i love this post sooo freakin much im going to copy it to my blog so i dont lose it. i always wondered how language has an affect on the way people think, and bring it up from time to time but no one seems to fuckin care.

I was doing a paper on East Asians languages and number systems. I thought some of the ‘non-Asians’ would find my paper interesting since we all know 'Asians' are good at maths. Right? I’ll rewrite my paper in the most simplest form, in math~.
East Asian languages have a logical numeric pattern. Using this pattern East Asian children subconsciously learn how to do basic arithmetic when they are learning how to count.
Let's look at the English number system
Twelve = 12
An English child has to associate the word 'twelve' with a value '12'. Not only that the child has to associate words with value from one to twenty.
Let's look at the East Asian number system
十 = 10
二 = 2
十二 = 12
An East Asian child associates 十 with 10 and 二 with 2.
An East Asian child says the word 十 (10) first followed by the word 二 (2) thus making the word 十二 (12)
Through just saying the word 十二, the child learns basic addition. 十 + 二 = 十二 i.e. 10 + 2 = 12
When an English child has learned how to count to 20, An East Asian child has learned concept of adding two numbers together.
Of course when an English child learns twenty-one
The English child will start to understand the concept of addition.
Twenty = 20
One = 1
Twenty-One = Twenty + One i.e. 20 + 1
However, by this time an East Asian child has already learned basic multiplication
二 = 2
十 = 10
一 = 1
An East Asian child says the word 二 (2) followed by the word 十 (10) then followed by the word 一 (1) thus making the word 二十一 (21).
In order say 21, the child must understand the basic concept of Arabic numerals.
* 2 followed by 10 is now 20 But why?
* 20 followed by 1 = 21 Because of the previous rule of adding two numbers
The child subconsciously figures out 2 followed by 10 means the numbers are base 10.
i.e. 2 x 10 = 20
20 + 1 = 21
So 二十一 (21):
二 (2) follow by 十 (10)
二 (2) x 十 (10) = 二十
And using the previous rule 二十 (20) + 一 (1) = 二十一 (21)
When does an English child learn this new concept? When they reach one hundred.
One hundred = 1 x 100
Two hundred = 2 x 100
Two hundred One = 2 x 100 + 1
Once the English number system reaches one hundred, it uses the same "wording" as the East Asian number system.
Now look at the stage of the development
Infancy – Basic Counting
Preschool – upto 20
Early Schooling – counts up to 100
An English child has little to no concept of Arabic until public school, while an Asian Child has already understood that the Arabic number system uses base 10 number system.
What is more interesting is concept of substraction.
Going back to previous example of twelve. An English child does not understand the concept of base 10 system. This means an English child only looks at twelve as 12 not 10 + 2. If you ask the child to take away 2 from 12, the child is likely to count his fingers, and realise that he only has 10 fingers. If the child was somehow gifted and visualised 12 objects and removed two from it, it still does not change the fact the child has no concept of the 10 base number system. The English child has to be told that ‘twelve’ minus ‘two’ is ‘ten’ (The words ten and two are hard to associate with twelve since it’s a different “word”. What is even more frustrating ~ tw- is in front of the word, not at the back).
If the same question was to be asked towards an East Asian child, either the child will figure out that the answer is 10 by dissecting the word 十二 (十二 - 二 = 十 or after the answer is given, s/he will figure out that they can dissect the word 十二 into 十 and 二.
So in order for an English Child to have the same mathematical reasoning skill as an East Asian child, when the East Asian Child learns to count to 11 the English Child must learn how to count to 21 and when the East Asian child learns to count to 21 the English Child must learn to count to 101.
So what does this all mean? It’s quite simple; East Asians are not natural mathematicians. Or rather a fault in the English language creates a barrier for English speakers from learning mathematical reasoning at early age.
Do not be discouraged because there are other people who seem to be better than you at math. Just put that extra effort into it. You could beat them because they may not be as smart as you think they are~
Its not that easy. The first one got quiet a bit of space in teh freezer. Second comes with food in it. Third one has fridge magnets, and magnets are fun! Fourth one is not even a fridge, but there is somethign about it that intrigues me.
Started the day pretty fantastic. Had Dennis Phillips on my table and a bunch of fish and managed to pick up about 15k in the first 30 minutes before getting set->quads over set by some random. Table broke a few minutes after and got put at a table with Antonio Esfandiari to my left, along with 2 other good online players to his left. Had to tightened up a lot but was just running pretty terrible. Ended up shipping 99 with about 31bb @ 200/400 50 ante level and got snapped by this laggy fish and lost to AJs.
Sorry to disappoint everyone
GL to anyone still left in the main
Loook at my range my range is amazing ...by Mortensen88, July 07

Not really suire about blinds was thinking of playing quite tight like 20% from sb but loose from bb like 45% what do you think?
Not sure about calling ranges at all I'm just going to stick to calling range according to the opening range according to position, maybe I will call more suited connectors to utg raise if I feel like calling... also raising more broadways to weaker players and limopers
also thanks guys for the advice on playing these stakes lol just not barreling much anymore and its things are going better also not calling with ax or suited connectors as much anymore valuing broadways more now

So i've been playing the 100nl non-rush tables lately and am still not winning. Summer so far: http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/9929/summerp.jpg
Not really sure what happened but its pretty frustrating. Really big downswing buy-in wise so i'm sure its more than just variance. Anyone want to exchange some sweat sessions?
Thats right! We've been going out for a little over 4 years, and I asked my gf Amanda to marry me yesturday and she said Yes! I'm one happy guy! Wedding date is October 2011.
So I've decided that I'll buy a bunch of new films this weekend. I don't do hookers and blow so some small vice in the form of a retarded DVD-shopaholicness is ok. I want some tips on films so just bring it. As reference I'll post a list of the films I've decided to search for to begin with:
Die You Zombie Bastards!
A Serious Man
Jennifer's body
Femalien
Vampyres
kamikaze girls
St. John of Las Vegas
The men who stare at goats
St. John of Las Vegas
A Serious Man
In Bruges
A Scanner Darkly
Sell the dead
Breathless
SLackers
The boat that rocked
The Dead Undead
Airheads
Hotel Chevalier
Red Dawn
The man from earth
Mindhunters
Movies that I've seen and liked a lot lately includes:
Funny People
Shutter Island
The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans
Taken
Rocknrolla
I found Sherlock Holmes and The Spirit less satisfying.
How do you know how much you have with the RB and such ?
Never got a single penny from whatever rakeback promotion i got. There must be something wrong... T_T
halp.
Recently registed on noiQ within lp.net rakeback. But i'm not sure what poker screen name means. Is that our registered account on their site OR the name it is shown on the poker table ?
I put in my name shown on the poker tables. Hopefully it'll get updated because the rakeback's page show 0 but i guess i should give it time ?
Last blog I talked about starting PLO and so far it's been going really well in terms of results. I've quickly moved up from $0.10/$0.25 to $1/$2 so far, winning at a nice winrate, although I've been running super hot at $1/$2 obviously. The game is really complex though and I'm still not very confident in my play despite the results thus far. One reason that I know my game is still very weak is because MiPwnYa keeps owning me and instantly sits in to play me HU whenever I join a new table and he's online, I feel like he may have added me to some buddy list as I've already spewed like $1k to him which is like 5 buyins at $0.50/$1 and 2.5 at $1/$2 despite winning a $1k pot at $1/$2 vs him. ! I'm getting better though and am sure I will continue to do so, hopefully I'm already good enough to beat $1/$2 and can continue learning and building my bankroll back up from there.
Here are stats so far:

Sidenote: One thing I love about PLO is how many VPPs you make, I'm not even close to Supernova and we're halfway through the year but it's definitely possible for me to get there if I'm playing $1/$2 PLO or above, even if I don't play that many hands a month.
On another note, I'm leaving Korea on August 17th. I'm going to be staying in New Jersey for a month, during my stay I'll be hanging out with the gf and her friends, many of whom I've already met when they visited Korea. I'm also going to be taking a trip out to Toronto to meet some nerds that we both know from World of Warcraft. Naturally I'm looking forward to sampling many "bad" (good) American foods, I', expect to put on a lot of weight and potentially have a heart attack, so let's hope I run good and don't die. Just before I leave, on September 8th, I'm gonna celebrate my birthday, so far I don't have any plans on what I'm going to be on that day, but I'm not planning on getting too hungover as I'm going to see Katatonia and Swallow the Sun in New York the following day. A few days after that I'm going to be returning to England "for good", where I'll go back to live with my family. I'm looking to buy a house with my parents and go 50/50 on it, so they've been looking around at houses and they like this one:
Whether we move into this house or some other house I'm planning on making the garage a home gym so I can work out without the need to go to a gym because I'm simply to lazy to travel there each day, particularly since the gym is like 4 miles away and I don't drive. I've tried to get into working out several times in the past but it never really stuck, I've gained a decent bit of weight during my stay in Korea and will obviously gain even more during my stay in the States so I'm remotivated and I feel like with a home gym I'll be way more likely to stick to some kind of schedule since it's no effort at all to just go into the garage and work out. On that note, if anyone has any recommendations as to what I should get, and potentially where I should get it from, I'd appreciate it!
The wife and I just got back from vacation in North Carolina where I had the opportunity to drive to the Harrah's casino and finally play some poker in a real casino environment. I've never been to a casino before. This one is probably nothing compared to anything they have in Vegas, as poker only became legal last year. The casino has thus existed entirely on slot machine players, so it's basically just one big mammoth building with about 10,000 slot machines in it. Kinda weird looking at first, just row after row after row of degen fuckin slot machines. Their poker room looks more like an afterthought, tucked away to the side with about 10 tables. You wouldnt even know whats going on over there until you got close enough. The tables being used are those electronic PokerPro machines where everyone sits in front of an LCD touch screen, very internet friendly.
I had a hard time getting the fucker to work properly, it would never register my inputs or show my cards to me when I tried to peak. People were telling me to jab it with my finger, or flip my finger upside down and tap it gently with my nail, or use an ink pen, or use a credit card, etc etc. There were some serious FUUUUUUUUUUU moments where I'm gettin irritated making people wait and timing out and shit and people leaning over to help push buttons for me lol. They would tap my screen and presto it works, I do the EXACT SAME FUCKING THING and nothing happens. I finally got "good enough" using a combo of techniques that I could play. Over the course of an hour I tripled up sending 2 fish walking before I cashed out so my wife and I could go eat dinner. I was really just testing the waters and she sat right behind me watching, so I didnt want to make her wait.
The overall experience was awesome though, being in a casino that is. I was always skeptical about how I would view life living in one of these things, working a job as a professional player. I thought I might feel worthless, or like some horrible degen or matt damon wannabe, cursing myself for throwing my life away to play in an adult version of a video arcade. Thoughts of looking myself in the mirror and asking "wtf are you doing?" were always my worst fears. Well those fears have been officially put to rest. I loved every minute of that place. The lights, the sounds, the sprawling indoor campus, the restaurants, the faces, just the whole damn experience. It is definitely for me, and I think I would fall in love with Vegas casino lifestyle even more when I get a taste of that some day.
So where to from here? Well the question is how the fuck do I get to vegas playing professionally? There's always online poker, but me and the internet dont get along so well these days. Live play always keeps me cool and collected. Online im so quick to play back at people and trash talk (chat banned myself a year ago from ftp and stars) and just get tilted beyond belief that it really ruins my play. Because I cant be a total douche live, I play so much better. I really think the only way I'll ever be successful is through live play, just because of the anti-douche factor.
So the way I see it I really have no choice but to start grinding the home games in my city again to build a life roll I can use to migrate to vegas, like 10-20k I imagine. I have NL200 and NL500 at my disposal 7 nights a week. While nowhere close to being rolled for these, my edge is so huge vs these live fish that I think it should be doable with a little rungood/reloads over the next few months until I get some momentum and can play with a real roll. From there all targets need to be set on vegas, reaching that pivotal moment where I can finally hop on a plane and fly the fuck out there. There are other places to play, but honestly none of them really seem as good of a deal as vegas. AC is a shithole from what I've read, living near foxwoods is expensive plus the weather is completely fucked during the winter (i hate the snow), Florida is ridiculously hot/humid plus the people are all cocksuckers down there. Their casino scene still isnt as well established as others and is more like a vegas/AC junior, especially with the recently uncapped NL buyins. Oh it's also expensive as fuck to live in Ft. Lauderdale. So that really leaves no options other than vegas. The upside to vegas besides the superior casino environment is that home ownership is ridiculously cheap out there with all the foreclosures and what not. It's still hot, but not humid. It's reasonably close to some cool shit on the west coast, namely california and all the places it has to offer. Overall just seems like the best bang for your buck.
To date I have been kinda flaky with my poker ambitions simply because I just wasnt sure if I could do it and more importantly, if I wanted to. Now I feel the answer to both question is yes. So hopefully my euphoria wont wear off and I'll get back out there before too long.
