what it was, probably my timing tells and non call inviting bet sizing, but this dude completely raped me.

He had what I thought he might have, and I was 100% sure he would fold.

Pure pwnage, and I typed 'owned' to the chat myself, I was amazed somebody at micros could make such a read and actually alter their game.

My Game
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/2dd86.KEKE.png

As I try to play completely reactive style, the weekend brought my VPIP and PFR way below my 'standard'. Calling Stations all over the place is not a place for LAG, although today and yesterday I finally got to some nitty tables and could employ full blown 34/30 with 20% 3bets.

Also interesting is how my stats don't get too much tighter in early position, the reason was complete lack of light 3bettors - I could open AXs utg profitably all the time and sometimes I was opening even hands like JTo as I had tables with 4 nits and one fish (regs at NL25 don't adjust and just let you exploit the fish forever :o)

Also what I can see there is that I don't 3bet on the Button and CO enough, and thats something I have to work at before I get to NL100.

-I almost perfected my 3betting from the blinds against exploitable opponents, and I learned a new move -> 3bet into check/fold with junk against nits with superhigh fold to 3bet, on boards that are not super great for 3betting.
I always was cbetting without really thinking about their range, which is rarely folding non scary flops and even turns.

-I found a good spot to 4bet bluff only three times, and 3barrel bluff only twice.

-I also learned that it doesn't matter that you are getting 6:1, the fish simply don't minraise with Junk

-I tilted, but as I was only playing 4 tables when running bad those were microtilts and I quickly pulled myself together ( I lost a couple 89% Equity spots and got once pwned with 200bb stack with 80% Equity shove on flop (which instantly pwned my stop loss and I had to quit fo the day -,-))

Conclusion

I had fun at NL10 and NL25. It made me remember that no matter what limit you play, it is still the same game and every person is different and can't be completely generalised.
Sure, you can play a standard game aimed towards the limit standard players only using stats, but this will never let you get to the core of every individuals mistakes and won't let you completely own the game.

I wish I could remember this every single time I start playing more then 4 tables and stop paying attention to every single pot, and avoid the evil of multitabling.

I am back at my regular limit, and I have learned a good few things in the process (I watched entire micro stakes grinder series while 3 tabling ). Losing over 70% of my BR was painful, but I believe that because of the things I learned it might actually be +EV In the long run.

P.S. If you ask why I only made $500 when it takes $600 to go from 24BI at NL25 to 24BI at NL50, my answer is simple: I cheated by donking $100 in Supernova Freeroll.

But don't judge me you punk, as I know you cowardly add your rake back to your BR while I buy Phil Hellmuth books and other junk for it.

And so the Journey Begins by tsvjrl, August 18

Greetings, I have been a long time lurker of both the teamliquid.net and liquidpoker.net sites. I have decided that after recieving a no deposit bonus for mansion poker, I will attempt to make it as a winning player. I've already started about a month ago. So far I have done terrible, especially in sit n gos. I tried some double ups but mainly play full ring standards. The following pictures will show my progress. This blog will be where I will post my progress and hopefully be given tips to improve my play.

Graph in Big Blinds

The most recent BI loss was rockets faced against a rivered flush against a loose aggressive who happened to do it again except against my pocket kings. My sit and gos have been horrendus. The majority of my losses have come from hands like AQ vs pocket pairs and coin flips during the high blinds. The huge negative in the 2 dollars was from me attempting to move up in stakes twice.

I know I shouldn't be jumping from stake to stake which I apparently did when I went to a 25c/50c game which I was able to double up with pocket aces after getting bad beat and losing half my bankroll. I from then on decided to play within my bankroll but now that it has shot down really low, I've started to buy in to the 1c/2c games with 100 big blinds. The max buy ins for both the 1c/2c and 2c/4c were both 5 dollars so I opted for the latter but with my bankroll being a third of what it was, I've decided to multi-table 1c/2c full ring cash games with 100 big blinds as opposed to 250 big blinds.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

I Shook Obama's Hand by k2o4, August 18

And I jizzed in my pants...

hahahahahaha (said it before you could)

But yeah, I actually got to say hello. I can't remember exactly what I said but it was something like: "Mr. President, thank you for everything you're doing. You're doing a great job, keep it up." I was in the 2nd row during the speech so I was able to get up to the barrier as soon as it ended and so it was like being in a receiving line, except he walked it instead of us going to him.

Pictures:
+ Show Spoiler +

The town hall was on health care reform and before I went my view was that I agreed with Obama on the general philosophy of where to take health care reform, but I had no clue on the specifics. During the town hall he explained everything very well and I totally support what he's doing. I personally am the type of person that likes the UK and France and other European country models with a more universal health care system. Sadly that is not Obama's plan but I understand why he isn't doing it. Overall that's just impossible to get in the USA right now.

His approach is a very middle of the road one. I find it hard to believe that anyone other than extremists would be upset with this plan. And that's who is upset, the extremists on both sides. The far left uber liberals are all in an uproar cause they don't want anything less than a single payer system, while the far right uber conservatives hate any government involvement and overall just hate/fear Obama so therefore automatically hate anything he wants to do.

And the funny thing is that the news is only focusing on the BS rumors and lies of the "Death Panels" and the Public Option. That's it. And they're twisting both of those things to try and scare people. They use the death panels to scare people into thinking the government is gonna kill your grandparents, and they twist the public option and try to say that it is a government takeover of health care. Total bullshit. There are no death panels and the public option is just that, AN OPTION! Why have it? to help add competition to the market and bring down costs. Basic economics.

http://images.huffingtonpost.com/gen/99179/original.jpg

But there's lots of other good stuff in there, like removing these lifetime caps and banning insurance companies for discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions. There's a lot of things he's doing that will help protect those of us with private health insurance and lower our rates. But no one knows about that due to the media focusing on the drama and the extremists on both sides.

I really hope that this passes because this bill is full of important things that we need ASAP. It isn't perfect but it's a great first step. And once it passes we can work on improving health care even more. But if it fails no politician will be willing to touch health care for a long time because it will be political suicide. This is far too important to let it fail.

birthday, vegas, etc. by RICHI8, August 18

Hadn't touched poker until today since the 10th so my August goals are really slacking. Hopefully I can still get my BR to $1k and take shots at NL50 by month end, but who knows, I've played about 4.5k hands this month most of which I've ran like crap and have been set up a ton of times. But life goes on.

Anyway, August 14th was my 22nd bday and two of my best friends and I made our way up to Vegas from San Diego. I've been really stressed out and annoyed with work lately so this trip was just meant to relax and get my mind off of work. We didn't go balls out party style this time since relaxation was the main focus. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. Every day consisted of lounging by the pool at our hotel (Monte Carlo) and having some drinks and laughs. I meant to get a massage while I was there but in the drunkness I completely forgot to.

A friend we grew up with back in NY moved to Vegas and happens to work as a door man at Xs so he hooked us up greatly. We went there on Friday and he just walked us right in. You should have seen the faces on the assholes standing in the table reservations lines as three young looking shit heads waltz right by them. Priceless. Xs is really, really nice inside and Friday night was great. A couple of my other friends had a table there so we met up with them. Their bottles got finished pretty quickly and they had a room at Encore so we left the club and went back to the room to do some shots up there and then came back to the club. My friend Mark also had a ton of coke but I couldn't do any because I'm becoming a police officer. I wouldn't do it anyway, I was super drunk and I read a story about a couple drunk kids doing coke and dying so that's scarred me for life.

We ended up being in the club from ~10pm til after 5am lol The place supposedly closes at 4 but that night it was still going around 5:30 I'd imagine.

Saturday started with more pool lounging. We met a couple hot Canadian girls from Vancouver. We were supposed to go to Pure with them at night so we all go back to our rooms and get ready to go. We get down to the lobby and all of a sudden some random guys come up and ask them if they want to go in the limo with them. Obviously, they being girls, how can they resist. They tell us they'll meet us at the club but my friends and I start thinking it would be a waste of time. Turns out the one girl gave me a call when she got to Pure but we came up with a different plan...

We figured if we went to Pure the wait would be stupid long and sometimes Pure can be very hit or miss and we didn't really wanna run into those girls again if they were just gonna whore themselves out for limo rides, drinks, etc. So we call our buddy up again and went back over to Xs and went right back in again.

Xs on Saturday night wasn't as good as Friday. There were waaaaay too many people packed inside there and at least 80% of them were Asian people who thought they were members of that MTV show America's Best Dance Crew. Also getting drinks was like a solid 20 minute wait. They have 3 or 4 bars inside of the club with about 3-4 female bartenders at each bar. These female bartenders move soooooooooooo slow it was ridiculous. Still had fun regardless just not as much on Friday.

Overall a very enjoyable and relaxing trip. I completely disconnected myself from just about everyone except the people I was there with. I rarely carried my phone on me and even when I did I only had it inside the club in case I lost my friends. Felt nice to just get away.

Now that I'm back time to keep on getting in shape and playing and improving at poker. I took my police test so I'm awaiting the results for that. I'm going to try and not drink for a month so we'll see how that goes. I'm trying to run a lot and waking up and doing push ups, sit ups, etc. I won't be going to the gym because right now I just want to improve my body weight exercises. I've also got into surfing which is a good work out too. At the same time of all this and work I want to be more focused on poker and get to NL100 by year end. Gogo nerd mode!

new housemixes by rockman255, August 18

[if the embed code doesnt work try refreshing or something, it seems to hit or miss for me, im not sure why ><, or go to my lamesauce artist page at http://www.mydjspace.net/rockman255 to get the exact same thing i copied out.]

..im putting this at the top of anyone even reads it who doesnt like house, but for the record, i also listen to alot of 90s alternative rock, 80s rock, some 90s gangster rap, and several different like.. indie rock bands that are kinda underground. (and play the drums quite reasonably well with a very minor ability to play guitar) so don't label me !

ideally my mixes would be for someone who doesn't want to take the time to find tracks for themselves but likes some housey music once in a while, and they can check my track names and go find the ones they like

i joined some music hosting website but it kinda sucks, lol. i'm going to see if i can embed the player into this blog, and ill put separate links to each of the track listings, apparently if you want to download them you have to go to the individual links at the bottom of this page and rate them and then it allows you to download, or some shit. which is gay.

anyway, i know most people just arent into music in general, and definitely not niche music. i dont really consider myself an expert or anything, but to put it into perspective i pretty much have at least quickly sampled through something like 10,000 different tracks in varying genres of "house" (which seems to be the accepted phrase to represent all of electronic dance music[electro, progressive, trance, minimal] these days, back in the day i thought that phrase would be electronica), and over the past two years i put together something like 20 compilations of on average like 14 tracks, so its not like i just randomly put a bunch of songs together.

i try pretty hard to make the mixes somewhat cohesive, matching up styles and sounds and i think i literally retooled the july mix like 15 times between may and july.

im kind of a perfectionist, but i think i have to realize that i have to kinda stop somewhere and work on the next new thing.

july is 60 minutes, mostly just very light poppy electro house, and some mellow progressive at the end

august is 79 minutes, the first 8 tracks are a little harder electro tracks and the remaining 7 tracks are melancholy trance, it doesnt really transition well , but i was enjoying these musics recently :o

for tracklistings go to http://www.mydjspace.net/mix/view/id_1177/ for the july one and http://www.mydjspace.net/mix/view/id_1186/ for the august one

oh. and by the way, poker is fucking retarded today.

on the month, i am +3200 for like 2ptbb and +5600 for like 3.5ptbb on ev, so basically it means i play so horribly bad that my winrate can cut in half by variance, imo. heres todays graph.

Live > Online? by Masaki, August 18

Had a conversation with my friend SDoyle over msn. He told me a story of a hand he recently played live limit hold’em at a casino. I found it rather amusing.

SDoyle said (Yesterday at 10:39 PM):
There was one really funny hand with the three guys from Quebec. I had been laying a beating on one of them all night and rally punishing him. Finally he made a straight to draw out on me, it was obvious he made his straight and he checked. I went to reach for my chips, then said to him. NOPE, you’re about to check-raise me. He went nuts, couldn’t believe it, and kept going on about how I was betting all night with the winning hand and the one time he made a hand I knew he was gonna check-raise me. At that point I said to him the Helmuth line, and that I could see into his sole”. Other players at the table recognised the helmuth line and laughed. He and his buddies just shook their heads.

Masaki – Working said (Yesterday at 10:56 PM): LOL thats awesome

Had a pretty good day today. Got two second places in two small $11 tournies and a first in a small $33 tourny.

I’m going to be playing less tournies and focus more on the ones I’ve been doing well in. Yesterday was bloody because I entered way too many tournaments and played some big majors… Oops! LOL I wouldn’t be saying oops if i won any of them though.

Vegas in a week PLANNN by Qyvs!, August 18

The plan

Altough I believe it's better to have a plan, in case of Vegas the best plan would be not having one - cause I've no clue what to expect. The only thing I prepared is 120 pages of poker room decriptions from the web so during my flight I'll try to put them in order which to visit first.

I will be flying over on wednesday late night which is the 26th and on the 27th I'd like to buy laptop ( shops, or recommended model? ). Mine broke down and I'm sad And I will probably be sleeping after 24-hour travel, and if not I'll be making pictures and maybe play some.

On Friday the 28th my friend Natalie is coming over to Las Vegas to meet me, along with 2 female friends. Also, my friend Kelsey from Arizona will be coming over for the weekend as well with some friends hopefully. It will be nice to start Vegas adventure in a pimp style So ... pool, eat, cirque du soleil, eat, drink, fuck, sleep, repeat for 3 days

Since they booked Flamingo I'll stay there for 5 nights. I got some package for which I paid like 60$/night on avarage from Wed-Mon. I guess I'll extend my stay in Flamingo until Thursday and throughout Mon-Thu I'll be looking for some other hotel/place to stay. The price are picking up a bit starting early September and during the weekend it's like 150-200$ a night in 3star hotels @ strip. I'll try to ask poker room managers for some rate - I'll be playing 1/3->2/5 and 5/10 if I will be feeling comfortable.

FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

The only thing that sux is that I'll have to be studying 2 hours a day ROFLFUCKCOPTER... I signed up for CFA exam level 1. The good thing is that I am motivated to pass it beacause... I don't have any choice. Here's why:

CFA exam is for finance students and it consists of 3 separate levels.

Level 1 can be passed during december, and june.
Level 2 can be passed during june only
Level 3 june only as well

So... I need to pass it in december, and then take 2nd level in june next year. Otherwise I'll be doing it 3 years MINIMUM if I will be passing them every time. I'm gonna look like a dumb fuck studying @ the pool, or pherhaps in a buffet but w/e. I'll check Nevada State University library if it's available and maybe I'll just grind once a week.

Suck out

I crashed on my bicycle today and my arm, leg and head hurt so fkig much I can't fall asleep b/c of the pain. Skin on my elbow and knee looks like it wasn't there ever. Thankfully I didn't break anything cause it would have been a cooler lol
