PokerStars by locoo, April 24

So i decided to update my blog because some things about poker have been crossing my mind and I want a little time to think about them (writing about them makes me think about them).

New beginning

So I cashed out exactly 1007$ from PartyPoker and I asked my girlfriend to deposit me 70$ on PokerStars since my card don't work but hers does. I thought about depositing myself once my money arrived on my bank account and started playing the NL10$ tables at party.

NL10$

So NL10$ was far softer than I expected (even more than on Party!) and now after 2 and a half weeks or so I turned those 70$ into 500$. Yes, I'm so cheap!!! I saw the tables so soft that I didn't even deposited from my own money .

So I got 1000$ to spend on shit and bought my gf a very nice wallet and I'm planning to take my mom to dinner at a very fancy restorant .

Actually it was 560$ but here's the very depressing part:

NL25$

To keep it short, I was doing pretty good here, winning 70$ or so, when this happened:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180852

and

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180853

and after this of course got me a bit tilted so this had to happen:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180854

all this are in order but all almost at the same time, in different tables. I know the play wasn't the best and a little tricky but the results would've been the same anyway.

I feel so jinxed about NL25$, I'm gonna take a break until tomorrow. I'm still green on it on PS tho (!) but only like 28$.

BR : 508$

Ok I calmed a little. Onto the other short subjects.

Poker Books

I decided to buy some from Amazon (gonna use my PS FPPs to ship some clothing with the PS logo (pretty fucking cool) But I'm still not sure which.

Thinking about Aces on the River, some theory of poker (not the david slansky yet, but any of the sort) and a book about tournaments.

Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Full Tilt or NoIQPoker??

Yeah, they both have the same bonuses so i'm not sure which one to choose (or even choose one at all) when I reach 600$, but I definetly want rakeback and I will come back to PS once I'm pretty high stakes (If i'm ever there).

Still undecided

Anyway, I still don't know how to paste graphs (and wouldn't be much useful anyway since I play from 3 computers, depending on where I am, and only have PT on this one).

Gonna beat this fucking NL25$ once and for all, I know I'm better than a lot of this guys but I keep getting owned but 1 2 3 outers... Ok stop whining, I know luck will come my way.

Regards,

David.

C u and good luck at the tables!

Turning it around by Steve McNair, April 24

It's been exactly 2 weeks since my last posting, and things have been going a lot better. I feel like I'm playing pretty decent, but I can always single out a hand in a given session that I misplayed, making a bad call, missing a bet, etc. There's ALWAYS room for improvement, even when you're running ok.

I've been running pretty well overall, but I've had a TON of sessions where I "only" make 1-2 buyins because I got stacked on a bad beat or a total setup. I can't complain though because a majority of my big hands are also holding up, so I guess it's pretty much evening out. I'm just looking for that elusive session where everything goes right and I make 5-6 buyins in an hour or whatever. I have ~50K hands of 200NL under my belt and sadly the best session I ever had was +4 buyins. I suppose part of that comes from my tight style, and not getting involved in pots as often, but I've definitely had a few sessions where if I didn't get shit on by a bad beat or two, I would have been there. Anyways, like I said, I'm not complaining.

Here's my numbers over the last 2 weeks:

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/4962/pokercn8.png

I was reading on 2+2 the other day about the state of online poker with the UIGEA, and it is kind of depressing. By no means am I a dominant 200NL player, but I'm beating the game for a good amount, and supposedly 200NL is WAY tougher than it was say 2 years ago. I saw one guy say that 200NL now is equivalent to what 600NL was 2 years ago. I don't know enough about it to say whether or not I agree, but that's a kick in the nuts if it's true. It's hard not to think about what it would be like if I had started playing poker a few years earlier. Most of the American players I play with are at least somewhat competent regulars, and most of the US fish are now gone. Still, I do occasionally run into players like this:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180165

and this

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180164

That "pot odds" comment is awesome.

I'm fired up for the NFL Draft this weekend. Big day for my Titans - we have lots of holes to fill, so let's hope our new GM can handle himself. Thanks to the PacMan Jones debacle, the Titans have taken a HUGE step back this offseason. He singlehandedly won 2 games for us last year, and he played a big role in a lot of other wins. He is basically irreplacable. With the schedule the Titans have this year, I'd be shocked if they could match last year's 8-8 record. We need to shore up the D-line on saturday, and get some weapons for Vince.

Boring first post by twotimesopt, April 24

Hello LPers

I'm both pleased and saddened to welcome you to my blog; saddened because such a welcome implies that I do indeed (now) HAVE a blog, which is itself a somewhat disappointing thought. But I'm a hypocrite, so fuck it.

I figure I'll write the standard "here's my story" story, cuz everyone seems to love those. So, okay...

Started playing poker online last summer (06) after I met Day9 (and a mutual friend) at the college where I was researching over the summer. Played recreationally with mixed results during the summer and early fall. I tried to stop playing many times and focus on school, but inevitably I ended up back on this goddamn website looking at hands, reading threads, etc. It was actually BigBalls' 2/4 FR video that inspired me to get serious about poker, as it totally blew my mind the way he played a LAG, highly position-dependent style of play. From there I started (way under-rolled, of course) playing NL25 and became fairly successful.

I ran hot as fuck and was playing 600NL FR by a few months ago (using what some would consider poor bankroll management). Then, I hit a cold spell and cashed out most of my roll to buy a truck. I started over at 100NL about 2 months ago and I'm currently playing 400NL 6max.

I don't have PT on this computer so I can't post stats or graphs. Maybe next time. For now, here's some hands from my session last night:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180256

Such a silly overbet.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180254

I submitted this one as HOTW, which raszi quickly proceeded to call "standard". definitely NOT a standard call for me, so I'll take it as a compliment.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180281 - yup

On a side note, I just bought a new bike yesterday. It felt a little weird to spend $1k in a day and make it all back (+ profit) that evening. I'm still not totally used to mid-stakes profit, I guess. Anywho, here's a pic to liven this dull post up:

http://web.missouri.edu/~kwcmq3/bike.jpg

Ain't she sexy?

Update by MezmerizePLZ, April 24

After about 4 hours into the bet Crablar and I agreed to call-off the bet, he was already stuck money and did not want to risk losing more, and I didn't really feel like playing for 15 hours straight, so we called the bet off.

When the bet was called off, I had 31k on the tables, 6.2k hands, and 5k profit.

I may be willing to take a similar bet in the summer but we'd have to update the conditions, for example i kept ending up headsup or alone on a table when I already had a 4k stack, which makes it very tough.. so i really think this bet is very tough unless all the tables stay full.
i made 10k fpps though that was cool lol
SORRY EVERYONE

Nobody every plays enough by tachyonweb, April 24

Almost everyone has a continual goal have playing more hands. Why is it that so few succeed in reaching that goal? Well, I can think of a few reasons why I don't play enough:

1. Poker as a job is still a job. I have a full-time job, so I don't really want another one. I don't want poker to become something I feel obligated to do whenever I have any free time. Feeling like some of the more seasoned players do, where the game is not really that enjoyable but not playing is "losing money," would be (I think) detrimental to my game. That's not to say that I feel that way right now, but I just don't want to get to that point and ruin my enthusiasm. If ever poker becomes my main source of income (maybe in grad school), I'll definitely try to do stuff to keep it fresh, like playing in more tourneys, low stakes challenges, non-NLHE games, etc.

2. I'm losing. Well yeah. Do YOU want to play when you're questioning your play, running bad, needing to rebuild your bankroll, and reviewing brutal hands in PT day in and day out? Well I don't. This is certainly a mental leak and I hope that in the future, I can minimize this effect. Every poker player will pass certain points in their bankroll multiple times (hopefully an odd number). Viewing that as zero progress is a mistake. Long term. EV. Profit.

3. I'm winning. What the hell, right? I'm guessing I'm in the minority here, but when I'm running and playing well, I want to savor that feeling a little bit too much. I don't want to get right back into it and risk sinking down. This is the a similar leak to wanting to end a session after winning a big pot when the tables are still juicy and you're still playing your A-game. Once again, it's a continual battle as a poker player to not be results-oriented when you've been taught to be that way your entire life.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

Second Day by fishsticks, April 24

Well, yesterday I ran pretty bad online and lost about $100. Oh wells. I went and played some live cash and finished up $250 (net $150 on the day obv), and I'm happy to have found this game, it seems pretty soft. I'm strongly considering mixing in a healthy dose of live play into my routine.

Today I ran well and cashed about $450 in an afternoon session multitabling the 100s. Probably heading back to that live game tonight.

TILT by SakiSaki, April 24

Fuck. I just hate doing this. I logged on today and the fucking software was so laggy and anoying it tilted me istantly. I made a series of more or less bad bluffs and my villians kept making amazing calls (99 in a reraised pot on a K82 board etc)

I lost 11k in like 40 mins. These swings are not really a biggie on 10/20 i guess but its anoying when atleast half of the loss(probably more) could have been avioded. Fortunately most of my tilty plays where bluff pushes where i guess i had some FE and hopefully it helps my image or w/e. Still fucking sucks so much that im still tilting once in a while, it hurts so fucking much that i still can be this stupid.

Im a moron, someone please kill me.

Tomorrow ill drop down and 8-table 5/10 and lick my wounds.

Allright, time to reach for a beer and drown my sorrows.

April is g00t... by RAHZero, April 24

Still running well at NL 200. Put in a rough session Sunday night, lost to a couple bad beats early, managed to come back and was up about 1.5 buy-ins, then lost a couple big pots and finished up like $10 for the session. Yesterday was much better. Started off bad when I pushed a flush draw + overs on the flop and missed (was 49/51). After that though, things went very well. Hit a couple sets, 3-barreled successfully on one hand with a pretty good read, got AA vs. KK, overall pretty standard stuff and ended up about $760. Since my $1k+ downswing earlier in the month, I'm up almost $3.5k and up about $3k on the month total with bonuses and RB.

Monday's graph:

short session + going out by SneakrFreakr, April 24

So in the morning I got up and finally did what I was supposed to. Gonna get £270 as my tax return so I'll have some more drinking monies. Finally did some shopping so I don't have to eat pringels + red bull for my lunch anymore. Good diet is important, right? I played a bit today but the FTP was soooo slow that I finished very quickly. Made about $100 or so anyway so that's good. Should've been more but dem hoez are hitting their flush draws all the time when we get it in on the flop but whatever.

My friend just called that there's a party in one of the clubs that's called "Sex with the robots". No idea what does it mean. Maybe some free hoez dressed up like robots giving free blowjobs? Why not. Anyway the entry is free plus he's got a nice bottle of Polish vodka so I've got good implied odds so I can't just fold. The only thing that worries me is that I'll get pissed again, then sleep till 2pm tommorow and do nothing for the rest of the day. But let's hope that this time it'll be different. Ok time to put on some balla clothes and take my Gallardo from the garage. Oh wait.. I don't have one. Meh, buses are pretty balla too, aren't they? Holla

Reviewing by DarkMigore, April 24

I'm not being able to make money in the las few days.

Need to stop playing medium bets with weak hands.
Need to learn to plays draws.

Yesterday I played a huge session (for me), like 2 and a half hours. But couldn't make money.

Hands:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/179063
this is ok? I think i should be more agressive on the flop. Actually, I just called the flop and turn because his bets were too small to make me fold my hand. But I was scared of a 8 or TT.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180102
As i said before, don't really know how to play draws. Specially out of position.

I'll add a article that i liked in the comments that I found some days ago in my computer.

And a funny video.
Super Mario Frustration

Special Thanks to Midian that made analysed all my hands in the las blog entry.

April 24rd, 2007 (83.50) by KingKory, April 24

Today's summary:

Commentary:

A much needed winning session this morning.

3 BI's down for the month, and I'm trying desperately to avoid a losing month.

Hmm, this session I had 5 regular tables open, and 4 "fast" tables (as opposed to 9 fast tables), and I think that may have been a factor. When I'm playing 9 fast tables I don't usually feel rushed, but after playing half regular tables, I notice that I have more time to think about hands (duh), and maybe that makes a difference. Gonna try the same tomorrow morning.

Oh, and HOW ABOUT THEM WARRIORS?!?!? Shark's tickets for round 2 go on sale in a couple hours; gonna see if I can score some.

Top 3 winners:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180504 T2 T2!!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180505 Perhaps a bit over zealous with the shove.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180506

Top 3 losers:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180507

And I'm happy to report that no other losers were that significant.

Hands of Note:

TPTK vs. Turn C/MR ?? 20/4/2 over 400+ hands.

Equipment! by Silver)Z(, April 24

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/3121/fall5vu0.jpg

My newbie hopes are being crushed...

the downwards trend has slowed, but I'm still on track to lose all of my partypoker promotion money before I can even get my free +$25 after 500 raked hands.

Down $22 to $28 remaining over 1000 hands.

I've stopped playing to re-evaluate my play again...

I got poker tracker trial version, then i got a key for it from maroony in a recent thread o.o
good luck for me off the poker table! I've now got a valuable piece of equipment
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/4197/ptstats1gk0.png

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5171/ptstats2wj8.jpg

apparently still pretty loose O.O .. but some of the hands I was playing with just 3 people or heads up so not sure if its accurate.

regarding hands, here's some I want improve my play in.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180343
results from playing KK are I've gotten beaten by AA twice now... maybe I should be letting it go.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180387
I get the feeling I shouldn't be leading this... ah well, at least I still got good odds on my drawing. looks like he was slow playing something, still, I think it was not a bad spot to bluff? although maybe into 2 people is not so good.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180430
horrible play by me.. if i put him on a good starting hand to exclude the 8, then that means his bet on the queen is probably AQ isn't it? I must stop being a calling station. Also, remember minraise = monstor.
I can find much better spots than these to get my chips in.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180433
donktastic. gotta find better spots to be bluffing, or maybe stop bluffing at all against players that I don't have any read on. anyway, note to self, when i don't hit the flop, be done with the hand.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/180438
I've got to tone down the aggression a bit.. its not working. and why am I calling his re-raise? I'm done with the hand here in future.

so at the moment I'm thinking about changing my style a little bit, going to tighten up the hands that I'll throw my chips in with. Maybe waiting for a hand like 2 pair or better before I start playing.
or maybe I just need to wait for the weekend when the fish will come out.

I've... acquired... (read stolen) another good recourse, a few books about poker, Harrinton on holdem, and the theory of poker, and supersystem 2.
no doubt they are not really applicable to nitting it up, but hopefully I will get a better perspective on how to outplay.

Woot, poker tracker and poker books, I've got cool poker equipment. PUT IT IN MY PANTS!:
http://rpgworldcomic.com/comics/20010311a.gif
(see
http://rpgworldcomic.com/d/20000827.html for first of this cool RPG related comic)

I'm also re-reading grots guide for about the 5th time to try to get a perspective on these tables.

So,I'll:
-do alot of reading about poker theory
-learn to use poker tracker
-make another post on what I know that gives me an advantage at $0.04
-play again in a few days, make tight flop decisions. stay disciplined

By the way if you actually read this far, please leave a comment on anything you thought xD

keep on fighting~
