this is a concept i have been battling with ever since i started trying to play poker profitably. i played about 130K hands at 10NL and i found out the best way to beat these low limit steaks is to simply value bet big when you have it, and cbet small and bluff small when you do not. it is very ez to win playing face up at these steaks (no squeezing, no trying to outplay IP, ect)
i have moved up to 25NL a few nights ago. here are a few hands that i think may be borderline spew.
this first one i think is played fine. im showing this too illustrate my understanding of equity.

in this hand i know my villian can have any PP (his pf action call, call lets me know this), or really 2 spades with the call on the flop.
i bet the flop with the intent of shoving a non space, ace , king turn. is this correct thinking? or should i check/call and check/fold a non spade, ace , king river? im pretty positive that the turn shuv was correct.

this hand i 3 bet my JJ OOP to his late raise hoping for value or a call and dry flop fold from him.. if i flop the overpair i am willing to get it allin. can his flop raise/call be spades or a 10 enuff for me to get value? im sure he has other PP's and stupid shit lots of times to make up for it. he is not full stacked which makes me beleive he is a fish. so i shove these players all day in similer situations. correct?

this hand is somewhat smiler but more difficult because he has me covered and i fear a raise. i also dont want to check becuase it seems very weak and i dont want to be bumped off the best hand. id rather bet, there is more equity in it. the reason i bet the flop is to tax the hearts and value smaller PP's who will call here multiway. the turn bet is as well to tax a heart draw and a strait draw. also to get value from PP smaller than i or mybe a weaker 10. when the jack comes on the river im almost positive that he does not have a jack so i go for a value bet.
this is more of a logic question here about betting for value. am i trying to bet to thin? should these be check calls? should these be played differently? thx for the opinions.
January was somewhat swingy with several short but brutal downswings hitting me as I added more and more NL400 volume. In the end, it turned out to be a good month though. I stopped playing ring games on FTP almost completely because, besides being rigged, FTP simply cannot compete with the new Stars rewards system. Just straight up points to concierge at regular Supernova at 6-max Stars comes out to 31% of MGR. Since the actual rake I pay tends to be quite a bit lower than MGR, my actual rakeback is quite a bit higher. On top of that, you add Stellar Rewards and Milestone bonuses along with other minor stuff such as deposit bonuses etc. and you are looking at something that is way way better than the 27% rakeback on FTP. Iron Man adds a tiny bit, but nothing really significant unless you play A TON on FTP alone.
In addition to my cash winnings online, I also won some during my two trips to the local casino as well as a couple of tournament cashes. Along with rakeback, the month came out to just over $10k, making it a good start to the year.
The goal for this month is to keep working on increasing volume while transitioning to playing almost exclusively NL400. I also need to get on the schedule where I swim at least 6 times a week and do drylands at least 3. Our practices start at 5:30am on weekdays, so it's easy to get out of the groove and miss a few if I do not maintain a fairly strict schedule. It is said that it takes 3 weeks to develop a habit, which is just under the length of February. So by the end of February, I want to have my workout schedule down. My goal is to be in top shape for Masters Swimming Nationals at the end of summer. Half a year is a good amount of time to prepare, but I need to start now.
Trying 45/90/180 mans for a change...by Fujikura, February 02
So I decided to try my luck at some of these 45/90/180 mans on stars, and am kind of liking my results. No doubt I am running good, but considering I know absolutely nothing about these games, I'm kind of happy with the results so far. I've been 30-50 tabling them, and kind of making some bad decisions in tough spots, but overall I am happy with results, and got some help from a few LPers about strategies and such. Here's a graph of the last few days where I run hot like fire. http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/5803/overally.jpg
And here's a pic of my last session which was an insane luckbox lol. http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/2395/jajajaps.jpg
All in all, I will try to grind out a bunch of these this month and see what kind of ROI I can achieve. If anybody has any general advice for these kind of games, I'd appreciate it. As always, good luck LP!

currently i'm experimenting with Sit and Go's. Once upon a time that's where i started out. It's fun to revisit the games. It's amazing how much higher i'm able to play them now just from my experience with HU cash and SH cash. Even when you get better at a completely different form of poker it still helps out a ton it seems.
I'm enjoying a lot of different formats. Results are pretty good so far (knock on wood). Though going back and forth through formats sometimes hurt me. For example mixing Double or Nothings with 6max SNGs is pretty hard. Hyper Turbo's are also a ton of fun.
i have also been busy writing for the dutch site of love2poker.com and recently i wrote my first strategy article for the site. I originally wrote it in Dutch but i made a translation:
so far the volume this year is really soso. With my current skills and life obligations i cannot ever make SNE but i will hit a few milestones. so i'm happy stars upped the lower milestone bonusses.
good luck to all of you and let me know what you think of the article.
Purchased these headsphones today ($80). I called up the company and said SHIP IT, they said "yes sir". The previous sentence is false, I ordered online. Went with wireless so I can get up and and piss while still enjoying the sounds of chips moving around. I can also walk around the house when im playin some random tournies and I can hear the alerts tellin me its time to act. PLus, i hate wires. On an unrelated note, i can also poop and listen to my TV/Music if i so choose.
I usually have the TV on in the background when I play even tho I dont watch it. Im gonna start listening to music while I play. I wanna start grinding hard and im hoping these things will motivate me.
Random things:
-Saw book of Eli, good shit
-Played the million takedown and the 1/4 mill yesterday, cashed both for a combined 150ishh. Thats a shit ton of money so I made sure not to spend it all in one place (see above)
-I weighed myself this morning, I stand at a wimpy 164 pounds. I got the flu about 6 weeks about and just continued to be sick for about a month. Before that I weighed 175. I got 3 months to gain 20lbs, easy.
Time to start over cuz I sucks hord.
Jealous of January success stories, HMPH!
Sucks to be a rakeback ho.
Fuck my writing intensive class, I have to read like 6 novels by the end of the semester.
Gawd fuck reading novels...
oh btw,
Is anyone else thinking about buying the Godiva Chocolates from PS for their significant other/GF ???
just bought a new 50 inch plasma panasonic full HD TV for about ~1800$
so epic, im gonna watch soooooooooooooooo many bluray movies from comp->TV through hdmi
im so happy, like the first time i actually bought something for myself from my pokerwinnings..
ive lived off it for about 1 year now, but paying bills and paying rent of it isnt very funny..
next i just need to fix some nice sound too! im so excited about my new appartment :D will take some pics later, its getting quite nice now 1 month since i moved in :-)
Hey guys,
i just decided to start blogging here after lurking around for some months and posting from time to time in the low stakes forum. First of all i guess it's good to introduce myself to you.
I'm 20 years old and living in beautiful switzerland I'm studying medicine and swimming a lot to keep myself in shape. I just had my exams last week so i can finally put some real effort into poker. I started playing NL2 on stars like 3 months ago with a deposit of 50$. Meanwhile i'm playing NL10 and just took some shots at NL25 (it really is unbeatable ).
Well, what else can i say ? I guess my biggest leaks right now are being to aggressive with TPGK and not being able to fold straights/sets if they are obviously no longer goodand maybe i'm chasing flushdraws too much. But hell, what do i know, I'm just a bit tilted after losing 4 BI's at NL25 with set over set and a suckout !
guess thats it. gl to all of you !
P.S. on NL2-Nl10 i had a more or less breakeven redline and was winning at about 6bb/100 but since i started playing NL25 (about 8k hands) my redline is skyrocketing but i'm losing money at a rate of almost 6bb/100 since my showdowns are total crap i didnt change my game unless betting a bit bigger (2/3 pot instead 1/2 pot) if the board is somehow wet and i have like TP. Can this have such an influence? or am i over-analysing ? or not enough? damn, i just shut up now and get back at the tables
Decide not to waste space on Lowstake forum. by hiems, February 01
Yeah. I can't just be flooding threads with my ramblings for review purposes. So i decided to kinda copy mariuslol and write any notes I have that I would like to hear feedback from in my blog. Of course, any interesting hands I think are thread worthy or that I really want feedback on I will just post of course.
But if I can get feedback on stuff in my blog, thatd be awesome too.
I think a big part of poker is reviewing your hands effectively // ranging based on reads. The two are inter-related I think. Problem is I have for many reasons, taken half assed approach to hand review. And so this is my attempt to work on that part of poker.
This hand is a hypothetical one from a thread i was reading...But I wanted to try to work on ranging it nonetheless for the reasons mentioned.
6 Max game, you are on the button. MP raises and you 3bet. He calls. 100bb stacks.
Lets say he is a 20/18 player that has a fold to 3bet of like 60%
Flop comes KT4 dd.
He checks. You bet 2/3. He calls.
Turn - Bet is better than check I am assuming? I would assume this because he can't have all too many Kings here, and theres probably more draws than made hands. Its just that I can't be compeletely confident because I am not sure what his 3bet calling range is here. How often does he show up with KJs and KTs here? What about offsuit? Do you put 44 in his range?
How many suited connectors // Ax suited type of hands can he have. I thought a decent estimate be a 56s - QJs and A5s-AJs... But what frequency do you think is an accurate estimate to apply to these type of hands? 50%? 25%?
And over a large sample, What type of fold to 3bet% would indicate he calls with suited one gappers?
Draws : 56s-QJs, A5s-AJs
Small Pairs : 55-99
TP : AK(How often??), KQ, KJs
Monsters : KTs, TT, 44, AK
In terms of the turn play...Lets say your reads on the opponent were that he seems the be aggressive with his strong draws, passive with his weaker ones.
you dont have any reads on how he plays his monsters vs TP type of hands.
Of his draws, how strong of a draw do you assume the opponent check/raises the flop with versus hands that he flat calls?
Do you assume he check raises with KQ, AK, KTs, TT, 44 the flop close to 100%? If this is read dependent, what type of read do you look for to know how this works?
Anyway I guess the moral of the story is bet turn is better than check turn cause his monsters and Kings are few and he can have JJ, and a ton of draws.
this month has been pretty good. made about 2200 from playing nl25 and nl50. would post a graph but i stopped using pt3 and started using holdem manager recently so the graphs are kind of small samples. anywayz hope to boost the profit up higher in feb.
