Finally got around to playing two more steps, a step 5 ($700) and step 6 ($2100)

Won both.

I think this is proof that FTP is rigged, and stars is not - at least for me anyway.

So new tallies are:

3 Step 5s ($700) played, won first, got 4th in secon which got me a retry, and won the 3rd with my retry.

3 Step 6s ($2100) Played two with tickets from step 5s, won both. Bought in direct once, won that.

Total investments $3500, winnings $17500 + 20k W$ and one $2100 ticket left.

I might not be rainkhan or mig, but i do my bit.
  TwistedEcho, May 02 2008

So as most people know, i'm staked by ket/tom for live poker. So far i've managed to drop maybe $20k in makeup, which is clearly really easy to do.

Since im playing ~$70k worth of wsop events, i suggested maybe they wanted to add WSOP sats to my staking to be nice and reduce their variance. Well obviously i went 0/4 so far in $650s, and just lost even more of their money.

The other day while pretty drunk/stoned (bigred will confirm how drunk i can get based off AIM convos we've had i dont remember, and luckily for me he didn't save logs!) I suggested to ket/tom that maybe they wanted to add some steps to my staking deal - since mig has won double figure seats, and i've watched tom play a few $2ks that seemed sick soft.

So a few days ago they agreed to stake me for $700/$2k sngs. I played a $700 the next morning since it looked soft and won, and got myself a nice $2k ticket. I played a $2k the next day which looked soft, along with a 700. The 700 went pretty bad (it has a worse structure than the 2ks, 1500chips 10min levels instead of the 3k starting stack the 2ks have). I finished 4th in the 700 i played when UTG shoved 12bb and i called with AJ and didn't win vs AK.

The 2k however went well as the random idiots played every hand, and i was patient and finally ended up HU. HU was a touch rocky, but i finally destroyed him when he tried to bluff me, and then once he had ~6bb it didn't take long. SHIP THE WSOP SEAT

Anyway, i played my second $2k sng earlier today, and while it went a lot worse than the last one (i got allin AJ v KK and 66 v KK) i won a second seat!

So currently nowhere near mig since he has 10+, and tom has 4 i think but i'm hoping to win maybe 4/5 before the WSOP rolls around.

Sorry this post isn't more interesting, i just was kinda happy to go 2/2 in $2k sngs and win two seats, so thought id let you all know! If im feeling nice/less lazy i might upload HHs.

so cliffnotes, played two 700s and won one, 4th in the other(which gives me a retry at another $700) and won the two $2ks i played

(oh and for anyone still wanting a FR video... i kinda got bored of FR and making a video seems less fun now, so who knows if i'll get around to that, sorry!)

Hand Histories For My Tournaments
  TwistedEcho, Feb 13 2008

Ok, finally got them sorted, here are the HHs for my 10r 3rd place finish, and my sunday mulligan cash. As usual, you don't need to pay to view them, just have a PXF free account.

10r 3rd place finish

Free Account HH
Paid Account Version

$216 Sunday Mulligan 1st place finish

Free Account HH
Paid Account Version

Didn't bother checking them so hopefully these both work fine and links are ok etc, obv reply here if there are any problems/poker related questions.

Enjoy!

EDIT FOR DUM PPLZ - Obv didn't mean to check behind with 7s full, FTP didn't popup and timebank isn't auto, so i timed out and it checked

Live poker is lol
  TwistedEcho, Feb 13 2008

First of all, really sorry i haven't uploaded a video yet. Since my propbet i have played maybe 3k hands of cash and several tournaments. I basically took 3/4 days off straight after my bet for my sisters 21st, and was drunk for most of that, and then chilled for a few days till FTOPS started. I decided to really focus on tournaments for the two weeks of FTOPS and play less tables so i haven't managed to make a video yet.

I will however be uploading both my FTP mulligan 1st place win, and my 10r 3rd place on PXF once the site stops running so slow, so hopefully that will keep you guys happy until i make a cashgame video! I'd imagine i won't make one till after FTOPS has finished (which is this weekend) but what i might do is record myself playing the $2500 2day event and 100r PLO if people are interested in that?

Anyway, i'm currently back home w/ my parents for a week because its closer to the Grosvenor Poker Tour event thats happening in walsall (crappy place in england). Its one of the bigger tournaments in england, they have a leg in a city each month with a few smaller tournaments and a £1k ME which is pretty big for england. I'm playing a £220 NLHEfo, £330 NLHE double chance and £250 PLOfo and then the £1k NLHE ME.

In the £220 NLHEfo my table looked fairly soft other than dave colclough. About 20 hands in at 25/50 (6k starting stacks) EP limps, button limps and i have QQ in sb. I raise to 250 and they both call pretty quick. Flop comes TT8r and i bet 600 and the EP instaminraises to 1200. Button tanks and folds, and i figure i can't fold here vs some live moron and i'll checkfold to a big turn bet, and vb if it goes check check. Turn is a T and i check. He has 4525 left, 4k in 1k chips, and he throws in the 525. I figure i have to play for stacks here, and checkraise to 1500 total. He calls and river is an 8 for a final board of TT8T8. I instashove and he snapcalls, i ask if he has quads and he shows JTd, i fold. Guy next to me 'so you had nothing then?' .... well i didn't beat quads! Next hand someone limps and i throw my 700 chips in with AK hoping to look like tilt, he folds, next hand blinds went up to 50-100 and someone raises to 250 so i shove 77 and he wins the race with AQ.

The £330 was last night, and i hated the double chance element of it. You paid £300 for 7000 tournament chips, but you got T3500 and a voucher for the other 3500 when you sat down. Blinds were 25/50 and you could take the second stack anytime after the first hand. If you busted or got to the end of level 2 (50/100) you had to take the second stack.

I guess the structure is to keep donks happy and give them a second chance when they bust, but it just meant everyone played 65bb deep for 45mins, and then ave stack was like 40bb for the second level. I was the only one who took the second stack asap and got some weird looks lolz. Two donks at my table had doubled up early anyway, so it clearly was correct to take it. I didn't play any interesting hands really, one time it was folded to me in the SB and i raise AA to 300 at 50/100. BB is some 70yr old nit who calls fast. I have about 7000 still and he covers. FLop comes J86hh and i bet 400, he makes it 1500. I fold pretty fast and he shows 88. Dumb old people. I then move table and one guy limps so i raise to 400 from the CO with QQ. SB has 3500 and calls, limper calls. Flop comes QT9dd and SB leads for 1200, other limper folds. I figure i dont need to hollywood since hes commited and shove, he snapcalls JTo and turn K.

I'm down to 2300 at 75/150 and its folded to the sb who completes. I probably should shove but i just check my Q4o. Flop comes A44hh and we both check. Turn 9 he checks, i bet 200 he makes it 700 i 'think' and call. Turn T he bets 1300 and i shove for 1650 total and he folds lolz. Then some old UK pro limps UTG, utg+1 limps, bigstack who doesn't seem good limps and sb completes. I have AKc in bb, and possibly should shove here, but instead i raise to 1k. UTG pro folds, utg+1 shoves for 1500 total, and second limper calls pretty fast... loooooool. I can't reraise so call the 500 more, and the flop comes 345.

I have like 2700 left, and pretty sure the second limper has a pair and won't fold. We check it down (turn 2 river J) and he has 88. V next hand i have like 2700 and post my sb. CO limps for 150 and hes awful, so i shove A9o in sb. I cba to raise a normal amount, and he never has a good hand there so im happy picking up the 375 in the pot, and if he calls good for him. He says he 'knew i was going to do that' and goes into the tank. I'm tempted to laugh at him for knowing and not calling with anything good, and he finally calls with A8. He hits an 8 and i bust. I say nice hand etc, and he tells the table how he knew my range was huge etc. Sick reads.

My friend still had a ton of chips at this point, so i go find out what cashgames are running. They have £50 (£2-£2 blinds) and $100 PLO (£2-£5 blinds) running. 100PLO is full and there is a seat at the $50 so i get that and buyin for £200 since i figure thats a reasonable amount. I haven't played any PLO live, so i expected it to be fairly soft. There was one old woman with about 300, a guy to my right with about 200 and everyone else had 50-150. I hate how short lots of the live UK games run

Anyway as i sit down, i notice all the players have lots of cards, way more than 4. I'm kinda confused but don't want to look dumb and ask whats going on. I get dealt into the next hand and get 6 cards... ok... I figure its cool as long as i don't have to discard any sometime!! I quickly work out its 4-6card omaha, with the button each hand choosing how many cards, awesome!

First few hands i watch people play awful and bust and then rebuy for £100 or so. It seems the standard hand is everyone limps for £2, someone makes it £10 and then we see a 5-7way flop (depending how many people at the table) and then just get allin on the flop. I limp with QQxxx in 5card omaha and flop top set vs two random hands and win a nice pot early, and then i have x45678 in 6card omaha and raise to £10 and get called by all 5 other people. Flop comes 652 and SB pots with like £100 total, and MP reshoves for £210. I figure i probaly have decent equity here vs even the flopped straight, and reshove and SB calls.

Turn i make the nuts and SB folds and MP shows 56xxx for top 2 and he had some random gutshot too... lozl.

So i'm quickly up to £600 or so when some guy in a wheelchair sits to my left with £500, he instantly loses 100 first hand, and im hoping to get into a pot with him. Few hands after i get KKxxxx in 6card omaha and limp, as expected someone makes it £10 and we all call. Flop comes KJ7r and PFR checks, and its checked to me on button. I bet £50 into the £70 pot which was a mistake since there are so many wraps that people can have with 6cards that i really need to be potting it here. Wheelchair guy in SB calls, and BB checkraises allin for like £110 total. I reshove and wheelchair guy calls claiming he has 12 outs. Turn As, river 3s putting backdoor spades. I say 'i guess i dont win it all anymore' and show KK, wheelchair guy shows QT4422 (guess he thought if he made a set he wins.. lol) and other dude claims he had a smaller set.

Wheelchair guy INSTANTLY annouces hes leaving and moves to another table, fucker. I then go on mad tilt and play every hand and down to about £150 (cba reloading since im tilting).

We see a flop of Kh 8h 4x and i have AQh4467. PFR bets £50, EP repots to 200 i get it in, PFR folds. I say 'im probably behind but have outs' EP says 'you are ahead probably'. I show 44 and ask if its good, no reply. Turn and river blank out, and he turns over KK. Not sure if he was being a douche or figured i had a huge draw.

I decided best not to rebuy since im going to be on crazy monkey tilt and finish down £300. Its really odd how losing small amounts of money really bothers me live (and losing dumb pot like the KK one) but online i wouldn't care at all and just reload and keep playing.

I then wait 30mins for my friend to bust and come home. Today i'm playing a £250 PLO tournament which i assume is 4card omaha but who knows. If i bust in time im coming back to play the FTOPS $300 6max rebuy, otherwise i guess i'll get some sleep. The FTOPS starts at 2am, and the £1k starts at 3pm, so hopefully i can get enough sleep inbetween to be ok.

Anyway, thats enough rambling - will update how the PLO/ftops/£1k go at some point, and will post links for my 10r and FTP tournaments once PXF is back up and running. Let me know if recording the $2500/100rplo is worth it since its going to be a loooong video most likely, and i'm not doing that if no one is going to watch it!

WON MY STUPID PROPBET
  TwistedEcho, Jan 31 2008

So i cleverly went out on tuesday, stayed up 40hours, got wasted and ended up sleeping all of wednesday...

Forget taking a day off, i left myself 6500 hands for the last day. Obviously wasnt going to be a huge problem, and i played a nice relaxing 2-3k session during the day where i crushed souls and was up about 7 1/2 buyins. I then had a sleep and woke up ready to 24 table to finish off my bet, and ran maybe worse than i've ran yet in the bet. All my other terrible sessions were me playing badly, but this one i didnt do anything wrong and got fked over again and again. Everytime i 3bet AK, some shortstack would shoving AA giving me 2:1, i never won a single race allin preflop, and i got one outered for the second time during 100k hands (and i think there was a set over set in this session too, lolz). It got to the point everytime i got KK i expected someone to have AA!

Fun bad beat of the 100k hands

Jan 31 (it might look ok, but trust me i ran horrible! - just lucky all my hands i lost were vs shortstacks)

Entire Bet

So all together i made $9266 from playing, $5k from the bet and $1953 in rakeback, for a total of $16219 for 19 days of 100nl, not bad.

While 24 tabling, it works out at as $29/hour rakeback, and my final hourly was $126 from playing, so it was $155/hr.

For those of you who actually play lots of FR as their main game, here is a few things i'd advise you on.

1 - At this low a level, game selection isn't really needed. However, you can only play 24tables on stars, so its probably better to not sit at the really bad ones. Skip ones with like $4 ave pots and 10% players to flop, and just play the better looking ones. Also no harm in leaving tables which are just regs, since while most of them suck its the fish who give you the money.

2 - DONT SET PROPBETS FOR HAND NUMBERS! Seriously, there were so many days i knew i was either going to lose money, or play badly but HAD to play for the propbet. While setting attainable targets is cool, don't burden yourselves with a finacial bet unless you really need the motivation. If i hadn't been playing for the propbet, i'd have probably made even more money since my worse sessions wouldnt have happened, and i'd have wanted to play more when i had a good session (but i was too burnt out to keep playing once i hit a nice number of hands)

3 - Review your play. End of every session, load up pokertracker/holdem manager whichever you use and look at all the big pots you win/lose. Play with filters to see if small pairs utg are losing money. Try to identify patterns.

4 - Consider getting coaching. Even if its just paying someone whose a proven winner to sweat you play, they will most likely find leaks that you don't even realise are leaks. Maybe you overplay AK preflop, maybe you play big pairs too passive postflop, maybe you don't steal enough - there are tons of things you might do as 'standard' that are bad, and you'll never catch without someone else helping or a ton of experience.

5 - Don't berate fish, i did it sometimes out of boredom, but its just retarded. So what if they limpreraise AJ and crack your AK - you want that to happen! (tbh i berated the regs mostly, but still bad if i was being serious!)

There are a ton of actual poker related comments i could make, i might make a post sometime in the next week, but possibly not. I'm afraid i didn't get around to making a video yet since i've been having trouble with the audio. I guess i could make one without taking and just post it to keep people happy, or i might wait till i fix whatever is making my mic sound like im whispering. Regardless, i promise i will post a video in the next week at least, most likely will be monday/tuesday now

Quick propbet update
  TwistedEcho, Jan 29 2008

So i decided not to sleep, and ended up playing more hands. I basically played on and off between 9pm and 9am, and then i just 16 tabled from 10.30am till 4.30pm without any breaks.

I played some really really horrible poker, i wasn't winning and i was doing really retarded stuff, but i did get more hands in!

This might not look like much, but for me i've never played this many hands in a week usually, let alone one long session! Again, no idea where the hand discrepancy is coming from between pokertracker and graph.

bahahaha i tilt bad!
  TwistedEcho, Jan 29 2008

So i ran out of food yest, and ordered takeout with the plan of going shopping today. I woke up about 5pm still really tired, so went back to bed till 10pm and ordered pizza, i'm so lazy

I played a few hands while watching tv and talking on msn and generally fucking around and wasnt really playing well. For some reason my pokergrapher was claiming i was up $650 from like 3k hands, but PT got 500 hands less, and said it was only 3bi. I haven't totally worked out what the issue is, since both pokergrapher and pokertracker have the same total of hands for the propbet, just this one day was off. I think maybe its counting some hands in pokergrapher that i played the night before, but pokertracker counts them as the day before?

Anyway, after messing around online for a while, i just fired up 24 tables and decided to play for a long time. I'm not entirely sure how long i played, it was about 4hrs and by the end i was playing horrible. I played way too many awful hands to mention and just did about everything a bad player would do. I also started berating people for playing their hands badly and not stacking me during setups, and berating regs for being generally bad at poker

I finished the session off with an attempted missclick - utg reg limps, two other limpers and sb completes, so i make it 99 in the BB with AcAx. Probably doesn't matter what i do there as utg limped with KK (flop Kxx all clubs). Turn was a Q so i was about to kill myself, but river A and i ship a pot - he wasn't best pleased.

I also ran a ridic spewy 3barrel bluff with air, which probably would have worked if he didnt river the nuts. He timebanked the river and i really thought he was going to fold, and planned to show - but he finally called w/ the nuts. Dunno who checks the nuts on the river with 1 1/2psb bet left AND then slowrolls. Obv spent the next 10mins telling him to die. I wouldnt be suprised to find i get a chat warning when i check my emails tomorrow.

aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, the main point of all this is i played all the hands i intended to play which is good, and still made some money despite some awful awful tilt. I guess i'll post my pokergrapher screenshot just for laughs, i don't think i want to post any hands! (i did run AA/KK into sets at least 4 times, and i clearly don't ever fold so got stacked on those!)

I played from like 11pm till 8am, which went over the pokerstars 00:00 time, so half the hands are shown as Jan 29 even though they weren't really. I'll just post both sections so you can see how disgusting i played for my last 5k hands.

Jan 28

Jan 29

Total Jan 28 session

Wonderful spewy graph for session

So that makes it a total of 88047 hands played, and with my 5k spew session, i dropped slightly below 5ptbb, to 4.79ptbb.

This means i have 3 days left, and 12000 hands to play, which will be easy. I'm probably going out tonight (tuesday) in like 10hours time to our poker society, mainly because i haven't gone out/done anything much during this bet, and most of my poker friends from manchester will be there. Then i'll play a lazy 6-8k hands while watching TV probably, and ideally wrap this bet up on wednesday and take thursday off and hopefully make a video or two.

Slow sundays, bad for propbet
  TwistedEcho, Jan 27 2008

So i set my alarm to wake me up for the warmup incase i overslept (i generally don't use an alarm) but my mum phoned me at midday (warm starts at 5.45pm). My sleeping was all messed up so when i finally got back to sleep i ignore my alarmclock and reset it for the mil.

I 16 tabled for about 3 1/2 hours while in the mil until i cashed, and then started one tabling the mil. I think i played pretty well and my bustout hand i think was standard. Folded to me in the SB with 20bb and KTo, and stealthmunk in the BB. I think if im raising KTo here, i can't raise fold so i raise to 3bb and call his shove, and he has TT. Against his range this is probably standard, but sucks to have to bust like that.

Then i took a short break and fired up 24 tables, and played until i got bored. I didn't bother reloading tables that got short too so by the end i think i was only 16 tabling. Got in about as many hands as i wanted to anyway, so if i can put in a nice big session on monday i'll have the bet wrapped up. Ideally i want to finish on wednesday so i can spend thurs making a video since im away this weekend and probably won't be bored enough to make a video after that.

Two quick hands, i got really bored today so started telling people their hands before shoving river.

Maybe this will motivate some of you smallstakes players to get in some volume/work on your game. If you are currently playing 8+ tables with a pretty medeocre win rate, i suggest investing in coaching (not a plug, im not coaching currently), make friends with better players if possible and annoy them with hands, and also play some sessions when you play 4 tables and really try to play a good solid A game and have reads and pick spots etc. The better you get at poker, the easier mulitabling will get. Even at $100nl a nice $150 hourly rate is sustainable (probably more too if you game select, but obv play enough to get to this stage and you'll want to move up) and with rakeback its about $180/hr.

Last two days suck, but played lots of hands!!!
  TwistedEcho, Jan 26 2008

So friday i was experimenting with playing more hands, getting into more multiway pots preflop and really raising my hand selection for destroying limpers. It was working ok until about 4k hands into the session when i started getting carried away and spewing - but i def think i can play a looser style and win more money, i guess i'd need to play even more hands to work out exactly how loose is optimal.

Sat i played two 3k hand sessions during the day, and was basically breakeven. I had some dumb 2p2er who i keep berating for a nit attempt to 'outplay' me, which involved us getting it in on a 245ss board, me with AJs and him with QTs. Then he raises button with A4c, i 3bet SB with AQd which is prob one of the worse hands im doing it with since hes a nit and doesnt steal enough. He calls with A4c (lol) and i checkraise allin on 942dd board and he snaps. So horrible since my range is 99/QQ+/flushdraws.

Its pretty funny how most of the regs notice aggressive players since they all use pokertracker, but they all suck at adjusting to it and generally end up making retarded plays. There is one reg who keeps trying to fuck with me, but since i recognise this just ends up with me getting my money in ahead like always and trapping him.

I decided 6k hands wasn't enough, so 16 tabling while i watched last 5 episodes of amazing race since i'd fallen behind. I was going to play 10k hands today, but i really don't care about playing 10k or 9k, both gives me a nice jump in the bet. Again i'm playing even more hands preflop and i'd expect my vpip to settle around 20 or so for FR.

Jan 25

Jan 26

Position stat screenshot for all hands (probably not quite accurate since im much looser now than i was before

So now i've played 71638 hands, and perfectly on target. Only way i could lose this bet is monster tilt and dropping below 3ptbb, but i doubt that will happen. Also its a good thing my friend is nice, otherwise he'd be sitting at my tables running his timebank down everyhand and trying to stack me to get me below 3ptbb!! (im sure ket would do that to me if it was vs him!)

Also someone requested i make a video. I don't think i can make one while 24 tabling on two monitors since it will either not work, or be tiny i assume? I dont know anything about video making, but i might download camtasia and try to do a 24 tabling session on my laptop for a bit. It would probably be without sound unless people really want sound...

Anyway if people have any ideas for video or tips (or a camtasia crack!) PM/comment below.

Thanks!

EDIT TO ADD BEST HAND OF THE CHALLENGE YET
