Run worse... + some hands
  Baalim, Oct 12 2007

sigh... very frustrating day i think i played decent... god damn nearly 6h session and only 2.4k hands? (4 tabling obv)

Well i ran like shit today... unlike the nit "my equity sux" rant where AA gets cracked, i just couldnt hit shit when i shoved draws and made some moves i missed every single time no exeption.

How in the fuck can someone be down -1,500 on equity alone in 2k hands? (i were down nearly that in the first 800).

anyway here is the usual EV bitching graph:

ok back to the hands... i dont save most of my hands but here are a couple:

Villian is a regular (apparently not a great one limping button), i raise from the blinds big so my range here is quite small and he is NEVER calling with a weak ace and he is not limping a strong one so i made up my mind... this player DOES NOT have an ace, he could have 45s.. but i think he slowdowns on 1 street, either flop turn or river.

So i represent a PP and there is no value in c-betting here, and its much much less likely he bluffs it if i c-bet so i say to myself... "he either have Quads or he has SHIT..." and well i put my stack in the middle and i was right, lost the hand yet i like the call, reads are useless if you are not willing to put your money in.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/292861

Here is just where i got nice value of KQ after building up a crazy image vs a fish... the turn shove well this fish is the kind of player who calls pf with a PP and usually bets this flop is cheked to him with a decent hand so i tought he definitelly missed that board, i were wrong obv but i made it up later .

Something hilarious I've noticed
  TianYuan, Oct 11 2007

Ok so some details to explain why I find this funny:
I started playing poker in late november 2006. I've played approximately 700 000 hands.

From august to present day:

From may to august (with a few microstakes hands added in from later dates)

April

(SICK TILT MONTH)
I don't have any graphs older than this, since when I moved to UB I invested in a legit version of pokertracker and PAHud, and I didn't move my old databases to the new one (I might still have them somewhere tho).

During Mars I could barely play due to all my money being stuck in neteller (so I was playing like NL5 and 5$ HU sit n gos).

This is how many hands I've played total on PS:
614 155

SO. I barely played in November so between December 2006 and February 2007 I played 500 000 hands.

Sickest life?

Oh and to add to the life tilting amount of hands that is, I was breakeven for all of february after losing 60% of my roll when moving up to NL50 (I moved down immediately as soon as I was down to 16 buyins but I then proceeded to play a two day marathon - with sleep - where I lost another 500 on NL25 and 10).

So I played 500 000 hands and made next to no money (600$ was my bankroll when I moved to UB).

Awesome.

My current bankroll, with rakeback added in, is at around 9k (I'm not sure exactly how much rake I've got coming but it should be around 9k).

Note to LPers at Pokerstars
  TianYuan, Oct 11 2007

TianYuan on PS is 90% of the time not me. I play almost all my poker on prima nowadays.

Just thought I'd mention this since the few times I do logon to play (donk around at microstakes limit or no limit mostly) I tend to get messages from LP members.. So in case I'm not answering it's cause it's my mother playing =]

Also, I've been sick lazy this month, meant to play a lot but got about 0 motivation. Played like 9k hands, and half of those were in one long 13 hour 4 tabling session.

Bleh, maybe I need a break to get motivated again

Worst Morning Ever?
  JonnyCosMo, Oct 10 2007

How bad do I run? Storytime:

I study for my Journalism and Media Studies current topics test til 3am last night. Wake up at 6:30am to find I have no coffee left at my place. So I get to school early at 7:30 in hopes to get a cup from Starbucks... and the line is out the door. No go. I proceed to the book store and to get scantron #2178, the scantron form I thought I needed for my test. Get to my class room (in a total zombie like state) and my TA tells me I needed scantron #2155 or something. Oops, but she says it's ok and that I can take the test on the scantron I got. So we have 50 minutes to take this test which is 40 questions true or false, open notes. Not so bad right? I forgot my notes on my bed... Sick life! So I get to the end of the test where it says I need to bubble in my student ID# on the scantron, but form #2178 doesn't have that part for me to fill out. So I ask my TA what to do, and she says I have to go to the book store to get form #2155. So I put the scantron that I already filled out in the back pocket of my backpack and ran to the book store. I pick up form #2155 and ran back to my class room (with 10 mins left to go in class) to transfer over my answers from #2177 --> #2155. I reach around to get my backpack... found that I forgot to zip up the back pocket. Guess what! No scantron! So my TA gives me the test back and is like well... hurry up and finish! Redo the entire test off of what I could remember I answered the first time in 10 mins then turned it in.

Worst day ever? /wrists

Naysayers
  NeillyJQ, Oct 10 2007

You guys all say I'm terrible, a lucksack, and other stupid shit.

I've been playin cash for 5 months and I've learned to spot almost all ev situations, and play them well, and ya, i went busto a couple times, its a learning process.

I play 1/2 in the casino and I play it online because I have an awesome comfort level there, and I just flow with that game and dominate. I have literally 150 hrs of 1/2 play in the casino under my belt. Let me do my thing and watch and see.

If my roll ever hits certain areas I go into caution mode and rebuild from a limit where I'm deep from.

Most of ya'll sayin shit aren't even NL50 pla<x>yers.

I manage my money well, and attack when I see +ev.

Start rootin for your fellow LP'ers instead of negating.

GL everyone,
Ryan

Tournaments
  NeillyJQ, Oct 09 2007

After long consideration, I started grinding tournies inestead of cash, because of the skill level difference in my opponents.

Its been going well, I went 3/3 in the 5400 FPP Sunday million seat, theres a nice $600. Playing in all the tournies from $3 rebuys to the $109's.

So we'll see how this goes, if my roll hits 1k its back to NL50. (Its at $2750 right now)

GL everyone,
Ryan

Thank You SSNL!
  JonnyCosMo, Oct 08 2007

This is a special thanks to all the 2+2 regulars who play small stakes on PokerStars and FullTilt. Without you SSNL guys, this blog entry would not be possible. Thanks again for all the financial support and all you've given me over the years.

A. Thank you carrotsnake for my Ergo Proxy DVD series. It was really a very entertaining show! At $24.99 per DVD, I pretty much was able to get the entire series the first time we played! Thanks again <3

B. Thanks pennpal for my Bose Head phones. They are the best set of head phones I've ever had. And I felt these were a really hard earned pair of head phones to get considering you play so freakin tight.

C. Thanks Acemanhattan for my iPhone. Sorry I purchased it a week after it came out, so I didn't get to cash in on that $100 rebate that they offer now. No worries, you paid it in full!

D. A very special thanks to brudman for my new HP desktop computer. This baby is equipped with that new Intel Quad Core technology, 600gb's of hard drive space (not including the external hard drive), NVIDIA 8600 GeForce graphics card, and 3090mb's of DDR Memory. The entire system was around $1700 total after I installed the video card, and you were nice enough to pay every last cent. You are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you.

E. Thank you catcher3333 for my Logitech lazer point mouse. I was able to purchase this after re-stealing your retarded min-reraise preflop for the 50th time.

F. Thank you luckybacon for my HP laptop. Sorry I don't use it much. I promise the next time someone gives me $1200+ to spend, I will make a wiser investment into an item that I will be using more than once a year.

G. Thanks greg1osu for my triple lamp that I got from Target. It was on sale. Thank god for that too because you almost didn't give me enough for it!

H. A very special thanks to FGators26 for my duel 24" monitors. At $899 a piece, these babies make multi-tabling sooooo much easier than my old 17"!

I. Thank you nsd4eva for the very comfy leather chair that I sit my ass on while I play. I was thinking about getting a second (nicer) one, but you run like god, so I guess I'll make someone else pay for the next one.

J. Say hello to my 500gb external hard drive complete with all the music / videos from my old computer. I pretty much have every mp3 I downloaded back in the Napster days on that external hard drive. Thanks a lot for this FoofChunk! No really, I am forever in your debt.

K. Thanks BGnight for my 80gb video iPod. Had to replace the old one because it was only 60gb and that's just too small. Gotta keep with the latest fashion yo~!

L. Thanks needfood for my fan. It keeps the air flowing in my room nicely. It's definitly a must have with San Diego weather.

Thanks to all SSNL over at 2+2 Forums once again! You guys are rockstars.

My experience
  NeillyJQ, Oct 08 2007

Ok, sittin here smokin a joint thinkin about poker, and figured I'd write up a biography of my poker past.

Aug 03' - I get back from Taiwan and see Rekrul and Nazgul switched to poker, I saw some correlation between the two and choose to do the same.

During this time I never read a book or anything, just played off pure heart. I did this for the next year, and won 2 small tournaments ($1000, and $150) during this time, but went busto instantly cuz i was playing NL50 6max with a 4 BI br bank then.

For the next year I played tournament poker, and got really good at it by 05'. I started cashing in tournament poker on a high enough % where I was pulling some profit.

Beginning of 06' came, and I got my first big score of $5,300 from a $3 rebuy.

I went to Atlantic City with the money and lost some, but had a great time. I played at the tag in the 2/5 games everynight, vs some realllllllllly good pla<x>yers. It was like a lesson everyday. Now when I go play live anywhere I just dominate cuz of the month I spent in AC.

Came back to reality and started playing online again and my good friend DooMeRFD taught me how to play cashgames correctly, then I read a few books and learned the fundamental theorem of poker, as well as deepened my learning of the deep math concepts that accompanies poker.
I also used sakisaki's video, and Daut44's video as good learning tools and recommend them to everyone. I think you can find li<x>nks on there blogs or under one of our forums

From then on, I ran $18 into $3990 before going on a crazy tilt run losing my br the first time.

After that, I'm thinkin, FUCK POKER, but what the hell, I give it another go after like 2 days (yeah, its an addiction)

This time I managed to work to NL50 and dominating again, but my arrogant ass thought I was good enough to play with the big boys and I lost my roll soon shortly there after.

Next time "this is July" - I tell myself, if I lose at poker I have to quit for atleast 6 months, maybe a year. If I want to play I need to win and not go into the games where I'll lose my roll.

I do well, run off 5k and cash it out.
Move into new apartment - furnish it - buy tv - etc.

Next time around is fucking sick. I build my roll and dominating NL50, and get 3rd in a tourney for 4k, +2.3k BR)

Then go completely ice cold the next day and lose all of it.
Then $1500 from my bank account.

-$8,000 day - worst day ever

So since I can't put anymore on stars for a week I ask our good friend Rush for a loan (Still have money in the bank to cover it if it went bad), and turn the 300 into $3k in 2 days.

Paid him back, and got deep in the $100 $25k gntd at night on stars, and got bad beat the fuck out when i was 2/20 left, losing AAvJJ,AKv55,A4vKT

And here I am, just got done running like shit on NL100, and playing pretty poorly as well.

And I've come to a realization. I'm just not good enough to play with them anymore. NL50 is the only place I can play for the next few months.

1/2 I'm great at because I play it a ton at the casino, but I'm staying out of there til I hit 8k.

So here we go, on a mission to 8k by Nov.1.
The 8k is what I lost all together..

This run has taught me about how deep variance is, is to always be playing on atleast 40 bi's, and to be willing to use your entire stack whenever needed, and also good opportunities to bluff.

So I got $1,500, 3 years of experience, and ounce of weed, and a dream to make it to 1/2 by christmas, and be good enough to stay and play there for a long time.

Wish me luck boys,
Ryan (DReaMe)

San Diego Life
  JonnyCosMo, Oct 08 2007

Life is good, school is picking up so I'm doing more and more reading. I had my first 3 midterms last week, and did fairly good on my first 2, but the 3rd one (the one that I thought I'd be the most comfortable with) went to shit since the professor structured the questions in the most ridiculous way. Hella gay yo! Anyways, I thought it be cool to post some pics of whats going on in SD. Been playing a lot of poker during the weekdays but not so much during the weekends...

Picture of the sunset on Mission Bay San Diego from the bridge

Mainly this is due to my obsession with going to Mission Bay or Pacific Beach and getting trashed then crashing at my friend's house. My transportation is very limited so far since I dont have a car. I basically use my bike to get me places. The plan was to get a car 2 weeks ago, but I've been super lazy on that part mainly because I really haven't had a free weekend to myself yet. On the bright side, it's nice not to have to worry about how I'm going to get my ass back home when I'm drunk. And it's pretty sweet waking up in a baller pad such as this:

My second home! My friends have such a baller pad.

My weekend bed! That couch is way more comfy than my bed.

And as for life...

Too bad this doesn't come with an audio clip

Surfers on Acid = Best shooter ever

In the city!

Things to note if / when you guys ever visit San Diego: The Gaslamp district downtown has some sweet happy hour specials that last all the way to 9pm at some places. The nightclubs downtown are pretty sweet as well (I've only been to two of them, but they were both good). The Yard House has the sickest selection of beer you will ever see. The Typhoon (in PB) on fridays is the place to be, period. Don't gamble in cardrooms in San Diego (or California in general for that matter) because they are rigged and will rake $4 every single hand EVEN IF YOU DON'T SEE A FLOP. Ok hope that helped you guys.
