Lame trainwreck blog by Night2o1, March 23

I self excluded for a couple of days on FTP, I didn't tilt any money off (directly, atleast).

Fucking hell, this is so bad.

I really feel like thailand is killing me for some reason. The air, or the bad sleep(it sounds like a silly complaint, but my bed +pillows are very hard and I wake up throughout the night from my arm or leg falling asleep and being extremely uncomfortable, etc.), or maybe there's something else in the environment. I always have bags under my eyes and I feel tired all day nearly every day. (I can only 'pray' a fixable health problem is the root of my worse-than-ever poker performance lately, lol).

I am enjoying seeing my new friends and everything else about experiencing thailand.

I might need some Zoloft or something for a couple of months until I can get my head back together. Dunno what to do about that, or if its really needed.. or if it'll even help. I guess I will decide at the end of the month after I try to cool off and have been grinding for a couple of days again. I will do research..

I guess I will make a to-do list
1. buy soft bed cover
2. buy pillows
3...

o wait I'm flat fucking broke, nevermind.

Obsessed. Ban me pls. by hiems, March 22

Okay so the week and a half or so have been crazy poker wise. I feel like I think about the game alot differently. And its an awesome feeling.

I have one real life friend that plays poker. He only plays heads up sit and gos. I think he is a really strong player. Value bets extremely well, thinks in terms of ranges, adjusts super quickly. He went on a run-bad while moving up the 22s so he got really pissed and quit poker, but I am trying to get him back in the game for various reasons.

Anyway I played him heads up at a $2 sit and go with 5-6 rematches just to play for fun, and WOW heads up really really teaches you alot. And its SUPER fun. You dont have to wait a million years for an intersting spot. Esp against an aggressive player. My initiative of playing "Hudless" will now just be playing my friend heads up hudless very often.

But the downside of the past couple of weeks is that I am now obsessed with poker. Its all I can really think about. I try to get caught up with work but I can't stop thinking poker. And its my last semester of college and I have to graduate.

So I'm officially going to request a ban from LiquidPoker.net until April 14th. Arbitray date I just picked out. Im gonna just grind out ALOT of studying so I can get caught up in my classes.

Starcraft2 Key by Tycho, March 22

Bleh, so I kind of missed the Invite-a-friend-round of the keys, which sucks!

Anyone still has a SC II key lying around waiting to sell it or something?

No idea at what price these things market, I'll transfer 100$ on Stars to someone reputable.

EDIT: SOLD

Thanks

healthcare passed! by k2o4, March 22

Obama sent this email:

For the first time in our nation's history, Congress has passed comprehensive health care reform. America waited a hundred years and fought for decades to reach this moment. Tonight, thanks to you, we are finally here.

Consider the staggering scope of what you have just accomplished:

Because of you, every American will finally be guaranteed high quality, affordable health care coverage.

Every American will be covered under the toughest patient protections in history. Arbitrary premium hikes, insurance cancellations, and discrimination against pre-existing conditions will now be gone forever.

And we'll finally start reducing the cost of care -- creating millions of jobs, preventing families and businesses from plunging into bankruptcy, and removing over a trillion dollars of debt from the backs of our children.

But the victory that matters most tonight goes beyond the laws and far past the numbers.

It is the peace of mind enjoyed by every American, no longer one injury or illness away from catastrophe.

It is the workers and entrepreneurs who are now freed to pursue their slice of the American dream without fear of losing coverage or facing a crippling bill.

And it is the immeasurable joy of families in every part of this great nation, living happier, healthier lives together because they can finally receive the vital care they need.

This is what change looks like.

My gratitude tonight is profound. I am thankful for those in past generations whose heroic efforts brought this great goal within reach for our times. I am thankful for the members of Congress whose months of effort and brave votes made it possible to take this final step. But most of all, I am thankful for you.

This day is not the end of this journey. Much hard work remains, and we have a solemn responsibility to do it right. But we can face that work together with the confidence of those who have moved mountains.

Our journey began three years ago, driven by a shared belief that fundamental change is indeed still possible. We have worked hard together every day since to deliver on that belief.

We have shared moments of tremendous hope, and we've faced setbacks and doubt. We have all been forced to ask if our politics had simply become too polarized and too short-sighted to meet the pressing challenges of our time. This struggle became a test of whether the American people could still rally together when the cause was right -- and actually create the change we believe in.

Tonight, thanks to your mighty efforts, the answer is indisputable: Yes we can.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

APPT Manila TR by PanoRaMa, March 22

APPT Manila TR (I lost day 1, btw).

Set alarm for 10:30 AM, and ensure I'll get at least 8 hours of sleep the night before. At 9:30 AM theres some construction literally the floor right above me and all I can hear is hammering and sawing. Whatever that's fine, I prepare myself and wait in the lobby for a shuttle that's supposed to take me to the venue. The shuttle doesn't arrive until 12:30 (although it was scheduled for 12), and the event starts at 1. No problem, we get there right around 12:55. Then we begin the registration process. God, for a tournament that has a million dollar guarantee you'd think they'd hire people with at least half a brain. Registration process for maybe at max 50 people somehow takes 30 minutes because they had no idea how to streamline this into a logical process. I finally sit, 30 minutes after the tourney started.

Seat 1 is a high stakes nit, the rest of the table are giant donks, so I'm happy. I realize I haven't eaten anything the entire day so I start asking for servers to get me some food. This was at 12:30.

Throughout the tourney some donk in Seat 3 just runs amazing. He's like this 50 year old Philipino dude who looks like a nastier version of Humberto Brenes. I bet his picture will show up on pokerstarsblog or somewhere because he's probably going to win the entire thing given how he's running. He was literally calling Seat 1's utg open (which is AQ/AK at the bottom of that range) with 42o in UTG+2, flopping 442 and taking a ton of chips off of what must have been KK/AA for Winfred. He'd c/c c/c AKxx boards with TT and river the T and c/r. He'd bet out bottom pair 6-way on an Ace high board and make trips on the turn. He was literally smashing every flop.

Throughout this I'm not doing that well. At the start of the first break I'm around 22k after I induce some donk to bluff into me but I can't get hands for the most part. It's 3:00 at this point and I still haven't eaten. The 5 servers I told "HEY, come to me next I'm going to order some food" never came. I get TT in UTG+1 and iso UTG, some silent japanese guy who never once uttered a word. Huge luckbox calls, and this Japanese dude limp/reraises to like 5k and he only had 15k to begin with. My raise was only to like 600 (its 100/200/25 at this point), wtf?? So I obviously have no plan to try to flip for 80bbs so I fold. Later on, he limps SB vs my BB, I raise it up with K6o and he calls. Flop is Q43r and I bet like 40% pot and he c/rs literally like 6x my betsize. I really wanted to make a play but who knows wtf he could have, so I folded (the only real counter against this is to actually just make a hand and let him hang himself).

Finally at 3:30 pm I finally get a waiter to help me out. I order some stupid continental breakfast. 30 minutes later he comes back and tells me they're out of those. I sigh and re-order. I end up getting my new order of spaghetti at 4:30 pm.

Before I can even finish my plate of spaghetti, my knockout hand happens: Old donk opens MP, Silent Japanese guy flats SB, I'm in BB with AsQs I decide to squeeze here and not call, I'm at around 40-50bb and I'm perfectly happy getting this in against Japanese dude and would've folded if the old donk 4bet me. Either way, it's HU to the flop with Japanese guy calling my raise oop. Flop Qc 5s 3d, and this was the first time all tourney I had actually flopped a pair. I bet 40% to induce another stupid ass c/r, but he calls. Turn 7x, he chk, I bet small again, finally he raises. At this point he has enough for roughly a 80% pot size jam on the river. I decide the board is way too dry for him to really call off anything here, so I tank (hollywood) call. River is the Ax, completely rainbow board. He jams, and at this point I only lose to a set. If he has a set, I have the only hand that even pays this off. Seriously, if he has like 33/55 here, I really don't know what he's expecting to get called by. But I digress, since I was SNAP calling his stupid ass anyway. I call and he shows 77, fuck my life.

I leave the venue and take a taxi back to my hotel. It's 5 PM and the peak of Manila weekday traffic. What must have honestly been a 10 mile drive took nearly an hour.

Naturally I am now in a pretty miserable mood - that I once again failed expectations of myself, my backers, etc. I have 4 more days here and I don't know what to do because my hotel is so far away from everything and it's dangerous at night and everyone wants to take my money one way or another.

Overall, I hate Manila, and I am never coming back. It's not being results oriented either; even if I won, I definitely wouldn't come back even if they freerolled me into the next one. It's an overcrowded, dirty city wherein random security guards have to pack ARs and big ass shotguns. I'll be staying away from live tournaments for a while, at least until WSOP or after WSOP.

Progress/The Poker Blueprint by superfashion, March 22

After the cooler I wrote about in my last blog, I decided to take some time away from poker to clean my head. I ended up heading back to the same charity game last night and ended up ~$300 in just under 3 hours of nl200, which isn't bad imo. It feels good to profit from a game I know I can crush when I'm playing well. As for online, I'm up ~110 since Tuesday at NL10 in what I'd guess to be about 2500-3000 hands (it's hard to guess because PTR is so bad at tracking profit/hands and I don't currently run a HUD). Maybe it's a mild heater but I feel like I'm playing a lot better after taking some time off...making a lot of calls that I wouldn't normally make and profiting pretty well from them. I feel that playing live has helped my game a lot in the sense that when I'm online I think I'm playing like I have something to prove, whereas live I'm genuinely concerned about the amount of money I have on the table and force myself to play much better. This has really opened my eyes to how I am playing and I am playing far more profitably than ever before. I also attribute some of this success to the application of some ideas from various CardRunners videos as well as Aaron Davis and Tri Nguyen's "The Poker Blueprint."

A few weeks ago I wrote that I'd be reviewing "The Poker Blueprint." I have just finished the book and am cleaning up my notes before writing my review. I hope to cover a lot of the subjects of the book that I felt were very helpful as well as some that were a little bit confusing. With that in mind, I really enjoyed the book and feel like I have gotten more from Aaron and Tri's book than most, if not all, other books that I have read. I hope to have my review posted sometime within the next few days.

Thanks for reading and GL at the tables LP!

Friends getting engaged by Night2o1, March 22

An ex-gf who is a good friend of mine just got engaged. It is really weird to think about.

I guess I'm at the age in life where people around me will begin the first cycle of marrying.

Getting old I suppose.

My ears! Haylp! by LikeASet, March 21

Yo guys. Quick question.

My ears have been feelin clogged (mostly my left ear) for the past week or 2. It's not that they are infected, I just think there's hella wax in them even though I'm not too bad when it comes to diving into the ears with q-tips.

Do you guys think Kaiser has quick appointments for helping people with this kind of problem? Or is there some kind of do it yourself kit? Anyone ever had the same problem?

fuuuuu

Oh I remember a doctor taking wax out of my ears when I was a kid, so maybe....

Heroes of Newerth by collegesucks, March 21

ok i played this game for about a week straight with rare breaks in between. i have no exp whatsoever with dota so i started out with no stats games and then played some official games, randomed a hero every time to get a feel for the game, read the guides, watched games from honcast and basically... i'm sick and tired of feeding, failing, and having no clue whatsoever in general lol.

would anybody be willing to be my buddy and help a fellow lper get started properly? it's such a shame asking for this because i noticed an inordinate amount of hatred toward new players in this game. so much so that i myself have a ridiculously hard time not bashing on someone who seems worse than i am. but i mean.. lpers stick together, right?

ps. damn you bemannerpenner for sending me a beta key this shit is addicting
