Laptop Purchase? by k_law, October 24

Guys need some advice. Looking to buy a new laptop and not sure which direction to go. Ive used windows computers for a while but im thinking of making the transition to a Macbook. I know PT is tough to run on there but I despise all the anti-virus crap that windows computers forces you to install. However, if it is the right laptop I will consider grabbing one. Any thoughts or ideas are warranted. Thanks guys.

Starting over. by deahttubb, October 24

I started this month with the goal of playing a good amount of hands and moving up to NL 25. I got bored and decided to move up before i had the number of buy ins that i wanted. At first it went well but that quickly changed.

I now plan on starting back at NL 5 and I want to play around 10,000 hands with discipline to see if I really should be playing cards.

If any other micro players want to exchange MSNs and discuss hands or other poker stuff send me a PM.

It's weird but I'm almost happy this happened. I am now going to play only the games I am rolled for, only play when I really want to and I want to get some real progress, not just play to get my FTP bonus and Iron Man for the month.

SO hopefully I will be back up at NL 25 at the end of next month.

I also have a $26 token from FTP and was wondering what tournaments are generally the best/softest to play.

Thanks.

nice run on rebuilding from scratch... by whamm!, October 24

Withdrew most my roll to retrace steps coz i wasnt winning anything at all already. so far 25nl has been pretty easy, cant wait to move back up to 50nl for about 20k hands before moving up to 100nl again and tweak my game, bluff more with polarized shit, grow some balls postflop etc. I thin I'll be back in no time if i continue playing well and playign less and less tables and bad times of day where there are really less fish.
Put most my roll into stocks to follow tokeweed's path which he says is pretty much easier and more relaxed than poker, not as profitable though but no regs and he gets to enjoy life much more now after quitting poker for stock trading. gl me

nl10: fourth encounter by killmepl, October 24

I have another nl10 session on Friday.
First 1,5h I played 4 tables of nl10 but I was very stressed so switched two tables down to nl5 and it was good decision.
Nl5 is limit which I know, and two tables of it gave me confidence on nl10.
For like ~500 hands I was -30 and when I started two table nl10 in the end I was +30.
My best hand was:

I flat 3b because SB guy is a nit and with his range I'm either crushed or flipping. Guy on BB was calling station and I wanted to keep him in the pot.

I call the flop because I wanted him to keep betting with 99+ or AQ, with another AK I chop, so this calling-station guy will give me profit.
On turn it is the end 257BB pot was mine.

From this hand my session turned from shit to pretty good.

Current br:231

Stay Tuned and have nice weekend.

Grindin hours ? by Eluflop, October 24

Sup guys,
How many hours do you think is the best to grind lets say 6-8 tables straight with out taking a break???

For me it seems that I can play the best about the first 2-3 h straight. It feels that after 3h i'm definetly not playing my A game any more.
Then a break and more 2-3 h of that solid grinding that we all love to do =).
I am talking about Cash game btw.

Opinions ??? comments ???

Poker everywhere by edzwoo, October 24

Teaching it

Haven't blogged in a while. Lately I've been busy doing business stuff and working on the poker club at my school. If you're a new player you can check out some of the content here: http://www.illinipokerclub.com/meetings.html

I'm advocating the people to play like 9/6 lol. I know it works though because my friend is at NL25 and closing in on NL50 playing REALLY nitty and not getting out of line.

The club has been going well; we're getting say 25-50 people coming out to the meetings to learn how to be a huge nit and win pennies at NL2. It was hilarious because it got to a point where I would point to the screen with an overpair:

"What do we do with this hand?"
"BET FULL POT!"
"Why do we do that?"
"TO MAKE MONEY!"
"Why don't we bet smaller?"
"BECAUSE WE WANT MORE MONEY!" *people high fiving each other*

Beware guys, there are new NL2 regs coming to tear the place up. I'm training an army of nits here. Don't worry though, they've got a long way before they make the games any harder.

I'm going to be starting a small group sort of thing for those that are interested in the club where I meet up with them and basically just help them with their game. I think I'm qualified to do this since it'll be mostly NL2 people . It's great getting to meet a lot of new people, and I really love talking about poker. You can probably tell cause I'm always trying to throw in my 2 cents on the forums.

Playing it

Anyway, I still haven't been playing poker seriously at all (last blog post I only wanted to unlock a 1k bonus which I did), but I started dabbling a bit in HU because I've been a bit bored. This is like 1400 hands of NL50 and 400 hands of NL100.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/b86c4.huwhee.png

rofl 30+ptbb/100 run good at both limits. Such an insignificant sample size but even so, people are TERRIBLE at HU. I feel like I have a ridiculous overwhelming edge and I don't even really understand HU very well... but I think that's just because there's an overwhelming number of fish at small stakes HU. You could probably suck and still be a pretty big winner.

One thing I noticed is that it's really easy to tilt at HU. Not like, psycho crazy tilt (although that certainly happens), but you lose 5 pots in a row to a fish and it irks you and suddenly you make a button raise with like 62o vs someone that calls too much without realizing it, or a bad river call with a weak pair when the guy always has you beat. Ever since I got to NL100 FR, I've always thought I had really good tilt control, but I feel like it's 10x easier to get thrown off your game in HU than it is in FR. I'm going to assume those of you that play HU would agree because I find it really rare that someone actually monkey spew tilts multiple buy-ins at FR, but in HU it seems to be a common occurrence from all of the hands I've played lifetime. My guess is that if you're somewhat capable at playing HU, but have EXTREMELY good tilt control and don't get thrown off your game, you can easily crush most people that are better than you simply because they'll spew and you won't.

Thinking about it

I really love thinking about various lines and what people are generally repping when they take it. For example, vs any standard passive player, it's clear c/c --> c/r is the nuts. I think there was a statistic on 2+2 linked from HEM that every time the line was taken, the player saw showdown 99% of the time and had two pair or better 80% of the time.

One thing I've been thinking about lately is 3betting. I think 3betting for value really sucks, and when you play against nits your 3betting range should be KK+/air. First of all, their stack off ranges are always QQ+,AK (sometimes not even) so getting it in with QQ and AK is usually just slightly profitable. Of course, this range applies mostly to FR, but even in 6max I think most nits will have a stackoff range of JJ+,AK. Of course we have to take into account their calling range as well, so if the person is never folding to a 3bet then by all do so. Note, this is only against regs or competent players. I think not 3betting a hand like AJ for value against a fish is criminal.

But I think a hand like AK is GREAT to just flat with, in or OOP. The blockers don't come into play just pre, but post as well. You can expect to win someone's cbet very often if you c/r almost any flop with AK, added FE because of blockers against KK+, and hitting your A or K is often a clean out. And it's just so easy to play this way.

A hand like QQ has great value in a singe raised pot because you're just CRUSHING someone's range in a single raised pot.

I think KK and AA have too much value in stacking off and crushing QQ and AK, so I would rarely ever flat with those hands.

The main issue I have with 3betting though is that some people are horrible post-flop (bad regs/fish), so in a sense any hand you play against them they have severe reverse implied odds for even playing a hand against you. If I knew someone was stacking off 100bbs on any flop and would call me down with any pair, I would never 3bet AK because there's no point. I would just be giving him an extra 10-14 bbs the times I miss, and the end result is I risk 10-14bbs to stack him whereas I could have risked 3-4bbs to stack him for the exact same 100bbs. Obviously there's way more to it than that but the general gist is if you're way better at postflop than someone else, 3betting often turns most bad people into fit/fold/spaz as opposed to call/call/call.

Selling it

As I've said before, I'm working on an eCommerce store selling poker chips and tables. The site is at www.chipsntables.com (hasn't been worked on yet!). I've been doing tons of research about SEO and junk, and have put some money down on resources to help me out. I also have a legal business name and bla bla bla. Anyway, I have an account with a poker supply wholesaler, so if anyone wants to buy poker chips or tables (you can check out what I carry at trademarkpoker.com) I can hook you up. I can also do customized/hot stamps for chips . Also, if you're looking to buy chips and stuff and aren't really sure what you want, you can ask me and I'll help you out with that.

Pretty nice to blog about my life a little.

BTW little humor, I got owned pretty bad in this thread: http://www.liquidpoker.net/poker-forum/810145/liquidpoker_tournaments...html

Gotta read Ket's post to understand it.

PC Blackout by vegable, October 24

Hey guys.

So Earlier this week I was feeling sleepy and accidentally hit hibernate before going to bed. I figure it would be too much of a hassle to wait for the damn thing to power up and power down properly, so instead I held the power button down in hibernation mode.

Bad move.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/6f8be.1252810497282.jpg

apparently when you hibernate, your pc takes a snapshot of your computer's activities which takes hard drive memory or something, and hitting the power button locked it all up. My comp could not get to the desktop and I was forced to take the laptop to a repair shop.

apparently I got a "bad hard drive" and was forced to buy a new one from them. I have to say that those clever chinese dudes are good at not speaky english when I ask technical questions, but great about highlighting shit like "we put in new anti virus software, got your music/pictures, recovered some data that seemed to have been LOST FOREVaRRRR!" but I did not get to revive my treasured personal documents and hand histories which was MOST important to me. I can't help but feel that I got played and felt so helpless against it lol. Did I get played yo?

So I lost everything and will spend a day recovering my shit. I last backed up my comp in March. So guys, back up your comp right after leaving a reply :D
