I run lukewarm (+117.00) by KingKory, July 26

July 25th - 26th, 2007

Today's summary:

http://www.coryland.net/uploads/pb072607.jpg

Commentary:

Pretty good couple of sessions. I was up 3 BI's at one point yesterday morning, but the AsQ hand, and some failed c-bets/2-barrels brought me down a couple BI's. I lost 2 hands where I 4-betted 2 players who I thought were isolating me. After a few orbits with them, I realized it was just paranoia.

No majorly interesting hands though.

Also, my 49ER SEASON TICKETS came in yesterday. Very excited for the season.

Yesterday's Razz tables by D_Finkle, July 26

I started out yesterday crushing everything I sat down at. I played some .50/1.00 just to wake up and made around 16 bucks in abot 10 minutes. Then moved on to razz where I had run my daily profits up to 144 in 2 hours playing 1/2 and 2/4. Then.

There had been a really bad accident that took place near my parents house the day before (Tuesday). 6 people were injured including a teenage girl and an 8 year old boy. As it turns out the 8 year old boy was in my mother's preschool class and the teenage girl was one of my sister's friends. When I found this out, I decided to take a break from poker and go hang out with my sis for a while. I get over there and she doesn't seem all that affected. My mom told me she had been pretty upset earlier but that she had calmed down quite a bit. Turns out that they were friends (my sister had gone to her b-day party once) but that they didn't hang out even on a monthly basis. So while I'm sure she's upset by it, it didn't affect her the way it did my brother when his best friend was killed in a baseball accident.

So after about an hour of hanging out with my sister, she jumped on her computer and I went downstairs to play some more razz. Ugh. I found a pretty juicy 3/6 table and a decent 1/2 table. I did well at the 1/2 but hit 47 bricks in a row (literally, i counted) at the 3/6 table. Instead of just saying screw it, and taking my losses I kept playing hoping that I would stop running bad but it was not to be. I lost the first 60 because i compounded running bad with playing awful. Then i lost about 55 to bring-ins and antes without playing a single hand (JQ7 isn't really playable). Thanks to a suckout wheel on 7th street i was able to get back to only down 11 bucks on the day prior to going to the greatest competition of all time - see previous blog entry.

When I got home, I was in a much better mood, as my sister competed with us at the tournament, and the quesadilla i ordered at taco bell actually had melted cheese this time. 2 hrs. 15 min. later i was back up over 100 on the day and called it quits after making over a buy-in at a 3/6 table.

Talk about an up and down day! But I'll tell you what... I learned quite a bit yesterday. I think I might make a few more -ev decisions so as to keep my variance down a bit. Fisheye25 reccomended that to me and I think he is right. Especially when starting out a new career I think that is the better approach.

I run hot by Big_Rob_48, July 26

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/1791/400nl2wb0.jpg

Running hot, that is all.

Made 2 questionable folds vs ActionDJ, I never make questionable folds, only questionable calls, I like the comments on them so far, I like going broke in the QQ hand more now, especially since i notice his AF is like 6 so far in my pt database.

Week in review by T8Suited, July 26

I didn't play very much last week. I was on a trip for 2+ days, and I also had to help Arielle pack things up as she leaves Canada for good. Plus there were other emotional times. =(

Summary:
7.5k hands
25/12/2.8
+$133 (1.76 PTBB)

It was a relatively uneventful poker week. Not many big pots. I had one really bad session when I was 8-tabling (2 or 3 more than what I usually play) and the quality of my play noticeably suffered.

Next target: 52k FPP by December so that I can get Arielle a fancy camera (I now have 11k)

And now the boring part. Comments on any hands welcome.

The good

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/233942 44 Flopped set rivered quads
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/233943 A7d I have played with blackfruit before, I really hate (or read: respect (or even fear)) this guy, but on the other hand I knew he can make big laydowns.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236542 AA Reraised pot, AI on sub-optimal board
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236543 22 Standard set vs overpair
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236544 A4s Opponent must have like 5 seconds of euphoria between turn and showdown
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236545 99 Opponent must have put me on AK (or AA) instead
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236551 AT Reraised pot against a play-making monkey who hesitated long before shoving flop
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236552 AKd TPTK against a weird flop lead
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/237201 A2s A real fun hand

The bad -- quite a long list, hence my low PTBB/100 this week
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/233940 AA Opponent was predictable postflop, so I should have folded river, if not the turn.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/233941 KK Another debacle from my 8-tabling session -- impetuous call of an overbet.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236539 QQ Overset, AI on flop, no good by the river
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236540 AQ Turning my TPTK into a thin semibluff
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236541 K9d Poor me another suckout against
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236548 65c Sick setup
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236549 K9d I swear I won't play K9d ever again
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/236550 QQ AI preflop 150BB pot lost race
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/237200 J9 Top 2, perhaps foldable against a mutltabling regular.

~Take care Arielle I'll come find you soon~

day 7 by whamm!, July 25

me again. won back most of what I lost now im only down i think 3buyins. that bad run for 3 days was terrible terrible. then while driving on the way back home, i realized that a "coinflip" situation is what it is, a coinflip - could go either way. now im playing better again and i think ill be moving up to 50nl by next week. looked at my tracker and saw that the cards and their winning % value really does hold up, aces kk qq jj 1010 are really winning cards. i have to think, to avoid tilting, that being a huge favorite is really just an edge, not a guarantee. oh well, gtg and ill update this again when im at 50nl already. peace.

X-Post from my other blog -- Poker Trainwreck by Trey, July 25

July 25 - Trainwreck

Holy shit. Today sucked. As some of you know I usually take Wednesdays off. I played a little bit and won about $650 altogether today, and after dinner I decided to come back. Big mistake.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238391 - This was one of the first hands I got stacked on. Thank god he wasn't a full stack, but it was close enough. I don't really think I can play this any other way.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238393 - This hand happened pretty much right after the other hand. I figured he was raising flop lightly (I've seen him do it before) and I figured he'd bluff a scare card. Unfortunately for me he had it this time and I didn't fill on the river. Guess I could've 3-bet the flop but it achieves the same result because he's a spewmonkey that doesn't fold a draw.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238394 - So fucking nasty, but oh so standard.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238396 - Ughhh.. guy was a 50/10 or something ridiculous like that.. I really don't see any way to get away from that one either.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238397 - MadSkillz is a really over-aggro regular.. I figured he was raising my preflop isolation pretty light, and yankee35 snap-called his 3-bet. Yankee was running 47/0 at this session and I really thought he didn't have anything and I thought I had a bit of fold equity against MadSkillz but apparently I was wrong. Mehhh.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238399 - My hand just kept getting better and better vs a crazy unknown. Sigh.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238401 - I barely ever bluff this river but the guy was so loose preflop that I figured he could fold a hand like he had or maybe TT-JJ. Unfortunately for me, he makes an awesome call with 2nd pair and a counterfeited kicker. Obviously I never have a hand so he's good.

So I took a break and headed to nl100 because it's so easy there.. Right.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238402 - Standard KK v AA.. I really wanted to fold to his shove but I can't do it against retards.. I just can't.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238403 - Yeah this was a bad play because nothing that I'm crushing is calling my shove here and he is drawing very live pretty often, if he doesn't have me killed already.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238404 - Again, I was getting AA a lot today, but it never holds obv. Probably a bad shove again because what is he gonna call with here? 99? Doubt it. Sigh I suck.

-1300 after dinner.. total of -580 overall in cash games.

Also spewed about $120 in the $3r and played the $27.50 freezeout as well. Sighhhh my shot at nl200 was going so well, back to nl100 with 40 buyins.

I should've just taken today off.

Lot of poker by Daut, July 25

I've played about 5-6k hands the past 2 days.

Yesterday i played about 2k hands at 3/6 and finished up about 9 buyins. I didnt feel like i was playing my best but I ran really well and everything went my way.

Today i played 2 sessions, one at 10/20 on ftp for about 1500 hands and one at 3/6 6max on stars for about 1500 hands. I lost about 7k on ftp and another 2k on stars for a -9k day. I feel like I played really poorly in a few hands but overall decent because I put my opponents in a lot of tricky spots and ran a few really big bluffs successfully.

I was experimenting with a lot of deepstacked situations when my opponents and I were 200bb+ deep against each other. I was calling some 4bets in positon with speculative holdings, and calling a lot in position then raising a lot of scary flops and potting the turn. Most of it worked out pretty well, but lost a 2300 pot at 3/6 when i called a 4bet from the cleaner with KTdd and flopped a flush draw and shoved over his cbet and was snap called by AA on an 872 2 diamond flop. I sort of like the play though because he is almost certainly folding QQ and KK and probably has AK or air a decent amount of the time.

im going to take a break for a while and will play a long session later tonight wherever the games look the best.

What now?! by Oddeye, July 25

Well, Bishop aka TheTree aka Fuzzylefuzzle helped me on NL50 for some while, went good then went bad. Then we played on some table and I got his money ;D
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238109

Then I had some shitty suckout. Some terrible setup.

The Greatest Competition of All Time!!! by D_Finkle, July 25

Tonight.... I will be attending the greatest competition of all time. I mean, talk about prestige. I don't know if I can describe the fame that comes with winning it. That's right, for those of you in the know.... you're already aware that I'm talking about the Wednesday night putt-putt tournament. I'm nervous just thinking about it. I've been debating all week and have finally made that crucial decision. I will be going with the red ball this evening. Last week i used the green ball but had trouble finding it on the green carpet at times. Wish me luck you all. If i win, autographs will be 5 dollars each.

Relaaaaax, take it eeeeaaaasssyyy by Gawuss, July 25

First of all - this month is the worst one in my poker career. I'm down about 4k I've been running pretty badly - coolers, bad beats also my bad play due to me being pissed off and nervous all the time cause I couldn't win anything. So overall my downswing reached about $6,5k. I'm pretty upset because of it but I think I have a really big egde to beat 200nl's and 400nl's noobs. I just need a break and here it comes
I'm leaving to Italy in a few hours for about 2 weeks with my friends. I feel it's gonna be great :D After I'll come back I'll post some pics with italian hot chicks ^_^ Be patient !

Here's the graph for this month (yeah I know I haven't played many hands cause I took few days off):

+$97 on 3/6FL on Pokerstars which isn't graphed here

I WILL MISS YOU LP !! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE

First blog post, terrible day(s) by noz, July 25

Welcome to my first blogpost, i decided to create a blog to have some more input from others on what i do right and wrong.

Today has been a terrible losing session, lost 6 BI's. Pretty much only coolers/badbeats/lost-coinflips. Yesterday was terrible as well but ended up only 1 BI down even though there were some brutal bad beats.

Should have a good day comming up again, these past 2 days were pretty bad. I still got 44 BI's for 50NL so it's all good but i was hoping to move on to 100NL soon. Guess that will have to wait for a little while longer (i want a bankroll of least $2750 before i move on).

Here's some hands of today:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238126
standard lost coinflip

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238122
A bit of a tilt push i guess. I put him on a set but i had quite a monster myself, with the turn giving me top pair + nut fd i decided to push.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238121
Star's is hilarious, i haven't hit any sets today and then i hit quads :/

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238108
typical shortstack suckout

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238106
could i really have gotten away from this?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238021
i'm not granted any value

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238013
wtf is this? krablar!

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/238001
i actually won a pot!

Decent day and guys .... listen! by D_Finkle, July 25

I had a decent day yesterday making twice what i feel i need to make on a daily basis. That was good as I had been on a small downswing. Its funny how one good day can rebuild your confidence quite a bit. Also, I've started talking to another big razz player who also has a Sunday Million ft to his credit. He seems to be a pretty good guy and I think he's going to help me clean up my game a little bit. Which leads me to the next thing I want to talk about....

I started writing this blog yesterday for two reasons...

1) I have read plenty of blogs from the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Brian Townsend, etc. While I always enjoy reading about their daily escapades, I find it difficult to relate to Brian Townsend's recent 3 million dollar downswing. So, if others think the same way I do, this would give them at least one more person that is in a similar place in the game as they are to read about and compare themselves with.

2) While my wife has been 100% supportive of my attempt at a poker career, many others around me have questioned it. Once I have explained to them the responsible approach that I have taken with it, they usually view it in a better light. So, one reason I am writing this blog is to get to know you all, as I would think you all would be more apt to "root me on" than some of my friends/family have been. So.... one last time.... I have set aside multiple months worth of paychecks. If I have to dip into said paychecks to a level agreed upon by my wife and I, I am done with poker as a career and will move onto a job with a company that I already have lined up waiting for me if I need it.

I graduated high school on my 18th birthday. I graduated college exactly 4 years later and had a job lined up in teaching before I graduated. 3 weeks to the day after I graduated college, I got married. 3 weeks after that, I bought my first house. I had been at the same job ever since, though i was slowly disliking it more and more (nothing like having kids curse you out on a daily basis, then get rewarded for it by the administration). I tell you all this to point out that... in my 26 years, I haven't taken a single big chance in my life. So for the couple of you who feel the need to leave negative comments about my wanting to play for a career, let it be. I never understand why people want to be so negative towards others that belong to the same community. With things like the UIGEA and the negative stigma that many still place on poker, I would think that people would embrace the community of poker players and encourage each other rather than attack, attack, attack.

Ok, so this is my semi-rant.... How you guys doing? How are the kids?

Summer by twotimesopt, July 24

Hey there LP

Been a while since I wrote in this here blog - it's been a busy summer, so here's an update:

Non-poker stuff
Done a bunch of traveling this summer. Here's where:

  • Utah - climbing in the La Sal Mountains and went riding in Moab.

  • Washington DC - friend's wedding

  • Colorado - climbing in the Denver area, and climbed Crestone Needle at 14,000+ feet elevation.

  • Wisconsin - family vacation on a lake.

teh pokahzzz
Poker has been going really well. I had a sick downswing last spring which was a combination of a horrible tilt-induced failed shot at 600nl and...a drunkament (what else?). Then, I cashed out $4k from my significantly diminished roll to live on like the baller that I am. So, I have done some rebuilding this summer - BUT, I feel like I am playing my best poker ever. I have been playing both short-handed and full ring games, and for the first time ever I feel comfortable in both, which is nice.

hrm, goals?
I just started playing 400nl again recently. I think the game is noticeably harder than 1/2, but still very beatable, especially on weekends and stuff when the fish are out. Anyway, my plan is to stay here for a while and try to double my roll and then.........try to figure out that weird game where you get 4 cards. So, if anybody has really good ideas for how to learn PLO please ship them my way. Otherwise...just watch for me and take my monies when I start, cuz that game is so confusing compared to NLH. But w/e, should be a fun learning experience.

In other news, I successfully made enough FPP this summer to get a TV and another monitor from PS, so ship the electronics my way. I've been playing more this summer than ever before, which is awesome. Here's a graph of the last two months. This is mostly 100nl and 200nl, with some 50nl and 2/4 as well.

http://img36.picoodle.com/img/img36/9/7/25/f_graph2m_2f8975d.gif

lol, I also recently had this happen - it was pretty goofy: http://www.liquidpoker.net/informatio...ation_definitely_worth_a_mention.html . In other news, I'm about to move to Eugene, Oregon. Any LPers from that area?

Oh, one last thing. I've got to say - railing myth at the Sunday Million final table was about the most fun I've ever had watching somebody play poker. All of you railbirds were just INSANE and hilarious - I was sitting there just laughing my ass off. My roommates would walk by and be like "what's so funny?", but I couldn't really explain it. Anyway, props to y'all for making LP the sweetest poker community out there - it is seriously kick-ass, and the FT railing was a perfect demonstration of the dedication, hilarity, and insanity that makes it so awesome. Cheers!
