unfortunatley everything i write in these forums turns into shit. no matter how legitimate of a post it is, or how insightful it may be i am going to get flamed.i am starting to realize there is no way around it. a forum works diffrently than any other format on the internet. you can start a thread like the one i started today about the november 9 with good intentions, and hopes that youll have a little bit of fun, and then watch it turn into a nasty and ugly situation where even mods are threatning to ban you. i guess i hit my low point of the day

my girlfriends in pain because she has a tooth ache and needs to get teeth pulled tommorow, and she has no health insurance. I am thousands of dollars in debt. My job fucking sucks because of the economy/ and because of the situation over there. I haven't re enrolled back into school yet and feel like i'll never go back and im destined to be a fucking car sales man for the rest of my life. my poker career is non existant, because of lack of bank roll, I cant even get it Started...

i log on to lp to try to escape from all the RL bull shit and i get slammed. this is the only forum that i visit so its not like i have anywhere else to go..
I feel like i have two options... ;(

1 leave the forums and stop posting and go somewhere a little more accepting.

2 or Log back in here when i have a decent graph showing some profit and somehow prove myself to all of you. because i feel thats the only way ill be accepted here...

either way the hostility towards beginners here is insane. i posted a hand in the tourney page to get some advice on how to prevent what happend to me and i got RAILED. I post a question about whether or not its good to limp in every time i get a chance and i get RAILED. Its like everything i touch turns into SHIT ! and it sucks

you have to become a studnet of the game dont make a goal like ï wanna make 10k this month" aim for something like, "being a winning 10NL player and go from there" and be humble

1.This forum is crowded with really good players. If they see you limp with Q8, they laugh because they get their money from people like you...Its no offense, but it's the truth.
2.If ur in debt you really shouldnt start playing poker. The swings can be emotionally heavy to take.
3.How can this be a place to escape from reality? you've been around for like a week...

otherwise why the hell would baal be a mod?

hey man don't worry too much about it. most people act this way because this is how they learned and they don't know any better. it's always all in good fun though so don't take it so personal. as for baal threatening to ban you... well either he has seen some things that i haven't or he's just in his PMS, ignore it.

it seems you have a lot of issues to deal with in your life as it is, if posting on a forum makes you even more emotional then by all means do leave, get your shit together and come back when you feel better. i've been in your situation when i started poker and that's what i did and am doing good now.

fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccount

I think the issue with your threads is that you took way too much offense when people said you played hands horribly. Saying those types of things is incredibly standard here, and you should really have lurked enough to find that out. Also, the way you've constantly ignored what the really good players have said is a very contributing part. If you would just have tried to listen instead of getting defensive about your play than you probobly could've gotten alot more accepted.

Rocketshiptrip   Sweden. Nov 08 2009 20:02. Posts 476

Also, don't play poker if you're in debt. Just don't do it.

Don't take too much offense when people flame you. It's part of the internet. This community is pretty supportive imo, just keep chugging.

I know you've been told this a thousand times before but seriously, look at your current situation in life and really ask yourself if poker is a good hobby for you right now =... You're obviously at a low point and i dont think poker is going to help, hell, i'll assume you're an ex sc player, you know how frustrating it can be playing sc when your pissed off and losing to people you know you're better than thru either cheese or you fucking up something stupid, in poker that feeling is magnafied 10x since it happens a lot more and money is on the line (be it small or not).

The main reason you're getting so slammed is because you're posts are, seriously, horrible...

Once again another sc related note, but its like a guy going on TL, first posting about how he cant seem to get out of D- rank on iccup despite tons and tons of knowledge of the game and several failed seasons of trying to just get to D+. Then posting replays of him doing ridiculously stupid shit like 4 pylon 4 gate and saving up 4 zealots and attacking. Of course you're going to get a bunch of replies like "wtf are you doing, everything about this game is just wrong on your part, years of knowledge my ass" and then you backing it up by saying you've been watching combat-ex- vods for ages and he's really good, and defending him when far better players than you and him and saying you're absolutely 100% wrong and dont know what the fuck you're on about, then getting all emo about it cos no body likes the new guy.

There HAVE been helpful posts in your threads, just like the poor basterd who doesnt realize to build more workers in sc would get the helpful post that would atleast send him on the right track. There WILL be more helpful posts for you if you continue to posts hands here (provided you actually show improvement and dont post another hand where your play hasnt improved on any street).

Right now, you do have two options 1 is to just be the quiet guy for a while until you realize how this forum works (notice how the vast majority of posts arent just people lolling at how bad other people are in the help threads, they're actually helpful, unless someone posts something so bad it'd take a 500word essay to explain how wrong it truely was). or 2 is to just leave.

You should really focus on ur life right now and not on poker or anything gambling related really.

Also when someone that has 100000x times more experience than you and tells you something - you should listen to him.Being stubborn is stupid and it doesnt help u develope in any way

this is mostly true unfortuatley, it's extremley imporant to be a successful poker player that you have very strong emotional stability, this is something you can work on vegeta, if you make a conscious effort. People who bitch at every problem that comes their way generally dont get very far in life

Nike has a really cool slogan, "Just do it". So many people complain and bitch about how they cant do X or Y, "I'm only playing 10k hands a month, how do I play more?". The answer is very simple, sit down, set a schedule and JUST DO IT, if you waste your energy procrastinating (this takes a lot of energy BTW) then you go no where in life

fwiw, I've read a lot of your threads. All the way though.
Each time I felt kinda bad for you. I'm sorry you think you're depressed.

I actually thought for a bit about what I could do to help you. My thoughts ranged from:
"Wow that sucks."
to
"lol.."
to
"Maybe I should coach this guy."

..but, yeah...
I've got my own problems. Everyone's got their own problems. Maybe that's what's wrong with the world. =s

Ultimately, I feel like issues like this are things we all have to grow though.
Just remember that it's you who decides how you react to the things that happen to you.

I was going to make a post that highlighted all the parts of your post I disagreed with, or were just plain pointless (and by pointless I mean self-defeating), but I think you can do that yourself. It would probably have come off much too condescending to be helpful.

Take a week of from poker, and your job if possible. Do this for yourself, as a gift. What do you really have to lose? Just take some time out and think. Go for a couple walks or long car rides. You don't even have to do it alone.

I don't think grinding is what you need right now, at most think about why you even play poker (actually think: as in, ask 'why' to every conclusion ad-inf. You break through the ego defenses that way). Then come back. Re-read your post, and go from there.

Only tryin' to help,
SemP

PS. Don't open limp.

1 last thing to add is, Take responsibility for your results in everything you do. I can tell you within 99% confidence your results in poker or anything you choose to do are in direct coorliation with your skill level / expertise. Once you realize you have control over almost every aspect of your life, and people who suceed are not some special gods, they are people who work hard and put in the time to become better.

I rag on you constantly but I've already told you why in a constructive, honest, and straightforward way. I even took a second out of flaming you constantly to make it clear why.

I'm going to try one more time.

You need to work on your RL and you need to never look at poker as an income source or ever expect to withdraw. Why do I say this?
Because you are not even REMOTELY GOOD at poker, you don't even qualify as having a beginners level of knowledge about poker. You need to completely scrap your current thoughts while playing and actually learn the game.

Do you realize that people make their living off of playing basketball? By extension, can you see to what level this has taken the game? It isn't something you just start playing and get into the NBA.

Do you realize that people make their living off of playing poker? By extension, can you see to what level this has taken the game? It isn't something you just start playing and making money at.

You can think of the microstakes like school.. where you are learning the ropes to life (poker). You NEED to start there and STUDY.

Keep reacting defensively to every gem of knowledge the forums have dropped on your ass and you will keep getting shit on.

btw i totally disagree with Twisted

Its stupid to avoid doing something just cause its easier.Yes the guy is bitchy, emotional etcetc. - soo avoiding to learn to control his emotions is better for him ? really? Yeah it will be hard but so what ? People constantly take irrational decisions coz of emotions.I d say best thing a man can do is learn to control them.

Also being depressed.. your mind / body feeling depressed is not a signal to start feeling sorry for yourself and feel like crap. Your body sends you this feeling as a warning signal, that something in your life needs to change. It's one of the most powerful signals your body can send you, don't misinterprit it like most people do and start procrastinating even harder, because that will lead to even deeper depression untill eventually you become numb. Feeling bad is not a bad thing, just understand your body is trying to tell you "vegeta we need to change, and we have to it now"

THat sc analogy is pretty spot on.

Do what I do when i joined Lp. Never post and just read. Honestly every post I see you make it looks like you need to quit. If your in debt and depressed honestly poker is not what you want to be doing right now. Honestly for right now you just need to play poker for fun. That being said if your using the forum to escape your rl responsibilities that will probably fail. This is the internet your talking about. Everyone is assholes. Honestly besides the people just making fun of you there are a lot of people trying to save you. I hope your 1k debt isn't to poker and thats what your chasing after.

People don't hate newcomers here. When I was new, people were kind to me and helped me. You don't even try to learn the game, you're constantly posting things that AREN'T CONTRIBUTING TO THE COMMUNITY. Learn the game, READ other people's hands and understand the thought processes, improve your own game, and when you have a basic idea of what you are doing and why you are betting when you are betting, start posting hands for help.

Seriously, go find a NBA forum and try to start a spoiler free discussion on who will win the most recently played game, i guarantee you will get 95% of people saying "wtf, this post is stupid". If you combined that with 7-8 previous posts making you out to look like a possible troll, do you think people will be giving friendly "lol man, it's alrdy been played!" or do you think you'll get "Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you idiot, get off our forums?"....

K, probably a bad time to joke. I'll try something more helpful...

Well, the best thing I guess is to listen to what ppl have to say, don't take it too personal, and put it into practice if you feel like it. Mainly just play a shitload of hands and learn through experience. You'll probably see that there is a lot of truth to most if not all of the advice only some of it is more appropriate for certain styles, etc. Play a lot of hands, work on the basics, get all the help you can get via sites/articles/videos.... while gaining experience.

Stay humble and don't think you're gonna be able to make a profit easily. Chances are you'll lose money, at least in the beginning - not because you're not good, personally, and you need to prove yourself, but because of the nature of the game. It takes a lot of time, tons of patience, an almost buddhist disposition, and a willingness to keep learning that you didn't know as much as you thought you did.

As ppl have mentioned, not having money to play w/ outside of meeting your bills/expenses (don't know if this is the case) can greatly effect your play and your ability to learn/improve. Like I said before, you shouldn't even be thinking of moving up. Nl2 is perfect...nl5 can come much later. You'll mainly need to focus on gaining experience - focus on improving your pre and posflop play etc...vs making money. Again, in poker, there are going to be times when you do the right thing and still lose. This will happen for thousands and thousands of hands. Even when you're doing your best to minimize mistakes. This is why a lot of ppl now might not be the best time to get started.

It' up to you, but it might be better to just share your progress w/ a few members. I haven;t really read any of the threads you made, so I can't comment, but most ppl probably aren't going to take your opinion of poker too seriously if youre just starting out. yada yada....

if you want to talk about boring live poker scene i suggest this forum:

No offense man but are you really that dumb? You come into a POKER forum, ASKING about your play, then you get mad when people tell you the play was awful and then you start talking about Hellmuth being the best poker player like everyone on the forum is completely wrong.

It's the fact that you came in not knowing anything about the forum or it's culture and started acting like you were the shit. I lurked around LP for a year before I posted and tried to take things out of threads that were already there instead of making them. And I still suck.. but I don't go around pretending that everyone should treat me like I'm some forum vet... god. Just stop posting and start reading and actually learning stuff -__________-;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;. Take a break

Dude you're an emotional crybaby no offense. STOP TRYING TO GET INTO POKER IT'S NOT FOR YOU.

You're way too emotional about stuff to get into poker. It will seriously fuck your life up.

Listen to this, you probably wont but this is very important, you are not cut for poker, you have no idea how rought this game is at times, it will demolish you mentally and emotionally and being as emotional as you are, it will destroy you.

I am serious, walk away from the idea of becoming a professional poker player, 90% of this forum dont even know how fucking rought this game can be, with time, they will find out.
