| | The world of value betting by Leetmeister, January 11
I was sinking like a can of leaky diet coke today as usual when I decided to tilt a bit and try out new stuff. Especially value betting, something I heard of, but havent really dared to try to much before cause I'm too afraid of the final hand, slowplayers, insane bad luck or something. Value betting takes care of the slowplayers because they usually dont just call you, but raise you on the flop, and you have saved all the money you would have lost if you were unlucky enough to hit a lesser good hand on turn or river. And you can take hom a lot of pots at river, you only lose the amount you value bet at river when they reraise big. Then you'll have to be able to fold, or you are a fish you will swallow the bait, hook and sinker at the same time.
I started to understand the bet / fold to reraise when I was minus 15 and I won 40 dollars from then on, on the next 1000 hands.
It doesnt seem like 0.01/0.02 really gives points in the hand race, I fell to 11. place even though I played thousands of hands, so if they count I really have no chance against these nerds. The good side is I can stick to 10NL for a while if this winning run continues, and it's not just some luck after changing style as usual.

| | Rednines by Malmis, January 10
Ok, so i cashed out all of my money(270€) from Titan poker and deposited it on Rednines.
After two sessions of NL10, i had made enough money to play NL20. (~400$)
I've only played 2 shorter sessions there so far, but NL20 doesn't seem unbeatable.
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/627/redninesps5.jpg
When i first registered for rednines, i hoped to take part of that lp.net rakeback thingy, but unfortiunatly, it apparently ended on jan 1. So i emailed support and they hooked me up with a thing called redpoints, which (by my calculations) will give around 5-25% rakeback, dependable on when you cash out. They also gave me 30% in standard rakeback, which is really neat.
Current BR is 450$. Hopefully i'll be playing NL50 by February.

| | Lame day, downswing beginning? :< by WilsWils, January 10
Sat down to another 6max session, was feeling kinda pukey/sick but wanted to just get my ez 200 points for the day for ironman, little did i know i probably shouldnt have sat down to play at all because I got outdrawn like a motherfucker today
set mined by 2's 3's 8's by OOP 2:1 odd callers, i spike my High card on super dry board vs aggro regs who do standard c/r feeler raises, and i puke call because im bad (and also because by the time the 3bet comes, it's like 70$ in the pot and only 15$ more to see if he truly did flop the set )
Flopped a set in 3bet pot vs laggro donk with like 50 vpip who called with 46o and flopped a straight
flopped a flush to lose to runner runner FH 1x AI onflop ofc -> not so standard
Flopped flush to lose to set which fills up 1x after valuetowning flop / turn -> standard
NFD + 2 overs + gutshot vs 74o, turn river 4 4 ofc
TP+NFD outdrawn even when i psb flop turn by a guy chasing a straight
just one of those days, where you just cant catch a break, oh well variance is normal ._.
taking the day off 100% tommorow. Whatever, i was / am still on track to meet my january goal of 2K + RB (after -4BI today im currently at 1430ish), and we're only 1/3 through the month, so i have plenty of play left to get well beyond 2k. Just gotta avoid playing tired, and quit early when i get disgusting sessions like this.
-4BI
Hands played : 500 aka insta quit until rb comes into bump me up from this gross day

| | Positional play by louhi, January 10
I'm going over my PO stats and I see that I'm loosing on 4/9 seats in NLHE
(faq. these are big blinds)
-1,0BB while on cutoff
-0,4BB while on button
-0,2BB while on SB
-2,4BB while on BB
And while going trough my final hands I can easily see that when I get a pair I loose a lot. And with highcard I also loose but I don't know if that's such a wonder
-4,5BB/hand for pair
-3,4BB/hand for high card
I've got to be doing something extremely wrong.
Another thing I would like is that I wouldn't play so fucking retarded when ever I have overpair. I've bet 100% of time on flop and lost a avarage of 42,25BB per overpair.
I also bet with TopPair/HighKicker but I win an avarage of 14,2BB/hand
When I see the chart's for startinghands It's easy to see where I go wrong. Playing overpairs such as JJ, TT or QQ as agressively as I have will easily lead to this position. PF raise% with QQ, JJ and TT is about 85%, and first in raise is 25%. I think I should just stop bluffing
What I also should stop doing is playing 0.5/1, 1/2 or 2/4CAP just in order to get the full tilt points(iron man challenge). Loosing one all-in over there and my bankroll will take the hit.

| | Italy snowboard trip :) by Gawuss, January 10
Hey all, I haven't updated this blog for a long time and want to write a short one now.
So basically 2007 was a pretty lazy poker year for me. However, I managed to win about ~$12-$15k. I feel like I could've done way more than that but I would have to play more hands and improve without any breaks. In the end of 2007 after all cashouts etc. I had about $10,1k in my online bankroll. A beginning of 2008 was pretty good. I managed to win about 1-1,5k in less than a week (which is really nice for me since I haven't been doing so well since June '07) but - obviously - lost it all after a mix of bad beats/coolers non stop and a little bit of tilting. My br is now at something like $9,3 - $9,4k (exluding rakeback I'm going to get soon)
As some of you may remember about a month ago or so I won 2 hours of coaching with RikD. I still have one hour remaining but I think I'll save it for later, when I'll be trying to move up to 2/4NL.
I don't know, maybe if my bad run/play continues I'll hire some coach. I still feel like there are a few leaks in my game and one of my goals this year is to fix them and become a better player and to play higher stakes obv
So that's all about poker.
I'm leaving tomorrow (actually today, it's 2:20am here) for a camp in Italy with a couple of my friends. I'll be snowboarding in Val di Sole (The valley of sun - not sure if I translated it correctly). I've heard many good thing about this place and I think it's gonna be awesome ^_^
I hope I'll find a wi-fi internet connection there so that I'll be able to post some pics here.
No graphs and stats today. Just a picture of my desk:

Good luck to you all
and don't beat it !!!

| | Lessons of the Week by Babygrand, January 10
Tuan Lam is really really really really really bad.
Elky is the man.
The 25/50 NL game is very boring.
Limit holdem on stars is pure donkaments and might be my new game.
In live poker it is wayyyyy easier to make a bluff if you tell the other player what they have. Made a deep stack bluff against a kid this week, set when river flushed, all-in.
Most important lesson... Don't play with all of your bankroll when you are wasted. Kind of a bad idea. Bad results.

| | Me + Sunday 100k by SugoGosu, January 10
I have been playing really little amounts in the past week or so, I had a few bad beats so i took a little break and after Elky had won the PCA I decided to play a little Sat. to the Sunday 100k and I won (just barely) so I'll be participating in it and hoping to luckbox my way to a little bit of the cash. (like 20 bux) if not, then hey, whatever, only $2.25!

Played a smallish session today, just over 1k hands. I did plan on playing another session this afternoon, however, I ended up taking a nice 5 hour nap instead and it was glorious. For some reason today I felt like playing a donkament so I checked out the tourney tab and didn't see anything I liked. I ended up just playing a $4.40 while I played 4 tables of 6 max. The tourney went well and I was in good shape when this hand came up with 14 left.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/357283
Atleast I didn't bust here I guess. Always nice to run well at the end of these tourneys though and go into the FT with a decent stack. Luckily for me I didn't have to worry about the FT. Got back up to just over 5M when the blinds were 500/1000/100 with 10 players left and I picked up 99 UTG. Obviously I shoved and wouldn't you know it the sb had 10's and I did not improve. Glad I wasted 2 hours of my life to lose a 70/30 and then with 10 left a setup. Made a smooth $4 in profit, at this rate I'll be ballin like Elky in no time.
The cash game went a lot better today then last nights session. I looked over PT and also over the comments on the hands I posted and hopefully filled those leaks on a more permant level. So thank you for the comments the are appreciated. I did have a couple hands I wanted to discuss today. Both I think are real straight forward.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/357538
I had just sat at this table and no one knows I'm playing real laggy yet, my database didn't have anything on any of these players when I sat down so they don't know me and I don't know them. That being said I think this is a preflop fold. As weak tight as that sounds I just can't imagine what I'm ahead of here other then A/K. I mean if he's going to 4bet A/K OOP wouldn't he just shove it so he doesn't have to worry about post flop decisions? And his 4 bet is for value and for some reason I decided to play it real fast and look him up. Anyway once I make the call preflop I think the hand is standard, but pre flop this is a fold. Everyone agree?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/357222
I've been at the table awhile and I have been playing real aggressive. Opening a lot of pots, 3 betting in position standard stuff. Here I got a real weak bet into the pot so I decided to raise and see that if he had it plus if a 4 hits I'm getting his stack unless he's so strong that he hit a set but whatever I'll pay that off here. Turn is standard and I just didn't see how he could have 2 hearts here so river was a snap call. Anyway it's more of a raising the flop thing with 1 acting behind me. Is it really worth putting in this raise vs a weak bet? I have seen a few people who like to bet real weak to induce a raise then repop over the top and with once acting behind me is it really a +ev move? If I get called I'm beat but I am also going to be in position so I can control the pot size a lot better assuming it gets folded behind. Thoughts on my line please.

| | 1st Real Money MTT Win! by LilDeano89, January 10
Hi all,
Yesterday, Thursday the 10th of January 2008, I won my first real money multi-table NL Holdem Tourney!
The event was a $12 buy-in 180-player Turbo SNG Tourney, and I ended up taking it down for a cool $600!
This gives my roll a nice bump-up and gives me good support for my recent move up to 25NL.
Nothing in cash games can beat the feeling of Tourney Victory though!
Bye for now,
LilDeano89

Nothing much. I’ve been gambling for few hands in some 1/2 tables. Just to get the 50 fulltiltpoints per day to get some ironman challenge medals & access to the freeroll.
BR 551.35
I’ve been extremely tired for the last days. I really need to get more energy before starting to play more.
Quiting smoking has been a bit hard for me. Or actually quiting part is ok, but doing it cold turkey has failed. But in the process I’ve managed to downsize my smoking from 30 cigarettes per day to 4-6 avarage. I’m looking into cutting the amount to zero before end of january.
As for other things. I’m currently looking into buying a firm that looks good. It’s not often you find companies for sale that don’t need to be fixed. But as for that I’m not going to disclose anything that would violate my NDA.

$554.15
-$61.20
Nothing to say really. I just want to smoke. At this point quiting smoking has costed me $390.80, Smoking costs about $6.35 per pack (20 cigarettes) in Finland. So in 62 days I have positive value. Damn I should have made some bets about my quiting beforehand offering 3:1 or even 5:1 would have gotten all my friends bets. And to do it in a way where results are checked let’s say at 1st of feb. Then I couldn’t loose. Though I know that if I go out to party I will smoke. But that’s ok since I go to party about once or twice a year.
