My last blog entry was from mid-07 when I was on some sort of challenge bit or w/e and it didnt quite import correctly, but regardless I've decided to do an update of me and my life and my poker career.
I decided to play poker professionally in January of 2007 when I grinded a fair amount of 1/2 and had some success in smaller tournaments for a couple thousand dollars. January was my first 10k month and it was great. Over the month I played every day and only had 2 losing days. Was pretty sick. February was pretty mediocre in comparison since I hardly played at all but I still managed to make $2500. In march I didn't play much online, I was still only 20 but I played more at local home games than I did online. I played at 1/2 home games 3-4 times a week and made about 4k and then I luckboxed the $10 rebuy for 13.5k on the last day of the month. Owning up the last day of the month would become a trend for me as I would get owned and hardly play and then play a ton of tourneys the last week of the month and crush something.
April was swingy and ended up break even, and May was pretty depressing. I strung a couple of 1k+ days back to back and had a 6k day in the first week of the month, and then I proceeded to dump my profits for the month taking shots at 2/4 and playing too many high-buy in tournaments. But, obviously since I run good I managed to hit on ultimate bet on the last sunday of the month for 11k in their sunday 200k guaranteed and turned my May into a +11k month.
June and July were mild, I made 2500 in June even though I lost like 4k up at Turning Stone for an event they were having. In July I made about 4k, and then came the sickness...August I didn't play a lot but when I did it went horribly. I was playing over my bankroll in MTTs and dropped 5k in august, lost 1k in september (and I also got married in september, wee congrats me), and I lost another 5k in October. So what was shaping up to be a dominating year had turned into a +35k 10 months. I was already at 40k by the end of may so I pretty much had a really lame 5 month break even stretch due to a lack of playing and playing higher limits than I was used to.
At the beginning of November though I told myself I was going to buckle down and put in some hands at 1/2. I 12-tabled 1/2 6-max for that month and netted $7,500 and I really felt like I was on the right track. December rolled through and I made 3k in the first 3 days of the month in cash games, as well has winning a tournament for 6k on the 3rd. Pokerstars also announced that they were doing a promotion for the top 100 on the TLB, so I decided that I would go for that. I played a lot of tournaments, and it really helped to start off with a win. One day in the middle of the month 2 final tables and a final table bubble put me ahead 5k more and put me in good position to bubble the top 100 TLB, lol. And with no real scores for the rest of the month I managed to have a good run in the $1k sunday million (on the last sunday of the month again) and finished 20th or 19th for like 8k and that solidified my spot in the top 100. The top 100 then played for a pokerstars passport to travel to 8 big tourneys across the world, but I busted pretty early in that thing.
For November and December I managed to rake in about 30k and brought my yearly winnings up to 65k which is an amount I could actually say that I was proud of; But I'm definitely not planning on having a year less than 100k anymore .
January I absolutely crushed, I managed to outright win the $50rebuy on stars twice (once on the last day of the month obv) and made ~33k for the month. In early february I won a seat to EPT San Remo for April, but other than that 10k score it was about a break even month. March was lame, i couldn't catch a break in tournaments and dropped about 6k. But wow what a month April is becoming. San Remo was great, I finished 26th/700 for about 20k American, but I also became friends with (and got 2% of) Jason Mercier who went on to win the event for a cool 1.3 million. Plus I got 3rd in another tourney on stars which puts my April at a whopping $52,000 with two weeks to go. Which is why I obv ordered new license plates for the EVO that say "SIK LIFE" So hopefully my car doesnt get the shit keyed out of it to "put me in my place" for having that license plate.
In other news, I'm moving to vegas either at the end of May or June 1 just in time for the WSOP and I still need to win a main event seat, but I'm guessing I'll have ample opportunity to win a seat to it while I'm there. If you read the whole thing, congratulations, If you didn't....
Cliff notes: I turned pro in Jan 07, made only 65k with high expectations, now currently crushing up ~75k and moving to Vegas soon.
Hopefully I can keep this updated, GG GL LP

wedding was cheap, i paid for a couple things since her parents don't have a lot of money. The marriage probably didn't set me back anything time-wise since I spend too much time online just dicking around anyways and not playing poker. |
