Stupid move
Sheitan, Apr 11 2007
My game has improved a lot the last days and it looks like i don't get any bad beats anymore too. Two excellent news for me and i enjoy playing poker, i decided to play more tourneys from now as it looks like im doing good so far.
Soooo i decided to play that 180 players 4$ tourney on poker stars today and managed to get to the final table, chip leader. Then i did something utterly stupid but i'd like you guys to comment what happened and tell me if i made a mistake (i did make a mistake but any comments would be welcome). Remenber, im just a beginner, any suggestions on that case will be GREATLY appreciated.
Ok, couldn't find the hand, i leaved the table real fast after i lose because i was pretty pissed on my stupidity: im on the SB (50k), everybody falls to me i hold AJo, villain is on BB (40k). Ideal spot, so i 3BB raise, he raises me 3 more. What you have to know is that i spent mucho time with this guy and he took some pots from me and was caught bluffing a lot, playing pretty LAG. I call his re-raise, here comes a low flop, like 4710 rainbow, i push like 4k on a 7k flop and he goes all-in. Normally i would have folded that shit in a heart beat but it was getting personal between him and me (huge mistake here).
I activated the timer, i know he's a big time bluffer and the chances that he's holding a better hand than me are low, and i was 100% sure he didn't hit the flop (wich was true). He forced me to lay down several hands before with air betting agressivly, so i called.
He was holding AKo, no J on turn nor river to suck my way out and i've lost 40k chips in 1 hand. After that i lose to him JJ vs his AKo AI PF, finished 8th.
so my question is, what u guys do in that kind of situation ? is there any guidelines ? did i make the right decision with out being results oriented ? i mean i could have sat on my chips and easily finished top 3 easily and earning more money (216 bucks for the first place). Im trying to think about it and i don't think my decision was bad, am i wrong ?
Anyway during the tourney i hit a Royal flush ! booya !

Starcraft > Poker?
JonnyCosMo, Apr 11 2007
So the past couple days I haven't really been playing. Mainly because I've been talking to a few NL200 regs and we've realized that Mondays and Tuesdays just aren't optimal at the tables since every table is infested with regulars. So, to pass the time I've been playing some Starcraft!! Fun stuff eh? I found this new Abyss Server thing, and have been playing the ladder to kill time. I'm so sick rusty it's pretty sad.
Just played RaiNKhaN 3 games of Zerg vs Protoss and got my ass swept. This picture pretty much sums it up:

Yeah I ate shit... So I'm going to be back at the tables tomorrow morning and hope that the games are better.

23 hours - 2 Finals
tilted fish, Apr 10 2007
Thats right ladies n gents. 2 finals!
One from 8:30am to 11:30 so in like 9 hours and the other from 7pm-10pm.... no joke..fucking SFU
I have locked myself in the house for 2 days trying to study but I have done all kinds of random things... I promised myself I wouldnt play poker and I didnt but spend a good chunk on this site looking at hands... and actually thinking about theory math stuff behind poker...
I had a discussion with some1 about one of the thigns I read in Sklansky book:
You are heads up and cards are dealt between you and opponent.
Your opponent moves all in and tells you he either has AK or AA.
Now I know that there are 6 ways to AA and 16 ways to AK.
so 27% chance he has AA, 73% he has AK.
but this guy was telling me an Ace card is fixed so you either have 3/7 chance of getting AA or 4/7 of chance of geting AK. so (43% of him having AA, 57% AK)
I know his wrong but I couldnt prove him mathematically in time... we were on the bus. but I came up with this, which is alternate way:
The dude was telling me this basically:
Fixed Ace -> (3/7) to get another Ace, (4/7) to get King.
but there is only 4/8 to get Ace dealt and then use that path so divide his % by 2.
and add this
4/8 ways to get this:
K-> and (4/4) ways to get Ace.
So time well spent, next time I see him I can show him whos the king
but why do I do this, I can never cocentrate on school even though I am done for the year after these 2 exams... anyonelse has this syndrome/desease/ whatever you call it.
Microstakes and Neteller support
TianYuan, Apr 10 2007
Soooooooooo, inspired by midians microstakes challenge and the fact that neteller once again gave me the run-around, I decided to play some NL2.
Maaaaaaaaan.
NL2 is soooo eaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasy. EDIT: Played a mini-session (had to stop cause I kept disconnecting), 193 hands, 4 tables, +2 buyins, PT BB 44/100 :D

The NL10 I think is from a few 1 table sessions I did earlier, maybe some left overs.. surprised at the amount of hands.
I've now called neteller 3 times, first time they tell me to send in a copy of a utility bill - done.
Support person I talked to sounded like she was a native speaker.
Ok, nothing happens for like a week, so I call them again, get some guy who's played starcraft for 10 years, wont go into details but pretty funny. Anyway, he tells me they take 9 days to process this stuff.. Also native speaker.
9 days was thursday last week. SOo, I give them easter weekend too, and call them again today (well yesterday).
This time I get to speak to 2 different people - 1 indian sounding girl who speaks way too fast and on a way too bad phone, she then redirects me to some french sounding girl whose phone volume is apparently set to like 0, bleeeeh.
They say 16 days.
I just realized it's been 16 days already. I'll give them a day or two more, but I really dunno what I'm supposed to do, calling them doesnt seem to be doing me much good.
But since they said 9 business days (and I assume they meant 16 business days as well), I guess I'll make deductions for the easter weekend + the other weekends -_-
Everything I touch turns to GOLD
Daut, Apr 10 2007
I've recently been involved in a few staking deals and one teaching deal. I have a couple live tourney deals, had one online sng deal, loaned a friend who plays donkaments a little money to get him started on cash games and i'm teaching someone PLO.
My two live tourney stakes are in Ari "bodogari" engel and Corwin "mig.com" Mackey.
Ari has played 10 tournaments so far and already made a 63k score as well as a cash in the LAPC.

Mig just started playing in his first live tournaments for me. In his very first one, the $2500 event at the bellagio, he has made the final table and is currently in 6th out of 10. 1st place is 220k.

| | Corwin Mackey raises to $8,000 preflop and Joel Casper makes the call. The flop comes AJ8 and both players check. The turn is the A and they check again. The river comes the Q and Casper bets $10,000. Mackey puts him all in and Casper makes the call. Casper turns over K10 for a straight but Mackey flips up AA for quads. Mackey rakes the pot and eliminates Casper from the tournament. |
So sick.
Earlier this year I was staking rainkhan in sngs. We had a buyout option and he did so well in the first week that he bought out. Since then he has won a few online mtts and has won 5 (yes thats correct) main event seats.

My buddy randallin has been just destroying online mtts (particularly on UB) the past 3 months. However, since he is backed by bax/sheets he cant really play any cash games. So I gave him a few k loan to get him started at 1/2 nl. He beat 1/2 so bad he was up to 2/4 by the 2nd day, and he has since won at least 15 buyins there.

Finally, I'm teaching my buddy Corwin (tecknowledgy on stars) PLO. He's really bright and he picked it up really quick and now hes beating the game at like 19ptbb at 1/2 plo. What a sicko.

As for me, I've been playing well in NL lately. Things turned to shit in PLO though. I lost most of my 60/40s 40/60s and intermittently played like shit and lost all my 20/80s and 10/90s. It really sucks when your gutshots get cracked by sets and AAxx overpair all in on the flop doesnt hold up against the nut straight.
I'm still very confident in my PLO game but im going to take a break from it for a while and maybe play some 3/6 5/10 and 10/20 plo instead of 25/50 until i start playing well again. Maybe I'll ask my student for some lessons cause hes murdering children at 1/2.

Today was a pretty good day. Started off at NL200 this morning while I was waking up and played semi-okay for the most part. Played in both the LP.net events to try and get my ladder points up, but seannolan butt raped me with a flopped two pair w/ AK and I turned two pair w/ KJ. Lame! But I got sweet revenge on him in the heads up tournament where I drew him first round. I proceeded to run like a god and sucked out multiple times to apesmash nolan to oblivion. Unfortunately RaSZi raped me the very next round so I was out of that pretty quickly.
So I grabbed some lunch, and decided to suck it up and play the Sunday Million. Why do I do this to myself? So an hour and 45 minutes later I'm suffering on a short stack, and finally picked up AQ and jam it into KK. Woot! Atleast I made $800ish at NL400 while playing the tournament. I'm running at a "staggering" 8.5 ptbb/100hands at NL400 since I've semi-moved up (I still play a lot of NL200 so, I wont say I've moved up until I start playing NL400 full-time).
Here are some hands:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171275 <- K? Moron.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171284 <- There is still a lot of dead money at NL400. My boy actionDJ stacked him about 30 mins after I did, and the guy left the table and went on lift tilt at NL1000 full ring. LOL...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171285 <- Kind of a thin-ish value bet on the river that was right on the border line. I haven't missed a value bet in 2 months btw
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171286 <- Flopped quads, but I think I could have played this better. The guy was very aggressive thou and insta-folded when I jammed in. I was hoping he might have caught some peice of that board.

Pretty Decent Day
JonnyCosMo, Apr 07 2007
I'm honestly thinking that the weekends are just too +EV for playing poker. Tonight I went out to dinner with Lyric, Mango, and their ridiculously super hot super model friend Mogen (like omg omg omg?) So we went to some ghetto place in Oakland to get some Mexican which was really good and while drinking a Corona, it hit me and I told Lyric "God damn, this is soooo -EV eating dinner with you, like wtf, the games are just too juicy." Came up $1200~ Here are some hands from my session this afternoon:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170792 - Pretty standard snap call on this aggro donk.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170796 - Poor sooon2b was just getting molested with such bad luck at all my tables, he seemed a little tilted while making this call.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170797 - It's fun to play against people who constantly make bluffs that make no sense. Thanks for the moneys AA-pete-AA!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170801 - I run infinitly good against sooon2b. I totally 2 outted him on the turn, but was unable to extract max value. I love his turn check here.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170804 - This guy is buddy list material. Thanks for the moneys you station!
Had a couple tough hands as well...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170805 - I probably deserve this.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/170806 - I still suspect a little robbery since this guy was a very aggro player. But I can't do much about it.

Here's a random pic for you guys, you could say I've been knocked off my feet?

New experiments and results
Sheitan, Apr 07 2007
I've been thinking a lot recently and analyzed my game, i came to the conclusion i was playing to LOSE money. I made some major changes and adapted.
So, i tried something different today and it worked. This is the first winning session for a loooooong time and it feels good to be a winner again.
Poker is such a tough game, poker is just like real life and that's why maybe so many people play it: you have to take the right decision at the right time. Each decision you take will either lead to sucess or defeat, at the end of the session (life) you will be a winner, or a loser (or break even). Poker pros impress me, im not making a living of poker, so how one could feel when he earns his life as a poker pro ? i mean this is so fucking tough, nobody's prepared to that but some have special abilities and will just succeed, like the SwedeDude said, they are gifted.
Anyway i feel like a new man today and i need to buy a new keyboard due to my recent uber tilting kung-fu sessions, wich is EV- considering i ll have to spend a hundred dollars for a new one meh, whatever i had to let it out this time.
So here's some hands i played, any feedback is greatly appreciated:

ZAAAAP!!! Ok so let me take you through my thought process on this hand. I have 98 suited preflop, DF_Newb raises, I call, standard. I believe he precieves me as a tight/solid player incapable of making moves because in all honesty, I try to avoid making moves vs fellow LPer's / friends. So I flop an open-ended straight draw on a ace-high flop but there is a flush draw which I dont have also present, so he does a very standard c-bet and I dont take much time and call. This is where it gets interesting... because from my time playing with DF_Newb I know he doesn't back down when he thinks he's getting floated light so I suspected there was a good chance he'd double barrel with air a high % of the time. I dont really want to go into why I had this other read, because he probably will be reading this, but let's say I know that his range here on the turn is this: 66, 77, A7s, A6s, AQ, AK, or absolute air. I say this is air more than 60% of the time easily (at the time I was feeling that 3 out of 4 times this is air). The general idea is that I dont think he likes to put himself into a spot to bet/fold a marginal hand on this turn (such as AJ or weaker) and I suspect he check-calls this turn more than he bet/folds it.
This is where I feel I made a mistake, if I know there is a high chance he has absolute crap when he leads this turn, then I should have just raised him and pot committed myself. At the time, I know that a good portion of the deck is a scare card, because I planned on bluffing the clubs as well if they hit (assuming he checks to me, or attempts some sort of blocker bet I have fold equity to smash). To make a long story short, I decided to take the safe route and call, just to see what he does on the river. I wasn't exactly sure if he was crazy enough to triple barrel with air, but I was kinda hoping that he wasn't that suicidal and that he'd just give up at this point with a bluff.
River came a 6 pairing the bottom card. I know he thinks thats a terrible card to bluff. I hope he knows that I know that the 6 is a terrible card to bluff as well. He checks to me... which immediately tells me the following things: He doesn't have a hand he thinks he can value bet. It's possible that he could have been checking a monster, having me read on a draw that just missed in hopes I bluff the river. But that makes little sense to me since as I stated above, I believe he views me as a tight/solid player incapable of making moves AND I believe he knows that I know how bad of a card that river is to bluff at. It makes no sense that he'd check a hand to me here, and since I had him on a fairly narrow range of hands on the turn, I believe he now has air, unfortunately 9-high doesn't have showdown value vs air...
So I brainlessly forgetting to think about the following things: What could I be representing here? I'm capable of real thin value bets / value shoves, but I'm not sure he's seen any of them yet. Like, there is a fair size range of hands I will play this exact line with: AK, AQ, 6Xs w/ flush draw on the flop, or sometimes even any ace thinking I can steal a chop. Sadly, I dont really have a reason to think he knows this about me unless he's seen some of my hh's I've posted in the past month on LP (which I shouldn't really expect him to stalk me on this or anything). Thinking back on it, I think a bet of $85 would have done an excellent job on this river. The shove just looks too much like I want a fold here, and was a dead give away.
So after getting the wind knocked out of my sails from this hand, I decided to take a break. I might get on and play later tonight, but right now I just want to review my session. I was up 3 buyins at one point during my session, but only ended up $80 when I quit. My hats off to you DF_Newb, you got some balls sir. I feel totally owned right now.

So I came home for the weekend cause I wanted to take care of some poker business stuff -- meeting with a lawyer to get some contracts written for my live backing deals.
Anyway, so im sitting at the kitchen table and my mom starts shaking her head at me and goes "such a waste...its so disappointing that youre not going to school anymore, such a waste of math talent"
So i look at my mom and go "If i had a 15 inch penis would it be a waste of talent if I wasnt a pornstar?"
To my surprise Kathy actually laughed. And then she looked at me and said "Yes, i guess it would be a waste"
OMFG pwned
