My game EP1: Small SC
  LemOn[5thF], May 16 2009

So I have been Chatting with KillthemDonks and after while I got an idea of analysing my graphs, and what not and then deleting my PT3 database to have a 'Fresh Start' ;p

It is about three months since I started playing poker, and I became a NL25 reg by now I believe.
However, I have never really tried hard to review my sessions, but something recently made me to.

I came from +7ptBB/100 to a big loser, hitting incredibly bad runs over past 30K hands. Really ridiculous series of coolers and suckouts. I still think that even with so many leaks I beat NL25 when I run normal, but as always in downswing it is time for a major review, as I will hardly find motivation to do it once the things will go into normal again.

We will be looking at past 15 days since I started 9 tabling NL25 because of the ridiculous VPP promo, and each blog post will cover one area where I think I made some systematic mistakes.

Graph1-Raise first in

Raise First in winnings seem to go down when WTSD kinda badly. Was it just because of the downswing?

Lets have a look Small SC T9s-23S, raise first in

Not nice is it? Red line a zero, winnings deep down.

1) I call 3bet when faced with a steal raise when I was at the table for 18 hands.
Than I try to represent a set on a drawy board to a villain that cannot have any idea how we play, and will push probably any overpair.
4Bet PF if I believe he is 3 betting very lightly when defending, or fold pre. Huge bluffs like this without history are stupid.
a+ Show Spoiler +

I actually found A SECOND HAND LIKE THIS, again with low history.
Generally I seem to call 3bets with low sc wayy too much.
b+ Show Spoiler +

c+ Show Spoiler +

2) During my deep tilt, I started raising 5BB+X at this table with the 50VP fish. I think if I decide to do this and I know he will call I can, but only with a high card hand and not a drawing one, as I am voluntarily killing my implied odds here.

Once on the flop I am faced with standard raise it and make a note situation (donks bet small on dangerous boards and it can mean either crap, draw or nuts- same thing with each villain usually but by no means an universal thing), but my raise is unnecessarily big - 2.80 would do the trick if he has air, especially against a fishy villain who hardly makes difference in raise sizes.

EDIT: Rockman actually noted that its better to do the raise only with outs /as a semi-bluff, thoughts?
It has to work about 40% of the time if I raise $3 against unknown.

a+ Show Spoiler +

3)Now I decide to second barrel against an unknown shortie.
Although this would make a lot of sense against a reg who likes to float or just calls once with PP, against a shortie who is presumably a huge station I should not do it.

Downswing+Update
  LemOn[5thF], May 14 2009

First of all, I made a MSN Account. If you are a micro stakes Grinder and want to discuss how to own' em, or you play higher stakes and need a Padawan, than add 08006536@live.napier.ac.uk ;o

Past days have been very bad.
It was unbelievable how bad my sessions went. It was Suckout after suckout, coooler after cooler. At one time I got Aces cracked 4 times in row. I was actually falling into desperation. I have lost about 90% All-ins against shorties.

However hard I tried, I was always losing and the inevitable tilt has arrived.

Here is my gosu graph:

I lost almost all flips, especially those where I had 46%, it felt more like 10% to me lolz ;o

Whats Next:
Well I have exams coming up, which means I am taking a break and will take my mind off poker, as I kinda need not to fail these (I got two)
+I have to teach my GF who has no clue about Transition Economics that we both study.

The Plan:
As always, a downswing pushed me finally to work on my game.

I reached Platinum rank at Pokerstrategy, which means I have access to almost all articles there (about 20 new BSS I didn't read yet) and about 30 SH BSS videos for various stakes, so I will not only study Economics for the exam, but also some serious Poka. I don't think there was much I could do apart from some hands today, so sick the downswing was, but if I perfect my game I should be ready to completely own when the cards start coming again.

I also totally changed my HUD. The new Default PT3 positional one was awkward to click through when multitabling and it was Tilting me even more.
So I made 5 Different groups each with separate popup for more stats.
(e.g. I got 3Bet number with positional+4bet stats popup)
My groups are:
3Bet
Fold to 3Bet
player Stats
Att to Steal
Fold to Steal

And I plan on adding C/bet later when I get used to these and keep adding more and more to the main popup.

Its much simpler to play now and more comfy with this hud, as I do vast majority of decisions by just looking at the numbers I got and not opening anything/skimming through useless stats. I think that PT3 is almost as good as HEM now if you got time to fiddle with the features (I even got Squeeze stat now :o)

Another positive thing is that I made about 6,200 VPP this month, meaning I only have to do 1,300 more to get the Roxxor 80,000 VPP bonus and easily grind for Supernova in couple months afterwards.
It also can't get any worse than this so from now on the cards can only get better

I HATE LOSING
  LemOn[5thF], May 09 2009

So yesterday night I had a heater session when I once again ran like Jesus on Steroids.

This morning I wake up, and guess what: DOOMSWITCH
Seriously, this was so sick. My sets were too low, King High flush is obviously only second best isn't it?
Second straight all over the place.
When I rased PF with JJ-KK and saw flop, I could be 95% sure that the overs simply WILL be there.
I lost about 18 All-ins against shorties, they just kept owning me.
And Of course, I have been rivered four times with 94% Equity, and couple times with 85%.

There were 10 minute spots where I didn't win a single pot.

And when I finally can hope I suck out someone for a change this happens:

So I got like Seriously Pissed. This is NL25, How the fuck can I be 10BI down when I am thinking about moving to NL50?

I was tilted, the cards were still not coming and when I finally went up some bb's I immediately got sucked out again.
But I didn't give up, and although my game was a lot less aggressive and I was inevitably starting to get paranoid I tried to pull myself together and think hard about all my actions despite the tilt.

But I wouldn't stop until I would be at least close to breakeven. What emerged was the longest poker day ever. Here is how it went:

Hours: 12.42
Down Barely 1.5BI.

This session really helped me to go through hard times after the heaters from last two weeks. Ignoring Stop Loss, I have proven to myself that I can beat these people tilted and without good cards coming.

I also got nice VPP injection and I already got 4250VPP From the 7500 I need this month to get the 80,000VPP and become supernova by the end of summer even if I will get a Full-time job and play less poker- Only 10K VPP to go if I manage the 7500 this month

The longest session of my career is dismissed, and from now on I would really prefer to RUN NORMAL, instead of the incredible heaters altered by Yellow's Syndrome, as this was really tiring.

Life Graph n stuff
  LemOn[5thF], May 07 2009

My Entire Poker career. Got about 5k hands NL2 CDpoker which hardly counts and some Facebook Poker which PT3 doesn't support for some reason.

As you can see I can only thank poker gods for sending a massive downswing upon my head when I attempted NL10 FR.This, and propaganda of many of you, especially Gororokgororok made me switch to Short-handed Poker and I never looked back since.

I went from $0.34/ hour at NL5 FR to $4.40/Hour at NL5SH. Had I not made this switch I might be a struggling NL10 FR reg by now.

This month is all about getting 7500 VPP to help me become Supernova easily this year (Currently at 2370 in May, but I will move flats and have exams so it won't be that easy to reach) , even if I stay at NL25. I am already rolled for NL50 after 10 days at NL25, and I think my NL25 standard if I'd run normal is around 5BB/100 9 tabling (This is my rate in luck-neutral sessions) , although with the heaters not being completely balanced by coolers its at 7.5/100 now, but it has always adjusted and I believe it will happen this time around as well.

I still plan to stay at NL25 until the end of the month, if I'd move to NL50 I'd have to 4table at first and the crucial VPP income would be lower + I still am waiting for a major downs swing and its better to have it when you sit at 66 BI's ;o

Starting BR 82 days ago: $50

I did it!
  LemOn[5thF], May 06 2009

I am in black after first morning session for the first time in my poker career!

I always always spew a couple BI at the beginning, no matter what. I don't think about my play too much unless its an interesting hand and am really unobservant.

So today I had a meditation session on the can and I was thinking over my strategy for the morning session.
I ran 14/12, around 3.5% 3BEt (against the usual 10%) Huge nit style. Whenever I suspected I might be beat, I stepped on brakes.

Of course I still made some retarded mistakes, but in the end I achieved my standard 6BB/100 Trend!

SO from now on, I will start my sessions in this huge nit mode and play my A game only after 1 hour or so.

Changing my PF
  LemOn[5thF], May 05 2009

I watched some Loose-ish NL200 vids on Pokerstrategy and I decided to start altering my PF betsizing.

All positions but blinds: 3BB+XBB

I decided to tighten up UTG and UTG+1, mucking even ATo and mixing low sc only very very rarely or when the games get deep. I was playing way too many of them before and the KTo kind of hands cost me more than won me.

I am very confident in my flop play and I feel I have an edge over the vast majority of the limit, thus 3BB+X even on 9 tables.
LP I want to get called because of position and my edge.
EP I want to get called because I play only premiums.

Blinds
SB- I raise to 5BB if I am first in. I don't want people to be calling and when they do I want larger pot for C/bets

BB- 4BB+XBB with limpers. I am OOP so I throw in an extra bb
Standard- if sb completes

3Bets
I still play 10% 3bet, but I will alter bet sizing now.

-Standard exactly to 3X raise when I am in position

-3bet to 3.5X raise to 4X raise (0.75 Raise its 4X, bigger-3.5x) +match dead money.
Same as before, I don't like to be playing OOP and it makes me feel uncomfortable, hence the bigger raise.

Yesterday I made a retarded spew session with -7BI when I was completely exhausted from National Floorball Championship I was playing over the weekend (I am a goalkeeper, but I found out that Poker grinder and high speed sport career is hard to sustain at top notch for both ;o) NO thinking, robot poker with retarded play. I still have tendencies to spew like this when I lose stamina and concentration and it costs me huge amounts of profits.

Today was the first day with altering bet sizes.
I actually didn't run very good being -1.5BI Under EV and I can't recall any obvious heaters, but I did get sucked out a few times.

I pick up loads of pots and my red line floated to around +1BI, pretty decent score with 24/20 stats. I made a huge 150bb spew though at the end as always. I really really suck when I am tired and lose focus-.-

As for my learning progress, I am moving to the NL100-NL200 resources and hand evaluation at Pokerstrategy and I I will be more active in the medium stakes poker section here (well here its just about reading really, the spots posted are much tougher on average)

I feel I understand the broad micro stakes ABC quite well and I am attempting to move to the more precise range guessing thought processes.

As for NL25 I plan to hang around for the rest of this month. I hold 6BB/100 as the retarded spewfest session was balanced by a 13BB/100 heater and they both cancelled each other out so the general trend copies today's session (talk about a business cycle lolz) and I feel I can easily sustain it at 9tables.

I will take a shot at NL50 when both these conditions are met:

A) I will be able to sit at a reg only tables and beat them steadily at 4BB/100 or so, the move to NL50 will not be a shot but rather just an easy transition as was NL10 to NL25 this way. I hate to gamble, I like to own.

B) Standard BR requirement: 34BI with 4expected to lose to the initial doomswitch (Happened every single time I swapped a game or stakes ;o)

Thats it for now, Please comment on the PF bet sizing folks

Once Upon a time
  LemOn[5thF], May 02 2009

I had a downswing
+ Show Spoiler +

So I started 9 tabling SH NL25 tight 17/15 ABC at NL25 because of the ridiculous VPP Promo at stars. I am selling my soul and practically exchanging rapid learning curve for the sick amount of VPP and for higher profits ( I find no difference between NL25 and NL5 when I table select)

Switched back to 4BB+X, and I have a lil' problem adjusting back to playing nitty, as I can't afford to bluff when I don't follow all the action and go mostly by stats again.
Made many degen bluffs that worked before, but they obviously did not work now as I didn't observe the tendencies of everyone, which is a complete must if you want to go past C/bet at NL25.

I also ran very bad and got my flush busted by FH, K flush by A flush and twice got rivered with some Q8 hands hitting 2 pair.

Than a sick 2 minute heater came and I hit like 4 sets and 2 flushes and got back to where I was when I finished with LAG lolz

P.S. One SICK SOULREAD

Monkey Style
  LemOn[5thF], Apr 30 2009

I know I said I will play tight ABC at NL25.
I will not. Monkey style 32/30 9-20% 3Bet with a 4bet bluff here and there seems much better against most people as they are

1) Multitabling Nits
2) Monkeys themselves, who are not used to other monkeys
3) High VP Fish I raise wide range in position against them but once the flop comes and I miss I don't invest a cent.
4) Solid observing players against which I am forced to play solid myself. But if they go by stats they might not realise I am not so loose against them and it might give me a slight edge. However I met 2-3 Gold Stars where I felt that I don't have an edge anymore and people like this are a big challenge for me as they knew very well how to adjust.

Its the path of high variance, and a path that I am not very experienced at. I still make big amount of mistakes and my skills are challenged at all times, but I believe it pushes my poker skills forward.

Just to show you some fun Monkey v Monkey hands:

Hand1: My line seems weird? That was my intention. I bluffed this 40/35 guy a lot, and sometimes he saw my K8o, 35s kind of hands on board with 0 outs. After being down roughly $5 to him (but still up at the table thanks to the nits) I wake up with a monster.

His range here? Random.
I did my best for my line not to make any sense and first let him bluff turn, and than make it look like an obvious illogical bluff myself. I try very hard for my bluffs to make sense at all times and bet only when its logical for me to have a hand, preferrably in small pots or at very obvious spots, but the aggro NL10-NL25 players don't seem to realise this, and even the tight players try to counter aggression by aggression a lot.

+ Show Spoiler +

Just a fun hand. This guy was stealing around 40%, so I started to 3bet him with anything semi-playable like A2o, any single gapper SC KTo etc. And he was folding, alot. Than he couldn't take it anymore and he started 4betting me All-in. 3 times I folded, but than I made my stand:
+ Show Spoiler +

Anyway my first year at uni (I came straight to second year) ends in one month.
Just got an essay with my usual 72% back (I had 3 modules last semestre, all 70-75% Overall mark, I could push it harder if my standard for 3k words essay was not one to two days of semi-studying and preparation for exams two days perhaps) is coming to an end and exams are in one month.

Than I have to find myself a job as I am going for an Internship next Uni Year,I had an interview with Sun Microsystems today and couple more are coming up, wish me luck ;o
