[NL25] shot Day 1
  Uptown, Jan 21 2009

I had 14bi's for NL25, and decided to take a Maynard style shot for about 2-3 bi's. I'm super confident in NL10 atm even discouting for the ridiculous heater I'm in, so I was comfortable with losing 1/6 my BR or w/e. However, I WOULD definitely move down asap if things didn't go well.

This also coincided with my renewed commitment for constructing a sound daily routine for getting hands in while in great mental condition. I woke up, had something to eat, stretched, then hit the tables.

Played for 2.5 hours and just stopped 5 mins ago since my concentration was waning. Started with 4 tables, gradually went up to 6. Everything felt comfortable, although a lost more of the tables were filled with 25/15 types than NL10. If you look in my hand history you'll find a few notable hands, though mostly uninteresting "play" wise. I still seem to be betting too much postflop, with an AF of 5.1 and Cbet rate of 80%+. Hopefully I can adjust those appropriately.

*drumroll*

Still runnin' hawt it seems~

P.S. - I'm having so much fun playing this game right now and focusing on 'improving', it's phenomenal. Loving every second of it~

[NL10] Days 7-8
  Uptown, Jan 21 2009

Switched from PT3 to HEM on day 7, never looking back ever. Holy crap this software is amazing! So much fun screwing around with all the little things <3.

Overall I'm pretty happy with my play, I think I need to cbet less into stationy players, as well as not being stationy myself. Those are the 2 biggest leaks for me right now. The betting with air'ish hands into stations is being reflected by my high AF (5) I think, and I'm really not pleased about that. Really want to get my stats to what Snider's are here in his blog where he has similar VPIP/PFR to me but far lower AF.

Getting enough hands in per day is my #1 task for this week. Going to be sleeping early and waking up to play before I get tired in the evening after taking care of tasks. Last 2 days I got 2 hours in, but b/c I 4 table normal speed tables, that still translates to only 500-600 hands, and that's just not acceptable. I set out 2009 with playing 1000/day as one of my goals, and I've already failed on it. I'm considering moving up to 6 tables though since I'm much more comfortable with my decision making than I was 10 days ago when I was overhauling my game for moving back up to NL10, so I think I'll try this out tomorrow. Doubt I'll be going up to 8 though, although with slow tables I guesssssssssss it's an option.

Can't complain with the winrate, now I just have to put in the hands!

Here's the graph~

covers 5 days/sessions since I moved back up to NL10. Abysmal # of hands I know

[NL10] Day 6
  Uptown, Jan 18 2009

ugh. 3rd day in a row of not even reaching 200 hands for the day.

While I should be happy with the direct monetary results (44ptbb/100 over 400 hands) and am happy with them, at the same time I am very disappointed in myself that I havent found the discipline to get myself into 'game shape' to tackle the tables in prime mental shape.

Also need to read A LOT more, particularly on villain ranges. If you guys know any threads/articles I should be reading and analyzing other than the ones in the 2p2 uNL sticky (here) please let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it.

[NL10] Day 5
  Uptown, Jan 17 2009

Another short session. I want to start 3 betting light on good TAGgy players from the BU when they open from CO, but didn't really have the opportunity since I only plaeyd a loltastic 154 hands. PT3 started bugging out and not giving me proper HUD stats on new tables, so I decided to quit when I felt it kind of getting to my concentration.

I have to give a shoutout to Edjon for this thread, whamm! for this reply and Spor for this thread, which is making me more conscious of when to play and when not to play.

Stats:
hours: 0.63
hands: 154
BB/100: 50.97
19.5/14.3/1.86
35%ST

Not nearly as epic as Neilly's 180BB/100 though haha~ (link)

[NL10] Day 4
  Uptown, Jan 16 2009

Not even going to bother posting a graph, since I only played 170 hands before playing this hand http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/609401 which made me feel a twinge of tilt so I quit on the spot, which put me at like 44ptbbs/100 for the day hahaha.

Anyways, I've decided to move back up to NL10 now that I feel good about the work I did on my game at NL5. I think I'm starting to "get" what it means when people said how Poker isn't about "your two cards". It's about relative position, opponents' positions, their tendencies (stats, reads), the cards they most likely have from those tendencies, the cards THEY think YOU have given your tendencies and the fact that They know that I know their tendencies. I feel like I'm starting to unlock the puzzle that will make poker even more "fun" for me .

Isolating limpers and cbet intelligence are probably the two biggest factors that will determine how successful my 'practice' at NL5 pays off at NL10. Gotta be careful not to isolate stations though and of course, not to commit my stack with marginal holdings, or even good holdings if the board renders my hand marginal.

I hope to be able to post a decent sample size graph tomorrow.

[NL10] Day 3.3
  Uptown, Jan 15 2009

My stats for today look like where I want them to be. 14/11/4.5 with a St% of 30. I think the AF can be a tad lower, and indicates my spew postflop in forms of betting out on bad boards / stations w/o a hand, as well as not being able to muck marginal hands.

My stealing seems acceptable, and my flop play has improved (at least I think...). I've retightened my EP range to where I'm pretty comfortable with the numbers.

However, I still have these momentary lapses in judgement, calling down or getting it in with marginal if not shitty hands when the villains are telling me they have me beat. I seem to want to convince myself that they are bluffing at me since I am a nit, but come on, the vast majority of the time they do have me beat.

Epitome of my retardation: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/608669

Wtf am I doing?

Take a guess where that hand happened today in the graph below LOL.

edit: actually I'd like the stats to be a bit looser from LP when I move back to NL10, but there's so many stations at NL5 that I have no choice but to be a nit.

[NL10] Day 3.2
  Uptown, Jan 14 2009

So it became pretty clear that I had become waaaaaaaaaaaay too loose. My EP and Blind VPIP/PFR were way too high, and being liberal from LP had affected my EP range as well.

So I spent the 2nd session of the day retightening my EP ranges while maintaining a looser LP range. I also realized that there is no sense in isolating a calling station 60/20 limper from LP with marginal hands haha. I'm still a bit too loose in the blinds, but I think this is skewed by the fact that I spent a ton of hands in front of a nit who'd just fold his bb to my sb 3xbb raise. I do definitely need to much more marginal hands in the blinds though. Hopefully I can get it down to near my UTG range.

Before After of stats by position. Needs more work but it's going in the right direction.

Before

After

Oh, and the graph.

ugh, what an ugly graph. I guess the saving grace is that most of the swinginess was in the first session (600 hands), though then again most of THAT was caused by being a fucking station postflop not folding to shoves that were obvious signs that my K high flush was no good. la;sdfoiashdlfkasjdlkf a;lsdf oaisd jf

[NL10] Day 3.1
  Uptown, Jan 13 2009

Gonna just bundle this into NL10 blogs since really I'm fixing my game for the purpose of being in NL10 (though I am playing at NL5).

Two biggest leaks I'm trying to fix by dropping down to NL5 are:

1) Not stealing / isolating enough from CO/BU. Before, my steal percentage was around 23%, which is far too low. I'm trying to get this up to around 30-35% over a large sample size.

2) Spewing postflop. In particular, keen identification of flops in which cbetting is +EV. Also not being tempted to cbet on marginal boards (or even at all??) against villains who have below 30% fold to cbet.

One minor(?) issue I have over a small sample size is raising a ton from CO and then being called by the button with about 33VPIP then kinda getting fuxxored OOP on the flop. Or in a different situation, isolating a limper then having BB call or something like that (this isn't nearly as big a deal as I'm IP so w/e, if it's 3 way it's a coinflip whether I can cbet even on decent flops because it's 3way...)

Unfortunately I couldn't get in the hands I wanted to today (only like 370/1000 goal), but I did manage to play for like the first time in forever w/o browsing TL/LP or chatting on MSN, so that's an improvement. I foresee my sessions to be about 1-1.5 hours, having 3-4 sessions per day.

Actually, come to think of it I have a question. Say you're the sb with KJo, KTo, ATo, something like that. folds around to BU (say 30/10 or so), who limps. What do you do? Right now I tend to just muck it b/c I hate playing these marginal hands OOP potentially 3 way. What if there are two limpers including BU - (I guess I fold here obv if I'm folding to just one limper, but if you do raise to like 6-8xbb, does having a potential 4way pot deter you from doing the same?)

Thanks as always,
-Uptown

[NL10] Day 3
  Uptown, Jan 12 2009

Suicide.

A few suckouts and coolers to start the downswing (2nd nut flush vs nut flush, etc), then I think it got to my head and I started to get out of line, calling down marginal spots etc.

Definitely betting way too much on the flop in situations where I should not be.

Feel like I should implement a stoploss of 2bis or something of that nature.

[NL10] Day 2
  Uptown, Jan 11 2009

I'm definitely being passive and weak in situations where I was comfortable being aggressive in NL5.

Open raising then not taking down enough flops *might* be an issue, is there a way to check detailed stats of myself in PT3? I'd really like to see results of my steals (actually, I think I know how to do this one) as well as how often I'm cbetting and results.

Whether I need to be nittier from EP and looser from LP is a point of contention that hopefully I can examine soon.

Overall, swingy session that was rather stressful if I may say so. But overall the NL10 shot is going well, hopefully I can concentrate on making the +EV moves rather than trying to "stay" at this limit.

Special Thanks to Sicks Macks, vlseph and Night2o1 who I think have commented often in my hands/threads/blogs <3. Appreciate the advice a lot.

Night, hope your NL50 shot is going well!
