Is FR for me? by k4ir0s, January 27

It seems like 95% of successful FR players play atleast 12 tables at once. I usually play 9-12, I really dont enjoy playing more than that. I seem to tilt more often when I have 10+ tables open and I find it pretty hard to take notes when I have like 11 tables open.

I win at 3bb/100 @ nl100 FR. Im really not sure what to do right now, It feels like im at a big disadvantage not being able to multi table well. Its depressing seeing all those guys who play 24 tables no problem and sustain a 2bb/100 winrates. idk what to do, i'd appreciate some advice

btw are there many FR players @ nl200+ who only play like 9-11 tables?

Hrm. by halflinggenius, January 26

My day:

Had a presentation at work today, I think it went well. I presented some research that I did like a year ago but took until about a week ago to get published.

Hands:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/793578 - $30.45 - Don't know what I'm doing here. However, this guy had played back at me every single time I raised (like 6 times before this hand, no other history) so I felt like I had enough of a hand to make a stand. After I make the flop call I think I'm committed to getting it in on turn, especially after I turn the heart.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/793574 - $6.00 - Getting more comfortable stealing pots from obvious drawing hands.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/793571 - $25.02 - Possibly bad play by me, but I think I had the pot odds to draw against two obvious made straights. Didn't expect villian to have 3 blockers though.

Results:

480 hands
+$1.07

Summary:

Didn't play much hands, didn't really feel like playing. That big hand I played where I let a subjective read affect objective judgement kind of let me know I should stop. Despite all of this, still ended up. Could have ended up even more. Oh and I got a decent amount of VPP, silverstar here I come!

A New Set Of Rules by Mariuslol, January 26

I'm always up for new things when it comes to poker. So thought I'd give this a try =] (At least a couple of sessions and see how it feels.)

The idea is that after every session, I have to look at these rules, and evaluate how well I did on each point. I think I'll rate with 1,0 - 10,0 where:

1,0 - 3,0 = Really bad, tilting, spewing, not stopping, everything horrible you can think of.

3,1 - 5,0 = Low end is pretty bad, spewy, a little tilty, unfocused, and to top range is autopilot, doing other stuff, not paying attention just klicking.

5,1 - 7,0 = Average bad reg is at low end, just doing ok'ish things, not getting stellar reads doing anything special, top end is making good notes, trying to catch myself each time i lose focus and refocus, not doing other stuff while playing, trying to be aware all the time so forth.

7,1 - 10,0 = From playing really well to playing your absolute A+ Game, edge of your seat, noticing tendencies, valuebetting like a god, being in "The Zone" playing the best I can with the skills I have.

The rules

* How well you played overall

* Quality of your thinking

* Quality of decisions

* Number and size of Mistakes

* Quality of focus ("The Zone", autopilot, distractions, boredom.)

* Length of the time spent focused and playing well

* Length of the session

* Ability to manage emotions, focus and thinking

* Ability to work through a tough mental or emotional spot.

I know that some of these you can't really rate, but I'll rate the one I can. =]

Oh well, fun food for though nonetheless.

Stuck at NL10 for now by XDsCrazy, January 26

Well ive been reading/following blog and post on liquid poker for a while, and today I decided to join the community so why not start a little blog myself !

Some info about me, Ive been putting time into poker for the past 3 months, readin/looking at video and of course playing some hands !

Started with a 50$ BR and grindin/learning the game since the.

I went trought NL2 and NL5 rather quickly and ive been a winner (really small one but still a winner) at NL10over 60k hands sample.

my BB/100 is around 1 tho so im not crushing the limit at all.

I'll keep this blog updated while I move trought the limit and I wish you guys the best of luck at the tables !

Can't stop by halflinggenius, January 25

My day:

By popular demand, I will attempt to detail some intriguing tales of my life if there are any during the day.

Roommate started playing The Sims 3 at 11pm yesterday, I slept at around 1:30am, got woken up at 2am, 4am, and 7:30am and he was playing Sims each time I woke up. I left for work at 10am and he's still playing Sims. I come back from work at 5pm and he's simulating.

No idea if he slept or not, he's too absorbed in his game for me to find out.

Hands:

Sick heater continues.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/793201 - $7.75 - I can't really fold to the raise on the river. Might be a bad idea to 2 barrel a short stack but it seems profitable since people will fold 99% of the time.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/793199 - $21.30 - Basically the best flop ever for me and the guy liked his 3 pair / straight draw, luckily for me.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/793177 - $0.82 - I'm a 62% favorite in this 3 way all-in on the flop, and the 5% to win gets his 1 outer on the river to nab main pot. Then again the king does help me win side pot so I can't complain too much... Moral of story, top pair + draws is very strong against people showing AA/KK strength preflop.

Results:

1224 hands
+$32.12

Summary:

This seems way too easy, am I just extremely lucky?

Introduction by Spicy, January 25

Hello there LP,

I am a former StarCraft player has been playing poker seriously since last July. I picked up poker mainly to see how well I could do and also as a source of supplementary income as a college student (I actually don't plan on cashing out until I graduate unless I immediately NEED the money). By no means do I consider myself a serious grinder but my passion to improve in the game is genuine. I do not have any personal attachment/need of the money in my poker account so am not afraid to lose it for the purpose of learning. I've lurked on LP for quite some time and I thought I'd start a blog to keep track of my progress as well as have a place to record my thoughts.

About Me:
I attend university at USC(freshman) and through playing for our CSL team have met two awesome members of the liquid community LosingID8 and Day9. I'm majoring in Business Administration and am doing well in my studies right now (huge priority over poker). However, this semester is going to be rather easy and I think I can put in a good amount of hands. I'm very comfortable just 4 tabling normal and 2 tabling rush poker and am not planning to ever mass table/robot.

My poker progress:
Started playing SNGs on FTP starting from $120 roll in November of 2008. FTed some $1-$3 tournaments and proceeded to piss a ton of money at 10nl. My roll at that point ended at about $100 and I decided to quit for a while. About six months later, after getting back from a trip to China, I picked up the game again at 5nl FR in July. In August, I switched to 6max for 10nl and built my roll to about $300. After fall semester began, I took a break from hold'em and played a ton of limit stud8 games starting from .5/.10 up to 2/4 and some thousands of hands at 10/25 plo games. Diving into the different games has helped me build my roll to about $900 and has benefited my overall thought process + approach to online poker. I've been playing 25nl since mid-January and my roll currently stands at 1.1k.

My primitive thoughts on the commonly perceived "games are going to be impossible to beat":
Paralleling any sort of major competitive game, poker has gone through evolutions of game play. If we look at how StarCraft has progressed, there have been many times when a certain person/strategy was dominating the scene and left no hope for other gamers. The first thing that comes to mind is the period of sAviOr's dominance and the claims of ZvP imbalance. He had just destroyed Protoss's last hope Nal_rA in the MSL semifinals and was in a position to ezroll Bisu for the gold. What happened? Bisu took an innovative approach to the game and developed a sair/DT strategy that sAviOr could not possibly have expected/practiced against. The same can apply to poker. No longer are the games as easy as the old party poker days, but that only means that the player pool is shifting towards a different type of player (regs who have a solid foundations of how to play tag/lag). The importance of the redline at the mid-high stakes is becoming ever more important, which means that in order to survive you must adapt and have better redlines than the competition while still balancing the blueline. It is in the hands of each individual player to better themselves and develop plays and strategies that can counter the popularized "standard plays."

This concludes my introduction for the LP community and I hope you all accept me with open arms.
If anyone would like to befriend me/become a poker buddy feel free to PM me so we can exchange messenger info.

24 tabling 6max brag! by longple, January 25

spoiler alert spoiler alert

+ Show Spoiler +

24 tabling 6max PS last 3 days
+ Show Spoiler +

So i started out the 10th january for the supernova chase w the goal to play 100NL only.

Started out playing Fullring, god its been so tilting..
Fullring made me crazy, and i played breakeven FR for 100k hands, only gaining 30k VPP's, took me about 75 hours..

See graph below:
+ Show Spoiler +

4 days ago i had a gay -20BI FR session and i was so tilted i decided to shut down this stupid supernova challange.

The next day i started playing 6 tables of shorthanded again and it went great, so i though lets try 14 tabling, it went even better. so i tryed out 24 tables pretty fast, and have been playing that these last 3 days "fulltime".

I earn ALOT more VPP/hour, and 6max feels so much more like a homefield compared to stupid FR.

Im now at 40 000VPP, gaining almost 200VPP/hour more playing SH compared to FR
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/18c4cf1e2b42f4961f1200119e3e7a4f.jpg

Im almost halfway, im not to happy with only 2k in earnings for so many hours, and only being +2k due to a sick SH heater the last 3 days, i run like sick good. its sick really..

And had BE results at FR over 100k hands feels kinda fishy, but w/e, im not a 24 tabler for realz

In on phase, actually 2 days ahead of my schedual.

I will prolly continue playing SH until i go on a big downswing cuz of the nice 600ish VPP/hour playing them, it will only take me 100 more hours getting supernova

And playing 8-10 hours/day that is less then 2 weeks, so. its close now!

After i get supernova i will continue with the 200NL improve my game jadda jadda jadda shots.

But we will see, ull never know, maybe i will end up going for the 200k VPP milestone/FPP bonus right after i clear supernova ^^

or maybe go for a 100NL supernova elite maniac?

We will see! : - )

thanks for reading and gl!
