Mm, Poker updates, life updatesby thewh00sel, April 16
My last blog entry was from mid-07 when I was on some sort of challenge bit or w/e and it didnt quite import correctly, but regardless I've decided to do an update of me and my life and my poker career.
I decided to play poker professionally in January of 2007 when I grinded a fair amount of 1/2 and had some success in smaller tournaments for a couple thousand dollars. January was my first 10k month and it was great. Over the month I played every day and only had 2 losing days. Was pretty sick. February was pretty mediocre in comparison since I hardly played at all but I still managed to make $2500. In march I didn't play much online, I was still only 20 but I played more at local home games than I did online. I played at 1/2 home games 3-4 times a week and made about 4k and then I luckboxed the $10 rebuy for 13.5k on the last day of the month. Owning up the last day of the month would become a trend for me as I would get owned and hardly play and then play a ton of tourneys the last week of the month and crush something.
April was swingy and ended up break even, and May was pretty depressing. I strung a couple of 1k+ days back to back and had a 6k day in the first week of the month, and then I proceeded to dump my profits for the month taking shots at 2/4 and playing too many high-buy in tournaments. But, obviously since I run good I managed to hit on ultimate bet on the last sunday of the month for 11k in their sunday 200k guaranteed and turned my May into a +11k month.
June and July were mild, I made 2500 in June even though I lost like 4k up at Turning Stone for an event they were having. In July I made about 4k, and then came the sickness...August I didn't play a lot but when I did it went horribly. I was playing over my bankroll in MTTs and dropped 5k in august, lost 1k in september (and I also got married in september, wee congrats me), and I lost another 5k in October. So what was shaping up to be a dominating year had turned into a +35k 10 months. I was already at 40k by the end of may so I pretty much had a really lame 5 month break even stretch due to a lack of playing and playing higher limits than I was used to.
At the beginning of November though I told myself I was going to buckle down and put in some hands at 1/2. I 12-tabled 1/2 6-max for that month and netted $7,500 and I really felt like I was on the right track. December rolled through and I made 3k in the first 3 days of the month in cash games, as well has winning a tournament for 6k on the 3rd. Pokerstars also announced that they were doing a promotion for the top 100 on the TLB, so I decided that I would go for that. I played a lot of tournaments, and it really helped to start off with a win. One day in the middle of the month 2 final tables and a final table bubble put me ahead 5k more and put me in good position to bubble the top 100 TLB, lol. And with no real scores for the rest of the month I managed to have a good run in the $1k sunday million (on the last sunday of the month again) and finished 20th or 19th for like 8k and that solidified my spot in the top 100. The top 100 then played for a pokerstars passport to travel to 8 big tourneys across the world, but I busted pretty early in that thing.
For November and December I managed to rake in about 30k and brought my yearly winnings up to 65k which is an amount I could actually say that I was proud of; But I'm definitely not planning on having a year less than 100k anymore .
January I absolutely crushed, I managed to outright win the $50rebuy on stars twice (once on the last day of the month obv) and made ~33k for the month. In early february I won a seat to EPT San Remo for April, but other than that 10k score it was about a break even month. March was lame, i couldn't catch a break in tournaments and dropped about 6k. But wow what a month April is becoming. San Remo was great, I finished 26th/700 for about 20k American, but I also became friends with (and got 2% of) Jason Mercier who went on to win the event for a cool 1.3 million. Plus I got 3rd in another tourney on stars which puts my April at a whopping $52,000 with two weeks to go. Which is why I obv ordered new license plates for the EVO that say "SIK LIFE" So hopefully my car doesnt get the shit keyed out of it to "put me in my place" for having that license plate.
In other news, I'm moving to vegas either at the end of May or June 1 just in time for the WSOP and I still need to win a main event seat, but I'm guessing I'll have ample opportunity to win a seat to it while I'm there. If you read the whole thing, congratulations, If you didn't....
Cliff notes: I turned pro in Jan 07, made only 65k with high expectations, now currently crushing up ~75k and moving to Vegas soon.
Ok so i am hyper tilted right now. Took a shot at 200 nl it was all going well and suddenly i don't know even how i made fucking mislick. i hate that all in button at ipoker. r u kiddin. Ive been a poster for a while but I never thought of getting a blog mainly because I never really had anything interesting to say poker wise.
Help with hands etc..was all that I did.
I started poker like 3 years ago and had built a br for a 200nl player and had a stint with 400nl after moneymaker made the scene very easy but had to cash out and pay for an education, rent etc...what a WASTE of money.
Anyway my 1st post will be about an mtt win I had while studying.
10+1 5 min blinds 180 man, its a start but ill take it.Was a very cool tourney i luckboxed HARDCORE in some hands that ill show below
or just look at the hands under red9, some are sick sick rigged hands i had to make cause of the high blinds.
Alas this is too long already, back to either exams or gambooling.(flippin a coin)
Toods.
Never really was down at all this session, would love to play a lot more today but I have to run to work, got 15 minutes to get there and I still haven't finished this post. I'd love to post some hands, but don't have the time right now. Sorry for the short report.
Decided to make a random blog post caz it really tilts the shit out of me everytime I log onto LP.net and I have to see milkman's ugly mug on the featured blog front page. The man doesn't even smile! Who wants to look at that, let alone read his random crap! GG ur life milkman. So anyways, more on topic, I need a laptop for the summer and I really want to get a good high end one so if anyone can direct me to a good website where I can order one please let me know. I'm looking into Dell right now and am kind of curious about their 20" laptops that look sick baller (kind of like a mini-desktop pc). Alienware also has some pretty sick looking laptops as well. I've never been a big fan of apple computers, but the MacPowerBook might also be an option I'm looking into. I'd like to know what you guys think. If you can, please post comments / links or whatever to laptops would fit my needs. All I want is something that I can carry around my media on and play poker easily.
This weekend I dont know what I'm doing but I don't want to be in San Diego since a bunch of my friends are leaving other places. I might go back to Vegas to play some of the 10/20 while the main event runs, or if peachy is willing to put me in it, play in the main event myself. That would be one hell of an experience. I'm also trying to figure out what I'm doing for WSOP over the summer. I got a lot of options but some are less attractive than others, probably will end up getting a chill place with Lyric and Pavel or do something like stay at the Wynn for a month and a half.
Lastly, here is a fuckin rockin ass song by 3 of my favorite MC's ft. Thom Yorke: CRS (Child, Rebel, Solider) - Us Placers
well ive made it to around 1700ish again from my 750 roll last time so i guess ill just have to dodge 50nl for a while now. i dunno maybe i just suck at poker but anyway ill be back at 100nl very soon. i really missed playing 24 tables at 100nl, i think its been more than a month now and playing CALL OF DUTY 4 in between sessions really helps a lot with the destressing of poker's sickness. when my redeposit arrives in MB again ill be putting it back on pstars and kinda regroup my forces so to speak, BR will be around 5500 and i guess that'll be enough for my lowstakes multitabling adventure again haha. my supernova quest will end hopefully before my birthday for sure which is on june. ive got 70k vpp already and 100nl multitabling can get me to sn hopefully. god 50nl in pstars for me is like kryptonite
been watching a ton of tv series' lately, i love THE SHIELD and THE UNIT. btw, here's a breakdown of what i did with my 5k withdrawal:
1kusd - home theater system (samsung)
1ksud - nice hp desktop
2kusd - paid debt to wife
note to self:
wait for 1500usd bonus and save points for that coz pstars just rapes me whenever i try to get those cute 50usd bonuses haha
ill be posting graphs and results again as soon as i get back on the 100nl track. bye and goodluck to you guys.

i started out today really feeling that i was definitely playing my a game and getting drawn out on alot and despite losing a few buyins i was in relatively good spirits.
later on i was playing a similar game and started to pick up some cards..
and then i trickled back down to where i started.
and the confidence i worked so hard to build up has vanished again.
so i really don't know anymore. days like this make me want valium and stuff.
i want to say i had bad cards today, because i made an extra effort to fold where i knew i was beat, i think my biggest leak is paying off big hands..
i do feel that i got sucked out on a lot today, but i think most people still bank when that happens, right?
i try to link stuff on forums and get advice when i know i terribly misplay hands and try to improve and stuff, i think
i don't know. once again, i feel like maybe i just dont have what it takes, because 6500 hands have got me nowhere, once again.
I think the biggest thing I've changed in my play style is that when I'm playing 4 tables I focus on ranging my opps and trying really hard to figure out their hand, and then adjusting everything I do according to what their likely hand is and what type of player they are. That leads me to taking some very weird lines sometimes, especially vs the fish. Vs standard players I tend to do standard things, though I try to figure what they have and if they have a hand and I have one, I just go for value town, where if I have a hand and I think they have dick, I try weird shit to induce calls/bluffs. But with the fish I do shit that I normally would never do... case in point is the following hand:
Philly was playing @ 80/0/0.7 over like 50 hands. I was trying hard to watch as many of his hands as possible and figured out that he'd call a flop cbet with any pair or draw and was an overall station. He would donk halfpot into the PFR in 3bet pots with mediocre hands like middle pair and call a raise. Knowing all of that I ended up doing a very weird line in the following hand.
k2o4 : bets $20
PhillyWinner: raises $1.95 to $21.95 and is all-in
k2o4 : calls $1.95
Showdown PhillyWinner: shows (two pair, Eights and Sevens)
k2o4 : shows (a full house, Fours full of Eights)
k2o4 collected $82.90 from pot
Summary Total pot $84.90 | Rake $2
Board
Seat 1: Bashir7000 (big blind) folded on the Flop
Seat 2: PhillyWinner showed and lost with two pair, Eights and Sevens
Seat 3: fickdiewelt folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: ArcticWings (button) folded on the Flop
Seat 6: k2o4 (small blind) showed and won ($82.90) with a full house, Fours full of Eights
Preflop: I was glad to call knowing that philly would almost certainly overcall, plus the raiser was deep and a nit so it made him easier to play against postflop. It turned into a nice family pot anyway.
Flop: I considered donking cause I figured that there was a chance of getting philly to call and maybe a raise from the PFR, but I decided to check cause I figured if it checked around I could call the cbet and philly would probably overcall. But when philly donk'd I automatically figured him to be on some sorta mid PP or a flush draw. So I decided to min check raise cause I knew he'd call that raise with any crap hand.
Turn: The turn I thought there was a good chance he had the flush so I figured I'd make a small bet to get value from PP's (which I was sure he'd call with) and get an all-in raise from his flush. It also set up my river move...
River: I basically put him in but don't fully shove knowing that a flush is coming with me for sure and figuring that the weird line will get him suspicious enough to call with lots of mediocre hands, plus he's a station so fuck it right?
I never min check-raise but this just seemed like the perfect time to do it. And the tiny turn bet was weird as hell but I figured it was perfect for him. Hell, maybe I am overthinking this and he woulda stacked off if I shoved the flop and I just risked missing value, but I feel like the moves like this that I'm doing are definitely increasing my winrate.
My biggest problem right now is how to handle aggro players who aren't maniacs. Guys who play like 35/30 or 45/35 and so on and have an idea of how to play postflop. I can't seem to 3bet them light cause they always call the 3bet, and often get into 4bet wars. So what I tend to do is just tighten up a lot vs em. I am ok vs utter maniacal moronic super donks who play like 70/50 and so on - I just uber nit it up and only play hands I'm willing to get all-in preflop with and just hit them with uber aggression everytime I'm in a hand. But it's the guys who are above regular LAG and below super maniac that fuck me up.
Anyway, that's all for now. The overall update is that I finally won a few buyins after 3 days of breaking even, so that's nice. 3 buyins away from my $2,500 goal before taking shots @ NL100. Let's hope I make those 3 buyins in the next few days and then hit a super heater when I take my NL100 shot. I've said that a million times now and am hoping that if I keep wishing for it then it will happen!
