CAP games by SoC, August 02

So after a very bad session on Nl5 and a failed NL10 shot my friend who's a cap regular at 1/2-5/10 suggested I tried CAP.

As I was in a tilted mood and quite happy to flip like a standard degen off I went to learn CAP.

Read guides+watched videos+ analyzed opening hand charts vs certain stats vs stack sizes.

I was severely underolled for CAP, the variance is insane and sick swings are common.

http://i51.tinypic.com/2ngbwpy.jpg

Anyway whats everyones views on CAP? The rake is insane, 8bb/100. And the swings are even more insane. But apart from that I think it's beatable, people flipping with any two including 27 because "I knew you was bluffing when you shoved" My J high still beats your 27 (until the board comes JJ222 :D)

Debt Ceiling Fail by k2o4, August 02

I could rant about this all day (and have been to friends and family) but I'd rather just let Keith lay it out. For those who don't want to watch him get all blow hardy (while speaking truth) here's my favorite line which really summarizes what has happened:

“We have superceded Congress to facilitate 750 billion dollars in domestic cuts including Medicare in order to end an artificially-induced political hostage crisis over debt, originating from the bills run up by a Republican president who funneled billions of taxpayer dollars to the military-industrial complex by unfunded, unnecessary, and unproductive wars, enabled in doing so by the very same Republican leaders who now cry for balanced budgets - and we have called it compromise. And those who defend it have called it a credit to a pragmatic president who wins some sort of political "points" because, having stood for almost nothing here, he gave away almost nothing for which he stood.”

Obama needs to grow a pair of balls.

Preflop PLO by Thall, August 02

hey there,
since I lost most of my roll due to bad bad play and the FTP shutdown I decided this summer is time for a new challenge. Just play for fun, and dont really worry about the results (obv. trying to play very good, but dont feel bad when i take a bad beat and stuff). So i decided to learn PLO. I picked up Jeff Hwangs Books (nice beach lecture for when I went to vacation)and watched the deucescracked series 2x6 and started watching Hellomaha.
I know that PLO is a post flop game, but somehow i already have problems PF. I tried to stick to the concepts i learned about not playing danglers, play cards that makes the nuts, thighten up pretty hard oop (esp. sb in multiway pots) and not playing crappy big pairs like dry TT/JJ/QQ. But my problem is in 2x6 vanessa selbst said one should end up playing around 25/20 (just a very rough estimated value) but even when I decide to go crazy and play "crappy" hands on the button in HU pots or when it's still unopened to me, I always end up playing 15/7 and I just dont know why... I can do whatever I want and feel like I am gambling like a maniac but i still end up 18/8 or something
I dont know exactly what I hope to achieve with this blogpost but maybe someone of you can give me a hint what kind of marginal/crappy hands I should add to my PF starting hands, because I just feel I play much too tight even though I think I stick very well to Vanessa Selbst's and Jeff Hwang's requirement for preflop hands...

cheers and enjoy the summer !

P.S. To give you a general idea about what hands i play:
-Any AA
-Most KK
- QQ/JJ with good side cards
- 4 rundowns, with eigher 1 gap at the bottom or 1 middle and 1 bottom gap (if in EP only at least single stuited)
- Axs with a pair to go with (for example A2s99)
- 3 rundowns suited to an A or with a pair (77+) (for example: 9987, 8776, A8s76)

Obiously playing the highercards UTG and loosening up depending on position

I play mostly 4-6 tables

O8 halp? by Fujikura, August 02

Can someone please direct me to some O8 guides, or tell me a good place to learn this gypsy game? I would use the search function, but I really feel like there would be someone here who might have better information who actually plays the game or something?? Thanks LP

messing around on merge by Sanity, August 02

Well I wasn't getting many shifts at my job and was just bored and just decided to throw $25 on merge mid june for fun and start grinding from NL4. Haven't played all that much because I starting getting lots of shifts again, but just felt like posting results cause I haven't blogged in a while.

Anyways I took a break from poker cause of black friday and just read hand histories and threads occasionally, it really helped my game a lot. I wasn't taking this very seriously so I just decided to take my shots w/ ~10 buyins of 6-8tabling 6max, just played a session of NL25 tonight sooooo IN B4 BUSTO

Honesty by NeillyJQ, August 01

Hey guys, I went through a big 18 month killin streak in mtts and had built my ego up so big it was pathetic.

it took months off of poker to realize how pathetic i was acting, to humble down and to re-learn cashgames. with the help of a great coach and LP, I am so happy you guys are responding and helping my games as well.

I just wanted to say thank you, and thanks for bearing with me when i went into an ego-maniac. Theres reasons, yet they are mute. You guys are a great community that has made me the player I am.

Really...I just didnt know how to handle success in MTTs and constanlty being owned in cash, it was this sick confliction in me, my competetive spirit and ego was causing so much confliction that I couldnt handle at those times, sadly.

SO yeah, Thank you very much for being there for me, I'll be posting a ton, and hope you guys can have time to give me a hand.

Just runnin 150 up on Hero in cashgames all month n see where I end up

Last night, my coach told me to play pure value poker. I played 18/14/2.5 and biggest lost pot was like .80. I'm going to continue to play like this for a good bit, adding in some stuff to own fish etc :-)

just day one, and just wanted to say ty, i know i've been a dick, a stoner who bashed ppl for fun, this was mostly my bitterness, for that i apologize.

GL LP and TY!
Ryan

I'm going to work on getting some mental overhauls to make sure i'm always happy

End of month by Highcard, August 01

I never post results usually but whatever, one day hope I can post results like Locoo. I know when I see higher stakes players post nice graphs it inspires me to play more, so maybe this will help even lower stakes players. Though not showing exact dollars but oh well.

All 1/2 FR-6max

Did not have much time this month to work, played maybe 9 sessions since I went backpacking/canoeing/portaging through algonquin park for a while.

Been a while by locoo, August 01

Hey, decided to reopen my blog for a few reasons.

Most important one is that in the past months I decided to embrace my profession rather than to be ashamed of it, what I mean is that I would always feel the need to lie to people about what I did for a living, because I truly felt that what I did wasn't a good thing and I wanted to get out as quickly as possible after making some bucks. This was fueled by the people around me mainly my parents, who never approved of it.

Nowadays it's no problem for me to say I play poker for a living and maybe explain a bit about it, in general people are pretty cool and some even wanna hear more about it.

I mean, how hard is it to find something that you are good at and enjoy and you can make a living off it? I should be pretty happy with poker and enjoy it as long as I can.

Now that I decided that I wanna continue being a pro as far as I can go I feel so much better and ready to commit again.

Truth is that because I have a family now with a wife and a 2 year old it's really hard to put in as much volume as I would want. But it's ok because I enjoy spending time with the family so much that I wouldn't have it any other way. I just have to try a bit harder everytime.

I'm really pushing myself lately to have a really balanced life, sleeping and waking up somewhat early, working out in the mornings, trying to see my friends as much as possible, spending a lot of time with my wife and kids and going out on sundays with parents as well all the while having to keep up with the massive swings that high stakes poker brings. It's no easy task but i'm getting the hang of it.

I want this blog to address many different topics, as I feel I'm pretty far and away from the naive, non experienced guy that started it so many years ago.

I'll start with a sweet ass graph of this month

+ Show Spoiler +

I've been having really good months lately playing mainly on stars, ongame and ipoker. Still not 100% satisfied with this month because I didn't put in as much volume as I would've wanted to, and because I didnt play my best all the time, I played pretty bad especially when I was losing which is a mistake I cant afford to make anymore, it can be REALLY costly but I'm working really hard on it.

Still I'm pretty happy because I picked up PLO and did pretty good at it, EV wise I did even better and I believe that EV in PLO says sooo much more than in NLHE. So I'm looking forward to improving there because the action at high stakes is pretty good.

I'll leave you guys with a series of videos found on tl.net http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=122917 I'm not quite sure why but after watching a few of them I played the best session of the month, not money wise but EV and decision making wise, for some reason those vids really inspired me.

Grinding by SoC, July 31

So after my $75 -> $575 went terrible due to running $50 under EV and just tilt throwing the rest away via coolers/donkaments/boredom, I took a few days off and restarted This put me 400VPP behind my gold target, which was fine as I had 4days, until I remembered I had guests and ended up on a 3day drinking session

So up I wake today with a 3day hangover and 220VPP to earn at the micro's.

http://i55.tinypic.com/2vrvofc.jpg

http://i51.tinypic.com/ji0pye.jpg

Is there anyway to manually "start/stop" sessions with HEM, my $/hour is fucked up as I play say 2k hands, take a break for 20mins, then play another section. But it counts the 20mins in myminutes played

Madotary rungood graph -

http://i56.tinypic.com/20717xy.jpg

10bb/100 on both Nl2 and Nl5.

20/13/5 stats. In 1.6k VPP I get $100 rakeback, so will probably smash Nl5 for 2weeks now, then move upto NL10 and start moving up stakes and stop robot grinding 24 tables :D

PS: Did anyone watch boxer v rain? INSAANNNNNE TvT, 1hr 10+

So... July is almost over by DustySwedeDude, July 31

I dunno, weird month. Had a very bad day yesterday but overall I've made a decent amount of money. Ended up winning probably ~15-16k€, 4, from cash games, 7.5 from various bonuses and the rest from tournaments. That's the third winning month in a row, and the first decent month in a while for me. Ran fairly decent overall and some of the sessions I played really well. Some I played really bad.

Happy with my mtt-results and play and I'm happy with how much I've learned, I've really evolved my game a fair bit opening up a little in some spots, tightening up a bit in others and overall started doing a lot more hand reading and hero-stuff. Got a decent amount of hands in too, so that's pretty good.

I know most of my leaks, now I hope I'll fix them.

Edit: The Strikeforce event made me cry. Abomination!
